TRAVEL TIP | 12 Cruise Ship Tips From a Former Employee

cruising is arguably one of the easiest forms of travel but let me tell you as a former cruise ship employee there are some important tips you need to know before your invocation hello guys and know the ins and outs of cruising today I have 12 tips for you guys to save time money and frustration while cruising so let's get started number one bring cash with you ATMs on ships have incredibly high and shocking ATM fees so my suggestion is bring a few hundred dollars in cash with you on the ship this you can use in port and of course to tip your waiters and housekeepers which yes you should be doing on the last night of your cruise number two ask crew members for the best Wi-Fi spot I can say off the top of my head that I know at least three undiscovered Wi-Fi spots in almost every port in the Caribbean since we would visit those places so often they became like our second home so we became pros at finding Wi-Fi finding places that had great food fast connection so crew members truly know where the spots to go to get Wi-Fi are number three bring a power strip my cabin only had two outlets this is not uncommon so my suggestion is to bring a power cord everyone in your party will thank you and they can all charge their phone at the same time number four take advantage of first-day discounts get on the ship early and you will be shocked by how many raffles and and discounts they have just for simply arriving early you can find these first-day discounts especially in the spa gym in the gift shop especially liquor sales tend to be very discounted on the first day as well as booking things like shore excursions and restaurant reservations and if you are interested in getting a spa appointment of some sort like a nice massage or facial try to book that for the very first day of the cruise you're going to get an insane discount because it's very hard for them to find customers on the first day since everyone's getting used to the ship so if you're wanting to get lots of money off booked it on the first day and if not then try to book it during a port to your in that maybe you're not interested in getting off they tend to put discounts on pork prices as well number five bring a plastic shoe rack cabin space is tight so an over-the-door shoe rack can be very multifunctional for storing shoes jewelry socks any type of accessory it'll keep things less cluttered in your cabin and ultimately less stressed this cabins tend to be very small number six do not book a flight on the day the cruise leaves or the day that you get back to port it is very possible you will miss your cruise if you are flying to the port on the day of embark Asian now it is not uncommon for flights to be delayed or to be canceled and you don't want to be rushed and miss your entire cruise so a sturdy mark it can take hours to get off the ship you'd be surprised how many times we were delayed getting into port it is very common due to medical emergencies or various problems in the port itself I was shocked shocked by how many people would book a day of flights knowing our ship arrived at 6 a.m. to port there's just no way that you're going to make it if you booked a flight that early my suggestion to you is that you booked a hotel room for the night before the cruise and the night after the cruise in your port is way less stressful and you're going to feel a lot more secure knowing that you're making your flight can the cruise number 7 don't get to the gangway early every night you will receive and itinerary to your reel of what the schedule is for the next day if it says the ship arrives at 8:00 a.m. to port don't get down there at 7:45 a.m. this was by far my biggest pet peeve as a cruise ship worker because it can cause major crowding in the stairways which is a huge hazard even though the ship is technically docked in port it can take a while for the game ways to get out and for us to be cleared to get off the ship the best thing you can do is just listen to the announcements on the ship letting you know when the gangway has been open and when you can get down and stick to the schedule as much as you can don't arrive to the gangway early because you're only going to be told to return to your room and that's not going to make you too happy number 8 eat lunch and breakfast in the dining room some people just stick to the buffet the entire time on the ship and they don't know what they're missing now of course the scrambled eggs at the buffet are good but imagine having cooked to order eggs for the same price at a sit-down restaurant sitting in the dining room and eating lunch and breakfast is just so much more fun the menu is way more fancy and you just get some really delicious things there so don't miss out on that lunch and breakfast are definitely some of my favorite meals to get on the ship avoid the buffet even though it is good but not as good as what you find in the dining room number nine on the first day of your cruise check where your seat is in the dining room and make arrangements to change it if it doesn't please you if you arrive early to the ship you can see exactly where your tea will is request a window view if you can't you'll get to talk to the maitre d before anyone else can so arriving to the ship first is a very good thing number 10 book tours ahead of time tours are almost always refundable within 24 hours though it does depend from cruise line to cruise line and if you book it in advance that guarantees that you'll have a spot if you do decide you want to do that gondola ride in Venice and if you don't and you find something else to do just cancel it a day or two ahead of the tour departure date and you'll get your money back number 11 take your sail ensign card and your ID when getting off the ship now a lot of old-time cruisers have been very confused about this new policy a lot of ports do require that you have your ID with you in port to get back onto the ship so it does take getting used to if you've done a lot of cruises but I can guarantee you it's worth it to know that now so you don't have to run back to your cabin later to go look for your ID plus is just a good idea to always carry an ID on you at all times for identification purposes when you are in port and lastly number 12 do not wear camouflage if you are sailing in the Caribbean now I don't just have something against camouflage although you won't see me wearing it very often it's just that lots of Caribbean islands do have bans on wearing camouflage and you can receive a hefty fee for wearing it that is because their military wears camouflage and in-district ly prohibited for civilians to wear camouflage as well so save yourself this trouble and don't pack
