to start our Twin Hooks nail rig we want to cut off a desired length of leader material so pull out the required length I roughly take off around 800 millimeters to a meter do allow enough for your Snell Knot as well so you're still not if you're doing roughly around 12 to 15 reps around the hook it's going to take up around 15 centimeters 20 centimeters depending on the liter material size and hook size you can either use A J hook or a circle hook in this demonstration I'm going to use a J hook so we simply to make this rig as easy as possible and fast as possible you want to tie the end hook on using a simple Uni knot we do not want to do a Snell Knot with that simple fact that it takes up time and we don't want to be a stiff hook by tying it it allows a little bit of movement with the hook on the knot itself so a little bit of lubrication pull it tight cut off your excess tagline and now we can work out where we want to run our snelled hook this is quite a simple process we want to ensure the top of the line runs down the top of the hook and not underneath we don't want to go up underneath we will actually come from the top and go through the top of the eye and this is to avoid any obviously line coming down towards the gape of the hook and the fish's mouth rubbing on it having teeth marks and rubbing through and breaking off that leader material there so if we can avoid it as much as possible we want to keep it on the top side of the hook we then go through top of the eye pull that through now we need to work out how long we want that leader to be between the first and the second hook and that depends on our bait sizes so whether it's a live bait dead bait strip baits whatever it might be you're using you do want to allow enough room between it so if we were using a live bait we would get the bait we want to obviously run the end hook up through the tail section and this would go up near the lips of the fish like so so we know that that's about exactly where we want it to be we do need to allow for a little bit of extra line there if we're using a live bait because if you have it too tight the live bait can't swim he's very stiff so it's important that we allow a little bit extra line but not too much that it's got a massive big loop around it like that you can get caught up it doesn't look very natural so we've got to limit them out of line we've got out with it just enough for that live bait to swim so once we're happy with that this is the very important part of tying the Snell Knot is that we ensure that we go the correct way around that hook Shank with the knot if we go the wrong way we actually pinch it on the end of the hook eye and that becomes a very much a weak point and you'll break that off under extreme pressure fighting a fish so make sure that we go the opposite direction and we actually want to go down the shank of the hook not coming back around where the end of the eye is so it's really important so we start looping it around we want to make around 12 to 15 wraps nice and tight work your way down the shank of the hook pinch it between your forefinger and your thumb get the end of your leader or you want to go back through the top side of the hook pull it nice and tight and there we have a very fast and easy twin hook Snell rig
