UniFi Network 8 VLAN Overview

hi I'm Willie welcome to my channel thank you for being here I appreciate each and every one of you and what we're going to take a look at in this video real quick is the new VL lands overview on the new UniFi 8.0 and we're going to compare it to the VLAN page on an edge switch so uh first of all uh UniFi 8 has been released going to do a full build video on that but if you go to the ports icon in8 you get this you get uh ports insights vlans now what this does is if you look at the legend here you're going to see green is tagged gray is blocked and blue is native so your native VLAN is untagged traffic I.E not tagged with a VLAN ID uh we've gone over this several times now if I look I can see all of my VLS here if I flip over to my Edge switch and go to vlans I get a very similar a very similar page it it looks similar however it does work a little differently so if I'm in my vlans page here and I want to change the way these ports are set up so let's say I want to change port five on my Enterprise eight Port switch if I click that it takes me back over to the ports page and then down here there is a there's a VLAN tagged VLAN management so if I go to custom then I can select the Tagged vlands so let's just save that and then my native VLAN is default so this allow all is basically it's a trunk right we're allowing all vlans but this is this is custom so they've re-engineered this a little a little bit I can apply the changes here then go over to the VLS and you can see now that four and two on port five are now blocked because I didn't allow those through when I did that now if I hop over here to the uh The Edge switch I can actually on the vlans page go ahead and start changing you know the the tagging untagging the exempting all those things right here and then click apply so it's got a familiar look Works slightly differently let's hope in the future they actually make it so we can do the tagging and untagging on this page just like we can with the edge switch the edge switch makes that really easy so let me know what you think about this enhancement I think it's nice it gives us a nice snapshot overview of what's happening with our vlans how it's configured so sometimes with UniFi I think it's uh a little different with the way they've changed the language and the location and how the vlans work so I think that this this is definitely a great addition so that you can come to one place see how it's configured then go change it if they can get it where it's like this that would be absolutely fantastic let me know what you think about this down in the comments and if you like this video make sure you give it a thumbs up please subscribe comment and share follow me on Twitter and Tik Tok those links are down below along with affiliate links and a patreon link if you you'd like to support the channel and if you need it Consulting head on over to Willy how.com fill out the contact form and someone will be in touch with you as soon as possible once again I'm Willie I want to thank you for being here and as always I'll see you in the next video
