hey what's up guys so in this video we're going to go ahead and unbox the new Uniden R9 this is uniden's custom installed radar detector and Laser jamming system we're going to go ahead and take a look at everything that's included here in the packaging as well as how everything hooks up together so that uh whether you want to do the installation yourself or you want to take it out to a professional and have them do the install for you this video is going to help get you ready for the install so you have an idea as far as what you're going to get and what to expect with the installation all right so jumping right into things we've got a pretty big box here for the Uniden R9 there's quite a bit of equipment here that it's going to come with and if you take a look here on the side you can see we've got a photo here some of the basic Hardware including your radar detector antenna you're going to have multiple laser Jammer heads the control box which is kind of like the brains of the system control pad display Etc and they've also got a list of some of the basic features here so things like the fact that you've got not just one but two radar detector antennas which is going to give you the directional arrows for radar voice alerts things like that now as far as the final version of the R9 there's gonna be a couple small differences here compared to what you see here on this box they're going to add some things like the fact that the radar detector antennas have lnas built in low noise amplifiers to give them longer range like the R4 and the R8 so they'll add that here things like the fact that they've got Bluetooth built in there's also one small change to the laser jamming setup if you take a look here on the side of the box you'll notice that it says it comes with a four laser Jammer transponders the system here that they sent me for testing just has three but the final retail version is actually going to have all six heads included and if you take a look actually at the rear side of the box you'll see how the system is going to be installed so we're going to have a radar detector antennas installed front and rear like that just like pretty much every custom installed radar detector you've got your different laser Jammer heads they're showing a four in the front like this and then two more in the rear you can set them up however you like so like four and two or three and three and then you install kind of your brains GPS antenna and then inside the car because it's custom installed the only thing that you're going to see is the control pad the display and the remote LED but anyway let's go ahead and open the box up and take a look at everything that's included inside that main box we've got uh three smaller boxes for all the different equipment and if we open that up we've got to look at the CPU itself the main brains of the system we've got the display the controller the GPS antenna it looks like a little USB drive here for your firmware updates then underneath it looks like we've also got the speaker some extra mounting equipment which we'll get to in just a second and then for the other two boxes we've got all the rest of the radar and laser equipment so the two different radar detector antennas a bunch of mounting brackets laser Jammer heads Etc and to get a better look at this once everything is unboxed here as you can see there's quite a bit of equipment here that's included here with the R9 and we're going to go over how all this hooks up kind of Step by Step section by section essentially you've got the main brains of the system the CPU right here that everything's going to plug into including your two different radar detector antennas front and rear you've got the different laser Jammer heads which are going to go in the car these actually have quick release cables that go into longer cables which then plug into that main box right over there which goes back into the CPU that's pretty pretty cool I'll show kind of how that works here in just a minute as far as your interface you've got the wired control pad of course as well as your display which has its own special area it can go into like this into your car so you can install that and that's going to slot in which is pretty spiffy you've got your speaker your GPS antenna your radio mute cable you've got a bunch of mounting hardware including more Hardware than I've shown here and there's the user manual which I've also not shown so there's quite a bit of equipment and so to simplify it let's just go ahead and start going over how all of this is going to work together now taking a closer look at things we'll again begin with the R9 CPU now the design of the CPU looks very reminiscent to what escort's done with the max CI 360. anyways take a look at the R9 CPU we've got a power cable that comes out the side here we've got our power ground and an inline fuse at the very top here we've got a couple different color-coded ports and this is going to be for most of the equipment that's going to plug in here to the R9 it's got these four pin RJ connectors like this and so let's say you wanted to plug in the wired key pad there's a green tag on it right here just going to plug into the green keypad Port so really simple and straightforward just clicks into place like that and then if you need to remove anything there's just a tab that you press on the back right here just to pop it out so very standard and straightforward on this side we've got two more ports for the speaker and for the audio option the unit and speaker has this two pin connector like this which is going to slide right in there and then alternatively if you wanted to just plug in a regular speaker and the headphone jack you can do that right there and then at the very bottom of the CPU we've got a USB port this is going to be for your firmware updates and so to update the firmware or the red light camera database you're going to download it off uniden's website copy the files over here and then just plug it in to the USB drive like that the R9 that I have doesn't have an extension cable to maybe run it out somewhere else more conveniently so it looks like you're either going to want to get one yourself or you're just going to want to make sure that you've got the CPU installed somewhere convenient so you can always plug in and a thumb drive like this to get all of your updates loaded and then as far as the interface because it's a custom installed radar detector you're not going to see a whole lot you've got basically three different things we've got the wired control pad like this to interface with the system so to mute and lock out signals turn it on and off to adjust the detector's volume or change settings basically to control the system you've got the control pad here we've got the display itself which is going to allow you to see the different alerts and see the direction of the alerts front and rear and then we have an alert LED as well which can light up when you get different radar and Laser alerts and one quick thing to note about installing the display is you can always use the included double stick tape and then just attach the display itself directly to your dash or something but if you want an even cleaner looking install they also have the special bracket that it's going to ship with essentially you're just going to want to ideally have a professional do this but they can cut a hole in your dash for this display bracket to sit in and then once you've got something fabricated for this holder to slot into the display itself then can just slide inside like this and now you've got something that's going to be more clean and blended with your vehicle itself it seems to basically just be a friction fit and it does seem to do a good job as far as holding the display and it doesn't pop out or anything but if you need to remove it I mean you can always just push it from the back like that and it comes out but otherwise just a nice clean way to get the system installed and look good too and then as far as other things that also plug into the CPU besides the speaker and the USB thumb drive which we've already talked about there's things like the GPS antenna to get your GPS information I have noticed that this antenna is not magnetic unlike some other GPS antennas and so you're going to want to use the double stick tape to get this installed somewhere in your car out of the way and then you've also got a radio mute cable if you want to have the detector actually mute your car stereo when you're picking up different alerts and then moving on to the radar detector portion we've got two different antennas front and rear the two antennas are identical so it doesn't really matter which one you choose to run the front and the rear it's just like the rodenso RCM in that regard though it's different than the escort Max CI 360 which has a better newer antenna for the front antenna and uses kind of older technology for the rear antenna with the R9 the two are going to be identical now connectivity wise you've got a cable that runs out the back and then there's going to be this kind of twist lock connector here here to a second cable which is going to run into the CPU these two are actually color coded so red for the front and orange for the rear and this way if you've got this installed somewhere in the grill and let's say it gets damaged or whatever happens you need to replace it or send it back for warranty work you can remove this and just disconnect it here at the quick release connector and not have to pull the cable all the way back through your firewall or something so again really nice to have these quick release connectors like that and again you've got the same thing here for the rear antenna which is going to go somewhere kind of in the trunk rear bumper type area on your vehicle next let's take a look at the laser Jammer portion so over here we've got the purple port for the laser jamming option we've got a long extension cable out to a Twist lock quick release like this that runs out to the laser distribution box now for this boxes we're going to have all of the different individual laser jamming heads connected so six cables like this with twist lock connectors that are going to run out to long extension cables like that and then another twist lock quick release that's going to run to each individual head now once you've got everything installed you can actually go into the r R9 and tell it which of the heads are installed in the front and the rear and you can also assign RX and TX or receive and transmit specifically for if you're going to be encountering different Dragonite guns and you can reference all those details and specifics in uniden's documentation unlike some other laser Jammers which are going to have fixed assignments for which plugs are for the front and which ones are for the rear with this one you can totally control it yourself so if you want maybe three in the front three in the rear you can do that or if you want to do four and two or maybe even all six heads up front you can do that here and speaking of front and rear installs let's talk about that here real quick too now this laser distribution box it's waterproof so if you want to install this in your engine bay you can do that and that's going to be especially useful if you want to do a front only installation because you've essentially got one cable for laser coming out here which is going to run through the firewall of your vehicle and then this is going to be going into the engine bay and then you've got these cables here which are going to go directly to the laser Jammer so you've essentially got only one cable running through your firewall so you're gonna have a smaller hole in your firewall than if you you had to run a bunch of individual cables for each head now that said if you wanted to do front and rear okay well you're going to have to one way or another run all the cables to here so maybe you're going to have let's say if you're doing three and three like this this can be installed kind of inside the vehicle cabin and then these three cables are going to go out through your firewall or if you wanted to maybe you could put this in the firewall and then have the three rear cables running back into the uh the engine bay so I guess you would have four cables total one like this and then three rear ones running back to the rear of the vehicle then taking a closer look at the laser Jammer heads themselves uh we can just peel off that there design wise it's going to be similar to the competition but not exactly the same if I pull up some other heads here I've got the Uniden head on top an escort head here in the middle and then a TMG head on the bottom you're going to see design wise they're pretty similar but the internet head is going to be a little bit wider and it does have these extra screws here which I don't think are that attractive but that's the way uh that the heads are designed in terms of thickness it seems to be pretty similar to the competition again we've got Uniden escort and TMG I don't have an Alp one handy I think that one's actually a little bit shorter front to back but either way it's going to be fairly comparable in this regard you're also going to notice that over here on the side there's a couple holes and the holes are going to be for the mounting brackets and so you're basically just going to be able to uh connect the mounting bracket like this the bracket is then going to attach the vehicle and then you're going to have the ability afterwards to go and adjust the exact tilt and angle of the head itself and then get everything tightened up and dialed in and because with laser Jammers proper installation is so critical you really want to make sure that they're installed straight and level unit is going to include a bubble level just like most other manufacturers that you can just use to get everything leveled nice and straight once you get to the installation and then some similarly on the radar side we've got a variety of different mounting options we've got different style brackets like this as usual we've got different clamps that you can use if you want to clamp onto your car and they're all going to be installed on the side of the radar antenna like this you can see that we've got some different rails right here and with those rails you can just connect the different brackets and they're just going to screw into the side right there you can use these vertical brackets if you prefer or you could use the included clamps like this depending on whatever's best for your car and then of course you're going to have a bunch of things like your different screws for the different brackets double stick tape to get things installed and then zip ties for all the cables once you're ready to clean things up and so this is all going to be super helpful whether you want to do the installation yourself or you want to take it to a professional all right and now that you're familiar with the system itself what's included in the box and how everything hooks up you're going to have a better idea as far as what to expect for the installation whether you want to do the install yourself or you want to take it to professional and have them take care of it for you then once you've got everything installed it's time to start using the system and for that I'm going to have some additional videos available for you too things like my complete review of the R9 we're going to go over test results we're going to go over how it compares to other systems we're going to go over how to set up and configure the system how to get it programmed right and so for all those additional videos you can stay tuned for that I'll have links down in the video description for when those videos are ready as well and as far as where to pick up the system if you'd like to purchase it I'll have a link to that down in the video description too and so with that said thanks so much for watching hope you're all doing great and I'll see in the next video
