And that's why the third movie blindly aped it in its first act, putting the humans in an unimposing vehicle, followed by the big bad liquid-metal terminator (but this one has an endoskeleton!) in a semi (but this one has a crane!), followed by the Arnold terminator (but this one has 50 more in its model number!).

But, being the third movie, it couldn't help but spoil its own action with stupid shit like the hilaaaaaarious bounce house shots, complete with cartoonish BOING noises or a bizarre interlude with a very aggressive dude John hits in traffic.

For those of you too young to remember, this scene was played almost in it’s entirety during the massive media campaign leading up to the release of the film. If you didn’t know what a Terminator was, if you didn’t even like sci-fi, you still saw the commercials and the clips everywhere, and you knew that this semi was doing crazy stuff trying to catch up to this kid on the bike, and the Terminator was doing AMAZING stuff on this giant motorcycle to save him.

Almost every beat from the scene was spoiled by the advertising, and I can tell you that it didn’t change a THING about how it played out in the theater. The energy was so high, you could feel the focus of the audience. It was riveting.

It’s funny how the scene is very constrained by modern standards. The location is too basic for a modern director, the vehicles too simple. The Fast and the Furious could never do this chase today. But the execution is so good, totally absent of any big fake CG cars, that this older chase eclipses most action set pieces made today.

I prefer the chase scene in the third act tbh, starting when T-1000 hijacks the helicopter

Back with you didn’t need to show blood and gory to let the audience know when some one had broken bones

it was super intense, especially when John nearly got bumped in the rear and t800 wasn't able to pass the t1000 car

Even after watching this movie a million times I still find my self tensing up and thinking John is still in danger.
