UFC 259: Live Weigh-in Show

hello everybody and welcome to las vegas we are just a day away from ufc 259 weigh-in set to go on inside the ufc apex where we are in just a matter of moments one of the best fight cards in ufc history a live look at the stage right now and again just minutes away from the fighters taking the stage for the official weigh-ins amanda nunes the greatest female fighter of all time will be the first to go and this is going to be fun welcome inside the studio everybody what a crew we have here today dan helly alongside laura senko michael kiesa and of course former champ champ daniel cormier who looks like he is already the wheels are turning there's going to be some trouble on this end of the desk i believe listen there was trouble yesterday he didn't stop talking until about five seconds ago this is going to be a wild ride for sure yeah and he's already picking on the new guy on campus look i'm just excited to be here it's weigh-in day usually i'm the guy stepping on the scale so i'm fully hydrated ready to go super excited for this show okay sure you're the only guy that still fights guess what when you're a new guy as mike said consistency is key he was supposed to wear a suit this morning i mean come on consistency is key because you don't know who i mean michael kiesa on this desk that's new you got to be consistent you're trying to try it like this is what you guys should do did you did you make him have his chair extra low yeah again he just doesn't understand direction if he had his suit coat on he would listen a little better right it would make him feel like he's at work well if i had my suit coat on i want to jack my chair up a little higher all right these two are going to be going out at the entire show we're going to be visiting with all of the big names on this card some special guests as well speaking of the card let's take a look now at the early prelims a lot of familiar names on here for me guys from the contenders series like kennedy and zacchukwu carlos olberg alon cruz euros medic a fight between two guys who are alums of the contenders series early freelancer 5 15 on ufc fight pass and espn plus and the prelims on espn at 8 30. headlining this dominant cruise casey kenny i cannot wait for that one sonja doon and kyler phillips phillips going at it as well and then we have the main card on espnplus.com ppv that starts at 10. i cannot remember the last time we have seen a main card that was this stacked three title bouts on the card this is going to be awesome let's bring in the voice of the ufc our main play by play man john anakin john this is easy man just a walk in the park you got 15 fights you got 30 fighters i can't imagine what you've been doing all week bro well first of all sounds like kiesa got after it a little bit last night we respect that but yeah 30 fighters is a lot i'm not going to sugarcoat it especially for me coming off of back to back but thankfully as i sit here talking to you danno all of the fighter prep is done we have a lot of show formatting to get to tonight i'll probably be uh banging keys till about 1am but uh championship triple header i would have it no other way yeah i mean it's nice just to call a title fight and you're going to have as you mentioned a triple header three of them on this card what an unbelievable night this is going to be for john hannick it's going to be great and amanda nunes is on this fight card and she is the consensus greatest women's mixed martial arts athlete of all time and every time she competes in some way shape or form she is putting that legacy on the line so it's always special to see the lioness on the card and and what a bantamweight title fight we have essentially a pick and fight according to the odds makers and they've seen two-way action so the betting line hasn't moved all that much gonna be interesting to see where it closes but uh it is an embarrassment of riches to say the least here at 259 buddy what's the vibe black back there man i'm sure you've talked to everybody nobody can miss you in that jacket by the way annika yeah i don't know if i'm pulling off this jacket today but it's a little nod to the brazilians and the jamaicans who are on this fight card but no it's a little bit subdued of course a lot of these athletes are hungry so i try to keep my distance right now but just excited to see how this thing plays out hopefully it'll all stay together and uh excited to see our broadcast partner dominic cruz walk in the building here in the not too distant future it's been a long training camp for him and excited to see what he can do in an unfamiliar role pre-lim underdog for dom here tomorrow night yeah it's been a while uh i've been a long time since we've seen dom in that role very much looking forward to that fight uh as i am this entire car john aneck going to be with us throughout the show john thank you very much we are also as promised going to be visiting with a whole slew of fighters many of which are going to be sitting right here at the desk some are going to be joining us uh via satellite and uh we're going to have a lot of fun chats israel at asani amanda nunez all jermaine sterling dom's going to be up here corey santegan coming up at 12 25 eastern and then valentina shevchenko uh joins us at well at 1 00 p.m eastern you got you got your questions all lined up dc i usually try to shoot from the hip i shoot from the hip you know all this practicing and planning you know is not really my style kiesa has a bunch of notes right here prepared just like you're supposed to shoot from can we talk a little main event yes we can um yambukovic and israel had a sign i mean super fight champ versus champ madison you're moving up obviously with his first title defense this is one we have been waiting to see for a while and i feel like this guy still doesn't get enough respect obviously the last style bender uh one of the best to ever do it how do you see this one breaking down dc well you see it right you even see it in the highlight package because the highlight package starts with israel at asanya because he's the star right he's the guy going up trying to make history but jan velhovich takes every opportunity to prove people wrong he loves being in his underdog role i spoke to him on twitter earlier in the week and i asked him i go man do you relish the opportunity to just explode the plans and he goes every single time man i cannot wait uh end this one out at the co-main event the women's featherweight bout between amanda nunes and megan anderson the best female fighter of all time she's beaten all the greats and then you have the aussie three and two the former invicta uh featherweight champ coming in here with great reach this is this is a tall woman a talented fighter but a big underdog here yeah listen this is goliath versus david on paper you know amanda nunes can knock you out she can sub you up she can do everything and she does it with this level of viciousness that nobody has been able to withstand thus far but the thing about megan anderson is david in this situation is the bigger fighter she is a real featherweight she has very long arms and legs she'll blind you with that jab let you taste that right hand right when you think you're out of range she'll throw that giant head kick and man i think she has some real tools presented in a way that might really challenge amanda you're pointing at me i like that laura hey laura started going down to david versus goliath but david's the bigger fighter laura that's what i'm talking about you saw that that was nice nice i see what you're doing here let's talk about a third title about pioneer uh algemane sterling yan defending his title for the first time has not lost in ufc sterling really fighting the best he has in his career yeah and a lot of people have this build as the striker versus the grappler but alderman sterling has shown especially in the pedro munoz fight that he's got elite striking skills but i mean his pension is the grappling he is the human backpack he is the funk master he's he is dynamic on the ground but he's going against pioneer who peorian's got a very well-rounded game as well the dynamic striker that he just does not get tired this guy can fight from both stances he's all offense and i predict these guys do have one of the best most exciting fights of the night and it's it a lot of people have algo as the underdog the people's consensus is he is the underdog but this is the tightest betting line on the card this is just the seventh time in ufc history that we've had three title fights on one card you've been a part of these before for the guys that aren't involved in the title fight do you feel how big it is just being a part of it well so at ufc 200 we had three title fights obviously mine fell off with jones then we did it at ufc 214 and when you have three championship fights the entire build up just feels bigger because you understand from the guy that opens the fight card to the guy that walks last how big a moment and an opportunity you have to make a lasting impression it's like nothing you've ever been associated with the only way that you understand it is by feeling it and all these athletes that are going to step on the scale today walk into the octagon tomorrow are feeling how big it is to be a part of such a massive fight card it's tremendous man and to have a super fight to end the night second to none i've never gotta partake in a triple header but i've been a part on some really big cards but the energy is just great and all eyes are on these athletes all the you know the more title fights that the card is stacked with the more attention that the media gives it and it gives every every fighter on the card their opportunity to shine but the triple header i mean it's gonna it's gonna be something special and i'm really looking forward to it and not just as a triple header you actually have four champions fighting and you know when you have a card like this like you said dc even the guys and the gals lower in the prelims they feel that energy but they also they're looking up the line at who they want to become you know they're looking at those champions for inspiration and i truly believe that the energy of a fight night like this affects people's performances and you see the best out of people absolutely you know what's crazy is like before you had it was hard to find the energy because the fights were in the apex no fans but with this one you can feel it already and you start to build that the weigh-ins about to be underway amanda nunes the greatest women's fighter of all time uh is going to be stepping up to the stage here in just a moment and you guys have been a part of so many of these weigh-in days that the you kind of know generally you know if you're going to make it right you've only missed one yeah i missed one that was my last fight at 155 pounds and i don't ever plan on going back but look this is the most stressful part about the training camp the fight becomes the reward essentially you know how it is daniel when you spend your whole camp focusing on your diet you're so focused on the weigh-in day it's not that you lose sight of the fight but the toughest part of the camp is what goes down on this day and then the fight is the reward you look like a different person by the way like a different person and here she is right now amanda nunez coming to the scale this is uh this is what i'm looking forward to against megan anderson listen it it is a david and goliath match up you have nunes who's like i mentioned beating all the greats rousey and cyborg and holly holm but things have changed a little bit this is her first fight now as a mom yeah things are changing her her entire uh life is changing it has changed since she had those big fights but this is this weigh-in at 1 45 for amanda although it still isn't easy this is the fun one right yeah 135 is the weigh-in where amanda has a little bit of butterflies going on to the scale right now she's fine she knows she'll make the way she looks happy we're actually walking back to the stage i started she's seen her daughter she looks happy let's see if she looks on the scale let's listen in 1 145 the official weight for amanda nunes championship weight right there coming in right on the butt on 145 dc absolutely no reason to lose any more than you need to she looks fantastic but this is the thing about amanda nunez it wouldn't matter to me if amanda nunez looked heavy she would still fight in the way that she doesn't contender getting his first ufc championship opportunity tonight aljamain sterling what's up guys it's alderman the funk master sterling i fight out of sarah longo in long island new york hey guys at the desk let these fans know how i'm going to beat piotr young tomorrow night oh man no pressure no pressure al jermaine i think al jamaine i mean he's going to get it done by the wrestling peoter yon is so good at imposing his will with most fighters i just don't think he's going to be able to do that to al-jamin sterling he's so good at the boxing range but aljamain sterling has those kicks he can change levels get it done there i want to hear what he weighs 134 and a half 134 and a half the official weight for aljamain sterling yeah i like that for you know sterling usually has a lot bigger chain but i think to go down to the 135 championship wait wait downsize the chain a little bit that's a real change the big one's fake the real one has to be like real size looking shredded though he looks good man he does i mean this guy right now now some relief as he gets ready to go rehydrate get bigger and better for the fight tomorrow this is the hard part of a championship fight making sure you step on the scale at the right number now he's right back to work getting back healthy and coming up we have a contender series alarm alignment in the ufc's lightweight tampa native season 3 the contender series moving up to lightweight from 145. um this this is a fun fighter to watch he loves that front kick senko he he for sure doesn't i'm excited to see what he can do at lightweight because man he looked good at featherweight on the contender series it's the first time and the only time i can think of where when he got that flying knockout dana you know flew a few or you know let a few bleeps fly and then uh you know made that signature in the air like hey you got the contract right there so i think you know he's a very impressive guy and i think he this is going to be a fantastic fight because he's fighting another guy coming off the contender series in uh i think that's going to be a fantastic 155 on the nose and he looks shredded at 155 pounds so i can't imagine what that cut to 145 was like i mean he looks to be the fitter guy at 155 i mean that extra 10 pounds he's so long too mike he's so long he's got like a 78 range i think you speak to that better than anyone right when you go to the correct weight class it looks like maybe alon cruz is in the weight that might be best for him there's a look at alexander rockets the uh fourth ranked title contender at light heavyweight taking on uh thiago santos obviously yeah this guy is an elite athlete at 6-3 this guy moves like a bantamweight and to me i think that if he can get past thiago santos he is going to solidify himself as the next contender behind glover to shara to contend for the title but i mean i this guy's all acting very dynamic moves well strong hard puncher fast starter i could go on and on about my man alexander rockage i saw rockets at the pi last night still was moving with a ton of energy cutting weight he didn't look like he was hurting he's putting in some really good work to say that he was getting so close to weight so it speaks to not only the physical talent of this young man but also the mental toughness that he possesses in order to get through those weight cuts in the way that he does because look at how big he is heavyweight contender former world title challenger thiago mahetta santos and here is his opponents on saturday night thiago santos been almost two years since his last win dc you know thiago santos finds himself in a position where he really needs to get something big done you know the last fight was the first one back from injury and he did not fight well i'm not going to sugarcoat it it was not a great performance by thiago santos but you know at his best he's one of the best light heavyweights in the world let's see if he can turn the clock back a little bit and get back to that guy that just about became the ufc champion a couple years ago big he has a big task in front of him but if anybody can get it done it's this young man he possesses unbelievable striking another physically massive guy for the weight division and um hey they've got some momentum him and his girlfriend had a big his girlfriend had a big win a couple weeks ago let's see if thiago would keep the ball rolling yeah and like you you were just saying he's in the correct weight class this is a guy that bought all the way down at 170 pounds before you don't want to see thiago santos at welterweight it was it was a scary sight my name is drew dober fighting at team elevation i treat fighting like dancing having fun and making it my own trees fighting like dancing i like dover listen drew dober i've been watching drew dober for a very long time i remember him fighting back in nebraska uh you know in his early stage in in victory and he's got a tough task ahead of him in this fight but i can tell you he can get it done about anywhere in his last three wins you've really seen him come into his power he's been landing that left hand and uh coming in on a three-fight win streak and uh looks to be very good spirits there on the scale as well winking at somebody i'm glad you brought up his power because i feel like he's one of the more underrated power strikers in the division that fair to say 100 and a little fun fact about drew dobre you guys might not know this guy used to be a baker and he fancies himself donuts made from scratch this is this is a baker he's a he used to be a baker this is a fact i look at i look at drew dolby on the scale and when he steps into the octagon he fills up a lot he's real big when he goes in there compared to the way he looks right now so dober's pulling off some real weight next fighter tomorrow when he steps into the ocean and here is another contender series alum jordan espinoza he was on seasons one and two dc were you there were you there you were another season one were your season two uh you can't remember you you know what you're so multi-platform now you're just doing so many different things he can't remember what he was on you know i'm an old man right so the time goes and the memories fade but jordan espinosa is a guy that has one memory that he'll never forget about that's becoming a state wrestling champion a guy that wants to put the pace on his opponents take you down grind on you and make you uncomfortable listen everything has not gone according to playing the jordan espinoza but if he can right the ship this is all he wants to do is get rolling in the right direction consistency is where he needs to it's what he needs to achieve if he's going to get where he wants to go it's so crazy watching these young men and women earn contracts on the contender series and then be so happy but then that introduction to the ufc can be very tough fighters to make the walk here tomorrow night at ufc 259 the undisputed ufc light heavyweight champion jan blehovich he is half of our main event taking on israel adesanya jan hovich the uh polish power he brings into the octagon is uh is something to see folks yeah it's unbelievable you know people aren't really understanding what jan beholves possesses because when he touches people he shuts the lights out the way that he knocked out luke rockhold so we knocked out corey anderson let's get this wait 205 205 the official weight for the chamber the hole this looks fantastic i mean looks in great shape and man he's a big light heavyweight he will wait over 220 tomorrow as he steps into the octagon i like yambohovich because he has been able to shut out all the disrespect and continue down the path to becoming a world champion this young man is not someone to overlook in israel to sign you better be ready our beholder is gonna put him up this is a guy that was two and four in his first six fights in the ufc he has been an underdog in eight of his 11 fights i don't understand it when this guy look at the knockouts he's had in his last three fights he has put away some serious contenders this guy's a real threat israel out of sight he's gonna have his hands full yeah that's gonna be a good one uh here's the veteran tim elliott and uh somebody that laura you're very familiar with i am right yes i'm very familiar with until tim elliott and i have trained together for a really long time and man i'm just i'm so excited to see him back in kansas city now working again with james krauss because he's really injected the thing that tim's been missing for a streak now which is the fight iq the systemization to his game organizing him and uh you know allowing to use his natural attributes which are he's just awkward i mean it's his name right he's so he's awkward to grapple he's awkward on the feet and uh you know he gave demetrius johnson possibly one of the toughest rounds of his career now here's a look at kai kara france a tough 24 alum lost his uh last fight he was uh subbed via guillotine choke in september but he comes in with a 4-2 record in the ufc city kick boxing you know those guys are a strong team love each other and kai kar france is looking to right the ship in order to go back in the direction that he was heading but that fight that he lost was a crazy fight right so losing a fight is one thing losing the way that he did is another but kai kar france is so committed that during training camp had a kid didn't even miss a session went right back to the gym and got the work put in in order to do what he's hoping to do yeah 100 percent i think the royable fight was just my next fight is one of the biggest chances this is a big one guys otasanya the other half of our main events yo what's up my name is israel i disoriented the last style vendor and one thing people don't know about me yet is i'm gonna be double champ longer than dc trying to become the fifth fighter in ufc history to hold two different belts at the same time and uh i think we could probably all name 100 those five guy or those four guys who have done it before conor dc amanda nunes and henry cejudo 201 pounds he was talking about coming in that goes to show you the place that israel is in as he heads into this championship fight steps on the scale with a pizza said he would be in the mid 90s 201 pounds is a great weight class for this guy a great weight to step on the scale i mean listen title fight is done we got one that's complete right let's see and hope that the other two go according to plan 100 and some of the greatest fighters we've ever seen in the ufc are the greatest at mental warfare in israel out of sonia he's got a pension for it my name is carlos oldberg fighting out of city kickboxing in auckland new zealand and i'm here to show the world that there is a new light heavyweight contender carlos olber making his ufc debut laura listen he made a huge impression last season on the contender series he's very young in his career and usually dana will not sign guys that are that young in their career but that's the level of impression that he made i mean he's obviously he's addisonia's teammate that's the big talking point but he's so much more than that he's 5-0 he's got four finishes and he is at the one of the best gyms in the world training with the best guys big tall guy 6-4 good kick boxer is olberg and right now we have amanda lemos amanda limo spoke about almost retiring from fighting right got a job they called her back to fighting a while back she came back and not only has she come back to fighting she's actually gotten everything going the right way she lost her ufc debut has won two in a row and has looked really good in doing so 116 the official way i stopped i stopped talking there for a second because that scale was moving up and down the limo she got it she made the weight the way she wanted to be at and uh good job lavinia sousa is going to be using the curtain for her weigh-in that is uh blemishes opponent shawn brady is next year momentarily and then it's peyote the champ yeah sean brady's the guy i'm really looking forward to competing on this card i spoke to paul felder who's teammates with sean brady he said this is the strongest guy he has ever trained with this guy's a daniel gracie black belt he's really rounded his game off well as we saw with his striking in the last fight but his the staple to his game is his groundwork he's a smother he's good he's got smothering top position his choke game's awesome i mean he caught a one-armed guillotine which you don't see very often in the ufc so that's just a testament to how strong sean brady is definitely definitely going to be a problem going forward in the welterweight division inc too sorry yeah no no not to mention that i mean or sean brady yeah that's that is strong 28 years old from philly he's never lost he's never lost as an amateur he's never lost in ufc he's never lost as a pro and there's a little space left on on there's a little bit left for him to get uh get a few more right next one to the scale is the undisputed ufc and now it's the other half of our of our bantamweight title fight we've tomorrow night waiting algerman sterling but pyotr young this is his first title defense this guy i just i love watching him i love watching him fight as we wait for the weight 135 even piotrion is a savage man 135 pounds he looks good physically and when you watch peorian compete you understand that it's pace and pressure from the moment the fight starts he extends you to a point where your body starts to fail physically and that's why you see peorian getting finishes and having the impressive run to a title that he's had in his ufc career so it's been fantastic it is official sterling and pyotr yahn will be fighting they have made weight in that uh bantamweight title fight and this is fun because you have you have two guys just kind of right at the peak i don't know that we we've seen sterling fight better than he has in the last few fights and then piotr can just be a technician in there here's song yadong and this is another guy who this story this is wild his story just kind of bouncing around china for a while yeah he asked his parents if he could attend a martial arts academy where it's very kind of military style something you see in like a bruce lee movie and he ascended to the top of his class and then that was at 16 years old and essentially he became a nomad started traveling around china taking fights and going to get to the best training he possibly could and then with 19 years old when he had his last loss he moved his camp to team alpha male and he has not lost a fight since then he moved there when he was 19 and he's the youngest guy on the card at 23 years old and he's already got 21 pro fights and he's only 23. so wow the ceiling's high for sony dong for sure mario bautista on deck and look at that look at that 10.90 look at that kentucky waterfall the mississippi mud flat mario batista what a mullet let me tell you something it's all business up front the party starts right behind the ears right behind the ears is where the party starts and mario batista look at that that's the type of guy you want to be hanging out with sit on the back of the pickup have a couple brews but not but not the guy you want to get in a fight with no you don't want to fight him but you want to hang out with mario but guy gets a mullet i see a guy with a mullet i follow him to figure out where the party's at you know this is a guy his ufc debut came against corey sandag and that's a tough first out but since then he's rattled off two wins two performance of the night bonuses this guy's all action yeah ufc 247 he stopped miles john's with that flying knee in the second round he's had some spectacular finishes we have had 17 guys so far as kyler phillips comes up to the scale all 17 have made weight so that's the good news and you're talking about hair guys this is this is pretty good it's pretty good that's a pocket-sized jason momoa right there tyler tyler didn't look like this before he was on the ultimate fight he had some short areas he's sometimes you can be a good looking kid with short hair dan helly van haley grows long hair you might not be as attractive that's kyla phillips kyla cut your hair [Laughter] no no no tyler cut your hair don't listen kyla cut your hair no i might have to take a fan we might have to take a fan pole later on to see if kyle should cut his hair and not gotta let that that hair go here's uh trevin jones dc what do you like about trevin i mean let me tell you something this guy showed in his fight against uh tamir valium how tough he is understand that he came with no contest but for him to survive and come back and win the fight in the fashion that he did showed the heart and determination that he possesses now he's back fighting the guy you said that uh the last guy fought cory standing in early so did trevin jones trevon jones made his debut against san hagen right so it's like very difficult to take the path that this young man has taken and find himself again with an opportunity to make a statement new orleans native moved to guam when he was 13. could be looking to i'll tell you man you know that's crazy you you live in new orleans you live in louisiana the greatest place in the world and you move to guam come on come on you want to stay in louisiana training you want to stay in louis anybody should want to be in louisiana where are you this do you understand that i is 180 of my days in louisiana yeah so you you and dustin poor you have created this myth that i don't live in louisiana i do shout out to the diamond 180 days trying to get that tax advantage oh my god who do we have coming up here jake matthews jake matthews you know this guy's two years younger than sean brady but very much the ufc veteran i mean this guy he's got a win over lee jingliang who's the number 12 ranked lightweight and one thing for you for the people they're listening and watching that know about wagner rocha in the role he's on as in on the grappling circuit this guy has a submission win over wagner rocha in the ufc so jake matthews playing the veteran role even though he is the younger fighter and they he has a very parallel style to sean brady he's just a little more wild where shawn likes to smother his guys jake matthews will take chances i'm really excited for this fight i think whoever wins this fight moves in to the bottom of the top 15. gonna be a good scratch you talk about experience 26 years old 14 ufc fights already from matthews that's that's that's two that's two one or two fights less than me or more more than me i haven't that's so crazy that somebody has more fights than michael cuesta right now oh it's so crazy this guy's got more fights louisiana set you off here's my man joseph benavidez listen we spoke to joseph benavidez on wednesday and for me to really get to the emotional place that he's in right now and him open up with us in the way that he did very very inspiring to see a man who now competes just for the love of fighting when he fought for titles your whole career sometimes it's hard to find motivation joseph benavidez is not having any issues with that what's up guys my name is urosta dr medic some may know me as serbian samurai i fought a contender series and i'm here to bring in the heat taking on another contender series alum in alan cruz senko listen this guy is no joke he is undefeated at 6-0 with a hundred percent finish rate he moved to the united states uh when he was about uh 15 years old just kind of picked up from serbia and came over here moved to alaska but for this camp he was training at king's mma so he's in the room with a bunch of killers getting better and better every single day uh got that first round knockout on the contender series and i cannot wait to see what he does now in the ufc yeah another guy i can't wait to see islam uh makashev this this is a guy you are very familiar with and by the way he is getting a lot of love right now i don't he's no he's not a secret as he should right as he should hillary this man is so good from the moment he came you know habib came to aka way back in 2012 first guy to come with him was islam islam showed immediately that he was much look to drew dobrik being big when he rehydrates wait until you guys see islam hashem tomorrow night the dude is a savage in his hey all of my kids on my wrestling team do it based on what islam showed i'm former band away champion dominick cruz make sure to tune in tomorrow night when i compete hey dc why don't you go ahead and let him know how i mix my takedowns into my striking better than anyone yeah that's my boy right there cruz dominic cruz can mixing and striking and takedowns like people most people can't because of the awkwardness of his movement he'll hit you with the right hand right he'll hit you with the right hand from a southpaw position but then switch to his single leg his doubling he's also been training with roman bravo young who's also from tucson one of the best wrestlers in ncaa dominic can wrestle at a high level but it's his ability to process information much quicker than most people that allows him to be so special looking forward to dominic uh fighting in that one on the prelims for the first time in seemingly uh forever lavinia souza up next on the scale as we are now through 24. dom was the 24th fighter to make weight let's see if sosa mosvital of the women's strawweight division she is absolutely no joke grip in the favelas of sao paulo and you see that grittiness that's that streetness come through in her fights she's a pretty small straw weight usually she certainly wasn't invicted but i mean i've seen her knock girls out with body kicks she's just nasty and she she has an incredible submission game uh to go with those strikes as well all right we are getting down to the end here just a few fighters left to weigh in rogerio bonterine is stepping to the scale here get that mask fixed and hopping on got a little fun button out the back there little fun button look this guy's an all-action jiu-jitsu fighter and you know his last fight being at elevation in rio rancho fighting ray borg who came in overweight he didn't look like the same fighter as he was in his last two fights this is a guy that's all actually he likes to come forward he likes to throw big power punches and he's a very very explosive grappler he's got a good guard and i usually don't really speak to you know i don't think guys should be fighting from the back in the ufc when you're getting punches thrown at you but this guy has a very very dangerous guard looking forward to his scrap hi i'm megan anderson i'm fighting out of glory mma in fitness and i'm looking to shock the world tomorrow night talk about this earlier laura a little david and goliath but she's six feet tall uses her range really well nunes mentioned that many times this week that that's something she has to be prepared for 144 and a half the official wait for megan anderson so that is good news all of the title fights are on megan anderson makes weight and we are in good shape you also like thought when megan came from invicta that at some point she would find herself in this position fighting for the ufc championship it might not have happened as soon as most people anticipated but now she is on the cusp of one of the biggest nights of her entire fighting career and if she can get this done laura biggest upset in ufc history the fact is that most of the women that amanda nunes has faced are not true featherweights and she is it's just a different ball game here's a look at casey kenny he of course will be taking on dominic cruz the arizona native on the scale right now and this is a talented young up and coming yeah the nine-time usa national judo champion he's won multiple state titles in greco and freestyle in indiana but this is a guy that's fallen in love with throwing hands i mean we saw in his last two fights this guy is not just a grappler i mean he's throwing big combinations this fight with nathaniel wood fight of the night performance he looked great in fight island his last two wins were 20 days apart he's the guy that got a win and said hey guy i want to stay here and give me another fight dana white and dana white delivered fought nathaniel wood now he found himself in the biggest fight of his life against dominic cruz i mean this is this is a big moment in his career where he can really further himself not a lot of guys that are that are unranked get an opportunity against a guy like dominic cruz it's going to be exciting kennedy ends the chukwu in oscar oscar off the two fighters who have yet to weigh in they need a little more time so everybody else good to go but but these were 25 minutes and everybody was on the scale and on weight very impressive yeah that that much quicker than normal i mean 25 minutes for 28 fighters is very quick oh corey sandhagen joining us now corey what's up how much time do you actually give yourself time to enjoy you know that that flying knee went over frankie edgar a couple days a couple weeks i mean i guess it depends how you define enjoying myself i think i'm still enjoying myself from it uh but i think um you know i i spent some time in miami afterwards i went out there to help corner uh one of my teammates and then you know uh that was kind of it and then so i kind of been back in the gym since obviously it's not as competitive or whatever but yeah i'm i'm still enjoying you know kind of the attention that i got from that i guess you could say obviously you're gonna have a keen eye on this uh piotr young al-jamain sterling fight tonight uh thoughts on this one and do you have a preference as to who you'd want to face sterling again or john um either one is okay with me you know i'd really like to get one one over sterling again uh but you know yawn also i think jan's really seen as one of the best guys in the division two so i'd really like to face him um but yeah man that's gonna be a super exciting fight i'm really excited to watch that one it's gonna you know sterling's made no question about what he's going to try to do in that fight so i'm really excited to see if he can you know out grapple yawn take him down take his back and choke him out like he's really good at you know corey peter yohn obviously not afraid to trash talk a little bit whether it's on twitter or you know in his interviews and i just wanted to get your reaction he kind of you know downplayed that incredible win over frankie edgar said it wasn't that big a deal what's your reaction to that ah that's okay you know i i talk pretty poorly about the people that i'm most threatened by too so uh you know i i i can understand it you know he's the name that he keeps throwing out there is is of course tj dillashaw does that make you feel a little bit disrespected uh not so much disrespected i think it kind of just goes to show you know maybe a little bit of his character you know uh kind of letting someone come back after you know such a such a suspension like that um doesn't make a lot of sense to me but but you know that that's his way of doing things and that's completely okay with me i know that dana yesterday was talking about how uh they're trying to set up a number one contender spot with tj dillashaw that fight has been brought up to me also so um you know hopefully either that happens or we'll see how the title fight goes and see what the champ kind of want kinda is asking for after that uh you know i saw a little something on twitter mr corey sandhagen dana white had dana white had a conversation with brett akamoto and he says he's working on something for tj who who would does this fight involve you this fight with this potential fight that tj dillashaw's coming back from his reinstatement does this potentially involve you do you know any truth behind this tweet that came out from dana white uh yeah i do know some of the truth behind it yeah it has been brought up to me corey san hagen we were like talking about the winds and then boom into the sandman and you're just like on the screen right like boom into the sandman like corey hey corey saint hagen's just on the screen but let me ask you this i want to know about how quickly the perception changes because last summer corey we lost to al joe we were at an all-time low and then two fights as you entered into this conversation with us you are now right back into the title conversation are you surprised at how fast quick how fast things can change for you uh yeah i mean that's that's the name of the game man i mean you we all know we've been around the sport for a long time that's the name of the game uh i i think that i kind of had to take that l in order for me to move forward and and learn the things i needed to learn in order for me to be a world champ and uh i'm really glad that sterling you know got to do that for me unfortunately it really sucks to lose but you know without that loss i definitely wouldn't have knocked out marlon and frankie the way that i did in my last two so i learned from that uh and now i feel uh 100 percent prepared to my at at least with my knowledge of being you know the world champ next so uh i'm really excited to watch that fight and you know i have no i have no more negative feelings about that loss good well when you say that in order to be a world champion it sounded like yesterday when dana said tj dillashaw as you alluded to a little bit he said tj's gonna fight someone and then someone is going that someone versus tj will produce the number one contender sounds like you're the only guy that he could be speaking to don't take a genius i only went to oklahoma state i didn't go to harvard it doesn't take a genius to figure out that he's talking to cory's talking about corey sandag and you said you know a little about it but can you elaborate on that for us a little bit yeah yeah i guess if i'm allowed to just say it yeah the fight's been brought up to me and hopefully we're fighting pretty soon you know just to shoot it to you straight uh yeah i i hope that that's the case i i think that i'm definitely the guy right now um and i and i almost feel like uh you know um tj should be really grateful to to be fighting you know uh for a number one contender spot after something you know after his suspension you know um so you know i'm glad that it's me and uh i'm really excited for that fight and uh i'm really looking forward to it and there's another big bantamweight fight on the card corey sandhagen who do you got pegged to take the fight the main prelim casey kenny versus dominic the dominator crew somebody that a lot of people have said you have parallels in terms of your style who do you have in that fight in the casey kenny dominick cruz fight yeah that's a tough one man i'm not uh to be honest i'm not really sure uh i i think casey kenny is i don't know how the public views him very much but i think he's a he's a bit of a sleeper man like that dude is a very good fighter and uh he knows what he's doing he makes good decisions i think that he uh he's very well-rounded and i think that cruz kind of has his handfuls that that being said man it's dominic cruz he was a former champ he was maybe uh you know the goat of our division and uh i'm you know i'm really excited to watch those two fight if i had to put money on it i'd probably choose the former champ cruise well let's talk let's talk main event here and go up to uh to light heavyweight with uhovic and izzy um put on your analyst hat and kind of handicap this one for us what do you see here corey yeah i mean izzy's no dummy you know i think that he's definitely smart enough to know that uh you know blockovich is going to be bringing a lot of power and and you know that that's kind of the tail of the tape every single time in those bigger divisions is it's you know you you have israel who's the technical guy against the guy who's uh who's a really big hitter but i mean israel's fought some really big hitters i don't think he's fought big hitters on on the on the power level of blockovich but i think that uh israel is no dummy i think he's smart enough to to know how to stay elusive i think that he's probably come up with a a really good game plan with his camp and i think that he's he's gonna uh you know be able to take out the guy that's in a weight class that's 20 pounds heavier than him and i i think that he's gonna you know i know that he's the favorite but to me that would that would still be really shocking if you can take out a guy that's you know in a 20 pound weight class difference that's that's huge yeah already playing some mind games too he's telling us all week he's going to weigh in the low 190s and then comes in at 201. that but that's a massive jump from 185 to 205. let's talk about the ladies for a minute amanda nunes uh meegan anderson uh what do you think about this one yeah i mean you can't bet against nunez man you know you just can't bet against her i think that she's just too good she's she's she's just too good and there's really nothing else to say about that fight i think that nunez is just going to be too good unfortunately for for megan what about drew dober i know you're excited to see another team elevation guy perform just talk a little bit about his evolution especially these last three fights we've just really seen him grow yeah dover's uh you know what i can respect about dover the most is that uh he he well one he he always has a really good attitude when he comes into the gym but two he's just uh he's so capable of learning and he's so uh always enthusiastic to be to be in the gym and to be learning all the time so you know we're gonna see the best drew dober that we've ever seen like we like we do in every single fight because he's always getting better um and this is a huge fight this is one for drew where if he beats islam this is a really big deal you know islam has a very big following um i i think that he's probably the guy that most people are choosing to win and if dover can take him out i think that we have a really highly respected new 155er in a division that's already completely stacked you know corey let's go back a little bit to you when you addressed t.j dillashaw before and the champion you said it's very disrespectful that you would let a guy come in off of a suspension like that back into a high-level fight well if he fights you it's another high-level fight you're talking out of the left side while also spinning out of the right side of the map you know i'm saying so corey when you think about tj you're rewarding him because you're the guy that's on fire right now but when you say i'm going to fight him when how soon would you like to get this done because you want to try to stay in line with the champions right yep yep uh you know dc that's kind of the art of war a little bit right now you know i don't know if i have i don't know if i have enough of an argument being that i did lose to algerman just you know three three fights ago right now so i'm completely okay with it only in the name of i just don't want them giving tj some some cupcake you know that that's that the and they're feeding him some guy for uh for him to just go out and get beat you know like i i i so i i'm i'm willing to step up take that fight and and and take him out before they give him or or he chooses an easy fight you know so that was kind of that was that was the thinking there um but yeah i i do understand what you're saying 100 now i got to ask you corey i saw an interview from a long time ago where tj dillashaw's talking about how sometimes he gets frustrated when he's getting beat up by this kid corey sandhagen at the gym i gotta ask you is this something that you saw happening down the line like i know you guys are trained together you're not direct teammates there was some sparring i know you gave him some fits in the gym is this something in the back of your mind you thought someday down the road i'm gonna fight tj dillashaw uh no to be honest um i was in a different weight class at the time i was at 145 and i i kinda had planned that staying at 145 and then you know just my body started to change a little bit and uh 135 kind of started to be a little bit more in my head and then you know i made my debut at 145 and then i was like i i think that i could likely do 135 and then it was probably about when i when i decided to go down to 135 when i was like oh okay yeah this this could be a possibility in the future san hagen hair is looking good shirts popping beard's on point this dude's black iron fist you're talking about the other day essentially right now there's like an eight-man tournament going on with with the top contenders of middleweight who do you see coming out as being the next contender for you after tomorrow night um depends i mean uh two of my sons are fighting robert and costa fighting soon i think uh what's his name the italian and darren till's fighting um bombson and holland are fighting as well so yeah uh i don't know depends depends on i like to fight till i've already stated that and yeah he just has to win or keep doing some work and winning that's his responsibility though like you keep dropping him up you keep giving him the opportunity he's got that one here as well as well i was like that was the next fight in my head before i even thought about i actually think that you're doing it because you do it to trip them up a little bit because you put that egg don't lie you put that extra pressure on these that's what you do put that extra pressure on these dudes oh can of near old brother jared you're not jerry goes against beat right now i i'm actually i actually want to fight him even holland as well i hope he keeps winning because yeah he's the kind of guy i want to take out absolutely you win the title tomorrow night your strength of schedule is gonna get deep you're gonna have two divisions essentially that you're gonna have to maintain do you plan on defending the light heavyweight title as much as you've defended the middleweight title um i don't know if it's as much but i do plan on defending it um a couple times yeah like the way anderson did um you know going up to light heavyweight and just showcasing just showing off um i want to do that with his belt and then yeah i'll flex it for a little bit longer than this guy over here i'm dying to know about the mentality difference here because right you know you're you're the guy coming up in wait yes you are the king of the middleweight division but you're coming up to 205. is there a different type of pressure and maybe a little bit more freedom and you're a guy who loves to experiment you know this is in some ways an experiment can i weigh in at less than the weight and still hang you know with these light heavyweight guys is there less pressure in this fight um not necessarily no the pressure i put on myself is you know is is way more than any pressure i feel and i don't know i i even my coaches said like you might be the favorite and the bettingers i'm like really am i uh i don't really watch those kind of things because you've seen the last names all of you seen that right you know how jordan was talking about that you know he put he puts that that thing on himself like you know you i just feel like everyone not everyone but i still feel like i've got that chip and dip on my shoulder so i still feel that angst so uh yeah it's on me it's all on me i mean he's feeling the pressure trust me i smelt it yesterday he's feeling the pressure of the moment because i'm this middleweight skinny boy coming up to light heavyweight and he's going to have to represent for the two of fivers but you know everyone's thinking i'm going to walk through this guy which i am but i have to like put this pressure on myself so i hold myself accountable but at the same time i just have fun while i'm doing it because then that just makes it easy and i can be the best in the world how do you do that how do you how do you put that chip on your own shoulder when you're i mean you're at the top and you're you're going to potentially a new top i mean how do you do that to yourself in your head healthy ego uh cultured well healthy ego not over not over um saturated with it but like i just yeah i know i'm the but i know i ain't that's the a big fight coming up for you one of the title fights here but this is the first time for you that you're fighting as a mama yep how has that changed i i i'm watching you guys fly out and i'm like oh this is going to be a long flight with ray on the plane but it looked like it went pretty smoothly yeah she's she slept the whole ride he we were surprising but she was good she's just a good girl well we are blessing for sure you guys have her trained well already very very very good job very good job um all right with this fight with uh with megan the one thing that grabs you when you watch her fight is how tall she is and her range and i've heard you talk about that's something you have to you have to be ready for yeah i'm gonna join inside the cage but i also train with with my my partner his stall as well the same size i have the same game and i have a lot of experience with big girls you know cyborgs so cute so i have a lot experience by the big girls i know a joy is my game when i'm inside the cage so holly germain cyborg all those girls is bigger than me so and everything worked out pretty well well i have to ask about that beautiful little girl that we showed on the screen just a second ago and you know i know something of what it's like to become a mother and then try to return to fighting and my kudos to you for for doing it in such an incredible fashion uh what's the biggest change in terms of your mindset not just i know life changes in the sleep and all those things but you know we talk about cowboy with the baby and the motivation is that the same for you yeah definitely uh i've been saying all the time like i i was happy but like i'm like way happier than i i used to be so the love in my life now is like all over you know so make it easy for me go training you know know i'm gonna go home see my little girl he's like just bring the best of me as a mother as a as a fighter like i really feel i'm hungry to go training and then like have a lot of memories with my my little my little girl inside the cage in every you know fight week so i have i want a lot of memories with her and i want to stay here for a while we're taking a look at oscar oscar off uh weighing in right now 127 for askar askarov so he is over and he's going to have two hours to make it and this is not a not a fun position to to be in guys this is yeah i'm sure all you guys can relate it's terrible to be overweight but like the champ i was saying when she stepped on the scale right 145 while it still kind of sucks it's much easier than going down to 135 right how much easier is it for you when you're weighing at 145 the butterflies don't seem to be there as much as they are when you may 135 yeah definitely i feel like 145 is really my natural weight class so i definitely have a hard time especially now that i went up even well comfortable you know putting my muscles lifting heavy so i feel like to go to 1 35 my next one is going to be very hard but i have to go back home and then get in a diet i cannot sleep in my my way for 1 35 because my last one against your your mani i thought i'm not gonna make it yeah so i was like delusional and i thought i'm gonna faint but i made it and i went five rounds like i surprised you know was all mentally for sure strength in that fight and i always be able to handle five rounds we did just find out that ask her off not gonna try to make it again he's going to be a pound over uh for that fight but then if you just cut that that's crazy right because oscar off now has two hours to make the weight he's saying he's not going to try again coach just said no the weight's off you just said that in the last fight you were very nervous that you might not make the weight and you spoke to the toughness and mentality of getting down there but it needs planning right you have to get through tomorrow right you have to get through tomorrow and win this fight at 1 45 but it'll take planning to get back down there um yeah for sure how i mean defending two titles is crazy right i just talked about israel in his aura there's israel and assange and everybody else is orrin and there's a man the nunes is or walking past you how are you able to do that go up and down between weights and still be so successful yeah it's pretty hard but i like i'm like i want to do this so bad you see and i put in my mind i have to do you know i have to defend the 145 i cannot leave him the 135 jersey like the girls waiting for me i have to kill myself if i have to but they're gonna i'm gonna make it this way i'm gonna role when you're looking at this fight break it down for us what are you seeing coming up here with uh with megan and amanda i definitely megan she is a strong fighter she is a good um a striker and you know i watch her fight against holly holm and my question is how she improved in her grappling after that fight and um yeah knowing amanda's that she is like more um universal mma fighter i think it's gonna be uh very hard for megan in this fight and um my um so it's in this fight i have a monday's vineyard so you've had such great fights with amanda is that something that you would want to revisit in the near future uh you know i know it's uh probably it's gonna happen it's like no matter what sometime in the future right if everything i'm gonna go the same way is it going right now uh there is no gap doubts it it's gonna happen but right now in focus on 125 flyby division and i have my fight coming up um in like almost less than two months so i'm getting ready for my fight and you know fighting in my natural weight class 125 and it's so like feeling good for me because finally i can like do things in my own weight class and not thinking about someone who is like really bigger than me but definitely i think um in the future it's inevitable this uh this third fight even after the uh even more after the second point what we did with the monday and i know for sure i didn't lost it it's and everybody knows it well let's let's focus on the here and now you mentioned it it is official you're going to defend your title against jessica andraj ufc 261 on april 24th uh i know we're looking forward to that as are you what uh what are you doing to prepare for that one and what kind of challenge does andraj present i do the same things that i did for all my training camps for all my opponents like uh putting my shape back and even like after that road trip that we had we were 70 days driving the car like all this all around like different states california gulf of mexico we visit so many so much good places it's almost 10 000 miles withdrew all over the states it was so wonderful so recharging i gained all my energy back and now we are here in las vegas uh starting training camp so i will be in my best shape for april 21st it's for sure no doubt but there is no something uh different in my preparation it's gonna be all the same but um studying my opponent studying pure um like weak sides knowing your strong sides and consider this everything and i will do my preparation valentina jessica andraj is a very different fighter than you faced in the past she's much shorter than you are she has a very different style she's spotted a variety of different weight classes what is it about her game that that where do you think she poses you the biggest threat i i would just i want to say that i really like opponents who run towards me and want it like to hit that hard as they can i really like that one so it's going to be good sorry go ahead lauren go ahead alarm sorry no i was going to say you know where do you see yourself having the biggest advantage in that fight i mean is that you kind of touched on it there you know your ability to cut angles and and land on her as she's potentially charging in um you know um i i'm not seeing me like avoiding something in this fight avoiding clinch avoiding like grappling avoiding something like that no no you're welcome if you won't do this you you're very welcome we're gonna we're gonna have great fighting everywhere that's why uh my um what i think i'm gonna prepare myself in everything as i did um on my fight before and i really don't have problem to fight in the stand up i fight like wrestled with her go to the ground i really don't see any uh problem with any of this game that's why for me it doesn't matter where the fights go and you know i'm the uh kind of fighters that i'm not avoiding anything i just uh go with the flow because i can do like in every every uh like every aspect of the fight i will i i just will do all the best what i have to do for this fight and i know it's still like two months uh before the fight that's why i can't express a little bit more but closer for the fight i will close my energy in and feel focused on the fight and go straight for the victory valentina the reason you love people that come forward is because you're one of the best counter-strikers in the entire ufc so they walk right into the stuff that you're trying to set up now champ you have been with the same team you find solace and comfort in the team you're in vegas where there are so many teams around you what makes it so good and how are you guys continuing to get better and you're never changing anything um it's like i cannot say we are not changing anything we are like we do change we just bring better um like techniques in my game we bring better like uh when i have to have more stronger character my coach saying paddle saying every time no you have to continue or in the training for example when i feel like and i want to say oh i'm tired i cannot continue he said you you just cannot because the opponent that behind you they're gonna they're gonna do it hard that's why you have to go harder and we yes we definitely bring every time something new into my game but um i think the most important is surround that you surround yourself with the people who help you who are discover from you the best things and who inspired you that's why my coach my all my training partners here in las vegas and we have them like from different gyms from different clubs from um one fight team from andrada muay thai from hector vazquez bjj so oh they are helping me to prepare for my fight but of course definitely my coach bible fedor and my sister antonina they are like the the person who are like inspire me to keep forward and continue with success all right here's a look at glover to shara weighing in as a backup not going to be needed hopefully but 204 and a half for glover yeah it's not a bad it's not like you get you get paid you don't get to get punched yeah you eat a little cheese in your pocket yeah not a bad deal now about what's been going on with you outside of the octagon you move out here not too long ago in january there's a mini dock that that drops about your life and then and you're engaged is there anything else that we need to know about what's going on with you i'm a pretty decent chess player i just learned though i also just learned in january so i'm still working on a couple of kinks but um yeah i like to do a lot of things and learn a couple different languages spanish russian and uh i just like to try different things and of course real estate i have my real estate license as well man well-rounded is that a queen's gambit thing you getting into chess did you watch that oh yeah how good was that great great teacher unbelievable you didn't watch you should watch and i'm not getting paid to say that so i haven't watched it i'm sitting up here like what are these guys they're always studying fights dc and coaching kids that's what i do you know sometimes i gotta ask you you're a sarah longo staple and you've came out publicly and said even though you've moved to las vegas you are still a sarah longo guy but what has coming to las vegas and training at extreme couture under coach nick sick what has it done to already put more into your already you know very versatile game like what what it has been what have you benefited from moving out here i think the fresh look of different bodies getting a different look of different individuals guys you're not used to training with on a daily basis i think it gives you those fresh nerves all over again kind of like going into a fight you know because you don't know what's going to happen you don't know this training partner you don't know if they're going to be looking to kind of like take your head off what is that no sometimes yeah they were saying you have to lean back more but i'm like i don't think she did that she did it that made me look oh man it was bad i thought it was going to be the core strength i was like yeah i'm in shape but yeah it didn't work out that way that was crazy to see now joe let's get into the x's and those a little bit when you look at peorian right this is a guy that brings a lot of pressure seems to have good wrestling in defense how do you approach it differently than what he's seen now he lost one fight by getting taken down and submitted what do you see in the game that allows for you to go get to your spots early right because with corey sanhedrin it was early dry backpack how do you backpack this guy early in the fight i think the same way i've done it in the past i just keep the pressure keep the distance when i need to keep the distance and uh just being smart with the time uh distance management and i think i do a pretty good job of that uh he calls me a mouse i guess that means i'm elusive to catch and yeah i think he's gonna be a little frustrated swinging at air and uh i think that's just his way of trying to lure me into a a stand and brawl fist fight which is not what i do you know so if he hasn't done his homework to learn how to catch the mouse in this sense then i i really don't know what uh his game plan is but wrestling is going to be super super easy for me i think i mean i've done it with san hagen i've done with other guys in the past i think it's just a super natural thing for me you've wrestled a ton yeah yeah but do you think it's because it's not straight you're not just shooting straight double legs right it's very unorthodox and i think people aren't paying attention to that you think that's why because your takedowns put you right in position to go and chase submissions you don't just end up in full guard when you take people down you have a way of getting to your best positions yeah i think um for the most part i work a lot on that especially back home in long island i teach the mma wrestling classes there and the benefit of having me teach those classes is i get to learn a ton of uh stuff that i i want to work on from other fights i take notes i do stuff like my podcast every week when i'm breaking down fights the weekly scraps but when i'm doing that i'm i'm being an analyst i'm being a teacher so it's helping me to understand the situations better and when you teach more you learn more so that's that's one of the things i love about it and it's working on those transitions you get to take down and going to the back is one of my special gifts i think and i just have a way of seeing it feeling it and just going out there and just doing it well listen the build up to this fight has not been lacking in spice he's been doing his best to kind of trash talk you in english and yesterday man that stare down that was some intense stuff when you're standing there eye to eye with someone that you are going to fight for a championship fight what is that energy like not so much eye to eye i suppose yeah it's it's different you know when you get to see your opponent face to face you kind of see that feeling get that urge of what you're going to get when you guys step into that octagon because that's what you're going to feel you're going to feel that emotion you feel that tension in the air and that's what it's going to be when they glock that door it's going to just feel like it's just us doing this in there and then nobody else in the world matters you know so for that 25 minutes i got to make sure i'm on point i'm sharp and i'm focused and i'm ready i'm dialed in no mistakes i was watching a piece in lead up to this and a word really jumped out to me you said validation that sometimes you fight and you look for validation i mean this this is the ultimate form of validation right how do you use that to fuel you in a championship fight like this i've had a lot of ups and downs and i think with that being said uh the way i've grown up the way my parents have uh you know our interactions i think i've had a lot of um self-conscious issues growing up and you know i'm not afraid to say that but as you get older wrestling has helped me build my confidence as a man and uh fighting has done the same you know so the lessons i've learned from high school wrestling college wrestling coaching life lessons all those things friends family it's helped me to get to where i am today so that's my validation and to get to this point man i've worked extremely extremely hard to get here and people do not even understand like i started wrestling in 10th grade it's not like i've been doing this for a very long time so to get to this point in my career it's been nothing but uh phenomenal for me and i'm just super super happy super excited ecstatic to be in this situation this point and um i'm waiting to capitalize and uh make the most of this opportunity he speaks to he kind of glanced over that started wrestling in 10th grade yeah guys that's nothing to glance over we are i started at nine years old it's late a lot of kids start at five and six so to start as a 15 year old get to where you are and develop those skills it's fantastic and almost unheard of to reach that level yeah um so don't just skim over that as if it's a little fact it's a real big deal look the closer the fight the lesser you talk big mouth right the lead the you talk less this is from peoria he's saying that you talk less as you're getting closer why why the animosity between you and peorian why is this not one of those buildups where it's based in respect why do you feel the video of him calling the guy algo back in the day even i even i messaged him like yo not a good look champ right why is it not based in respect why the bad blood between you two i really don't know i i don't know if uh it's just banter and i i think for me i i like the banter i think it gives us more to there's more at stake for the fight you know you kind of got to eat your words you know so i think that's the thing that i love about this matchup between the two of us we're both willing to go out there and put that on the line and uh really let the fans see who can back it up you know i made a post today i don't think the closer the fight got the less i stopped talking he was the guy who came to the ufc pi pressed me while i'm getting worked on to to tell me i'm afraid to fight him in russia and i'm like confused what he's talking about i was like dude listen i'm ranked higher than you i'm gonna tell you where we fight but then obviously the rank has changed he got to he got to skip over us to fight for the belt and uh he became the champ and now i'm fighting him where you know we're supposed to fight and this is the opportunity i think there is a respect factor there to some degree i think he respects me and my skills i respect him and his skills but at the end of the day man we're going in there to hurt each other i gotta take what's his and know what to get what's mine i i love how you have been able to seemingly be uncomfortable while being comfortable and that's isiata he's 20-0 and the one thing about streaks is you don't want to really get out ahead of them because you can't cash multiple tickets if the streak ends you're going to cash that one but when the streak continues you could cash multiple tickets and here we have some signals seven years younger reach advantage height advantage there's something to like about izzy i think so definitely a special fighter but there's a lot of unknowns to me here right so at the price over 200 it's tough to bet izzy i mean we're looking at the other side of it blhovich has been on a roll extreme power in his hands we know that he's going to be stronger he's going to be bigger it's tough to lay that kind of chalk against a fighter that has that much power on the other side of it all right four fight win streak for jan velhov she's been an underdog in three of those speaking of laying chalk amanda nunes right she's defending her featherweight title or attempting to against megan anderson she's sitting at about a ten to one favorite around minus one thousand nick how do you how do you handle this fight it's tough you i think you got to leave it alone it's tough to bet you're not going to lay that kind of chalk on nunes even though she's the goat she's one of the greatest of all times we know that but anderson on the other side of it has a lot of power she's big she's long she's strong and i don't think there's any value either way nunez is just simply the better fighter so i think you stay away from this one i agree with nick nunes is the better fighter better everywhere how much better we say she's a heavy favor but what does the line mean what does minus a thousand mean what does -1250 mean it means she has to win 91 percent of the time 93 percent of the time just to break even so where's your profit margin don't you need at least a five seven percent margin so what are you telling me nunes wins this fight one hundred percent of the time there's a zero chance for megan anderson to win i don't think that's the case again i think it's an easy fight to bet it's dog or leave it alone yeah i kind of disagree though i think the blueprint's kind of been laid out already right we've seen anderson struggle at times on the ground and nunes is not a dump fighter she has good wrestling she has good submission game as well she's got to look to take this flight to the floor so that's my caution there and once she's on the floor she can be very dominant so i'm going to pause and kind of reconsider that pyotr john's taking on al jamaine sterling with the bantamweight title on the line this one is right at about a coin flip it doesn't happen often with a ufc belt on the line usually we have a clear favorite right now we don't gianni your thoughts on this matchup we had a clear favorite in that change perception is really on the side of sterling with that recency bias coming off the win more importantly this fight has been rescheduled so we already had a betting line we saw sharp money like the sterling side as an underdog no longer the case we're now looking at coin flip either way and i think that's why there's some value now on the champ being disrespected absolutely we say it time and time again recency bias is a thing the dominant performance that sterling had over sand hanging if san diego gets a ton of respect we know how good this guy is he's definitely the number one contender right now in the bantamweight division and we saw sterling just roll right through him submit him fast so a lot of people jumped on board and gobbled up that plus money but i think you're underestimating john on the other side of it he's a very complete fighter he's got dynamite in his hands and he pushes a high pace this could be a very tough fight for sterling here 10 fight win streak for pyotr yan he's yet to lose in the ufc five fight win streak on the other side for al jamaine sterling starting the pay-per-view top five light heavyweight contenders alexander rockets taking on thiago santos nick who do you have your eye on in this yeah i'll tell you what speaking of underrated even though you gotta lay a little bit of chalk i think rockets should be a bigger favorite in this spot i understand the love for thiago santos he's gonna be a public dog here in this spot but i think rockets is a future champion he's got it all he's got great striking he's champ champ but our club may just welcome a new member that's if israel assanian the last style bender can defeat yan behold and claim the ufc light heavyweight title an edisonia victory would put him in the history books alongside mcgregor cejudo nunes and of course me dc and come on who wouldn't want to be associated with that group of legends dominic cruz kind enough to join us on set big fight coming up against uh casey kenny first uh non-title bout for you since 2014 so kind of swimming in some different waters uh for you however you have been sparring a lot i know that's still a big important part of your training more so than some other guys why is that i don't know i think everybody's different right i mean some people don't you hear guys say like i try not to spar i try not to get those rounds um i grew up wrestling and like one of the consistent things you hear in wrestling is you need more mat time mat time that time right dc yeah even when you're wrestling with like ncaa wrestlers and stuff like if they don't get as many matches as some of the guys who do early they're like yeah i just need more matches i kind of feel the same way with fighting i just need those rounds and training to really get myself locked in on timing and even durability and range and everything else and i've gotten that your style has kind of become synonymous with you know your your brand almost and uh it's it's a very unique style we always talk about it when you fight but casey kind of said you know it's really not that unique to me to me it was unique five or ten years ago but you're someone who studies the game you know you're you're calling these fights what do you make of that comment yeah i mean let's let's look at casey kenny and think of a lot of the things that he said that are intelligent [Laughter] oh that's the dominant cruise that's the cruise i know let's just be honest he hasn't said the most intelligent things we don't even need to get into it so with that being said that's one that the other half of it is he's a southpaw don't forget that so if if he actually did his homework he'll realize i've i haven't faced a lot of southpaws so while i might not have that different of a style to him how different am i going to be towards the south paw which i haven't really fought and he has no film on me fighting southpaw yeah so he's a completely different stance i've moved completely different against southpaws than i do against conventional fighters so again that proves it's not so intelligent it's a completely different fight here just processing things at a different rate than most of the guys that you're fighting champ listen to me you have fought and beaten some of the best fighters this division's ever seen what about this style matchup specifically got you excited and what do you think you can exploit in casey kenny's game to allow you to come back and fight in this spot and have as impressive a performance as you had the last time you fought to get misagay in this spot well the key is to not hold a expectation to just go in there and be be like in that state of flow where you're not really in the past you're not in the future you're just in that moment and let happen whatever's gonna happen don't resist it if it goes three rounds it goes three rounds if it's 30 seconds god willing you know let's do it 30 seconds but really it's just being present and letting the fight play out with casey kenney he's very durable and he he's not as mobile as some of the guys that i've fought but he he relies a lot on his power he relies a lot on his on his strength and so to find a way to uh you know work around that and use that to my advantage is going to be key and making sure to just not stay in his line of fire because when when he's moving forward and when he's when he's able to get his hands on you he feels very confident and so the key is to really just make that um make that not an option for him you know you talk a lot about what holes you're going to exploit you talk a lot about your training and the sparring everybody knows what you're good at you've been around you've been in the game for so long it's been all eyes on you for over a decade but what are you doing now to make put some new wrinkles into your game this game that this guy says he knows so much about what things are you doing new in your training what changes are you making well you know if you really look at anybody what really changes you know i mean what really changes about each fighter uh each guy what what's changed about khabib nurmagomedov what's changed about conor mcgregor uh what's changed about about you mike you're going to take people down you're going to choke them what's changed about you dc you're good in the clinch uh you got good takedowns you got that high c that you flip people over the head you got sick boxing like you can look at each one of our fights casey kenny he hasn't changed really he's the same guy you make minor adjustments what i would say changes is confidence that's the main thing that changes in these fights and i would say he's on a three-fight winning streak so his confidence is high i've lost my two title fights the highest level of fighters on planet earth so i kind of take that into account and give myself like okay dom let's be realistic with yourself here you're facing some of the best guys on the planet and um you know the last two fights you know with with cody i would say i i lost that fight uh two rounds to three he beat me three eight i i won two so he won that decision but it was still a very competitive matchup yes um with henry you know i was just getting warmed up there's a second left in the clock and the idiot stopped it you know so i i wanted more to do with that and that kind of drove me like i feel like i didn't get it all out in that fight i knew there was more to to get out so the confidence thing is really what changes in each fight i think and it's time to go in there and just you know do do me be in the moment and just let it let it happen the way it's going to happen it's it really doesn't matter how it happens it just get it done and win get the win winning solves everything mike it's been a long windy road for us me and you dominick cruz i've been against this guy and it's good to be with you now man i'm looking forward to seeing your friends when you get to a level the changes are so small right like so even though you go in there as essentially the same type of fighter you're better but the changes just aren't like this when you're 22 and 23 you go from here to here to here to here then when you become the man and you become who you are it's like this small slight changes but you do recognize the difference in your approach and how much better you get yeah and i think that you know what you guys are saying about casey kenny saying there's not much that's changed again i gotta i gotta bring it like you gotta he's gotta really logically look at the stance switch as a real thing in my opinion i know i have um he's faced more conventional fighters than i've faced southpaws but i did bring in a really good so close and this guy should be the champion not only did people believe that but dominic reyes believed that jan beholves put him out this dude is impressive man he really is all right there is uh there's a little controversy um i listened to dc's podcast this week and he talked about he said if you're not cheating you're not trying and i'm immediately concerned and i wanted to go back and look
