TRUCKS ON THE CANNING... CAN THEY DO IT?

welcome to this Overland Traveler Series on the world's longest public track the canning stock route [Music] episode 4 recovery [Music] [Music] thank you [Music] [Music] foreign [Laughter] I love it thank you good morning everyone all right we are all packed up we're ready to go so today uh the truck has had its Bush fixed hasn't it it's the bush fixes so we're gonna take it a bit easier today what we're going to do is um stick with the truck and we need recovery over a June you need someone to Anchor off or you need recovery boards for someone to get it run around for him and do that we just don't want to put any more stress in the truck that needs to happen so instead of him having to really push it to get up a dune yeah it can take it a bit easier we can help him out please probably fix up some of the whoops in the dunes which is expensive traffic before that's made a lot yeah so there's a group for 10 over 10 in front of us and they've really shot the dunes up so just made it a bit harder so we'll do that and we'll get the GoPro under and have a look at your fix and see how it goes it'll be interesting you might say ambitious one yet it's pretty cool all right see ya guys Okay so we've had a few casualties on the cruiser already I noticed this one last night we've lost a little cover here and then around this side we were just packing up the uh roof and I was like why is there such a big gap in the flat yeah no rubber rubber now and we found one more casualty lost our mud flap there we got the day started with some of the biggest sand dunes on the canning [Music] [Music] with the trucks racing fix we wanted to see if it would hold up so we threw the GoPro under the truck and it was looking quite promising and holding up nice one Adrian [Applause] oh yeah same gear but just yeah I went really slow just to yeah let me have yeah just a little bit quicker it would this won't take much better than Factory yeah that's good mate what a bush fixed that's perfect wow the truck is actually going quite well we have uh changed order of how we're going over so we're over first so if we um if the truck doesn't get stuck we can give him a tug Adrian's watching from behind and then we have Cam up the rear the more 70s that were going over the dunes the more chopped up it was becoming so that's why we've done a bit of a switch with the truck so I'm just trying to make it as easy for the truck to possible it's going to be slow I think we've done for June so far welcome back to chemicals car cam it is day five on the canning but so far this morning everything's been going good I think the cold sand is feeling good on the cars it's helping so far looking like the fix is holding up I think he's just Trump yeah so we've got a lot of Dunes still to go um I think the biggest ones are between well 42 and well 41. so we're gonna I think aim to get there today so we can top up with our water yeah we'll just see where the day takes us Not only was Michael taking it easy on the truck but fix but now we can hear a noise coming from the front hub in four-wheel drive compounding its issues truck Saturday there's a noise coming don't know what it is it could be a belt or but I don't know it could be something else so we really don't want to push the truck anymore than it needs to the speed is going to need to get up it's going to bounce that push fix too much so Matt's getting ready in position with saber winch we've got some saber gear out just to assist it up with a few Max tracks or something I think this recovery might look a bit over the top but with the trucks four wheel drive potentially out of the question and a front Leaf to nurse taking a fast-paced run up in four-wheel drive was an option we wanted to leave to last [Music] [Music] [Applause] foreign [Music] anyway that's the accounting for you so we just don't quite have enough run for this winch and then we're pulling a truck so you kind of need trucks to pull trucks like this kind of stuff so Michael's got his PTO driven winch so we're going to spin the Land Cruiser around and we're just going to use it as an anchor and just use a PTO driven Winch just to pull him up so the controller on the winch isn't working on the truck so no winch with a truck so we gotta come up with another plan we have found two shovels on this trip and we've got I think amongst us like six or seven shovels now so we're all just gonna I think we're gonna do is reverse truck down and we're going to dig it all out and we're going to put all the recovery boards we've got I think we've got 12 Max tracks and four Treads so we'll just put them all up and make a highway it's just a bit of digging to do thank you so yeah we got the truck driver by digging out the sand and putting down A Match Attax Highway um Adrian also came up and over which did flatten it out as well which was really good um yes back on the Move we've changed order again so it's us then Adrian and Ellen then the truck then came in court so yeah we'll see how we go yeah we're not at the biggest Dunes yet we're at the moment we're between well 44 and 43. I mean we're probably there for what an hour yeah an hour and a half I think it was closer to two because it was 10 30 there yeah right so yeah so yeah we can't really afford to do that every June so hopefully it gets I don't know how we figure it out a bit more yeah all right so we're over that section of Dunes now we are driving parallel to the dunes for a little bit towards well 43 so we've got a bit of flat section these sections are usually corrugated uh which they are at the moment but yeah it's about to 43 and then in degrees Celsius and then hopefully keep pushing on despite the challenges of the canning the changing landscape was constantly blowing us away and we were getting into a rhythm on the track and really starting to enjoy the adventure [Music] all right [Music] [Applause] a lot of people [Music] all right [Music] thank you [Music] foreign [Music] foreign [Music] all right we've pulled up to Camp we've set up having some cheese and bickies couple of beers um it's a good feeling getting in getting the fire going uh today it was a bit of a sort of good times and some bad times there was obviously the truck getting bogged uh we were there for a while sorting that out but as the day went on Michael really figured it out um didn't really need much help after that so we sort of went ahead into camp masavo and he caught up so you're a well 41. uh making yeah making the right time we are taking our time but yeah loving it was beautiful today the dunes are stunning the amount of vegetation on them but just the colors desert colors as I've said before on the channel I absolutely love desert colors I think we're just gonna have some dinner tonight relax we're all gonna have a good shower because there's good water here at well 41 so we're going to fill up all our water we're all going to have a good shower we've got the heater going so we're gonna have a good shower tonight we've just been having a little bird baths just to conserve water but ah it's gonna be nice to have a good shower but yeah it's watching the sunset it's beautiful daily dance daily dance daily dancer yeah all right we're a bit late tonight uh for the dance but must go on Master Show Must Go On we must decide who will be dancing for tomorrow so we'll kick off proceedings with today's dance Ellen would you actually nominate anyone now you've got a list already I've got too many I'll just pick probably my favorite one and I'm kind of plucking at strings here because I feel like this person will go the whole trip without doing anything Holly Christopher June today and it was funny courts or most of it yeah got it on film film evidence [Laughter] [Applause] for two hours oh yeah that was a pretty good box that was actually you got bogged on a June but you've refused to use any traction Ides of Max tracks we had to winch yeah we have a winch but I mean there's there's winching and then there's winching a truck you know upper sand dune so what are the contenders in the max tracks and face first hands on heads for Michael hands in the air for hole three two one [Applause] okay Holly thank you [Applause] oh sexy so it's just Adrian is it hasn't been done yet I want to go big you know you're gonna have a magnifying glass on your nail I just hope I want to go out in a big way there's a long time probably I mean like everyone's gonna have to have multiple dances so the canning has really been living up to its reputation as a track of Endurance on both people and vehicles but also as one of the most spectacular drives in Australia with the compounding issues on the truck we're not sure it's going to make the distance tune in to next week to see if it can continue on thanks for watching see in the next one [Music]
