welcome to episode three of season three of the $100 flip up challenge where we take a 100 oie dollars and try and work our way up to a high-end gaming PC and right here today we are starting off this episode with actually two pieces of really good news and that is from the last episode we barely put together two setups in that we still had one that was incomplete and it needed a graphics card but then we sold the other setup up and I got $50 from that and I bought a GTX 970 and sold that setup for 350 we listed it for 400 and someone came in and offered $ 350 and I said sure come and pick this thing up and that was two happy customers that walked away with gaming setups and more importantly it's a happy Tech yes man that's walked away now with a starting balance of this episode of $600 Aussie doll roughly however you guys have criticized in previous episodes gasoline costs and so I'm going to factor it in in today's calculations where I've filled up my tank at $80 a fill and that gets me around 650 km where every episode I'm averaging about $1 15 km and that makes it about $20 per episode and since I just filled up the tank I will subtract it from this calculation so we are going to start off with $520 Aussie doll but that said here is the second piece of good news and that is we just picked up some free monitors and that's plural monitors two monitors where initially I was on Facebook Marketplace just looking for monitors as cheap as possible came across this listing for a BenQ monitor where they're asking 50 Aussie doll and they said it works I thought that was a fair price I didn't even want to haggle with that because they had another listing where they had a 19in and they said come and get this for free and so I just said I'd take both the monitors and as I'm on my way up there I said do you have pay ID which is a form of online payment here in Australia and they said no and then I said do you have change for a $50 note and they said no but then after that they just said come and get them for free and then I asked are you sure and they said yep and I'm like I'm on my way and quickly snag those monitors up now we're at a park in an area that's pretty close to the next deal that we have lined up here and that is a 500 watt power supply they're asking 40 initially I put in an offer of 20 they came back at 30 and then I said look I'm in the area what's the best you can do me they said $25 Aussie dolls so let's go jump in the tech yes mobile that's my car and then go get this power supply then we'll talk about our strategy going forward with this episode season 3 of the $100 flip up challenge is brought to you by VIP SD Keys bringing you that $15 Windows 10 Pro key license when you use that coupon code bftc links in descript description [Music] [Music] below so we just ended up picking up that power supply it was actually really interesting at first because they gave me the power supply in a box and then I opened it up and I saw there was no Sader or mle cables at all and I said do you have the cables and then the guy went inside and looked for like 5 minutes and eventually found them but thank goodness I asked that because if I had got home and there was no cables I would have been fuming because because when you're on a budget especially you really want to make sure you're getting what you pay for but going forward here I've got two more deals lined up one of them is a whole system however it says it has a faulty power supply and it's got a 750ti an i5 8 GB of RAM now one thing also to remember is that I do still also have 16 GB of DDR3 memory that I pulled off that 32 GB setup and so I can play around with sort of lower RAM Systems if I can get them for the right price and here's where they're asking $1 Aussie doll for this system I put it an offer of 70 they said sure come and get it and then I said I'll come and get it now and then they came back and said I'm going out tonight and it's a Sunday night come on who goes out on a Sunday night but the second deal we've got here is a monitor again for $10 and so I'm going to go pick that up right now it's a Lenovo monitor just like in episode one the exact same thing so good old Lenovo is going to come in clutch as always however you'll notice that I'll probably have three monitors after I get this next one and that's the strategy going for with this episode is that I'm going to collect as many cheap parts as possible and then figure out what setups I can put together again because I think with 520 Aussie doll I'm just not ready to go for like a contemporary RTX 3060 setup and the main reason for that is I could probably just pull it together however if something was faulty with the Contemporary Parts it's going to be much more expensive to replace if something is faulty as opposed to these cheaper setups if something's faulty I can usually replace it for really cheap so with this episode I'm going to go with one more session of just finding really Bargain Basement sort of out of style deals making these cheap setups and then episode 4 I think we're going to move in to that higher end Market or that more contemporary [Music] [Music] market so we just got back now and the Lenovo monitor ended up being you guess it free and I don't know what it is it must just be Sundays and monitors people just giving away monitors for free so I was driving to pick this up I was going to pay 10 bucks for it and then I said to the guy look I'm going to be a little bit late cuz that power supply deal came up and he's just like look mate I'm just going to leave it out front for you just come get it anyhow let's clean up these monitors and see if they work or not and unfortunately one of these monitors doesn't work and that's this little 19in Acer here but the good thing is with it is the adapter works now with monitors you generally I find 99.9% of the time you don't need to even hook them up to a computer to know if they're going to be good to go for instance this Lenovo it gave out a signal as soon as we hooked the power up and same with this Ben Q the 20 4 in that gave out uh Power and a perfect blue screen too because usually with monitors when you buy them used you're going to come into one of three problems if there is problems and the first one is like this it just doesn't power on at all and actually inspecting this top leftand corner here there's actually a crack there that I didn't notice before so that's probably the reason why this monitor doesn't work it's just been bashed around in the past and then got a critical hit and it's no longer getting back up from the ground the the second problem you can come into with monitors that will be visible without connecting it to a computer is there'll be massive cracks in the screen and that's just the lcd's been damaged by either someone punching the monitor or it's just dropped and hit the ground or something like that it's basically had a lot of impact and then there's the third problem and that is the lights in the back whether they're LEDs or the old school ccfls the lights blow out and they're actually just extremely hard to especially on a budget monitor they're just not worth your time and money to replace them so what we got here is looking like there's two of three monitors that we got for free that work perfectly fine and so I just can't be sad about the fact that the two bigger monitors that would be much better in flips work as opposed to this little guy right here and at least I now have a new punching bag so it's actually pretty late and I'm going to get some rest and then we're going to look for some deals in the morning see what we can like up however you're probably like Brian you spent a whole day just getting three monitors and no I actually started this late in the afternoon I was recording another video this morning then lunchtime I had to do a lot of other stuff I'm just on overdrive right now there's so much I got to do outside of YouTube too before Christmas so we got to make all this happen fast ping ping ping ping ping ping ping and no drugs are bad so it is a brand new spanking day here at Tech yes City and also on the Gold Coast and it's really hot here today so I'm wearing a singlet and I've already been on that aggressive overdrive to match the singlet since the morning on the deals where we found a gtx650 for $100 I put down an offer of 80 hopefully they accept then I've just put out more offers on gpus a GTX 1070 TI they asking 225 I put in a bit of a lower offer here of $120 so I'm hoping they accept that cheeky offer but then there's also an RX 570 asking $100 with other parts in the listing put down an offer of 60 so while those people get back to me I'm actually going to go see Les where I need to actually get a laptop for him for someone else someone else has asked me for a laptop and so I'm kind of working in like the middleman here and making my cut on top so we're going to jump into the yesmo right now go up see Les and see what he has for [Music] us [Music] and so what we got right here from Les we ended up uh picking up 2100 $100 PCS from him so I went in there hoping to get the typical i7 4770 Dell precisions or Dell Opti plexes DDR3 and then just add my own SSD hard drive and case switch it and go get a fancy RGB case but when I walked in he had these two PCS and he said do you want to have a look at these and they're 6 gen i5 and basically with these PC's they already had RX 460s in them they have ddr4 and I was like well how much how much do you want for them and he said I'll take a 100 a piece and I said well for a whole setup that just needs drives that is a sound deal to me it's also got the Wi-Fi C to the back and a cic power supply inside the system so decent power supplies decent gear I've just got to add in another 8 GB of ddr4 RAM to each of these because I'm finding if you're selling a gaming PC setup you will definitely want a 16 GB of RAM in there but I still had to add drives to these systems so what I decided to do was I asked him do you have any ssds or any drives that you can sell me and so what he said to me was look I've got two hard drives and I said well we had two terabytes but he was asking $20 a pop for him I said well look have you got 2 1 tab he said sure and I then I asked him how much for two uh 256 GB ssds or 240 I didn't really care so we had 2 56 GB ssds and he did us this whole set here for 60 Aussie so that's one SSD and one hard drive for each of these Rigs and that's going to be about $130 a piece and then I needed keyboards and mice and I just want the generic stuff nothing fancy and he had a couple of like Dells and I think a Logitech keyboard and basic mice that he put in a bag for us and he did them for $10 so that was $270 all up for this goodness right here which means we still have a good amount of balance left but speaking of that balance it's going to get depleted even further because we have to go now pick up an RX 570 the guy got back to me and it's really weird cuz he said he'd take $70 for the GPU then he just started saying he's got all this other stuff and some of it's got bent pins on the motherboard or something but it still boots and I'm just thinking to myself man I'll just get there and then see the gear and ask him what he wants for it in person so let's go close up and hit the yes mobile and get crack a lacking and we just picked up the RX 570 and it's actually missing one fan blade but I will see what I can do there I want to see if it still cools fine and if it vibrates and we might have a quick fix for that so we got that for $70 but the reason I bought that was because he had a power Supply that he said he'd do for $10 and these power supplies in odds they're literally about $50 at least brand new so that's a deal in itself but then he had this PC right here now the cas is really dinged up we are not using this case it's just impossible to use this thing even on like even if you did a real cheap setup it is just going to be like near impossible to sell in this case I've tried it in the past that's why I know from experience but then he said it's got a DDR3 memory it's got a motherboard with apparently some busted uh USB 3 pins which we'll check out when we get back to the T Studio but then he said he had an i5 uh fourth gen I think it's was like 4570 and the of course the cooler and the motherboard work it all boots fine and I said how much do you want for the lot he said 120 but then I looked at my wallet and I just had um $15 or I had 155 and I said ah you got change for 150 and he said no and I said well I got 105 he's like yeah that's okay and I'm finding people just don't carry change nowadays so they're like going to round down to the nearest 50 and so yeah you you'll end up saving a bit of money that way I guess that's a 2023 going into 2024 hustle tip for you guys but I've just been coming up um really good on that on that sort of I do have change for a 50 yesterday with the monitors but that being said I do have enough here to make three setups cuz we've still got some budget after this providing we get home and everything works out okay but I think the guy is legit I mean usually when I meet people at their house and they greet you straight away they're talking calmly they're talking slowly they're going to be fine there's going to be nothing to worry about in terms of getting hosed uh so I think this guy like I'd be surprised if this stuff wasn't working to be honest especially the GPU but anyway we we're going assume this works and then I still need to go out and get a case cuz I'm going to have to replace this case I'll still need if I want to make three setups work we've got a broken monitor so we can't rely on that so we still need to get another monitor another two drives or one bigger SSD we've got the power supplies we've actually got an overabundance of power supplies now which is a really good thing but we're going to also need a depending on how much memory memory is fine we've got the 16 GB of if that's only eight so what we're going to do right now is put out some feelers on some cases and some monitors and some drives and see if any come back to try and make our third setup but also there is some good news and bad news because the guys with the gpus the 1650 and also the GTX 1070 TI did get back to us but it's kind of and they said they'd take 120 and 80 respectively so I just I mean I got to find a case and I want to compl this third setup so we'll see how we [Music] go so we have now secured the third Monitor and we got this one for $ 15 Aussie doll and it's actually pretty funny cuz I offered them $10 and they came back at 15 but i' had messaged them already about it in episode two so they're like yeah that little bit of time has gone by since then they're eager to sell so they said it works perfectly so it's a view Sonic monitor it comes with all the cables and on top of this I'm not going to stop there I'm actually going to stock up a little bit with this SLO fun we've got and I'm going to get I've already actually messaged another guy on a monitor actually messaged a few people but he got back to me and said he'd take $20 for his AOC Aus monitor like he had two of them apparently so said he's got one left come pick it up and so we're going to go get that actually after we go get another deal and that is when we lined up uh 16 GB of ddr4 memory we found some online for $40 I put in an offer of 30 they came back and they said yep they'll accept that so we're actually going to go pick that up right now but we still need to pick up a case and an SSD I'm hoping some people get back to me on that I put out some feelers though without further Ado my fellow paladins let's go get some righteous [Music] [Applause] [Music] deals [Music] so we just got our 16 GB of ddr4 memory so that is going to completely complete those other two PCS in the boot the Les specials and what we got right now is actually a bit of a dilemma so we got roughly when I did the the phone math here we got about 100 bucks left over and I want to get a case and an SSD out of that but no one's messaged me back yet and I'm really hoping to get this done tonight uh cuz I just want to start putting my mind off looking for deals and start completing everything but we got two more monitors that have come up the guy who accepted a 20 as well when I was putting out offers said that someone else was going to pick one up and they didn't so they've got two monitors now the isus and the AOC and I'm like well what's the best price you can do me for them so iwise will just go stockpile more monitors too and then that would leave us I'm hoping I get it for 40 and that would leave us with 60 left to do that case and PPL so I'm gonna push it but in the same time I'm going to still have a stockpile for future episodes cuz honestly guys if you're getting monitors this cheap it's just not right like to get monitors this cheap so I was talking to Les and I'm like he's like do you need any monitors I'm like actually I got a couple of free he was shocked and then I'm like yeah and I've been picking up some really cheapies like you should clean all them up and I'm I'm thinking the same thing I'm like yeah I'm going to clean up these cheap monitors well I [Music] can so we are now back at the tech yes studio and it's time to unpack this madness right here but one thing I will uh say is that I don't just do this episode I've got a lot of other things that I do on the road so that's why all these boxes are packed in here and stuff and in terms of cases for this episode I couldn't find anything there was just nothing that was coming up I was just spamming and messaging so many people about like I even went down to like these $10 Banger cases and just no one got back to me except one guy who wanted $40 for his like dinged up Corsair case and I'm thinking no way cuz that would only leave me $20 for an SSD I'm not that desperate uh so there was another one that I really wanton it for 20 bucks I offered 20 they wanted 40 but I think I'm going to wait till tomorrow see if any more deals pop up and ssds as well so if worst comes to worst we'll just sell one of the setups get a new SSD new case and just go that route NGL I am feeling a tad defeated tonight even though I shouldn't be and I've got a bit of a headache coming on so I'm just going to rest this one off tonight instead of getting straight into it but looking at this table right here it's just insane already I'm looking at this I'm like this is what $100 has turned into ready and once we sell all this we are finally going to step up into the big leagues and start moving up into those contemporary gaming PCs cuz I'm hoping I'll get 350 a pop on each of these and this is bit of wishful thinking but if we can do 350 a piece we'll then end up with 1,50 and we'll still have two monitors left over so that's uh that's wishful thinking but we're going to try and make that happen from tomorrow morning [Music] all right we're waking up the next day and we have a faulty GPU here this is booted up once and then it crashed out and then now it's just giving out a B2 error which in the bias code it just means it's a dud GPU so that unfortunately I'm going to I've messaged the guy I said look man you said it was working fine yesterday I'm just then you seemed like a cool guy so I was like look I'm going to give you a chance before I just totally lose my you know and then um we got over here like this motherboard I pulled this out of the case and it's working fine the two RAM sticks work okay but we got this power on password as well which I'm trying to look up online on Google how to reset it but it there's just nothing online about how to do it every time I go on a HP Forum it's just like they say oh that we're locking down the threat so I'll try leave the BIOS uh battery out for a while but I've noticed there's these pins here I just don't know the orientation to put them in because there's no information on how to reset the bios there so I mean pretty pretty pissed at this point in time so we got some good and bad news here and the bad news is this card is completely toast I've already tested it on two different setups and I've also tried after that so many different things like flashing lower clocked V bioses on essentially I believe there's just faulty actual uh shaders on this GPU so this one is a complete lemon and basically just crashes it won't even run a benchmark for a more than like a second before it just crashes out however when I started talking to the guy I basically the first thing I asked was oh what's the password because I knew conversation could go south pretty quickly and it did and so he gave me the password I unlocked all this the good news here is that this these two RAM sticks the motherboard CPU Cooler the power they all work fine but then when I started saying hey the GPU is gone he's like oh you're not testing it on my setup that I sold you it was working fine when I tested it last it's like the typical excuse it was working when I tested it last it's always the same tunal here and then I just said look this doesn't work work dude I've it's just glitching and then he showed me like some photos of his current setup and different footage and I'm I'm like that's irrelevant to what you sold me and so anyway I ended up saying look I want to refund on this GPU and that's when he really started getting up and he just started calling me a low life all this stuff and accusing me of this and that and I'm just thinking dude I've done this so many times before I know when a card is faulty and when it's not faulty this card was sold to me faulty it was faulty before it left your house and so another way to tell if someone is telling you complete crap is if they sell you aart and they're straight away their response is it was working it was nothing nothing wrong came out of here right if I sell something and someone has problems whether it's a single part or a PC I'm always like oh okay do you want to bring it back and we'll work through it and try and work things out and get it working if not I can give you a refund that's usually how I operate and usually everyone who I've dealt with who if there's an honest problem after that that's how they deal with but this is straight away just deflection and then on the attack and so this one here is just really awkward because I can go and just really hammer for a refund it's just the last time I did it it really escalated to the point where is this really worth the money I mean I know I'm on this this flip up challenge and I know every dollar counts but one thing I've learned this time around is in the future I am going to get what nerd on a budget has and that's basically the whole setup in the boot because what I'm finding is it's always on these lower priced items anything under $1100 always seems to be $100 or under and a single GPU that's the most common Mo for a scam it's like that sort of thing it's just it just confuses me cuz I was angry before but I've calmed down now and I'm going to essentially finish this setup as originally intended but then I'll sell those other two setups and use some money out of that to get a GPU in the next episode because it's just at this stage it's really not worth it I'm just like man it's it's just I don't know how people can do that on such a cheap item because this one there's no doubt there is just zero doubts that this card is just completely faulty there's no way you do that and it's working and then it goes to having faulty GP you cuse it's just it doesn't happen so anyway anyway we'll go now we're going to go pick up a case good news is we got a case for they've come back with this uh yellow and black corset case I think it actually looks pretty cool so I'm going to go pick that up for $30 right now also I went through my contacts that I've previously picked up parts off cuz I couldn't find any ssds and I just asked have you got any ssds and one one person came back and they said yes they've got an SSD for 20 bucks so I'm going to go pick that up that'll leave us with $10 and I want to sort of complete these three builds minus now a GBU so let's get to the yes [Music] [Music] mobile [Music] so we've now finished up all three setups and the incomplete setup is still looking pretty good in that yellow and black Corsair case however of course as we said before we do need to find a GPU and that will go into episode 4 but what I'm quickly going to do now for the other two setups that work fine we're going to actually test out fortnite quickly and CS2 on the same settings that we did in episode 1 just to get a bearing of how the rx460 performs versus the GTX 760 and here is our first setup all complete and it is running fortnite on performance mode 1080p 100% screen res with about 100 20 to 130 average FPS which is really good cuz it's a little bit better than the GTX 760 setup and it's got 4 GB of vram so really happy with this let's check out the CS2 performance and this is CS2 now on low settings at 1080p 100% screen rares and we are getting around 100 again it's around 120 FPS probably a little bit more depending on the scene so pretty good it's just a little bit better than that GTX 760 [Music] setup so we are now at the finish line and we have 2.75 setups ready to go and one thing is about the Cs 2 and fortnite I like to test that just to get bearings of where FPS numbers are how good these older parts are even in 2023 and you're probably wondering what the intentions are going forward and I'm hoping to get around $350 Aussie doll per setup and I'm going to the first time I sell one of the setups I'm going to use about $50 from that to try and get say a GTX 970 or a GTX 960 and then put that in the third setup and put that up for sale to then hopefully have this is the intention to hopefully have around $11,000 now we did have coming out of this episode still have $10 left but it's just not going to be enough to find a decent GPU and with also the best thing is we've still got now actually a healthy amount of spare parts we got a spare power supply a spare monitor we got two monitors but one of them is broken but we got the adapter for that and we've also got 16 GB of DDR3 memory still as well as building up some cables uh SATA cables and things like that it's important to build up this little stack because we may need it going forward now so with the next episode though I hope we do come into our intended sales Zone and we do then have a healthy budget to start the next episode cuz I really want to start moving into say RTX 3000 territory where I feel there's a lot of good Bargains On The Used market and also get some good CPU Combos and try and make something really contemporary happen in that next episode in terms of the hose job it's something that one thing I looked back in the last two hours I thought about it and I'm thinking this is actually more part of it is on me as well I've noticed that I got hos with that 7970 and this was only in the last week and I usually never get hosed you guys watch the parts Hunts the monthly parts Hunts and outside of that I pick up a lot of deals I usually never get hosed and I've put it down to these episodes I'm so excited about it that I think I'm rushing it too much like I'm in a hurry to try and flip my way up too fast and the warning signs were there I mean I looked at the GPU when he handed it to me to me usually I just I know I wouldn't buy that GPU it's missing a little fan blade and it's pretty dirty as well as at 7970 I usually would just never buy that even though we got our money back for that one this rx570 is just a complete mess but one thing definitely is going to episode 4 I'm going to be more patient more calm like I am on the pods hunts and I'm just not going to get hosed the frustrations involved are just simply not worth it but the warning signs were there and I chose to ignore them cuz I was in a rush and that's the last time I'm taking someone on their word and so what I'm going to do going forward is I'm just going to be more patient more calm and stick to the regiment that I stick to in my parts Hunts even if that means these episodes do come a few days late I am very excited to get these episodes of the flip up challenge done so I can move up in the ladder but I think this time around it set me back at least a half a day in terms of wasting time time with this rx570 as well as a crucial $50 roughly which even though I I got that setup and that was actually decent like I didn't come out of that to hos and so I guess that's why I'm a little bit calmer now because even though I did get hose on the GPU the rest of the stuff did work and we've ended up still in the end we'll end up making a pretty good setup for around 180 and then use a free Monitor and still be in the clear say $70 so we'll still end up putting a monitor with it adding that SSD in and we'll still be clear $150 profit so even getting hosed I'm not too concerned I can make the magic work the bottom line is we are just going to keep on keep on and I hope you enjoyed this episode of the $100 flip up challenge if you did then be sure to hit that like button and also let us know in the comment section below what was your favorite deal of this episode mine would definitely be free monitors you can't go wrong with that and without aide I hope to see you guys in the next one peace out for now [Music] bye
