TRIANGLE OF SADNESS (2022) Behind-the-Scenes The Captain's Dinner

one of the really big challenges when it comes to choreographing and shooting the captain's dinner soon with all the vomiting and the kind of chaos that I'm trying to create is that we were shooting that scene for 13 days and we were on a rocking set everything was chaotic actually part of the film crew had to eat seasick pills in order to not get seasick themselves I definitely didn't want to rock the camera in order to to create waves I wanted to see in the bodies of the actors that the whole boat is walking I started to talk to Josephine Roseberry that is the set designer that we should build interior of you at the dining room a corridor a couple of the cabins on a gimbal so we could Rock the whole set in order to simulate the storm and cheers goes like yes of course we knew that we were going to build the interior since we wanted to be able to control the movement of the ocean and to combine it with exterior shots on an actual yacht on really George it's rare that things aren't safely attached we ignored the realism and instead started to imagine how we could get the most out of the rocking boat scenes what could we add to increase the effect of the movement and in the end the feeling of Chaos actually it started with me having an idea that on this luxury you there should be a Marxist captain and then I went on a cruise to do research for Dragon of sadness and during one of the days of this Cruise it was quite strong winds and big waves and all the guests were going to the dining room to eat an Italian buffet and it was very interesting to see how everybody in the beginning were excited and sitting there and like trying with like some positive vibe fighting their seasickness but as the dinner proceeded people got more and more sickness and also were getting scared of this sickness regarding the movements we also did tests of the color and the texture and adjusted each to each character we choose to have a white carpet in the dining room it gave the right feeling of a luxury yacht and also made the cleaning scene more painful that the cleaning ladies rubbed puke of a white carpet I'm very often interested in my movies about when we are breaking a social contract and what happens when someone is vomiting in in a dining room in a like a fine dining situation will they continue eating what will they do will they break the social contract of how you should behave during this kind of dinner and leave people for very long time were staying in that dining room and eating and they tried to like excuse themselves and leave like it had been a normal dinner and that that is a typical kind of situation that I love [Music] foreign [Music] foreign [Music]
