foreign [Music] thank you [Music] now that you've seen what the mavic 3 Pro is capable of there are a few things that I wish DJI or I hope they can improve in the future but let's go back to the studio and talk about it so let's start with the good but first you need to know that I purchased this drone with my own money nobody sent it to me and because I you know didn't get a pre-release copy or anything like that and I was also on a work trip that was going all over the country and actually a couple of other locations around the world I just decided to take my time with this review really test this drone so I could get a good feel of what was great about it and also what the areas that still need Improvement because there are a few but we're going to start with the strengths of this drone and I know this has been covered a lot but I've got to tell you that I love the main camera on this drone it's a four thirds inch sensor it shoots up to 5.1 K up to 50 frames a second but you can shoot 4K UH 60 or 4K 120 on it and it is phenomenal the colors that come out of it that the dynamic range that comes out of this main camera is absolutely phenomenal so that remains unchanged you also get the variable aperture which is super handy if you're flying in variable light conditions where clouds might be covering the sun one minute and then you might be in full sun the next it just makes it a fantastic usable camera with a 24 millimeter field of view it's great I love it I've fallen in love with it ever since the original mavic 3 came out and then of course all the iteration since up to this one it has been absolutely phenomenal nominal to film with this drone using this main camera and then of course since the mavic 3 was released we've had this 162 now it's 166 millimeter 7x zoom lens or actually telephoto lens but there are some improvements on this particular drone is that now the aperture has been changed from F 4.4 to F 3.4 so it's going to perform a little bit better in low light not a lot but a little bit better because they've changed the Optics there definitely is an improvement over the original telephoto camera I'm not sure what they changed the lens set up something like that maybe how they were making the lenses but there definitely is a little bit better Optical quality coming out of the super telephoto lens on this or camera on this drone at the 7x level but where this drone really stands apart and what I've absolutely fallen in love with is the 3x camera which is a 70 millimeter equivalent and the fact that you can use D log M that is absolutely outstanding because I have actually worked on a TV show with this and worked on some other projects that were pretty big budget with this drone using that 3x Zoom the 70 millimeter camera because it gave me the reach and the feel that I needed to be able to get the shots I needed for the show and because it shoots in D log M you actually can color grade it and because it's 10 bit as well you actually can color grade it to match quite well with the other cameras the coolest thing about this is that it used to be you had to use something like an Inspire in order to get that feel where there's a little bit more lens compression and you just kind of pull the background of the foreground together a little bit and make your subject stand more in this place with the background looking a little bit larger than life and it gives you this effect that is fantastic now of course this camera can shoot up to 4K 60 it is a fixed aperture of f 2.8 which isn't bad for low light but I wouldn't necessarily call this a very low light camera but it does do decently in times like Sunset and shortly after Sunset but another thing that this drone can do with that camera is active track which makes it really useful in situations if you're filming yourself or even if you're doing things where you just need a little bit of extra help in keeping a subject in frame and centered but as you can see here I have my son just basically run around like a wild man and go crazy and just let the active track of the Drone follow him around and it did an incredible job I don't know what DJI has done in firmware updates to the mavic 3 but it they definitely have improved the responsiveness and the ability of active track to do a good job keeping a subject in frame and also avoiding obstacles early on when they first release active track for the mavic 3 it was okay and it struggled in a few places but this uh latest iteration of active track and certainly on this drone in the 3x camera the 70 millimeter camera it is fantastic and the fact that you can use it to actually completely active track yourself or for active track subject car whatever makes it really a great tool to be able to use now and the fact that this whole entire drone fits in your backpack and gives you three options for three very distinctly different feels of the way you can compose a shot whether it's the really wide angle or the more punched in angle with the 70 millimeter camera or the really zoomed in angle with the 166 millimeter camera gives you a just incredible amount of choice and ability to compose different types of shots without having to land a drone and change a lens and because this drone does get very good flight time not quite as good as the mavic 3 because the camera is larger and heavier it definitely eats a little bit of battery life you only lose a couple of minutes so it's still up in the 30 31 32 minute range of actual flight time on the video image quality there's one more thing to note is that you do get 10 bit 422 across across all three cameras if you use the cine version and you shoot in prores but also because I've done so much filming now with the mavic 3 Pro since it was released I really say that uh if you don't want to color grade which I will have Luts for sale soon and they'll be linked in the description as soon as they are um you can shoot in the normal color profile mode and while you do lose a fair amount of dynamic range especially on the Hasselblad camera not so much on the other cameras they all match up fairly well and this will lead into one of my nitpicks about this drone but uh if you just shoot in normal color profile all and make sure you white balance everything like that is good then you get a pretty good consistent output of each of the cameras and it's not you know it looks good you can match them up really easily but if you're shooting in log this is one of the areas that will take a little bit more work to get the colors and the the feel the look of each of the cameras to match up and there's a couple of different reasons for that that we're going to cover in a bit but before we do that I want to talk about the photos of each of these because the main camera is capable of really nice 20 megapixel Stills which look great they're really lots of dynamic range to be able to work with the photos in post and and bring out what you need to bring out the colors of course are great because of the Hasselblad color science that's built into the Drone the 3x camera takes up to 48 megapixel Stills which are surprisingly good definitely not as much dynamic range as the four thirds inch camera but that's not surprising it's a much smaller sensor but the detail and the just the niceness of the photos is actually really fantastic you can see here the amount of detail you get out of this 48 megapixels is really good for such a small sensor you get some great really fine detail in really detailed environments like the side of this building and because the 166 millimeter the 7x camera has been improved as well you actually can get some pretty good decent usable photos out of it as well now they all need to have a little bit of work done to them to really get them to where you want them to be as a good photo camera but it's definitely improved the usefulness overall of this drone and being able to have one drone you take with you and be able to fly around and do a lot of different things with it without having to land switch lenses change anything else you just get a bunch of options right built into the same drone which makes this an incredibly useful tool for photographers and for filmmakers and especially for solo creators there are a few things that I really wish DJI could improve in future firmware updates of this drone and I think they could do almost all of them through firmware updates one is give us control over the in-camera sharpening on camera to M3 the 3x camera and the 7x camera both of them have a lot of processing going on no doubt to deal with the sensor noise image issues that come off of the sensor and the Optics maybe but give us control over the sharpening of the in-camera image the camera the image coming out of each of the cameras in somewhere where we can adjust it so that we don't have to deal with the over sharpened image I found that actually putting a little bit of a filter on there a gaussian filter and like a minus one minus two to bring the sharpening down actually gave me an image more along the lines of what I actually want I hope they give us the option to be able to turn that on or off in the future especially in the 3x camera because I love the 3x camera but it would be much more useful to me to be able to do that in post and turn it off and on the other thing that I've had issues with this drone is what happens when you're starting to fly sideways or doing an orbit motion or something like that is the gimbal will compensate for that and start to move One Direction or the other which is what it should do but because this gimbal is so much larger it has a less much less range of motion before it actually hits the side of the Drone and there have been a few times where I've been doing an orbit especially when it's more of a higher rate of speed that all of a sudden the camera will just limit out and hit the side and then everything the shot's ruined because the camera hit the side and you get this sudden jerky shaky motion and I've also known it too when I've been flying and then all of a sudden stop and decide to do a quick yaw motion where I'm you know spinning the drone on axis to be able to line up for a different shot where the the camera will do that as well it'll hit hard and especially if I'm pan down like there's been a couple of times where I thought the Drone got hit by a bird or something like that because the way the gimbal reacted just it really freaked out and and kind of freaked me out and my last gripe with this drone which isn't really a gripe and it doesn't affect anybody who doesn't live in the EU or at least people who follow the EU rules is this is over 900 grams which means you have a much stricter set of rules you have to follow if you're in the EU or countries that follow the EU rules for drones you have a much stricter set of rules of how close to people how close the structures you can be and you have to get a different type of license or at least if I understand it correctly and I may not you have to get a different level of license or an add-on or something like that to where you can fly this closer to people or closer to structures and objects so because this is over 900 grams you're going to be limited what you can do with it in countries that are part of the European Union um again it doesn't really affect us here in the U.S but it's something you need to be aware of when I first saw this drone being leaked I was not sure what to think because the whole three camera thing just really was throwing me but after using it for a month and a half or however long it's been to say I've fallen in love with this thing both for photos for video work it is an incredible tool that DJI made a massive Improvement on with this extra camera and just some of the other things that they've improved in this particular drone have been spectacular for anybody who does a lot of work with drones is it a worthwhile upgrade if you already own a regular mavic 3 or a mavic 3 classic probably not if you do a ton of commercial work with it then probably for me it is definitely because some of the TV shows I work on or some of the other things I work with that 3x camera has been absolutely phenomenal and that's why I got the cine version is because then you get prores and you get 10 bit across all of the cameras which means they're all a lot more useful now to get the best see both for flying and for camera stuff you're going to want to watch this video right here where I go through and break down all the settings that I use on this drone I'll see you over there as always if you have questions ask me in the comments below or join my live stream which happens Wednesday nights at 4 pm Alaska time 8 PM Eastern I'll see you again soon in the next video cheers
