[Music] thank you wow hey everyone Ryan from ubike Escape and in this video we're reviewing the upgraded electric XP 3.0 I'm not sure exactly what to call it but trust me you're going to want to check it out let's get into it [Music] foreign [Music] before we dive into all the components if you are looking to purchase any electric electric bike we'd really appreciate it if you use the affiliate links down in the description before you make your purchase it truly makes our in-depth reviews possible so thank you so much for your support and if you're looking to purchase some accessories check out our popular electric bike accessories list and our newly opened shop at shop.ebikescape.com and check out some of the accessories that we have to offer those purchases also support the Channel with that let's get into the walk around of the electric XP 3.0 a little background the electric XP Series so the 1.0 then the 2.0 and now the 3.0 has to be the best selling electric bikes on the market to date there's a reason these have been so popular and in my opinion You're simply not going to find anything better at this price and certainly not from a reputable company like Electric that has been added for some time so why did I say upgraded so the electric XP 3.0 actually released in late 2022 and if you were one of those people who purchased a XP 3.0 you can get free hydraulic disc brakes from the company and mechanical brakes to disc brakes is a awesome upgrade more stopping power we actually did a comparison video of the old XP 3.0 brakes compared to the new ones so you can check out that video If you really want to dive into the performance but overall the brakes are easier to pull increase stopping power and less maintenance as well now the second change that they made with the XP 3.0 is they're now including their power controller which in essence just means that each pedal sys level is limited based off of current instead of speed which is something that I personally like because the speed sensors while they do work well and a lot of companies still use them it just doesn't make sense for them to be completely speed limited because pedal assist level one might go to eight miles an hour and then you can pedal all you want but in pelosis level one you're not going to go any faster so with power it's just a more intuitive riding experience especially for a Cadence Sensor electric bike so you can pedal past that and you're just still going to get in pedal assist level one a little bit of power so I'll talk a little bit more about that in the first person riding footage but those are the two changes this bike is priced at 9.99 which is insane for a bike that has hydraulic disc brakes now this is the standard range version but you can upgrade to the long range Edition for just two hundred dollars more that will take you from a 10.4 amp hour battery up to a 14 amp hour battery the bike frames and everything else is all the same it's just the battery capacity I personally think if you're at all on the fence just go with the long range it's a great deal these batteries separately are 299 for the standard battery and 500 for the upgraded so it's pretty clear that it's money well spent with the increased range so besides the different battery options they also come in different frame styles what you see here is the step through in Black they also offer it in white and then if you want the high step is offered just in Black though my recommendation would be up for the step through not only do I think that it looks better but I think most people can appreciate the increased accessibility of the lower standover height and speaking of standover height that's going to be 18 and a half inches right here the electric XP 3.0 weighs in at 64 pounds and has a 330 pound weight capacity stay tuned until the end of the walk around and I'll show you how the bike folds with that let's jump into all the components and I'm going to show you just why this is the best value electric bike on the market starting up here with the hydraulic disc brakes now they are unbranded but I do believe these are a nut brand they just took the branding off and I do have experience with them and they perform just fine and it goes without saying significantly better than the mechanical disc brakes so the fact that this bike has hydraulic disc brakes now is going to set it even further apart from other folding electric bikes on the market those brakes are paired with 180 millimeter rotors which is what we see most often we have a bolt-on front axle so in the event that you need to remove the front tire you will need a wrench perhaps that's something that they can upgrade when they come out with the 4.0 maybe next year in 2024 it'd be nice to see a quick release moving on to the tires we have electric 20 inch by three inches wide tires I personally really like this size because it's a happy medium between the true fat tires which I view as four inch wide tires and thinner tires so you get increased confidence on the road you also get some additional cushion and you get better rolling resistance compared to the true fat tires the tires have some tread on them so certainly capable of doing some light off-roading and of course this bike is very well known in the RV Community something else that electric has done on many of their models that I really like is they have slime pre-installed in the tires that is sealant so if you happen to get a small puncture there's a good chance that that slime is just going to fill the hole and you'll be able to continue on your adventure we have paint match fenders front and rear made out of metal which is a nice addition especially at this price point moving up from the fenders we have an integrated front light certainly going to do a little bit more at night so consider some flashing lights if you're using this perhaps as a commuting electric bike and this bike even comes with front suspension preload on the left and a lockout on the right and the lockout is either unlocked or completely locked I'll push on the front suspension so you can get an idea of what to expect now it isn't a huge travel front suspension Fork though they did that intentionally to keep the bike lower to the ground and accessible though it's certainly going to soak up some bumps while you're riding moving up from there we have the four bolt pattern this is where you can mount the optional cargo package which comes with a front rack with a small basket as well as a large basket and you can mount those front or rear moving on to the cable wrapping the company has done a really good job of bringing both sides into one bundle here now just a note on the XP 3.0 the cables are running externally which yes isn't as clean of a look but trust me on some of those folding electric bikes where the cables run through the frame through where it folds there's the potential to have cables pinched and trust me that's not fun to replace them so while this this might not look aesthetically as nice as some of those other folding electric bikes it is perfectly functional and much easier to maintain now towards the end of the walk around I'll show you how the bike folds but I want to show off The Handlebar folding here so you simply lift and Pull and that will allow the handlebars to fold you also have adjustability up and down of those handlebars depending on your height it is a quick release you do need to be mindful of the minimum insertion point so you either want it at levels zero all the way up through eight moving on to the cockpit we have rubber ergonomic grips that actually have electric branded end caps on them now if you do find that these are moving a lot and that annoys you you can opt for some locking grips on our electric bike accessories list here's a look at the hydraulic disc brakes complete with motor cutoff so as soon as you hit the brakes it's going to cut power to the motor and again just really like how easy generally hydraulic disc brakes are to operate moving on to the right side of the bike we have the right hand twist grip throttle that's always my preference and a Shimano assist index 7-speed thumb shifter this is a shifter that we see on electric bikes all the way up to the two thousand dollar price point based basic component but gets the job done for a recreational riding let's talk about the controls this is the same three button controls that we see on all of the electric e-bikes speaking of all the electric e-bikes be sure to check out all of our other reviews if you're looking at other models in the lineup here's the power button on the right we'll turn the bike on starting at the top we have the energy bar that's going to be a battery capacity you got this bike all charged up for our first person riding footage speed front and center very easy to read even in bright sunlight that's what I really like about this display pedal assist levels zero all the way up through five there is a walk mode if you hold the pedal assist down button and in the bottom we have odometer and pushing the power button will change what that displays trip and voltage and current so if you change it to current here that's where you're actually going to see in the various pedal assist levels how much current is going into the motor and we also have time to get to the advanced settings you're going to hold the pedal assist up and down button at the same time and this gets you into the P settings now I'm not going to go through all the settings because Electric's manual does a really good job of outlining what each one does and that's something that's unique about this bike not a lot of companies allow that much of customization now when we get to the first person riding footage I am going to override the bike to a class 3 bike so we can test out the full performance moving down from there here's the graphic package on the XP 3.0 electric on the side the brand is all about the experience with the XP and 3.0 on the rear rack which I'll talk about and we also have some electric branding on both of the stays here's a look at some of the other cabling running along the bike and there is a stand that's where it rests when the bike is folded I'll show you the battery when I fold the bike but I want to call out where you can charge the bike when the battery is in the frame and just to note that the keys do need to be in the bike in order to operate now I would personally just use the one key and take the extra one off there is a locking pin on the other side of the bike so right now the bike is turned on if I turn the key once to the left it's still going to be locked but now the bike won't turn on and then if I turn the key all the way to the left it is going to completely remove that pin and now I could remove the battery once folded and so if I wanted to ride just make sure the key is turned all the way to the right given this is a folding electric bike we do have folding pedals these are metal pedals if you don't plan to fold the selector bike you could certainly get something with more grip or perhaps some blue petals to match the color scheme to fold these petals simply push in and lift up moving on to the kickstand it is located towards the rear no chance of the pedals coming in contact with it it is a more narrow kickstand so you want to be careful in really soft grass because potentially your bike can really dig into the grass and tip over this is one thing that I think the company can improve on on their next Generation in the rear the other hydraulic disc brake paired with 180 millimeter rotor I do like that they have a torque arm here for increased safety and that motor cable actually comes right down here and enters between the Dropout and the disc rotor there's that cable right here another thing that I love that electric did with this bike just to make it more versatile is they integrated the rack and welded it right to the frame so it has a extremely high 150 pound capacity so you can add the large basket and completely load it up but even more they have the Thule yup Maxi window so you can add a child seat here electric also has their own passenger kit that you can add here complete with pegs and the rear is an integrated tail light though it doesn't offer much visibility during daylight so you might want to consider again some battery operated ones for increased visibility next up we have the motor this is a 500 watt nominal 1000 watt Peak Motor stay tuned for the first person riding footage and we'll really see what this bike can do for gearing in the rear we have a 11 to 28 tooth rear Freewheel and a massive 52 tooth front chain ring again I'll talk a little bit more about the gearing especially at class 3 speeds moving on to the saddle this is electric s'more Sleek looking saddle though they do have a comfort package that you can upgrade to highly recommend that if you're looking for additional comfort you can also check out some of our most popular seats that we see people purchase on our electric bike accessories list now keep in mind when you're watching the third person riding footage that I'm gonna have this seat in its highest position so perhaps if you're taller than me and you want full leg extension you might want to look elsewhere than the XP 3.0 we do have a class 2 sticker on the frame 500 watt top speed of 20 miles per hour again can be overridden and in the rear are some bosses now this is an area where you can mount Electric's folding lock I'll link that down in the description and I'll also include some links to the other electric accessories that I highly recommend next Let's Fold the electric XP 3.0 optional you can lower the hand bars next we'll fold the pedals simply push in and tilt up and on the left pedal or the side I'm standing on I usually find pointing it at 45 degrees works pretty well next we'll fold the handlebars again lift up and pull away next we have the main clasp and I'm actually going to remove the key put the bike in its locking position just to get them out of the way we'll slide and pull and right there that exposes our battery and bring it around put the kickstand up and there you go now the bike is folded sitting nice and flat on the grass now at this point this is where I would recommend putting the bike in our tote we'll put some footage on the screen to give you an idea of what this looks like we'll also put the specs of the Toad on the screen so you know what size you need to look for but having a folding electric bike in a tow just makes it far easier to move around put in the back of of a vehicle put two next to each other of course you can have two people one on each side it's something that I highly recommend whichever folding electric bike that you buy something else you could look at buying is a velcro strap to hold these two tires together maybe you don't want to use a tote but that'll help keep the bike kinda together as you're moving it around next we'll remove the battery again remember I'll need to unlock it so that pin goes in so we can actually remove the battery I'll turn the key all the way to the left until I don't see the pin poking through the frame now before you actually remove the battery it makes sure you actually pull the key out because that will also prevent the battery from coming out now gravity is going to pull the battery out here but there is a handle that you can flip up as well here's a closer look at the battery again this is the standard size battery so 48 volt 10.4 amp hour battery can be charged on the bike or removed there's the plug there there's a closer look at the keyhole you can see all the options unlock off and on keep in mind both the standard and the long range battery are the same size and just a quick plug here they fit perfectly for storage in our waterproof and fire resistant bags that you have here this is the small size again link down in the description you can safely put your battery in this bag and throw it in the back of your vehicle and then you can roll the top down and this bag even has a velcro strap so say you go on an extra long adventure you can bring a spare battery with you and just attach it to your rear rack quick tip for putting the battery back in place is to Simply locate the keyhole and that's going to be pointed downward and then of course you want to match up the terminals right here with them right on the frame that goes to the controller slide it back in place and remember you'll need your keys to lock it a couple other accessories I'll quickly show off is the electric passenger package and this mounts very easily to the Thule up Maxi window as well as in the front here so you can very easily remove the seat it also comes with these pegs which actually replace these bolts right here and of course some handlebars that you can mount to your seat post and next say you have young kids like I do you can purchase the Thule up Maxi seat I'll also throw this link down in the description and it goes very easily into that Thule yup Maxi window push it down in place turn to lock attach the safety strap and you're good to go just to note there is a special setting in the display for passenger mode which is an additional safety feature that electric has thought about all right next let's see how the electric XP 3.0 upgraded Edition performs in our first person riding footage let's see what this bike can do a few things to talk about before we get started with the first person riding footage firstly I did go change this from class 2 mode top speed of 20 miles per hour with the throttle or pedaling to a class 3 electric bike throttle still going to kick off at 20 but pedal assist should continue past 20 miles per hour and again the way you do that is hold the pedal assist up and down button at the same time and hit the power button until you get to 8 p and then you simply change it from 32 to 100 and then get out of the settings now with those settings changed I did notice that the current perhaps not surprisingly changes so you can imagine as a Class 2 electric bike the current you know has a less step up you're not getting quite as much current to get you up to those high top speeds and then changing it to a class 3 electric bike I've been noticing that the current goes even higher in the higher pedal assist modes I'll try to call those out as we go through the various pedal assist modes I have the GPS speed on my phone this is the speedometer app by cool mix and it's on our cell phone mount that we sell at shop.ebikescape.com really love this because it can hold large phones such as mine very securely onto the throttle test in pedal assist level zero you have no access to the throttle I like that as a nice safety feature and then each pedal assist level does coincide with how much power the throttle is going to give you some people might like that some people might prefer just have full access to the throttle at all times maybe let me know what you think down in the comment section below for our first test I'm going to put it in pedal assist level 5 and we'll see this get up to 20 miles per hour for our throttle only top speed and then I'll turn down the pedal assist levels just to give you an idea of how it's a little bit more accessible if you just want to go at a slower speed but still use the throttle all right here we go throttle only in pedal assist level five three two one here we go [Music] 10 miles an hour 13 16 17 18. 19 on the GPS and the electric display is reading just over 20 miles per hour I would imagine on the GPS it's 19 points something so very close to that 20 miles per hour and it's keeping us at this 20 miles per hour using seven or eight amps slowing down from there pedal assist level one throttle only very gentle and I can tell the motor is just barely helping me along and we're using two amps that is actually a really nice helpful thing to have on the display I really like that especially for the review going about eight miles an hour let's go ahead and go into pedal assist level two jump to five going about 10 11 12 maybe 13 miles an hour creeping up a little bit to 14. 15 16 pedal assist level three nine amps is what we're pulling and we're getting up to that you know 20 miles per hour top speed and going up from there and pedal system level four it actually doesn't change because we're of course we're hitting the top speed but if I were to slow down and then pedals this level four I'm using 16 17 amps looks like it's holding at 16 and again getting us to the 20 miles per hour and then again in pedal assist level five the highest output I'm seeing is 19. so that's how the bike performs on flat ground with throttle only now I do get the question can you pedal these electric bikes that I review with no assist and of course the answer is yes the bike is going to function just like a very heavy bike so I shifted all the way down into second gear and I'm going about 10 miles an hour pretty leisurely Cadence though it's really Hills that are going to be a pretty significant challenge I would say all right now let's go through the various pedal assist levels again in class 3 mode I'm going to start in pedal assist level 1 and I shift it all the way down to first gear so I can talk you through how it feels again remember this is a Cadence Sensor electric bike but due to the current base system of their new power controller it provides a little bit more of a natural riding experience it's not like a torque sensor but it's kind of getting there maybe halfway between a speed based pedal assist and a true torque sensor all right pedal assist level one and eases me on nice and easy and again we're just using the two amps seven miles an hour and I could shift up second third gear here maybe even fourth and again it's just going to keep giving me that same amount of light power but we can kind of pedal past that and go you know we're going all the way up to 12 13 miles an hour 14 miles an hour and I can maybe even shift up to fifth gear hitting about 15 and this is a very leisurely Cadence I'm not putting in a tremendous amount of effort at all let's go ahead and go into pedal assist level two all right win up to five amps and staying in fifth gear for now electric display is reading a little bit faster and we're going about 16 17. ish miles an hour all right let's go ahead and go into pedestals level three point nine amps now and I would shift up we're hitting that 20 miles per hour I'm in sixth gear 21 22 and I would probably shift up to seventh gear all right let's go in pedal assist level four and can really feel the power there up to 16 amps 21 miles an hour 23 miles an hour 24. 25 27. 28 29 I saw in the GPS and let's go all the way up to pedestals level five and I believe it's hitting its top speed now or at least what the uh the motor and the the bike is limiting me at because it's just showing 15 amps now but holding me at 28 29 miles an hour to provide effort my Cadence is certainly a little bit sir and I could even you know Force ghost pedal and just spin my legs and not provide any effort and there we go 28 miles per hour no problem keep in mind I am a lighter weight Rider at about 145 or so pounds and not surprisingly just right now in pedal assist level five I slowed down a little bit and it does Peak at 19 amps for the amount of power all right so that's how the bike performs on flat ground with this new controller but let's see how it does up our large Hill Climb test here we are at the hill climb test this is the hill that I test out all the electric bikes that I review on the channel so you can compare and contrast the GoPro makes it look so much smaller than it is so I'll throw the specs of the hill on the screen as well and our first test throttle only and just to note I am one or two bars down on the display this is a 500 watt nominal 1000 Watt peak motor according to Electric and I have no doubt it'll get me up the hill it's just what is the minimum speed so it's holding us at that 20 miles per hour and now the current is reading 19 and I think that's probably where it's going to stay the entire Hill not surprising as we fall below the 20 miles per hour at 15 14. really I view anything in the teens as respectable especially for an electric bike that costs just a thousand dollars foreign and it looks like 14 miles per hour is going to be the minimum speed though it held me at 15 for most of the way so very impressive but this is a electric bike after all so I'll go back down the hill and do it again while pedaling let's see what the bike can do while pedaling I'm going to go into pedal assist level one and shift all the way down though I imagine I'm going to quickly want to go in a higher pedal cyst level [Music] again pedals this level one using two amps first gear and I can feel quite a bit of a resistance this would be a pretty significant workout I might be able to do it but let's go ahead and go into pedal assist level two we are at seven miles an hour before all right we went up to five amps all right creeping up eight miles per hour and can definitely tell difference this is easier and I'm confident I could do this conserve a little bit of battery stay in first gear just go up the hill a little bit slower let's go ahead and go into pedal assist level three creeping up to nine miles an hour again first gear feels pretty comfortable let's go ahead and go into pelvis level four there's 16 amps I'm gonna shift up here that's the biggest climb I think biggest difference between the pedal assist levels third gear fourth gear and not surprisingly we're hitting the 13 14 mile an hour mark and of course pedal assist level five it's going to be the same draw that we are getting with the throttle 16 miles an hour could maybe even shift up to fifth gear 17 miles an hour nice leisurely Cadence cruising up the hill so without a doubt this bike is plenty capable if you live in a hilly area all right with that let's get into some third person writing footage and I'll give you my concluding thoughts on the upgraded electric XP 3.0 you would think that eventually electric would run out of ways to surprise us not so somehow they continue to push the envelope of what you can expect out of an e-bike priced at 9.99 and that's good news especially for those who are just discovering e-bikes because I can confidently say that this is the best cheap e-bike on the market solid components for the price and backed by what I personally believe is one of the companies with the best customer service and if that's all you needed to hear then head to the link down in the description to support our efforts here at ebike escape and get yourself an awesome e-bike but let's dig in a bit further to the biggest selling points stopping power is now provided by hydraulic disc brakes which are easier on the hands offer better stopping power and simply need less adjusting over time it's true that once you try an e-bike with hydraulic disc brakes you'll never want to go back to Mechanical next the new controller being able to select a pedal assist level and continue to get a lot or a little bit of power without it cutting off at a specific speed is in my opinion a better user experience beyond that it's still the insanely popular electric XP 3.0 that launched late last year you get the powerful motor as evidenced by our Hill Climb test and yes class 3 speeds which set this bike apart and then you can choose either the 10 amp hour or 14 amp hour battery for 9.99 or 11.99 respectively if you're asking for my opinion go with the long range model which is a way to Future proof yourself from wanting more range as you inevitably realize how fun it is to ride an e-bike electric XP 3.0 is underappreciated features include the large rack capacity which allows for the ability to haul kiddos in the Thule up Maxi seat and willing lighter weight adults this certainly adds to the fun Factor but plenty of other accessories are available to customize the bike to your needs we personally use the front rack with the Lar large basket frequently the foldable frame makes it have a smaller footprint while stored and it's easier to haul in the back of a vehicle or RV again I would urge you to strongly consider the step through frame for not only looks but also accessibility this is an e-bike that due to the tire size and frame is actually accommodating to Shorter Riders electric States all the way down to four foot ten if you're on the taller end like me at six feet tall just know that you might not get full leg extension with the seat in its highest position if we've helped you decide that any electric e-bike is right for you we'd greatly appreciate it if you use our link down in the description prior to purchase it's free and keeps us reviewing e-bikes like this one we also have videos on every other electric model for comparison purposes and yeah let me know if you've picked up one for yourself and share your experience down in the comment section below thanks for watching and I'll see in the next one [Music] thank you
