entry into Japan is always changing so here's a guide for quick and easy entry into the country let's uncover Japan's entry requirements and crucial things to know to help you start planning your dream trip to Japan before we get into the video please remember to like and consider subscribing these videos take many hours to put together and your support will help the channel grow what are Japan's entry requirements currently 70 countries can access Japan without visa for shortterm stay most countries including the USA UK most Europe Nations and Australia are automatically given 90 days entry however Indonesia and Thailand are currently allowed 15 days entry brunai 14 days and for United Arab Emirates and Qatar passport holders it's 30 days your passport needs to be valid during the duration of your trip and if transiting through other countries those countries might have their own validity period always check the official entry requirements of your country for changes and updates before travel I highly recommend that you register for the vi Japan web it's an online entry portal that allows you to register your customs and immigration entry information that is traditionally filled in by hand on the airplane or at arrival at the airport although doing this online is not compulsory and you can still fill in the paper version registering on the web portal before your trip will not only give you peace of mind before travel but will make entry into Japan faster and hasslefree take note that there have been reports of fake websites and apps I'll leave the link to the official portal in the video description you can register your details as soon as you have your FL number and your first accommodation booked however if traveling after the 25th of January 2024 there is a slight change and a single unified QR code will be provided instead of the current separate customs and immigration QR codes therefore I suggest that you wait to register after this date what do you need during your trip although credit cards are accepted in large stores hotels and restaurants cash is still a necessity in many situations like M and pup stores and street food vendors you'll definitely want some loose change for those GAA claw games and arcade machines my Pro tip here is to get your hands on an IC card which is a rechargeable contactless smart card used mainly for public transportation but also accepted across multiple vendors and even many vending machines IC cards are a convenient alternative to cash or traditional tickets it's important to note that each region has their own version but they're all interchangeable and can be used in the same way across Japan if arriving in Tokyo you'll be picking up a sweet cut passal card whilst if you're starting a trip in Kyo Osaka it's eoka there are two types of cards visitor versions that expire after 28 days and do not allow to refund your final balance and normal versions usually expire after 10 years of last use which allows you to refund your final balance and deposit due to a microchip shortage getting your hands on some of these cards can sometimes be a little challenging and always subject to change so where can you purchase passon weer cards for those Landing in Tokyo pass passport is currently available at haneda and Narita airports and across various stations in Tokyo however welcome s is only available at hanada airport terminal free and if you want to get yourself a normal suer which is valid for 10 years and allows you to refund it deposit before departure subject to change and daily availability these are available from the Jr East Travel Center the same place you get your J pass at either Tokyo shinagawa Shibuya Shinjuku uro or ueno station head to the Jr par section not the normal ticket booth and ask an attendant for a sweer card payment is only by cash I'll leave a link to the official information in the video description just in case things do change in the future or even though I personally tried and tested this out myself you don't believe me if you're on an iPhone I highly recommend you get yourself a digital Saker card simply head to the Apple Wallet app press the plus on the top corner and then add a travel card sua should be available and the Japan once you've topped it up using Apple P pay the card will automatically be enabled and ready to use just like a physical version it can be used in exactly the same way at train gates stores and vending machines Etc it's important to note that some people in the USA have reported issues topping up using Visa cards however there are reports of workaround such as creating an apple Cash Card which can be done in the settings app and the wallet and Apple pay or using a currency card such as wise or revolute and creating virtual Apple pay cards to top up the digital speaker I personally never had any issues creating or topping up other than when the system is undergoing maintenance let us know if you've had problems and found Solutions in the comment section Let's help each other out right next app is a data connection having access to upto-date maps and translation will really make traveling to Japan so much easier and give you peace of mind this is why my biggest tip of all is to make sure that you have access to a data connection such as a pocket Wi-Fi or a data Sim this will mean that you'll always have upto-date maps and point topoint navigation available with Google Maps translate search up opening and closing times of stores and restaurants and even allow you to make online bookings on the go and not to forget access to social media so that you can show off how amazing your Japan trip is I usually use Myaka mobile pocket Wi-Fi to check train times navigate around areas research information was in location and for translation when needed so please consider using my affiliate Link in the video description or the QR code you'll receive a trusted product and I'll receive a small commission at no additional cost to you and you'll be helping out the channel and when it comes to navigating Tokyo my tip for nervous first-time Travelers in Tokyo is to start off by using the yamano line it's a loop line that covers a lot of Tokyo's major spots it runs in two directions meaning that if you do miss a stop or get lost it will eventually loop back to where you started on the topic of being connected here is some of the apps I recommend you set up the obvious ones are Google Maps and Google translate or similar I know there are many other options but I find these easy to use for communication in Japan if you're wanting to make connections with locals you meet you might want to install line which is a messaging app similar to Whatsapp or Telegram and is widely used in Japan and I also recommend that you install an earthquake alert app such as yudi Guru call if you're on an iPhone you can also change your region to Japan and once you're you'll be able to turn on emergency alerts by scrolling to the very bottom of notifications in the settings app I was actually in Japan on the 1st of January when the Noto earthquake hit luckily I was in Tokyo and although I did feel it it was a yurio call app that alerted me to it even giving me a countdown to take cover I now totally understand how having the correct app installed could potentially save lives here are some additional notable things you need to consider when traveling to Japan in in the past the Jr pass was a no-brainer it allowed travel using Jr trains including the shinkansen bullet train at a very affordable price but things have changed and with the recent price increase the pass is less likely to be an affordable option for you and will likely only serve those who are going to do some heavy duty traveling such as moving location nearly every other day therefore before embarking on purchasing a Jr pass for your trip you should use a Japan Rail Pass calculator to compare individual ticket prices gains the pass it's also important to note that if you're traveling with large luggage that might not fit on the overhead shelf on the shin Ken between Tokyo and Osaka and Kyoto for example you will need to reserve the seats at the front or the back of each train car so that you can have a special area to place your oversized luggage this is why I always recommend you forward your luggage from location to location this can usually be done from the hotel's reception and is worth the price for hassle-free no luggage travel you need to inform the hotel you're staying at with the date you want your luggage to arrive at the next hotel and plan accordingly for example I had to drop off my luggage before 1:00 p.m. for my luggage to arrive the following morning in Osaka from Tokyo when it comes to booking hotels and accommodation I highly recommend you start booking early rather than later to secure the best prices and availability in areas of interest and if you do know your itinerary and sites of Interest some might require reservations so I'd personally Reserve these early on so that you don't miss out some locations might not require reservations but having one will guarantee a successful trip and less disappointments locations that I recommend you reserve include Parks such as Disney Universal and gibli observation decks such as a Sky Tree or shiya Sky themed restaurants and cafes like the Pokémon Cafe museums such as team labs borderers and team Labs planets and Cal experiences such as Katana classes or workshops note that some activities are so popular that the tickets go on sale months before and sell out very fast so check to see when each location's tickets go on sale and set an alarm to purchase your tickets so there you have it a
