Adam Morris 28 a game he'll give you 30 easily you make a mat Lenny he may give you 40 he's done that a couple of times this year well he's the guy with the Prince Valiant haircut and via Atilla the Hun competitiveness no question about it and you bring out the best in Adam you see al a good sakkath defconn's lit by the Bruins here's farmer coming off an 18-point game and there went over Alabama he hit a career-high five optimum on his first shot was just though nervousness get the willies out he does a lot quicker than being Helen would like to see in his options Morrison curling down volantis teardrop and he gets his a great skill I kid always looks for the three that he's more than willing to touch the mid-range shot dry vo with the rebound there comes the Zags ride the [Applause] UCLA the other way as I meant to 29 and 642 pour the pac-10 they've gone the regular season in the conference tournament oh brother [Applause] a multi-layered rebounder led to pac-10 and offensive rebounding about three ago all their freshman from camera Farmar Babu [Music] that's a fire he picks up his first let's take a look at the keys to the game but for Gonzaga you've got to embrace diversity you got to look to others as Morrison's not on early and of course UCLA you got a body up that's been but then how in shade mark turned off the perimeter Denine Morrison and also it has to deny the milquetoast Morrison posted he could do a little bit of both and he traveled well you see right away Morrison the center of attention down low he gets double and he tried to fight his way through the double-team in travel the zags and Bruins have met one time December of 1999 Gonzaga winning the game 59 to 43 and a whistle on the baseline foul coming up against good zaga because this is obviously a battle of defense versus offense you know UCLA : opponents on the 40% heal those human last two opponents as it's about 51 points a game in this tournament flip side with us Gonzaga shooting 48 percent from the field I was 84 points for this we go against UCLA Ryan Hollins picks up this was the senior 7 footer defensively for the Bruins well again they've had a terrific month for only 54 points per game allowed and 80 points to one team this year that was Memphis [Applause] coming off the 15-point shannan reeve on James and their second round win over Indiana Batista picked up his first foul [Applause] cool out Dylan Cespedes [Applause] Koston and there's a defense again Adam Morrison talk will file as he held Bozeman in the backcourt pretty good defense looked like was a turnover but when the official calls and Morrison owns up to her right away she just said yeah you're right kid has been compared to Larry Bird Pistol Pete Maravich he says I have none of those guys I'm a divorcee and you know what I like that because Russell's comparisons was so unfair it's got a unique style of his own [Applause] who the Washington quick to the point guard inside Batista the intended receiver Malik Rosa not about Gonzaga with three turnovers to start well again you talk about jitters the Gonzaga seem to be the one right - you've not exactly set it on fire meaning - nothing - ECLAC she's getting better hooks on Bob Luce off the mark the fire coming up Ryan and he will go to the line so UCLA in the first two rounds they defeated Belmont and then Alabama tough game against the Prince attack 62 to 59 the score varm are leading the way coach Allen what a coach four years at Pittsburgh five years at Northern Arizona and he's taken three different schools to the NCAA tournament he's the pac-10 coach of the year and you see them a lot covering biggest games in the past his system is a system that really strives on defense can't go cheap bugs and if your perimeter guy you can't shoot a fool you can't break the man that simply likes his people diversity' lacks the ability to stretch the floor for more importantly be able to stop Fudo Boris it's week three Wow coming up Allen picks up the ball a second and a sub quickly minigame david Pendergrass [Applause] well again we talked about embracing diversity for Gonzaga Sean Malin one of those guys when lorrison was going on 15 points ten rebounds against in the enemy early foul trouble could new large for Gonzaga wha-wha-what got for UCLA right with the tender wrist he says it's okay he's got it taped up that left wrist guarded by Altidore Cespedes to rip ugly the defender inside one at the pass Sidorov jumpshot no the teeth to get old winter grass comes up with the rebound rightio the three-count [Applause] [Music] [Applause] we going to take a look right here to defense from Afflalo on Morrison grabbing the Jersey Jersey picks up the foul his first Aaron a sophomore from coptic california backed in first team after 216 a game but he's got plenty tonight they want him to guard adam Morrissey and talking to some of the UCLA people they don't plan on double teaming Morrison they may double team batista will a double-team Morrison in the post maybe it's the guys are gonna double-team everybody in the coach that was going down a senior from Seattle and again getting back to a flower playing defense on Morrison as you see Gonzaga in kind of a 131 zone the flower think he's gonna golf morrison's guys stay away from the cheap you found Robin of God's Jersey getting handcuffed in New Jersey but come back to haunt you down and out of here let's throw it away dissolve cause do UCLA some problems in their second round game against but they eventually figured it out 15:39 to play and be first at the jackal intercept the to lead over UCLA Gus Johnson along with when el borde backdoor coming up against the Bruins are all night who has also been plagued with a high fever 102 temperature earlier this week goes to the line foul called on wolves like a wall of freshmen who shot well just in the game nice job out at a time out to pick on CBS Sportsline is your destination tournament coverage get bracket updates video highlights and expert analysis for each tournament game at cbssportsline.com [Applause] and if ever there was a time where defense makes a difference it's now for UCLA Oh for six from the field not able to get their offense on track they've got a limit gonzaga until they do get some offense going the winner of this game to move on to take off Memphis who defeated Bradley in our first game of the night there's the zone now by the Zags jump shot inside off the mark the Derek Allison a freshman Gonzaga night rising fire tracks down his own rebound [Applause] more rightio right hold on pretty good balance his son was on the line and the official right on top is song trying to skip a little bit more long pass [Music] mark few saying hey you got pushed you couldn't see that Farmar lorenzo bata has checked in for UCLA gonzaga back in the man-to-man now changing defenses this is a young UCLA team and they seem to be having some trouble of longest tip bike ride vo that's why no backcourt violation I pick and roll Farmar keeps it alive one glute a to the basket way off the mark gets his own rebound and draws the foul so a look at the for number one seeds dupe the overall number one seed going down this evening to LSU congratulations to the Bayou Bengals Connecticut take on Washington norm against BC and Memphis defeating Bradley first free-throw good JJ reddick 3 of 18 from the field tonight for Duke but he ends one of the great careers in ACC history all-time leading scorer [Applause] all-time leading three-point field goal maker nationally [Applause] boom ba boom J makes it a nine for game more sit in the front Cortese dictation offensively so far two points he's taken two shots and he's been pounded weand offenders right there Afflalo to see that all evening-night rejected by Maura lorenzo mata sophomore from Huntington Park California comes over nicely to help now he was up high enough to be able to control that ball which he won't be able to do is knock that ball back into play so your team has a chance to get it instead allowing gonzaga Dupree inbound it now Bozeman and Morrison a lecture from the officials Moe's been very physical with Morrison's start the game [Applause] and file call the little screen [Applause] Clarkson Washington [Applause] he picks up his second and again UCLA having a lot of difficulty over eight [Music] point scored from the free-throw line when you have in that kind of situation you look for a post up you look for Drive try to get to the basket and another fall coming up against the Zags that's hike felt again [Applause] all for his third they'll have to come out of the game Batista quickly off the bench and everybody talks about Adam Morrison but really it's JP Batista who is kind of like the engine that makes this zach team run well it's the same thing like with Duke when Sheldon Williams the guy who can give you 19 points nine rebounds a game shooting almost 60% from the field and you can count on it night after night Marc Hugh says that's an important piece of the puzzle Madame aching the first Tuesday on CBS their missions are classified but that hasn't stopped the unit from being discovered by over 31 million viewers catch a new episode Tuesday on CBS you know you talk about both Morrison and retic obviously terrific players player to you flight Sheldon Williams with J Steve Bautista you know wouldn't J be able to put up the same numbers that they had madam foul called inside Pendergraft getting to the basket with the ball fake Afflalo flopping and Afflalo picks up the second no field goals for the Bruins and that's good news somebody there in the ball game you know right now it's four-point deficit now make it five [Applause] you know you eight shots no field goals and he's still within striking distance [Music] boy should head ago onto the bench second free throw good Zach's deep and 11 quietly those coaches look at an arrest their leading scorer as a flower goes to the benches groans and mark few decide to bring out a marsuit sit him down Flores back door Wolcott all to high by far more Bargo is come in now along with rival in the backcourt ravio Pendergraft thanks it in well how about rival again know how to lead the jaga [Music] back after this [Music] [Applause] UCLA off to a rough start Pargo [Applause] [Music] uCLA is only for 8 from the field and and the Bruins have turned it over five times maybe six let's see [Applause] right now the Zags just overwhelming the Bruins and as you mentioned land this UCLA team is very young absolutely this is experience taken over the intensity necessary to play at this level of sweet 16 level Gonzaga has it and UCLA doesn't this is the fourth sweet 16 for Gonzaga they advance to the Elite Eight in 1999 of beating Florida losing to the eventual national champion Huskies from UConn and to go back again to the lack of experience on defense particularly everything you say Lance doing is uncharacteristic you take a look 50 percent feel though six straight games in the number-one team in field goal percentage in the pac-10 obviously today the shooting of bagel but again uncharacteristic on the defensive end a lot of reaching you're not playing position defense and again it comes back to not understanding the intensity level the level of getting back to fundamentals that you need at this sweet 16 look Ivo on more free fall coming he gets it Zacks take a 75 lead currently on an atoll drug back into that zone and again the UCLA your old for eight from the field you've definitely thinkin about it and another turnover by the Bruins and a foul ball UCLA shaky to start this game you'd be in time shaky [Applause] it's I think they're embarrassed they should be at this point in time not only are they not able to score they're not even able to hold on to the ball I'll call dog boomba boot day and that will sent Pendergraft to the line [Music] [Applause] [Music] this is the front end of the one and one let's see if the bullets can settle down here and attack this zone Zaka playing a what do to wings a sweet spot right there under the free-throw line the balls at the top got a bit of Flash people in there there you go mark few saw something in UCLA second round game blocking foul called on Pendergraft Alabama with only seven scholarship players forced to play a zone and UCLA struggle [Applause] 17:5 Gonzaga with elite 1150 to play in the first half the two versus the three the winner to move on to take on Memphis who defeated Bradley a 13 coach Howland trying to figure out how to get his guys settled down and also how to figure out this Gonzaga defense well first of all I think that until they figure out the defense of Gonzaga they certainly can create some offense off of their defense as I mentioned before uncharacteristically going away from fundamental sound defense you know we talked about UCLA how tough they were offensively but they're reaching as I said not getting good position you know not even rebounding the ball the way that they're capable of rebounding and it just comes down to guys just taking it upon themselves you forget about the score forget about their wolves on the offensive end and dig in and play D the rest 17-7 Morrison back in the game Pendergraft Batista cargo and ravio Morrison calling force knocked away by Bozeman nicely done as much better defense right there [Applause] 11:34 to play first half in zaga 17-7 inside and a whistle Wow coming up this will go against Mata this verse and so far the Bruins two top scorers are struggling well they certainly are obviously you see them zero points for both and quite honestly nobody's doing anything from the offensive end and seven turnovers again this is a this is a team that's just had difficulty in playing their brand of basketball it came in jittery Gonzaga seized upon that utilizing their experience their intensity and UCLA has not been able to match the intensity limbaugh boot day back into the game t stuff one more bro that's the second Farmar the backcourt three-quarter court pressure by Gonzaga the electroweak exacta continues to change the defense they've got a scared confuse team out here right now that hasn't found the answer and there it is at least one they are now one of nine Afflalo when struggle and the first apt against Alabama did get his first field goal until the 1355 mark of the second half Batista off the mark on la luce with the rebound here comes far more in transition fires a three and now we've got a ball game it's amazing how that becomes contagious somebody puts it in the basket now everybody gets the MEAC for UCLA they and they play a little harder defense Morris lost it not got about to stay right here and you notice with the main field ball to saw the defensive intensity picks up that's the sign of a young team they need somebody to lead them they need somebody to lead them through actions and example and once that gets started everybody is able to rise to the challenge and play up to their potential their Collison Jackson for Apollo Bozeman still chasing Adam Morrison Morrissey's double-team Batista Ravi Oh kickball with the shot clock at 14 [Applause] well again UCLA making sure that Adam Morrison picks up the dribble gives it away to someone else taking the ball out of his hands nice job on the double-team and also on the cover after he gave it up Morrison coming off a 14 point game against Indiana hits the water on the baseline and he has four points that's something new to his arsenal you don't see that often I haven't seen it often throughout this year and that's what I mean but he can score any place on the floor he's made an adjustment and it works for him Bozeman weaving his way [Music] Farmar [Applause] Tolleson likes it in the corner Boombah booty with the rebound and a foul called on night and this will send lucre shard to the line I tell you what night if he's gonna guard Mammootty the rest of this demon he's gonna have his hands full cooking on the offensive glass never stops moving never stops battling and particularly on the weak side glass you've got to block him out and lock him Knight tried to hold him by grabbing his new jersey and guys part with [Music] they from Cameroon has been basketball for five years misses the streets the Romagna bears just can't hold on rightio to the bucket Afflalo couldn't hold on Batista with the rebound and he's fouled we've all seen Tiger Woods play golf but seeing him at play off the course is something you'll find only on 60 minutes Sunday [Applause] called on mater his second JP Batista is nicknamed big papa not Big Papi like some guy in Boston but big papa he's from Brazil coming off a 20 and 9 rebounds Indiana [Applause] did a nice job on Marco Killingsworth holding them to only 12 points [Applause] 22:12 zags but one of the things that help hold comes off the talk tremendous pressure at Batista places on people who guard the other end of the floor that's one of the best ways is shut down a good offensive player make him play defense [Applause] spinning inside got it up off the heel he's making that shot harder than it needs to be a flower all he had to do once he made the first move just a quick elevation and she comes open nine to three ravioli that stick back deceit enough as he takes a look at the clock bribe yo with seven 859 to play zags are rolling thus Johnson along with the big man Len Elmore exactly three leading UCLA a to the winner to take long Memphis who defeated Bradley after getting great performances by Rodney Carney the all-america farmers and farm are off the mark Ravi o on the frontcourt lets it slide quick shot by Ravi open again you got a 12-point lead you can to take a few chances like that rayvon inside in a file coming up ryan hollins out of job near high school we'll go to the line he's a senior and a look at the game summary well look at the field goal percentage that pretty much tells the story for UCLA again turnovers and inability to put the ball in the basket gonzaga veteran team has been able to capitalize on the opportunities they've been given by UCLA [Applause] and sucks coming in wall hits the bench along with Goomba bootay Bozeman alfred aboya a freshman also from cameroon come into the game or UCLA second free throw goes down 831 to play for his staff 2414 zags with the loot but even though they're down by 10 you see some signs of life she offensive rebound Senor Batista goes backdoor nice cut than recognition take a look right there sets the screen that's the best way to get open screen and then move and obviously Batista said keep on looking for me baby the bar said the decoy as he popped out on the wing big papa goes to the lines first team all West Coast Conference 15 double doubles this season 19 in its career adds the free throw a 21 to play 27:14 west coast bragging rights on the line and I UCLA at Gonzaga largest lead of the game for the Zags Bozeman a three baby dick Collins rebounded side Pendergraft comes up with the airport even close to good position by Ryan ha they're gotta fight for position boys that hi rker Bozeman with the world let's get deep the Hansa Afflalo all the break you know you talk about Gonzaga this is a team that's not a great defensive team Nepal to shoot 43% on average 35 percent from beyond the arc outscored you they averaged 80 points a game Morris it down away to keep them in any game keep it closer Marcy because I've relaxed barbar almost threw it away gets it again I need to get into this ballgame in it right now seems like he's having a hard time penetrating his own and the corner Bozeman no loose Morrison with the rebound if Lalo has got offensive guys with far more [Applause] [Music] any pressure on the Gonzaga defense weathers manner zone the teams to post it up bumping and grinding jump or China baby right-hand hook hard to stop I'll fall by the ruins 6:40 to develop zags up in let's take a look at the Stars this evening well obviously jp4 teesta and Adam Morrison getting involved after the rest of her team's 14 of the 31 points for Gonzaga but Farmar and a flower neither one of them really involved you know seven points but they should be the bulk of this offense for this team for UCLA and really this is a coach's nightmare right here if you've been Hal you work on this you watch film you've had a chance to really prepare for Gonzaga you think your team is ready then they come out and they can't put the ball in the basket they can't play defense the way you'd like them to play the way you're accustomed to them playing he's really out of the coaches control well tennis at top 12 or either freshmen or sophomores Marmara sophomore inside Hollins pull-up jump shot in he's had a very solid for his staff he's a senior has six points 31 18 and on the other side of that nightmare though is that you want your team to have character so far UCLA continued to fight [Applause] [Music] Adam Morrison starting to warm up 33:18 Gonzaga Morrison today points he's the nation's leading scorers 28 a game Farmar a three loose ball picked up Fargo just not good shots by farmer gotta focus on penetration and Fargo golf or carrying the basketball now remember the winner of this game will take on the talented Memphis Tigers who defeated Bradley 3318 SAG's with the lead back after this Adam Morrison is not only the nation's leading scorer all-america and potentially the College Player of the Year he is also a diabetic and this is our Southwest Airlines sideline report and frequently Morrison during games during timeouts not only has to test his blood sugar but also has to take insulin shots somehow he manages to still play as hard as he plays game in and game zags with the 33:18 lead the far more out of the game obviously looking for Collison a little more penetration looking to get it maybe some inside out opportunities a flaw let's fly there can't commit now Malan back in the game after picking up two quick vows almost travel and it's wrap up that's a good call [Applause] he wore Spreadshirt in your day not me no chance of him mark few the Westcott's West Coast Conference Coach of the Year these Zags had been ranked as high as four to this season [Music] [Applause] backdoor nicely done that's what they need to do focus more and penetrating getting into the heart of the Gonzaga defense Albert aboya the freshman with his first basket of the game minutiae late can always get that three-point shot the zone is packed in you can always get a quick three Morrison hard down the lane how about that they gave up on the bay Marcin never did and stop the penetration or is it at 14 against Indiana a feeble he said it didn't bother because they want the wall games he has ten on five of seven shooting Collison 8 to shoot steps back [Applause] gets down the lane bat it out and track down by Morrissey now Carlos is not the guy that he died out into six points a game in the shot pop goes down you gotta break down the Defense we want far more into that but far Mars just maybe he's sitting on the bench getting some perspective and seeing what's available out there actually is about to check in again now to door Cespedes winter grab 12-footer now an offensive rebound fight hard the baseline aboya and a whistle jump ball the ball possession arrow and the paper of the sign back to Oakland back to this [Music] Gonzaga leaves by 15 and the story is really Brick City UCLA's inability to put the ball in the basket they've gotten some good shots others they force and quite honestly others they kind of shied away from not attacking the rim then you see the shooting percentage right there UCLA just terrible from beyond the arc the thing that's keeping them in this game if you can call 15 down in the game is it free throws Jordan Farmar is 1 of 5 from the field a lot of his shots coming from behind the three-point line at Morrison banks one down and look at the intensity madam Morrison well it's not only the intensity but look I mean it is a back door situation Marcin going away from the ball and coming back I mean that's pretty simple fundamentally boazlin has following them everywhere and unfortunately not playing fundamentally sound defense which means that marcin's gone away from the ball why are you giving up that position underneath the basket you shall they just totally taken out of their game or now with has five 40-point games this year 14 30 point games his career-high 44 against Loyola Marymount zags a perfect 14 and Oh in the West Coast cut loose you know as well as the Jag is executing if you're a UCLA fan you know your team is better than this day can't lay it down the revonnah batista this Gonzaga team is taking on all comers this year the three losses to Memphis Washington and Connecticut well yeah and some of the point-blank misses for UCLA this would be a much different ballgame put some of those shots down none of the defense in the stage Dave made more sit fadeaway jump shot no Rumbaugh bûche with the rebar so here's us the mistakes has made unpardonable getting inside as it stripped out of his hands yes 211 and a file coming up Mota with great position [Applause] take a look at the losses this season for the Bulldogs Connecticut Morrison was 18 Washington Morrison with 43 and Memphis at Memphis Morrison with 34 the Connecticut and Memphis game blanket thrown on Morrison in the second half but that's pretty good two out of three losses either to number one seeds see why critics say the new adventures of old Christine is laugh-out-loud funny don't miss Julia louis-dreyfus in TVs number one new comedy Monday on CBS America's number one network lorenzo mata at the free throw line that's the second ryan hollins checks back in he replaces model so it's farmer Holland's Afflalo boomba muche and Bozeman Fargo from Chicago bringing it up does a nice job is to backup point guard ears big papa inside jump look I Batista to Samoas how to use that window gets the ball in that Square from any angle so Batista has 10 Morrison 12 Ivo seven revealed I've explored unable to save it great hustle though where Ivo Adam Morrison with 12 points you see where the intensity there and here the guile has really overmatched UCLA they gave up on him on that baseline drive and this intentionally level force him to continue on instead of falling out of bounds off balance and then he just totally fooled Bozeman by running away from the basket and then back to the ball those bent bar bar another three anybody hit one his second three point viewable he is now two four six and so far more much better shot inside out Fargo the kick for suit [Applause] horst it up crap fix it up we will ring it up xanga love the 42:25 lead pharma filed heart and there you go that's what I went saying if he instead of focusing on shooting threes early in the game then you start putting pressure on the defense you'd have much more success I mentioned before Gonzaga good defensive team not a great one you can get opportunities if you penetrate and that's what a point guard has to do if you have a difficulty score you've got to break down the Defense [Applause] subs coming in the game so many great point guards of travel through UCL a wallet a zoo Gail Goodrich was Gail Goodrich considered a point guard Lenny goody was a shooter there's a spark tremendous score attack the Lakers lost to Tyus Edney Roy Hamilton's rockin a lot of violence by right vo farm are trying to pick up on where some of those men left off [Applause] [Music] UCLA those struggling at this one 42:27 go child and trying to find the right combination Morrison heads to the bench [Applause] very important possession his last possessions second differential they've got to go out they can execute it they can score down here they have something fear [Applause] in that on a four-second differential between the game clock on the shot clock Farmar can turn the corner Marvel staying right with it now farm are down the lane lost it from la beauté there though with the loose change two seconds Margo lets it fly that is the end of the first half Morrison with 12 leti still with ten will get you to Greg Gumbel particular at the half after this message and a word from your local station you're watching CBS horns on our 25th throw to the Bible Bowl [Music] but you say like starting to get the field as they cut this lead starting to get the feel for a penetration against this zone putting pressure on it and then moving the ball off to the penetrates getting some open sheet tabla Lobos which Pharma jinba ittai and Hollins on the court for the Bruins to start the second half and a foul ball against the Zags this will go against mallet and it's his third that will send Luke Rashard humble J to the line his young man as we mentioned is from Cameroon he grew up a big soccer fan Cameroon one of the teams it always has a chance to compete in the World Cup the applicant League is a chief of a tribe hit camera goes around as humberto USA Today and checks to make sure things working properly in the tribe misspoke got bailed out that time by Hollins and again that last possession resulted in the foul was all about getting the ball inside against his own involved with dribble penetration or off the bat Farmar long losing the handle he's tied up and Gonzaga will get it again I mentioned in the first half Jordan Farmar has to get into the game he knows that he's kind of holding his head down a little bit can't feel sorry for yourself right now your team needs you and you just walked her if that list is causing them some problems [Applause] here comes farm barter the bucket lays it up an inch there you go stop feeling sorry for yourself and get out there and play Jordan Farmar very talented young man you play through two tough nights Gonzaga has led by as many as 17 madam mores in the all-america with 12 in the first half ravio cut off rejected by Holland and he claimed it Bill Russell style a fall out of the bucket No pull the tip in and as we said at halftime during the break this is not over that ball a long shot you silly couldn't plate a worse first half and all they needed was to improve a little bit and they throw it away bones Mathilde all right kept alive it finally Altidore Cespedes comes up with the rebound and they can out of let that kind of miss mess up their focus they're coming back [Applause] [Music] and a look at the tournament summary well again we see Duke losing today at LSU fourth straight season with to number seven seeds in the sweet 16 and you know we had a chance to watch Georgetown one of those team very dangerous team with this size and their intelligence and discipline they could get to the final floor [Applause] nice on date Batista posting up weak side out the door Cespedes dumps it down to flexing out of bounds Bozeman getting a hand on it the UCLA is on an eight-oh run from the last minute of the first half until right now and you suspect min Helen said at halftime the same thing we mentioned you can't play any worse Morrison looking for the ball they find him all the way to our two by far Maj Morrison inside but he's the great cat man he draws the foul so big proper will go to the line well again UCLA executing defensively except for one breakdown off the screen there's a double then he does a nice job boom Bob moot a gets over there just a little bit too late causing a foul on the backline not being able to puffer Bautista as he rolls to the basket and all it takes is one little breakdown one little breakdown defensively there's a flower has a sit picking up his third personal [Applause] couple Game four that's 13 points all coming in the second half against Alabama [Applause] which he still was 12 once it was too for Gonzaga as they get back into the zone what do they want to do against this zone at your UCLA you want to go inside out you got big ryan hollins in there let him touch it force the zone to contract kick back out and this shooters have to step up you have a chance to penetrate off the bounce do the gaps you try to do that as well but it's all about ball movement and it's about penetrating six left in the shot clock there's Halloween and it's rate that gets there I think he hurt to come all the way over here we'll all too often people don't east-west and is dancing against his own rabbit and penetrate Tolleson again and even go to the line right now it seems a collison better suited in running the offense against his own Jordan Farmar as Collison more willing to put it on the floor and create daran Rancho Cucamonga California only a freshman honorable mention all freshmen team in the pac-10 and she loved was California City I love it come on [Music] they play basketball there I picked up the foul a second [Applause] with it ca1 fatness on demand you can watch live tournament games outside of your viewing area on your computer for free sign up now at NCAA sports calm em m OD seems as though bente-helen still have to get his guys to settle down palace 82% free-throw shooter get that one out of his system the first miss woods gland a lot better allow them to set up their full-court pressure and morrison fouled in the backcourt by Bozeman who picks up his second Gonzaga recognizing that they got a bit of a mismatch they're both but a pretty good defender long but you don't have to play you don't the body up in the backcourt Morrison won't hurt you there he'll hurt your CV steps over to half-court line Morrison to Pendergraft back door Morrison cut off by Hollins good job by both in that time takeaway to back your but this screen and roll Batista no gets his own rebound and sticks it in very effective and Batista doing a nice job he mentioned in the first half the best way to get open set a screen roll defendants still trying to figure out whether to guard the ball a guard the guy who set the screen the teesta averages 19 on the season has 14 tonight he's the leading scorer for the Zags bozeman Varma and Buffington got about strength right there on the body strength this horse that went up and you need some of that you need to play some power basketball he for nap time if zakah has led by as many as 17 we've got a 2 versus a 3r Ivo pulling up off the top the dribble callosum with the rebound quickly into the frontcourt putting pressure on the defense hey young fella through its now by six and a foul called on Farmar and see the problem UCLA is having every time they get a good play they compounded with a sophomore era but we talk about policy then sooner the handle is UCLA off against the Gonzaga so he's getting it done [Music] [Applause] do you see lar the second half to pull to within six Fargo along with night Pendergraft Morrison quick release three pacify there comes the all-america well again a need situation you go to your best player the flower looks like he bought him but least on this angle look like that was a whole lot of contact if any on the jump shooter right there and a lot of times guys hit the bottom of that elbow and that made me when a flower was whistled for that's his fourth foul and going to blow the UCLA he's one of the best if not the best perimeter defender and their leading scorer and both he and farm are right now on the bench more as it adds the free throw this would be a test of UCLA's depth right now in Zaka changing their defense the 3/4 22 press those little the collison wall has come in and replaced Afflalo he's a shooter bozeman cut off on the baseline we gotta get good ball reversal you want to get wrong some opportunity some open looks against the zone good ball reversal one side to the other Collison great breaking down the D again not this time Batista with the board is v Fargo heavy traffic down the lane no [Applause] Boseman Eric Goldman steps on the baseline not a mouse well you sell a back to making mistakes Jordan Farmar now checks in trying to give the team a little more stability made a terrific run but you got a wonder if it took a lot of energy out of them and again with Afflalo on the bench that only does it hurt from a personnel standpoint but psychologically as his teammates see the best player on the team on the bench they got a question whether or not they can come back without Lloris it can't give him a space in the corner and boys would hit the rebound roll to the basket bender grab with the rebound zags with numbers Pargo strong knocked out of his hand by one bob bootay [Applause] and now a sub coming back in Bozeman heads to the bench and phallus and returns he's done a nice job for Coach Allen breaking down this good Zaka defense especially when they're in zone [Applause] uCLA is trailed by as many as 17 at one time in the first - the scores 37:28 kapa double-team lits the defense no forced up a bad shot night is there and he's filed he got fouled by the backboard on that one [Applause] again you take a look desperation shot he goes up and he got filed by the backboard absolutely officials have done an overall excellent job today that's just one call that they missed that's what happens and the foul called on Boombah booty picks up his third night missing the first next Thursday on Survivor 1 cast awake could be forced to leave the game don't miss a new episode when survivor returns next Thursday on CBS America's number one network one of two from the line tonight the winner of this game takes on the Memphis Tigers who dismantled Bradley Rodney Carney all-america as well for coach John Calipari having an excellent game Darius Washington jr. also with the double-digit upper at 10 in the first half Farmar deep got his man in the air no look pass won't step back jump shot dad he buries it [Music] Gold 13:09 to play 5143 Zack's and a look at the game summary by half but for UCLA a tale of two halves he looked at the shooting percentage in the second half but he couldn't throw it in the ocean in the first half but again Gonzaga holding on despite just shooting 22% and again it comes down to UCLA's attack against the Gonzaga defense more penetration more ball movement off the penetrates and entry passes inside put pressure on the defense Margot Morrison walk it up before now Morrison the junior drawers Goomba move day the freshman this freshman has great energy lalla with four fouls Morrison inside Batista kept it up high and banks at home somebody along that back line for UCLA has to recognize where the screen is set that you got to step up on Batista here's Morrison again on the way can take leads in double clutch Power Man well you see what happens quick shot by wrong turns into a fast break for Gonzaga you see lanes got time to be a little more deliberate get the ball where they want to again putting pressure on the defense Morrison averages 28 he has 18 on 8 of 11 shootings with bla blue tape to straw par go the other way Morrison to trailer and that wasn't the shot you said they wanted by Bob okay you don't want say something to him you don't want to take away his aggressiveness and a travel on Batista 12 turnovers against Gonzaga 9 against UCLA Zags as the team 19:37 from the field 51% Bruins 1339 33% than 3 and 15 from the stripe downtown [Applause] you still has got a negative point right now set some kind of benchmark maybe get it under double digits with about eight minutes left and then you can bring Afflalo back and get the most out of them foul called on for Babu J that's his fourth [Applause] - to play in the second half Gonzaga with a 55-43 lead UCLA cut a 17 point deficit to six with 15 45 remaining but the Zags have responded with the 9 3 run and talk about some serious serious basketball players in attendance that's a great Bill Russell on the left big red the great Bill walked on the right big man play [Applause] now the city hall of famers the greatest college players to ever done uniforms remember Bill Walton 21 of 22 from the field against Memphis I remember that I watched that film after our battle my senior year you block the shot twice for what I heard it's alright they still beat us by water poly in Pali builds a good friend and terrific human being and Bill Russell looking you say just an idol of mine and just about any other big man defense and thought about winning University of San Francisco graduate news San Francisco is the host of this Oakland regional in the corner of Lalo back in Barrie's a jump shot on the baseline yes seven points rival quickly now Morrison off the dribble pivots bow should have been an offensive foul as he lowered his shoulder to make room but every once in a while there stretches when you see a can play pretty good defense of Morrison but they've got to be able to do is link to good defense on Morrison good overall team defense and putting together a string of successful offensive possession now foul on the other side on night fouling when you look at the star comparison obviously Gonzaga getting the best of it Marcin and Batista on top of their games and farm on a floral really struggling the flower obviously haven't be on enviable task of trying to guard out of Morrison as well back-to-back files on night against the flow he's using his hands that's the fourth foul on arrow night Altidore Cespedes racism as night heads to the bench with this for the fall has got to get used to the fact that Gonzaga is going to go aggressive against him he's got four fouls he's got to keep his emotions in check play a discipline brand of offense where he doesn't push off doesn't try to create space that's not a natural creation of it in the shoulder or anything like that Palala averages 16 leading store has seven let's apply this is you three this is what I mentioned at the point in time when you got to get a flower back in the ballgame and get the most that you can out of them despite the four fouls [Applause] we're in Afflalo and the line [Applause] when an NCAA related prize every 35 seconds at My Coke Rewards calm / NCAA [Applause] uCLA is a team 14 of 20 from the line Gonzaga 16 of 20 and the referees want to see if it's a two or a three point attempt by Arron Afflalo you'd be the judge we take a look at them setting that right now that's definitely a three got about 6 8 inches behind that eye line [Applause] well he will shoot two more and 37 to play 57 46 UCLA after trailing by 17 has been as close as six near the second half again like I said you set benchmarks try to get it under double digits still in my mind they can go to eight minutes before it happens with a flower missing out on a grand opportunity 103 ten point game Malon Morrissey Bautista out the door Cespedes with desire Morris is popping out all the way rightio pizzas man off the drills [Applause] and Morrison wheeling inside let's it go it gets the bounce [Applause] nice and soft on the rim that's not luck that skill utilizing some terrific backspin Pharma right answer nine of 12 from the field 20 points five boards just kind of hate to see farm are just settled and work a little bit harder push the ball push the envelope against the defense she had an opportunity it was a lane to the basket Morrison squaring up off ball hard across the lane step-back jumper mallet with the Reebok C those are the things that you cannot allow to happen make a good stop and they get a second opportunity outlet pass Afflalo tracks it down he's got far ball and he hasn't rejected by malady not a very good fast by Oh sometimes when you basketball royalty you get away with some stuff look at that left arm little bit of a push off freezes defender rouse Morrison to step back then I'm sure we have seen that with a lot of the top scorers in America today that's maybe something that people teach certainly it's instinctive create lumen in your great scorer usually don't get balls on it or is it out of the game Pendergraft who places 9:22 go second half [Music] [Applause] voila quick-release got no legs under it again the lateral pass for the three is not nearly as effective as she inside out because the shooter doesn't slow into the shot now let's draw the pump and he's called for travelling 14 turnovers and after the second round game against Indiana when Morris embattled up temperature he has come back 20 points tonight at 35 in the first round against Xavier now let's say he also fought a better brand of defense from a scrappy Indiana Hoosier team today there's some effort from the UCLA defense but they made some fundamentally poor defensive mistakes barbar download nice pass ryan hollins almost ripped down the goal there's that dribble penetration you've been talking about I don't know why Pharma would even pull up to take a three unless it is a wide open from an inside pass mark few calls a timeout 831 to play second half UCLA Dow evading aggressive 59-49 Gonzaga with the lead 831 to play here in the second half the winner to advance to the Elite Eight to take on the Memphis Tigers Tigers defeating Bradley 82 64 in our first game of the night in Oakland Rodney Carney putting on his show 23 points he was 7 of 12 from the field Daria's Washington jr. with 18 points on 8 of 14 shooting at 10:00 in the first half [Music] here's reveal inside Batista jump ball banks it home - sealed off Holland's both balance kept alive by Morrison's rebounded by Pendergraft the file called Holland's little frustration by Holland's and there's a way to cure that frustration hounds broke open posted up strongly inside teammates have to get him the ball [Music] 61-49 zags on top of the Bruins a three versus a to the winner to advance to the Elite Eight where the Memphis Tigers the number one seed in Oakland awaits they defeated Bradley earlier this evening 80 to 64 behind 23 points from Rodney Carney on 7 of 12 shooting and 18 points from Darius Washington Jr on 8 of 14 shooting and in this game UCLA with a horrendous first half on both ends of the floor he couldn't play any worse than that but you know they rallied towards the end of the first half came out smoking in the beginning of the second half got it to 10 have been flirting with getting it under double digits but not able to get over the hump a huge psychological hump if they can get [Music] [Applause] comes Farmar zags back in the zone it's called UCLA some problems Holland's baseline 12-footer Laos home he's not a great game just as I mentioned the previous possession he broke wide open underneath the basket no one got him the ball got frustrated committed a foul that's how you keep the big guys happy and keep them working acknowledging a little bit now we're gonna ping-pong you back and forth between this game and Texas West Virginia it definitely gets you out to the finish zags up 6251 now Morrison Tennessee UCLA's switching on the high screen now trying to prevent the roll by Batista that's been so effective for both ago but you got to pay for it morrison has a pro game 22 points you rarely see guys with that mid-range game anymore Lavo block gets his own rebound [Applause] Morrison flopping around and he has frustrated Afflalo this evening so here come the sacks back on the floor along with the Bruins Afflalo will go to the line 64 53 [Music] Jagga [Applause] [Music] 6450 for zags with the lead 11 points for Arron Afflalo he had four and a half time UCLA is trailed by as many as 17 they've cut it to six here in the second half I haven't been able to get any closer Intergraph guarded by [Music] every day now drive good recognition by Ravi Oh again aggressive to the basket Gonzaga that's how to continue to keep this league putting pressure on UCLA [Music] twelve boys the averages eleven zaga gets back in that 2-3 zone we've seen very little penetration from the Bruins tonight against this zone Lipton mouse keeps breaking open in front of Batista when Hollins Lindt guys should be thinking about getting him the ball swallow three count he has 14 now 66-57 got it under that magic double-digit deficit and a reach-in foul on Farmar [Applause] and that will send Fargo to the line to shoot one and 119 files against the Bruins bar maar picks up the second and by now during this game Jordan Farmar should understand how the officials are calling the game you know when you get over that hump you don't want to give easy points away you play solid defense position defense force the other guy to make a mistake plenty of time [Applause] so cargo heading to the free-throw line [Applause] [Music] [Applause] [Applause] Margeaux first free throw good Gonzaga as a team shoots 78% from the free-throw line and Jeremy Pargo has an older brother Gennaro par goals late at Arkansas now blaze at this Chicago boy [Applause] five-fifty to play second half Gonzaga with the 67 57 lead and how about the Texas Longhorns winning at the buzzer over West Virginia [Applause] [Music] Foligno hitting the jump shot for the Longhorns and they will advance to the final eight to take on LSU plus the second time those teams have played the last first game they played earlier this year was a one pointer in the Guardians classic up in Kansas City and now Kenton Paulino with a big three at the buzzer and sometimes it takes that kind of luck Gruner on this level in the sweet 16 - ech one out [Applause] Oakland California Gonzaga of three against UCLA a to zags lead at 67 57 they landed one time by 17 37 to 20 UCLA came back in the second half to cut it to 6 does axe still pulling away both the down the lane the teardrop with the left hand go [Applause] take off Memphis Tigers who defeated Bradley and our opener 82 64 behind 23 22 out knee Kearney at 18 points from Darius Washington Memphis has played bulk at these teams this season wall blocked by [Applause] goaltending is the call Memphis has played both of these teams beating Gonzaga 83 72 in UCLA 8880 well obviously that's clearly goaltending but the story of this game is UCLA coming out like deer-in-headlights really play tentatively couldn't play the worst first half suddenly got their barons towards the end of the first half and beginning in the second half to make it a ballgame as you mentioned brought it to us in six but never able to get over the psychological hump and cut the deficit end of double digits until now now they've started to get the feeling but is it too little too late for 53 to go 69-62 good zaga 69-62 Gonzaga reset it for you UCLA out of timeouts Adam Morgan well he's taking on all comers for UCLA today tried a variety of defenders but he shoot antenna 14 from the field only one a fork from beyond the arc that means he's gone to his mid range and his close in game which shows you his versatility let's see if the zags tighten up a bit they've led his entire ballgame see a light creeping closer [Applause] and the man now ravio throws it inside with the Keystone's for Holland face guard and he didn't see the ball you can't play defense like that lucky could teach it and walk to the basket for an easy layup now Morrison ours down the lane rejected Holland's in the hands Bautista no night gets up take it away by posting there come the Brewers Pharma has struggled P possession no you got to make sure you get a good winner get fouled can't bail out with an easy three that's what Gonzaga is invited [Applause] [Music] Collins has been excellent for UCLA the most consistent player on the floor tone WaMu teh up the dribble the frat guy bump man he told uh he's got bumped three times in no call 69-62 that's kind of disheartening and he go at the basket Lara get bumped several times no call and then they call that kind of stuff partner looks a little what side the game reset UCLA out of time ops Road the tent evolves Gonzaga with six 69-62 is you take a look at the foul trouble or night before for Gonzaga Adam Morrison ready to go to the line shooting to take the key numbers there one UCLA is now allowed Gonzaga to shoot the double bonus and no timeout for UCLA if they bound to come back to be very tricky ventolin to manage it [Applause] so Adam Morrison going to the line he has 22 points is one of two had the free-throw line this evening [Applause] that's the first tonight it's David Letterman Sean Diddy Combs was a special snowboarding top-10 and salsa and chips get dumped from the room second free throw good 71 262 exactly with the lead 3:25 to play in the second out the winner to move on to take on the Memphis Tigers for a spot in the final four inside and the foul ball this one will go I believe against night if so with his fifth and that will be it for him this evening I can tell you what UCLA has to face this two-three zone going forward nice adjustment by Gonzaga in moving Batista up to the balls at the top they moved the Tisa's the middle guy on that back line they move him up closer to the free-throw line whenever it looks like penetration is going to be made to try to deter nat penetration that's the only way UCLA has had any success against the 2-3 zone [Applause] nuku chard from veloute gets the first and on the other end of course exams Agra gets possession expect out of Morrison to have his hands on the ball off the second free throw good stop coming in the freshman Darren Collison comes in the game-winner here as we mentioned takes on Memphis the team that both of these teams played earlier in the Morrison double-teamed in the corner guys a gym a lot of it leaves his feet the Skip pass Fargo can't hold on pressure bang for the Bruins 15 turnovers for Gonzaga but with sudden pressure appropriately applied having Batista handling the ball but here's the UCLA again getting over the psychological hump get a turnover you've got to find a way to score kickball by ravio we mentioned that Memphis is defeated both of these teams Tigers defeated Gonzaga 83 72 and UCLA 88 back on the river 23rd farm our deep three Afflalo rebound has it taken away by malice Lala gets up slowly now Gonzaga when waste as much time as possible dry BIA Morris it off the bounce steps back 50 put her know pretty good defense [Applause] playing it before fowl farmer to the basket the runner what a tremendous offensive rebounder Toshi's led to packed in an offensive rebounding but he just has a nose for the ball commands the weak side two minutes ago you see out life fans rising to their feet they need stops right here under to farm are reaching in-game clothes they're trying to isolate Morrison now on a timeout called by Gonzaga 148 to play roads aren't done yet [Music] 71 66 Gonzaga with the lead as you take a look at the reset zags with only one timeout remaining UCLA trailed in the first half 37 220 men Howland did not panic patiently his team has worked back into this game Adam Morrison with the quiet 24 this game takes off Memphis more trip to the Final Four well it let's make it clear now both of these teams know how to win you say like one nine and 14 of the last 16 and Gonzaga is coming in reading 20 straight so they know how to win they've come from behind also they played with Leeds rival rebodied Batista and Collison comes out whipping here come the Bruins malice in the freshman to the basket the only reason that they could wave that off as if the charge I mean the block came before it let it go have to be way better [Applause] Claire was in the act of shooting took off when the contact was made the only way you wave it off that the contact was made before he went into the act and before he left the floor at least from that angle [Applause] look as though he was in the act of shooting he pulled the ball up off the dribble palace it at the lie go hands it off to Morrissey 124 to go you got to make your brakes call us at 82% free-throw shooter got it knock ones down [Applause] Fargo's got a good handle on the ball as the sacks run the weave Morrison guarded by Bozeman Dorsett fighting down the lane ball knocked out of bounds last touch by Gonzaga the last play by Collison here he is on the drive contact was made and let's it looked as though ravio might have reached in but even then he had already pulled the ball up there's just no way minute delay 71 66 turrets 1/4 runner [Applause] 50.2 to go Gonzaga up 71-68 Revilla what do you do now UCLA defensive you kind of play defense and make a stop without foul you got time and a timeout called by the Zags 40.82 go 26 on the shot clock 71 68 both teams out of timeouts Gonzaga in the double bonus UCLA shooting one in one sags with the 71-68 lead after leading big in the first half 37 to 20 Adam Morrison has 24 points coach Hollins team though continues to fight they've got to play serious defense for the next 26 seconds and try to keep this on one possession game they give it to the all-america Morrison in the backcourt and he quickly gets it over the midcourt line [Applause] hands it off to rival Ola point guard they give it to morrison guarded by far more step-back jumper deep off the heel loose ball and a foul on who it will go I believe against Batista take a look Morrison drive to the baseline to fade away good defense by Farmar and Anse Batista right I didn't see a foul on that one either I saw a pretty good blockout by both guys unless there was some hand play that undetected by the replay angle not a bad man to file Hollins a 60 percent free throw shooter [Applause] get super 7169 well the problem is you still have to make them miss they've got a foul instead of making a good stop and getting an opportunity shoot for three for the time second free throw good 71 70 so even with to make free throws UCLA will still have a chance if they can rebound to tie this game up Pendergraft the inbounder on the baseline and the only guy that you might think of fouling is Jeremy Pargo at 69% they throw it to Morrison he holds on we don't want to foul Morrison to make them get it over half court you know you got a foul [Applause] believe [Applause] are you kidding me after being down by 70 City Oh Mac 2.6 to go UCLA that's prime the moon Bozeman Afflalo found with 1.9 to go and he will shoot two Morrison is this for after leading the entire ballgame the Navy ships number two score went down earlier now out of Morrison the leading scorer in the nation needs a miracle as Afflalo goes to the line at 80% free-throw shooter he's left the door open for America Lokar [Applause] and they've got to put it in the hands of Morrison second free-throw is good violence comes into the game he'll guard the ball Pendergraft the inbounder on any long pass trying to get it to half court you still want to go after the ball like your corner in that Garden Court but he's done with the cat [Applause] [Music] [Applause] defeats Gonzaga 7371 after being down 5:17 [Applause] as I mentioned you seen so many of these shots getting hit because you don't go after the ball aggressively that time to teach the still makes the catch but not in a good position you gotta go after the ball like you're a quarterback in football you see I'm very fortunate but then again they earned this one [Applause] winning basket right here Batista kind of casual with the ball gets it taken away and then look at the vision but far more bootay presence of mind you playing the worse that you could play in the first half go down 17 and you get a young team like this to show this kind of character and poise and the flipside you get a better a team that falls apart at the end unbelievable and that tells a story and what could be the final game of the career of Adam Morrison our Chevrolet players of the game Brian Holland was terrific for UCLA and Adam Morrison 24 points UCLA down 71 262 with 327 left they get the last 11 points of the game the win and we have a one versus a two in Oaktown Adam Morrison is that the final time he plays in college will see UCLA moves on dramatic 7371
