hello and welcome this is my contribution to the hashtag trash to treasure event with the creative arts collaboration group and the hashtag CAC and there will be a link to the playlist for everyone participating in this and I'll put that link down below in the description as well as in the iCard okay so I just wanted to share with you how I store the aluminum cans and so this collection has been building up over the years and what I normally do I'll get cans like this and I get them mainly from my dad or maybe from a party I don't drink much soda so the most important part I would say is to rinse these cans out before you store them I normally stockpile these for a while and then have a movie night and just do a big cutting fest this came from a cutting fest if you are cutting them as you go which is great too I recommend putting them in an envelope because they store perfectly in here you it reduces the risk of cutting yourself as you're handling them so whenever possible I like to keep them straight this was from a one night cutting fest and it curled on me that's fine I like to keep the bottoms here I love the way that they stack up whoops ha ha and you know here's a little stack this has 33 can bottoms and I just wrapped it up in newspaper and then here is another container with some can bottoms and I mean I don't know if you can see this but it's three layers so I've got that and then here and then I have I can now the tops I was keeping these but I stopped I actually have recycled most of the kam tops and another fun part is keeping the tabs and for those who know how to knit or crochet I've seen some really cute things where they knit and crochet these I haven't worked these into any of my craft projects yet but but I do have a little collection I should have more but anyway I hope that this has been helpful and that it helps you in storing your massive amounts of aluminum cans alright let's go to the project okay so I want to demonstrate to you how I cut the can in a safe way my wearing a glove so when I do the marathon cutting I will wear a glove on one hand and that's my non-dominant hand when I'm holding the can with and what I do is I just take the scissors and poke them in gently okay to get that hole going and then you just cut it if the scissors I mean it's that easy be careful of these little things that go flying if you have a carpeted surface you might want to lay down like newspaper or something to protect that because even with a vacuum cleaner these these can be you want to make sure you can get all of these up and they do you do end up with some of those whoops okay this way I don't normally wear a glove but I do want to demonstrate some safe practices so here is the seam on the can and that's where I like to make this cut and about a quarter of an inch and you don't have to be that far away from the round what you want to do is you want to make sure that you are away from the round this very rounded edge same thing when you are cutting here the reason why you don't want to cut up here really close to the lid is because with this round if you aren't on the flat part of the can you're not going to get a nice flat surface that if you cut into the round at all it's just gonna be problematic so there we go now we have a nice cut and I sometimes cut those off and then just kind of flatten it a little bit you just boil it back now for the next part I have a 2 inch punch this is a Fiskars 2 inch punch and you just slide it in and you can see when see this little edge here okay so you can see sorry I'm trying to reduce the noise here you can see if that is showing going to make sure there's no edges showing and but still get it as close to the edge as you can and then these will pop they don't pop like in your eye or anything but it's a good practice to just kind of cup your hand above it to catch it okay and there you have your 2 inch round okay so let me show you how I'm making the holes top and bottom so that they are even okay so I've taken my scoreboard and I have met marked this line one inch from the edge because this is a 2 inch round and so I'm going to take this right up to the edge and then about 1/4 no I'm sorry about an eighth of an inch in I'm just going to pierce this and one of the reasons why I'm doing this on this end of the board and I'm showing you so that you can see the markings here I actually did most of my actual marking down here at the very end of the board then what I do is I take the needle it's a large I needle here and I will pass this needle through a part of my nails that's from alcohol ink I'm just putting it through I don't know if you can see that difference or not maybe this will be easier it makes it just a little bit bigger so that the split ring can go through okay so I want to demonstrate real quick how to make a very easy split ring we're going to make a large one because we just want that extra dangling height so I have 24 gauge wire here and it's just by the roll and going to snip off a little piece and I'm going to use a sharpie marker as my measure this time because I like the diameter of this point of this end and so I'm just going to hold the wire up against here and wrap it around ok now I've come full circle and I'm going to wrap it around continue wrapping so I'm going around twice whoa hold on stay straight okay and yeah you just want to keep them one on top of the other and where's my where's my end alright so I've gone full circle two times and just slide that off and show you okay so here's my starting point here's my end point and you don't have to cut it right where you started doesn't have to be exact but you do want to spread it just a little bit so that you're not cutting and then I'm just going to kind of anchor this piece of wire with my hand so that see it doesn't go flying and there you have it you have a nice split ring and to join these two now I want what I want with these is when they open up I want one to be on the printed side and one to be on the silver side so if you just remember that you want opposite sides facing or the way I remember it best is that I want to be looking at both of these on the same side okay and so so I'm looking at silver and silver and I'm just going to line these up here like this and take my split ring you can separate it a little bit to get it started especially since you've got whoops huh easy for me to do alright so there we go and this is not going to come off okay so these are on good and you know I mean this little handmade thing that I did wrapping it around a sharpie marker you know it does not look as professional as this if this was an item I was going to make and sell if it was something I was going to give as a gift I really wanted it to look nice and polished I would go with commercially made one just because for me I don't know how to make them this nice but I make enough of them all I'm sure I'll get there but for right now this this works and this is good so look eight strands of five linked circles one strand of seven links and circles for the center and then we can attach bells to the bottom of each strand we're gonna attach these later okay so for the top that we're going to recycle this is a a gallon sized water bottle and I love it because of its shape its square and I just really like this now this plastic here is a little bit harder for me to cut so I've been using a kitchen knife to make my Pierce and I just now so I'm just going to clean it up a little bit there we go nice okay I like that hey my hole punch and in a punch a hole in each of the corners Claire is fun but I want to play with some of these alcohol inks okay so with the lid on I'm putting in some drops of the Adirondack alcohol inks in the yellow green and blue just for some translucent color and I'll put the actual colors down in the description below so here I have the strands with five two in circles linked and I'm just at attaching them to the corners of the of the top and then once I get them in both corners I that's how I determined where I wanted to put that Center one and so I just and for this project it's going in into the center and adding all of the strands now okay so with the Lord I'm taking an eyelet setter and using that to poke the hole in the lid I've also drilled into the hole with you could use a dremel or a regular drill and that's also very easy all right so I just want to show you this okay so here's the lid the hole was made in it and then I put a bead underneath and then just put a loop and then I put a loop here on top of the cap so normally I would have put the swivel hook on round into round end but that's fine I just made a hanger because I need to drop it down a little bit and then I put in and it wouldn't even need to I could have just attached it from here put it on right like that and um you know I don't necessarily need this hanger some so I've got that see how am I gonna do this all right let's do this attach my aluminum piece to the swivel hook there we go now I love that love it okay so this gave me the flexibility I needed see if I didn't do this I would need to be like fussing around in here so it is going to dangle a little bit lower because we've got the swivel hook here to attach and then we're just gonna all right so we now have oh oh a little bit okay okay so I just decided that I didn't like the bright white of the lid so I'm just adding a little bit of color to it and to the rim so here we have it hanging up this is so pretty I absolutely love it and I hope that you've enjoyed this video and that if you decide to try this I do hope that the instructions were clear and thorough now the video did not show it with the beads hanging on it or with the bells at the bottom and I like the weight and also the little jingle that it makes when the wind blows and here just some additional views and I do want to thank you so much for watching and if you liked this video give me a thumbs up and and do subscribe if you haven't already leave me a comment and um you know I'd love to get your feedback on this and I do encourage you to please click on the iCard or in the description below for the links to the playlist for all of the CSC members participating in this trash to treasure event there as some just fabulous artists out there so thank you so much for watching and until next time bye bye
