let's go offense let's go [Music] we are live from the Under Armor performance center in Owings Mills as the Baltimore Ravens hosts the Washington commanders for two days of joint practices before these two teams square off a Monday night for another preseason contest welcome into training camp live I'm Shelby lasso alongside Garrett Downing we'll be live for about the next two hours this morning for the first joint practice between the Ravens and the commanders Garrett what are the benefits of practicing with the team you're going to face in about six days well these are the dog days you know it's already hot this morning and as we made our way in here you can just kind of feel that this is this is when training camp really becomes a grind in a lot of ways and I think it's good to just look across the line and see another opponent see somebody who you haven't been going up against for the last few weeks of course you get that in the games but I think it's really beneficial to get in practice and I think that from a big picture level when you take a look at the way the NFL landscape has changed the way the preseason is preseason has changed used to be six games that that was four games that was three games of course the Ravens haven't played their entrenched starters like Lamar Jackson and Mark Andrews Ronnie Stanley those kind of guys and so these these joint practices really take on enhanced significance knowing that the preseason action uh you're not going to see a lot of the starters a lot of that work gets done during these joint sessions this has been something the Ravens have been doing for a while now it goes back years and they try to find a way to make this happen and I think that these two teams these head coaches have a lot of respect for each other and I think that you know that's something that's really important when you're doing these joint sessions you want two teams to be on the same page and certain that seems like that's the case and I know these guys are fired up and excited to get started here today well what's the format of today's practice and what are you expecting to see out there yeah basically right now if you're looking and you're saying okay I see Odell uh where's the commanders what's going on here so these guys start on different fields uh initially and then they do come together so they go through the warm-up portion of practice on their your own sides and then they all come together and then they're and then once they get together then you're going to start to see some of that work one-on-one drills seven on seven drills as you can see here some of the Commander's players are working their way over so uh and then even it's even split So eventually we're gonna get to a point where it's going to be Ravens offense first Commander's defense on one field and then flipped on the other side Commander's offense versus Ravens defense so we're gonna do our best to try to keep you informed of everything that's going on here show you the most exciting action but as you can see here two Fields you know full of players and we're gonna be bouncing back and forth between them and trying to show you as much as is happening out here uh during practice and these are some one-on-one drills here uh you got roquan Smith there you can see so that's kind of the format here roquan is ready to go no doubt about that he uh you know he at the end of practice last week some of the media members were like they got to put a they got to put roquan a different Jersey in front of roquan he's tired of hitting these guys I think he saw it on that play right there well we're seeing some 1v1 drills right now when it comes to these types of drills and even the full team offense versus the the defense what match-ups are you looking forward to I mean I think that you just look forward to ones versus ones I mean um one-on-one drills are exciting I don't mean specifically one-on-one drills I just mean you you get best first best um and with the intensity ramping up a little bit I mean I think that that's one of the things about these Joy practices is that the intensity definitely accelerates a little bit and John Harbaugh talked about that um yesterday you know he basically made the point that when you when you have this opportunity to go up against you know these guys um another team from there's there's more intensity and I think you saw it on that first rep from from roquon Smith um now we're going to take a look here we're taking a look here at some of the Interior guys in the trenches here o-line versus d-line and this is I think you know I know a lot of fans are excited to see receivers DBS and we all are but it's good to see these guys here at the trenches battling because this is where the physicality really kind of ramps up and you'll be able to see it on some of these drills here so I'll also be looking at the the rookies you know how do they hold up that was tavius Robinson there um going through a rep and so out of these young rookies tavius Robinson Caillou Kelly um of course Zay flowers how do they hold up going up against a new team um with you know increased tension increased physicality we got to see some of those rookies in action on Saturday the Ravens had their first preseason game which was a 20-19 win over the Philadelphia Eagles it expanded their streak to 24 straight pre-season wins dating back to 2016. talking about the rookies but who else stood out to you in that game yeah I mean I think um you know Zay flowers I thought had a really good debut which was encouraging you want to see your first round pick come out and start strong you know I think that there's a few other guys that that I thought really kind of stood out to me Daniel falele is someone who played every snap you know he's a young offensive lineman who they gave him a ton of work somebody who also played a ton as Daryl Worley you know so you got the second year play yeah second year player in full lately who I played every step on the offensive side and then Daryl Worley on the defensive style played every snap and um you know Worley if you haven't seen it we posted a clip yesterday we actually had it miked up and uh he says that John Harbaugh basically that he's going to end it and he did he came up with big plays late in that game so you got to see that full clip we've got it posted for you uh on our app our website Twitter account everywhere so make sure you go check that out um but yeah so I think that was cool to see he's playing safety um you know he's been a quarter um throughout most of his career but he's playing his views himself as a safety now and you think that's the best opportunity for him so he was another guy that stood out as a veteran player um there's an interesting screenshot to go inside kind of gets set up a little bit but I like the physicality of this drill right here yeah so we'll see I mean basically what we're looking for here is like this is just to kind of like this is just kind of revving the engines here now we're going to flip over um and look at some of the uh one-on-ones for um okay I guess that wasn't too exciting but you can you'll some of these reps you'll be able to see uh DB versus receiver or tight end uh versus linebacker for safety so Josh Johnson you see here nice rep there get open and you know I think that these one-on-one drills are kind of a fun thing to watch and vocalek there has a nice pass down the middle of the field we haven't seen Lamar Jackson he is out there we haven't seen him yet but we also didn't see him in the preseason game on Saturday we'll see him a lot today yes no surprise um perfect we're out there by Andrews man he just made that look too easy great route I think it went up and got it you can see he's our Andrews is already angry oh yeah we're five minutes into the practice it's during the one-on-one portion of practice uh and he's already getting physical and shrugging off the fenders and looks like he's playing with a chip on his shoulder but but like going back to what I said that's the physicality that you want to see in these practices and that you will see that intensity yes um here's Charlie Kohler and so you know not the best rep from him I kind of got tangled up there it's off to see if that was maybe a pi but um they got tangled up I think these are like I look at a guy like Charlie Kohler like this is an opportunity for him yeah um you know he had kind of an up and down game he put one on the turf um went out of bounds so it didn't hurt but certainly he doesn't want to do that and so like these these opportunities um are for a guy like Charlie Kohler for like Isaiah likely young players who want to get action this is a good opportunity for them in these joint practices yeah everybody okay Ben Mason is also an interesting guy to watch I mean he just he just ran that out right there you know this is a guy who's going to have opportunities here um you know Patrick Picard obviously been a pro bowl fullback and Ricard has been on the shelf for a little bit he is practicing again yeah we'll see how much he does here during these more intense practices here's Caillou Kelly going up you know let's say these These are good opportunities for some of these these young players we're just going back to Ben Mason and Patrick Picard you know Mason Mason has looked pretty good in these practices um he's even caught the ball out of the backfield a little bit so we'll see how he does in these joint sessions um but you know Patrick card is a dominant inline blocker he he can catch a little bit out of the backfield card's even working in a guard a little bit which is which is interesting um but as as these guys look for opportunities here uh Mason is somebody I think to watch in these joint practices as well as the rest of the preseason so kind of an under the radar guy who I think is competing for a spot on this team certainly on the practice squad um and you know I'll be watching him there's number eight right there there he is yeah going back to Pat Ricard he came off the pup list last week Rashad Bateman also came off last week the big news this week though was that JK Dobbins is back at practice that means all the players that the Ravens had on the pup list to start training camp yep are are back out here but seeing JK out there yesterday how good is it to have him back at practice especially now he has plenty of time before the Ravens first game learning this new offense yeah yeah and a couple just other little injury notes there you know James crochet didn't practice yesterday he's back out there today Tyler Huntley looks like he's not practicing uh he tweaked his hamstring in the Eagles game on Saturday so the Ravens are just going to be cautious with that he's out there walking around on the field it's not anything serious but with a hamstring you just play it safe um but yeah it looks seeing JK Dobbins back is great you know it was great yesterday we're looking at Lamar Jackson here and uh looks like that's Tyler Huntley he's got a tower but it looks like it's it's Snoop the two of those guys um when JK made his way out to practice Lamar Jackson created in a big high five and you could tell that he was excited and to have to have JK back out there and JK plays with energy enthusiasm excitement and I think that thought that came across certainly in his first practice and I'm sure that'll be the case today to be honest I don't know how much it'll be I'll be curious to see how much JK does here today um didn't do much yesterday I would be kind of surprised if they throw him out there like during full team drills and 11 on 11. you know Rashad Bateman's another one he's working his way back that Liz Frank is a super Serious injury so he's working his way back I don't know how much we're going to see him doing 11 on 11 7-7 that's not been something that we've seen yet um but and it would be kind of a it would be a big step up to do it in joint practices against another team um so but but maybe those guys get out there that's something that I'll be watching here over the course of this practice the other thing too just to mention we want to make sure that that fans know you can send us your questions yeah um we're going to try to get to those you know we're going to be live here for about two hours so we want to get to as many of those questions as we can over the course of the broadcast here as we show you everything that's happening if you're watching on YouTube if you're watching on Facebook we'll try to get to some of those questions so go ahead and leave your question in the comments and we'll try to get to those over the course of this practice see the quarterbacks here like we said we did not see Lamar Jackson in that first preseason game but we did see Josh Johnson Tyler Huntley and Anthony Brown what did you see out of those three yeah I mean I think the Ravens are trying to make it a quarterback competition um between Tyler Huntley uh and Josh Johnson in particular I mean I think those guys are had an opportunity here in these practices to try to uh you know to compete for that backup job behind Lamar and I think that Snoop has has taken the lead in that competition I mean I think Josh Johnson played pretty well but I think that Snoop came in and provided a spark to the offense he's done he's played in big games he's played a lot of football honestly for a backup quarterback so I think that Snoop may have the edge in that competition but the Ravens have been giving those guys reps and giving them opportunities and so this is another week where they have a chance to see if they if you know if if Josh Johnson can you know if snoop's not playing in practice right now Josh I still have the opportunity to take those those reps with the twos and we'll see what he can do with those and if he can make the most of that opportunity still seeing the quarterbacks warming up here see Todd Monken lean this new offense well fans were very excited to introduce our first guest in the show Ravens Legend and two-time Super Bowl champion Tory Smith Tory welcome to training camp practice and thanks so much for joining us yeah I missed y'all just a little bit I know it feels like it's game it feels like it's game day again we never owned 30 three songs that's a cool job you guys well when it's raining yeah I'll take it Tori you've been out here for a few training camp practices now what have you seen out of this team I see a lot of great energy but um I feel like I'm looking at the game from a completely different perspective now like this it's a Vibe and energy that you feel from a team the way they're executing the way they're responding went to down practices like I see a strong sense of leadership which is what you expect by co-tar ballet team but I'm loving what I'm seeing on this team the offense especially y'all know I love defense but my passion and those receivers look great everyone's finally back JK's back I'm excited about this offense and I think the fans will be too well you mentioned those receivers obviously one of your favorite topics this wide receiving course changed quite a bit since last season you had guys like Nelson Aguilar and Odell Beckham Jr draft say flowers how much will that do for Lamar Jackson's it's going to be huge you know I feel like we spent so much time last year talking about the receiving room and got someone just needing to step up and to make a play and I believe this room has that Talent now now with so many guys you expect you know respect to Eric to maybe add one guy maybe two it seemed like it's a whole revamp thing and guys who've been here in the past are it's going to be a tough battle for those last few spots but I think when you look at that offense and those receivers you have guys that can win one-on-one I like to say all the time you can't scheme up everything sometimes you just have to go win my guy is better than your guy I think last year that didn't happen enough but I'm confident based on what I've seen with this group and the plays that they've been able to make and how really they've been really comfortable in this offense they're going to go out there and make some plays and Lamar has some guys that he can just trust to go in all right so I'm gonna put you on the spot here so Harbaugh said during mini camp I think it was he was talking about this receiving Corps you might know where I'm going with this and he talked about the best receiver receiving course he's had here during his tenure and he pointed uh to the group it was you Steve Smith and Jacoby and 14. he said he got a picture in his house uh he said he's got the Harbaugh house yeah yeah it was like in the uh the barn areas just a second but he uh he said he's like that was maybe the best that was that was a really good group I also think the 12th group you know with you Bolden and Jacoby so how do you think this group Stacks up and what do you think was the best receiving core that you had when you were here man I think um this group has the potential to be as good as it wants to be right um I think nothing's ever said until it's done I think on paper it's a very good group um I think ultimate boils down to what do you do at the end of the season and how it counts out um the thing I loved about the unit my first two years with Anquan Boldin and it was Lee Evans before and then with Jacoby was that they had to respect everyone on the field and you can't just mention the receivers you had Dennis Pitta and then you had Ray Rice who was catching a million balls a year so it was our unit as a whole was very strong I don't think we had a thousand yard receiver but we didn't need one because the offense was so balanced and if someone needed to play you can go down through those seasons those years in any given game someone could take over yeah and that's what I love the most about that unit and I think this unit here I think they had that same feel yeah to be honest having pavement having Odell having enough having Zay who's going to be a an absolute problem um those guys can go and at any given point any given game they can be the ones that can take over so I'd like to say I think the best unit was probably the Super Bowl year with uh yeah with the ring on your face and I think it's easy to say that with the end result but I really do think that was probably the best because there was a good match of talent and our health lasted for the skill guys throughout That season so I would go with that group yeah interesting and just to keep uh fans surprised what's happening on the field this is the Special Teams portion of the practice um and so they're you know as we know special teams is valuable here in Baltimore uh John Harbaugh puts a big emphasis on that um and even the joint practices that that remains the case so just to stick on the receiver front a little bit longer Tori I want to get your take on Zay I mean I think that the uh the buzz is has certainly been building here in Baltimore um the hype train is kind of off has left the station and um even nationally I think there's a good amount of excitement around him you know he had he had the one catch or rush I guess technically it was in the game for one yard but he made a guy missed he saw the juke move and he drove two penalties drawing penalties was a forte of yours in your career um what do you what are your impressions of Zay and what he can bring as a young player man I love Zayn I think he's won his his mentality is that of a pro um he's built to compete it's the way he's been raised that's that's who he is that's the way he's worked you know I think he has an advantage of being a guy that's been trained um and been around Pros for years so it's not new to him to kind of be in an environment against other competitive receivers right he's thinking about a guy like Odell he's already seen him before yeah right before he played with him been around worked in those environments so um with gold feet down in Florida but I think uh for Zay his his quickness he's gonna have the opportunity to get the ball in different ways no he doesn't have to go out there he doesn't have to get 20 cats in the game right you don't have to overdo it but he's gonna play a great role in his offense he can play inside he can play outside he can take the top off the defenses but I think the biggest mismatch for him is going to be when he's in space yeah I mean he's about as quick as a cat this first one-on-one of the day and it's and his second one no one on Washington I don't I don't even think his jersey got dirty until he Dove to the ground right I think it's just the quickness is footwork it's amazing and just the way he plays the game it's smooth so I think he's gonna play a big role and he doesn't have to be the guy and I think that's the best thing so while everyone's building this hype train it's important to note that he doesn't have to be the guy yeah he just has to be himself and make make plays and find his role within his offense so I'm excited for him I can't wait and I think he's gonna have a big year so it looks like we're now doing some 11 on 11 work which is now we're getting into the fun stuff here here we go uh which is you know which is which is an exciting portion here I'm looking at the practice script here Tori it's all you know you're used to looking at these old practice scripts here so uh We've we're we've worked our way here until this is a first and second down this is a run Focus portion of practice um you know so that's what we're working on right here and we're going to get to see Justice Hill who I thought had a pretty good game in the preseason opener had a nice run right there what do you make of these these backs and what you've seen from Justice Hill man I think the talent's there you know I think JK came back on the field at the perfect time yeah yeah you know it's time to get out there getting the mix getting in shape before the season but I think they've done a great job of just having a stable of talent you know so many different guys and also there's no one back that plays the same yeah and I think having different flavors is is a really good thing and God they have when it's easy to kind of look at the room you're like hey there may not be a bunch of big names but all these guys they have three or four guys that have real experience and I think that's a huge Advantage for this team especially in this new offense look at the Shifting the movement added some flavor in there yeah that's what you're going to see a lot of in first and second down situations be a lot of runs but then you also get your plaction offense going just to get a habit there so I wouldn't be surprised to see a shot come in there as soon as they continue to work the offense it's you know as they get in the Huddle here we didn't ask you about Aguilar really yeah and he's someone you know well um and he's like he's been kind of a he surprised me with how good he's been since he's arrived here he's shown some real potential he's making every catch he's got good speed he carries himself like a pro won a Super Bowl um you know so he knows what that takes and there's not too many guys you know on the scene that have done that him and Odell are two of them um is that Nelson uh is that I was going to say I would almost heat it up perfect um what do you think of of Nelson and what he can do I think Nelson's role in this team is going to be huge not necessarily just being on the field but being like a great leader Nelson has been through a lot as a pro yeah I was with him in Philadelphia when we won the Super Bowl there and he just probably works hard he does all the right things so for someone like Zay and Bateman who are younger but they're learning how to be the best Pros he's a great guy to have around the highs and the lows he's experienced it he's a first-round draft pick right so he's been in their shoes um the expectations they weren't there right away but he's since done some great things in living up to it and being a Super Bowl champion making big time plays so for him he could play inside and outside um I used to say that Nelson had the best version of speed and quickness that I saw in a receiver until I met another guy that's on the other side of the field now and Curtis Samuel interesting with Washington so um Nelly he can play inside of the outside you just have to touch off the line as well and he can make some plays so he's going to be a great addition again to this offense you don't have to have guys fans fall in love with the thousand yard receiver you don't have to have that it's nice yeah if someone goes over but you don't have to have that you have a lot of guys that can do a lot of different things he's also a guy you can hand the ball up too right so giving coach the guys that can do a little bit of everything is going to be huge for this offense great job it was a great route Tyler Wallace had the touchdown in the game and John Harbaugh said he's had a really good cam um he's basically competing for that sick you know your top five receivers in Zay O'Dell Bateman through Renee Nelson that's your five so then it's a competition for six so they keep six assume they're gonna keep six and it's basically Thailand crochet shimmar Bridges but Thailand you know he had that touchdown in the game the other night and you know nice route there all right and the key to the sixth spot is yes you have to flash on offense because if someone goes down you are the next person up but you really need to be a special teams Ace yeah and that's really what that boils down to so that last period that we just watched is going to determine who's gonna get that last spot who's the guy that you can trust to be a Gunner and also the sixth spot you're not just competing against the other receivers you're competing to make sure they don't need to carry another DB so you're gonna have to make sure on special teams you're able to do the things that the defensive bass can do so that they don't have to carry another one and that's just the part of the numbers game when you're competing on the back end and anyone that knows that you're going to wear purple and black you better know how to play special teams and that's going to be your way to make the team and Tyler's done a great job he's had a great Camp he also had a solid spring too so there's no surprise that he's really shining right now yeah another first round pick what is it's five first round picks in this receiving room right now yeah the quad I remember when he first came out I just came at bomberitos in Florida you try with every receiver in the NFL it helps when you're in Miami a lot of guys like to go to Miami and train so literally Odell I've seen all of them yeah uh long before they were Ravens you know working out down there but uh you know he's a guy that's worked hard I really learned how to be a pro and you know he he's a he's a he's a great player you know when he's healthy he's just in a really deep office situation right now with this group that's really oh my goodness look at the bursts so fast jeez well this has been he was one of the Darlings of the preseason opener and he's competing here this is Keaton Mitchell undrafted rookie obviously the Ravens have a great history of Finding Diamonds in the Rough as undrafted rookies you know his Hallmark characteristic is his speed we saw it right there he's got that burst that preseason game look really good too and that first can't teach it yeah he had his dad plays safety on a Super Bowl yeah yep I think that's the coolest thing ever it also shows that a lot of these guys guys who've been on who've been around they think about this the Bugatti he's been around and yeah he was there with his dad and now his sons on the team yep it's pretty crazy yeah it is crazy I mean Mitchell like that it's a crowded backfield especially now JK Davis is back on the field I don't know if it's going to necessarily be a slot for him on the 53 but he's trying to make the case you know um and that's that's part of what these young guys try to do it's like you look at that backfield JK Gus and Justice are there they brought in Melvin Gordon a veteran um who I thought looked pretty good in the preseason opener he catches the ball nicely out of the backfield too and they keep Mitchell's got that burst he had a touchdown called back but um he's competing yeah he's competing and he's going to the Special Teams as well yeah well you can beat out one of those vets if you have the ability to play special teams because he makes some noise out of the backfield in a bunch of different ways then getting that speed you got to have different flavors he's different than Gus and JK not calling those guys slow but he's a little more Twitchy of a back and to have that kind of different mix more like justice yeah it kind of matches up a little bit there so that battle is going to be very interesting and also it's important to note that when you had the opportunity to play in a special in in the real preseason games a lot of the starters aren't playing anymore yep and the guy all these young guys are going to have the opportunity to get reps you're not just competing to make this roster now you're auditioning for everyone else that's one of the beautiful things about the Vets not playing is that younger guys really get the opportunity to showcase what they have and you show a burst like that that pops out on film and other coaches and teams are going to notice as well [Music] so I'm just curious in these practices you've done them in your career you did them San Francisco right against Sanford who else are you doing yeah San Francisco the San Francisco practice here yep was probably was one of the reasons they signed me in a free agency man we should have done those practices cheap scouting right the opportunity to see how someone moves on a day-to-day basis see the film see how they're going around and I remember actually talking to them about it when I signed the free agent they remember it I remember I actually had spoke to the GM um in passing he was with Ozzy when uh I was just walking by one day and one of those practices talked to him then he was like yeah man you did a really good job at practice he loved how you work and how you're moving so hopefully in the next couple of weeks when those commanders over there are wearing purple and black but I'm gonna wish that the long-haired guy on the commander side comes over to the dark side where what portion here Shelby were okay all right we just it's uh kind of the first and now we're moving there we go seven so this is obviously drill for the fans at home um there's no life is pretty easy um but you get to see how move and how they can get open yep um you need to work on a passing game you have to be disciplined too to make sure they're not just cheating so you do have DBS that are kind of cheat to drill because they know it's no opportunity to run so as a receiver yes it is more built to get tackled you know things are going to be off but you have the opportunity to really go out and compete and work on your game understanding that the pass is coming so it's harder to run around when they know you're going to pass the ball so it's great to see the timeline offense during this period yeah we're back we'll work to get that back yeah well Tori we've talked a lot about this offense but Todd monkin is now at the home of this offense what have you seen from him and what do you think this offense will look like this year uh first things this is leadership right I think that means more than people really realize the thing you can it's one thing to call a play and just think it's going to roll and it works and everyone's all happy but I think when you're really leading the guys and and really buying then they're buying into what you're saying I think that means a lot more and those were those are the keys to a great team but also a great offensive unit but I think there's a lot of I love the vertical element of it I love its creativity as you saw gods are moving all over the place when you force the other team to communicate it leads to some real problems and um leading one mistake now you're gonna see guys running wide open simply because of skin and I love what they're doing I think it's going to be fun I think Lamar is going to have his best here yet as a passer and it's going to be fun to watch when you like watch these drills or when you're out here at practice like you've been can you just tell it like how different does it look I mean I don't want to get in trouble with Coach Harbaugh but you can see it but you can see um it's just a difference man I think as much as it is a skin difference the players are excited yeah yeah right and I think I think that means more than anything else they're excited about what they're being taught what they have the opportunity to run right that was just something to go out there and execute I like to say all the time football's not rocket science right football's football slanted slam the post supposed goes to go but at the end of the day if you love what the scheme is and you love and you feel like you have an opportunity to go out there and win each and every time I mean that's huge for the offense as a player who's gone to other teams and had to learn new offenses what are the keys to kind of getting that down and learning a brand new playbook and a new system it's really just about matching your language right a lot of offense is the same right uh and I remember my rookie Camp which I had probably one of the top five worst rookie camps in the history of football uh coming out the lockout and coming in um I was you got to learn to match your terminology I was mixing up my University of Maryland terminology with our terminology here in in Baltimore because we have some of the same words but they meant different things and so you have to be able to really study and make sure that you're able to convert it now to my advantage I learned What's called the number system or each number had a route so I could remember a play and if a play is called I'm making this up Apple I'm able to know Apple was bird in our Maryland offense and so you got to be able to kind of convert your languages to what the play is and know what your route is and it's one of those things where you do need a time to study it doesn't have happen overnight yeah right you can't show up and just get it right it takes time it takes reps and I think the the guys now I think they're really brought in especially with Lamar being there in time with Odell having all having all the guys back they've really been working hard to get this offense down when you're a young player and you have a rough start to camp and like you're for you I mean you were a local guy so there's probably even enhanced expectations on you and played at Maryland your second round pick and um how do you how do you how did you handle that and how did you like overcome that oh man it was it was tough you know I'm not going to sit there and live looking back I realized and I always tell all the young guys I'm like it was more the expectations that I placed on myself than what was there in your mind I was like man all these people saw what I was doing in Maryland I got to be ready to do that right away and I truly believe that had I had an off season I wouldn't have been in that situation yeah um because I had four weeks to be ready to play the Pittsburgh Steelers or whatever it was yeah so it was like I I was my head was spinning yeah but when I actually had my first start a couple weeks after that you know well everything was fine right so it's one of those things where it does take time to just get comfortable and it's one of those things where again I don't I wouldn't wish it any differently right because I was throwing it to the fire um I failed right but at the same time I had to remember who I was and I think just the confidence aspect of it and really knowing there's going to be highs and lows um you just got to go and continue to work and that's something that really you know made it I think it made me a better player but also a better person just consistently going through the fire and overcoming it and you know making sure I didn't learn to doubt myself I think it's an interesting point like I just saw Rashad Bateman walking and he's not going through these drills he didn't have his helmet on he's still working his way back like we mentioned previously he is he is activated off the pump list he is practicing but it's a ramp up period for him I mean it's a Liz Frank injury super Serious injury to come back from so he's still working his way back uh to full strength so they're not putting him out here during these seven on seven and Eleven on 11 drills that's coming but it's not there yet but you know Bateman's a guy who uh first round pick has flashed his really only issue it's it's been Health insane on the field but still as a player who has big expectations and is a super confident guy when you don't have the type of success your first two seasons that you want and expect to have you can that can take a toll um and you you can feel that and so you know so how do you how does how does a guy like a Bateman kind of shake that off and come back from that and I still think he's gonna has the potential to have a really good season but you know he's just he's got to do it he does you know I think with Bateman is it's it's a kind of a mental thing there too as well right um your fans complaining about the receivers and no one wants to hear all right I'll tell people all the time they're like you guys are Pros you got to do this I don't know a single person alive that likes to hear how bad they are or how bad their family is yeah yeah or how bad their brothers are right that's just not how it works and so I think you kind of hear that noise and then you're hurt and you know what your kid will love and you know what you've been able to prove but now you're getting hurt you have two injuries that you can't control that you have fans saying negative things right those things kind of pile into your head and you have to remind yourself like it doesn't matter yeah right it's so hard the competitor in you is like man I want to prove everybody wrong then it's like folks don't matter like be who you are get healthy control that and it's going to make plays because now there's real competition there so you have to be on your game there are other guys in that room that can go yeah and so you have to come back and you have to be the best version of yourself when you do it I think he will I think he's a pro I think he's been working until uh and I think he has the potential to be a star I hope you're right I think he does I mean I think you know I think you could have a really big season I also I also like the fact that it's kind of like we were talking about earlier like he doesn't have to be the guy this year like last year there's a lot on his shoulders a lot of eggs were in the Rashad Bateman basket and he got hurt but this year when you have Odell and you have Nelson you have Zay Duvernay stepped up last year like you have these guys around him of course the tight ends there's just not as much pressure on him to go out there and perform and I think that's a good thing and I think you go out there and play really well so here we go this is this is first team offense here at the 707 drill we'll see where Lamar goes with the football pushing it up the field there and that is Justice Hill I think yeah Justice Hill is he split out wide on that yeah I wasn't sure if he was what I wanted to begin with but he's got good hands very speed too yeah I are we sleeping on Justice Hill a little bit going into this year I might just or am I reading a lot into a preseason game and what I'm seeing here in practice what do you guys think he's been consistent that's who he that play right there is who he is yeah he's always Sunburst and he's a year removed from his injury yeah so he's looking better right now than he even than he did like you know last year coming back so oh the sun's out guys the sun is in a different position than he's used to because the Ravens usually practice in the afternoon so we'll say that was the reason yeah that was a that was a great spot with the ball right there great read and timing too um by Lamar there but I think you know when you talk about Justice he has the ability to do everything man he's a guy that if he's not on this team he will play somewhere else yeah he will get picked up I think he's a pro I think he can do everything and he's a great he's a great fitness system and you see about what they're asking him to do oh right in back in the helmet you see about what they're asking him to do you know he's doing a great job of going and catching the ball in the passing game and you can't have enough of those guys that are around you know that was a manual Forbes there rookie uh cornerback for Washington and he was a guy who was linked to Baltimore during the pre-draft process a little bit as Ravens yeah a lot of talk basically Corner receiver probably the top two positions um and Washington ended up taking him early and then had a nice play there to break up that pass to Odell hit him in the back of the helmet but you know I think he's a guy that Raven Sands will be curious to watch his career unfold just because of the connection that he had to Baltimore during the pre-draft process and and ends up in making a pass break up there on Odell and he's having a solid Camp down there as well too his strength is his length long arms he's a lean guy yeah a good feeling just a little like yeah a little lightness behind like my grandma says um but I think once he gains some weight he's gonna be fine but you can see as a competitive nature you can see he's up for it you saw him already barking with Odell right like I mean this is a rookie like he wants to prove that he belongs and oh there's a guy he watched play in middle school which makes Odell sound oh right but you know it's like one of those things where you know you got to go you got to bring it each and every day um as a young guy he's working and it's going to be fun to watch these guys compete nice to see Charlie Kohler make a nice catch there like I like his potential I think that he's got to put it all together um seems like he's coming up a little sore from that one um but like I like his potential like I said he put one on the turf in Saturday's game which I know he was doesn't want to do but the guy is Big his eyes he's big yeah he's really big There's an opportunity there you know Josh Oliver was a player at tight end last year who we didn't spend a ton of time talking about but then he went and got a nice contract uh with in with Minnesota in the off season so there's a role there for an inline blocker Charlie Kohler's not known for his blocking ability but he he added some weight this off season to put himself in better position for that type of a job um and uh and and he's got an opportunity there if he can you know stay healthy he basically misses rookie season because of Health but if he could stay healthy if you can be consistent if he can hold up against some of the pass rush that he's going to see and that in that walking roll then I think that there's going to be a role for him and you know I'm he's one of the guys that I've been watching closely this that's hiding room is huge it is when I walk by I'm like my goodness yeah it makes me feel tiny I know and it's a it's deep I mean like we all liked Isaiah likely um last year and the potential that he showed and I you know like I said I just talked about Kohler and of course Mark Andrews leading the way like he's a beast you know Mark's one of the best in the game so if they're huge physically and they have a lot of potential a lot of talent Tori last question for you maybe uh untold story or uh or a memory from training camp that stands out to you uh which one the one I'm trying to cam sucked which one are you gonna go are you gonna go old man here and talk about back in your day your two-day practices I came in right on the edge of it my favorite training Castle it had to be for my rookie I mean I think it's just uh you know one of those moments first of all it's like hey you're you're in the NFL right um I didn't I didn't know how I didn't know where what field one like how are you going to tell me where where we are on the field and we only got three and y'all got different numbers I don't know what we're talking about here but just getting lined up I'll never forget when coach I was standing back and my coach sent me out there with the ones um coach Hustler I was looking around like me like what the ones and so you line up for the first time and you talk to check the coverage I'm reading say pizza and there's that read and I'm checking the linebackers there's Ray Lewis and I'm looking at him there's Terrell Suggs and I'm looking I'm like this is crazy like like you know I'm lined up against guys who you know I've been watching for some years since I was a kid and I was a really special moment I'm glad that they're Brothers now and my fan cap is off but um you know to be a young guy and stepping on the field and scanning and seeing guys that literally you've been watching since you were a kid and playing video games with them it was pretty it's special to to step on that field with them guys yeah iron sharpens iron yeah absolutely yeah I think it's cool too and I think that you know you see that um I've I've noticed it a little bit in the camp this year I always remember in Ray and Ed's career like when they would when they would show up for mini camp or training camp because they didn't really do the offseason stuff at least by the time I got here he's gonna say no you got here they didn't do the voluntary stuff but they showed up I think everybody was kind of like you just said like a little bit like wide-eyed and like wow that's Ray Lewis I said read and um you think there's elements of that too with with Lamar with Odell you know that like and and I think that um you feel that and I felt that at training camp this year and it's been um it's been exciting there's a different type of energy man like when you see the Vets come because I mean guys are playing together but you gotta think some of these rookies I mean it's just the the time Gap right like even for the mall Lamar is not that old this is one year what six six or six right but you're six to a rookie coming in yeah like they were depending on when they left for the league they could have been earlier early high school or before that I mean it's great yeah so like that time Gap you don't realize it but it's real when some of these guys like Chase young I saw Chase young um ended banquet uh but he was at Ohio State and I'm walking by and he was like yo I used to watch it when I was a kid and I'm like bro I'm not that old I'm not that old because I was in Middle School and we had the locks I'm like dang dude like time kind of goes so it's pretty crazy to be on the opposite side of it yeah well Tori thank you so much for your time and enjoy the rest of training camp in Jersey look forward to working together again this year yeah we'll be back with pregame live this year and yeah looking forward to it be fun getting the squad back baltimoreravens.com ctk and start your season with a flock party welcome back to training camp live we just wrapped up with Tori Smith and Garrett where are we at now in today's practice yeah this is an install portion of practice so if you're saying hey I don't see any commanders where are they at it's supposed to be joint practices well this is a portion where they split uh they go on their individual fields and this is an install portion of practice all the guys out there in Jersey pennies those are all coaches um and so this is just install uh where you you know they make sure that they have a good grasp of the offense um defense is doing the same thing and commanders are as well so they split they're going to come back together here they're going to be back together soon and that's we're going to get more of that 11 on 11 work we've only seen a little bit of 11 on 11 work but that's coming up soon and that's where things kind of you know again the excitement ramps up a little bit during that portion and uh there's more of that on the way so stay tuned because we're going to get to that and that's always fun what are the position battles throughout training camp that we've talked about was left guard yeah and I think you know when training camp started it was the rookie sixth round pick Salah it was veteran John Simpson and it was you know Ben Cleveland and I think that first preseason game on Saturday was telling because it was really just Salah and John Simpson and Ben Cleveland was more rotating between right tackle and right guards so where do you see that how is that position battle kind of transformed throughout training well it seems like it's going to be John Simpson or or Salah and um you know right now I'm guessing if the season started today it would probably be John Simpson right he has the experience I mean he's not like a 10-year vet but he started games uh in the league and saw it was a late round draft pick so they're working on some QV snake stuff here um but um you know they've they've but Simpson has done it he has the experience and I think that they really are excited about Solace potential you see him working in now with the twos he's number 71 there but he's a six round pick you know and I think that he has size he has physical ability um and there that's enticing and I think that he held up pretty well um at times he the way the Ravens did it is basically the start Camp saw got the Reps of the ones for the first week and a half and then they switched it and now Simpson is getting the Reps at the ends I also don't think it's out of the question that the Ravens could go into the season and say all right we're going to go with John Simpson as the starter but we're still going to give uh Salah 15 reps a game yeah they've done that in the past where they've had a bit of a rotation now usually that's been because of injuries or guys on a pitch count um but I think that that possibility exists too because they've got confidence in him they think he could be a good player and they think you develop now Big Ben Cleveland is walking right through the camera screen right now he's been working that the right side Uh Kevin zeit was going to be your starting Right Guard but you know Ben Cleveland is a guy who I know a lot of fans have asked about um basically what the coaches have said you know Joe D off his line coach said recently basically it's just consistency he needs to be more consistent to get that opportunity so they're working him at the right side and really that left guard spot like you said is between John Simpson and Sala right now and uh you know we'll see how Cleveland does over the course of the preseason game he's competing for a role here and uh you know I think that these next few weeks are going to be really big for him yeah and we're still in you know team install portion of practice here this is not the uh they're gonna come together soon here with the commanders um you know and I think that in general when you're looking at these practices I think that the offensive line defensive line competitions are definitely ones to watch um that's where like these the physical nature practices becomes more apparent and um I think that that is you know that is part of the value of these practices that you have more physical intense uh sessions and like this is a chance going back to solid like if he goes out there and plays great here then he'll he'll have an opportunity to earn himself more reps with the ones same goes for John Sims he can solidify himself as that starting left guard um if he looks great out here in these practices and Washington has a good defensive front now they've got some they've got some studs on that defensive front first round picks so this is a good test for those guys in the trenches and I'll be excited to see once they get back on there for some more 11 on 11 work fans were now joined by Baltimore Ravens Ryan mink mink what have you seen so far in today's first joint practice with the commanders say flowers put on a show I mean the very first uh rep of ones I'm sure you probably have talked about I mean just dusted Emmanuel Forbes another first round pick the cornerback I mean yeah I have the pleasure of having my cousin and his son out here and I was sitting with them and they were just like I've seen enough I mean the hype is real oh the hype is real yeah I mean three straight on ones that he got all three reps just awesome reps got totally held on one just Jersey tugged and makes a diving catch the other one his cutback ability is just ridiculous um he was like just totally uh perpendicular to the field I mean it looked like you know Ray Rice uh you knows what was what'd they call that where he would pick grass they used to have a special name for that play I don't remember that one I can't I can't remember what they called it but it I mean it was just totally perpendicular to the ground it's pretty fun to watch so just real quick here now we're back to 11 on 11 work here so we can see some of that competition the trash is and now they're airing it out down the field and they play to Odell Beckham down the field that's exactly one of the reasons the Ravens brought him here I mean he can make those type of dynamic plays and the Ravens are excited about that potential so they're definitely from Mardel Odell's been looking for that one in seven on sevens uh they gave him one uh throw his little short he tried to go up and over Emmanuel Forbes he couldn't quite bring it in but uh and there's a little little conversation after that one a little drawing a little bit he's been looking for that one I think you know Lamar's trying to kind of dial in that deep ball a little bit there's been in the last uh sevens seven on seven drill overshot Mark Andrews on one left it a little short to Odell the one one too deep for Zay that was a kind of a weird one it almost looked like Zay could have accelerated under that one but misjudged it yeah it was tough to tell from here Tori drugs maybe got sun in his eyes yeah but it seemed like yeah he didn't hit it it didn't hit his hands didn't hit his hands and he he and he seemed like he could have hit another gear to kind of accelerate under it just seemed like he maybe did lose it in the sun he misjudged it yeah but yeah Odell's uh been looking for that one he had the one-hander earlier so we already saw saw one of those from Odell but uh yeah this is fun I mean I was I was uh during 707's watching in the trenches a little bit you know it's something that it hasn't been talked about a lot is the Ravens backup center competition okay now we're getting into the week now we're getting in the weeds I thought Sam mustafer had some nice blocks in there that was holding his own uh yeah I mean that's that's when you're when you're filling out your 53-man roster predictions if you haven't done so yet make sure you go on the website and do that yeah pick the team contest go ahead and do that there's a little plug for y'all um but that's that's a spot that's like one of the question marks when you're kind of filling in the o line who gets one of those last spots at the backup center job Tristan colon held that job uh here the past couple few years and now he's in New York so um Sam mustafer is a name to watch yeah the Ron Payne I'll tell you what for Washington that dude is ridiculous yeah he looks like an edge rusher in the middle of the line I mean oh my God he got zeitler on one um oh yeah give him the flag give Mark that flag give it to him he wants it hi it's like I'm gonna give it to him you gotta give him that yeah Marcus Mark brings energy Mark has been yeah intensity to every practice but you know it was like the very first five minutes during one-on-one drills and he was already drawing and seemed a little bit edgy yeah for sure yeah well and he had that one that you got wide open down the seam and you know it went over his head you know I'm sure he wanted that one too I mean the first pass of elevens who does it go to Mark Andrews yeah exactly so Mark will be all right yeah all right here we go it looked like yeah it looked like they were some moving on the on the line there I'm not sure who jumped but it seemed like it was a little bit disjointed there you know he's had a a pretty nice practice as Justice Hill yeah I agree we talked yeah we had a good conversation with Tori Smith about him and yeah nice outside run really explosive I mean blocked up pretty well too on the edge uh Keith Mitchell had a nice outside run they had some good blocking on the edge and then Justice Hill with that long catch on the wheel route down the sideline yeah Justice is an interesting guy I do think the Ravens running backs you know when you you talk to them they really do talk about how they all have different skill sets and and they feel like they have the deepest room in the league I looked at all the other depth charts yeah it was I looked at all the other depth charts around the league at running back you know I have to do a little fantasy football research too so it's kind of too too pronged attack there um and they might have a case they have a solid case for the Ravens having the deepest running back uh room in the league Eagles are pretty good too as we saw uh Saturday night but yeah Justice is I mean his ability to explode outside he made some plays last year in the regular season too and his abilities as a receiver I think he's going to get a slice of the pie for sure on offense this year yeah it's like I I think you I think he will too and if you're tuning in and you want to wear JK Dobbins you know he he is activated from the pup list uh he was activated yesterday but there's a ramp up period so he's not going through 11 on 11 jokes he wasn't even yeah neither is Bateman he is out he was he's out there yeah um but he was he's not going through full contact drills as he's you know just in his second practice so yeah um season's a month away he'll be out there doing full team stuff soon enough but uh still at ramp up Perry for JK right now oh yeah Treadwell look at him getting wide open yeah Treadwell um you know we mentioned him earlier former first round pick Ravens are competing have a competition there for that six receiver spot Talon Wallace had the touchdown uh in the game on Saturday tread Will's another guy who's competing for that spot um you know I think that I think the Tylenol Wallace probably has the edge on that spot right now but you know he's he's somebody who's in the mix competing for a role well Treadwell's getting some reps out there at Gunner you know on punt coverage so that's important for him if he's going to beat out Tyler Wallace sounds pretty good special teams player um and really they that looks like probably a sack uh really that's what oftentimes that receiver plays Gunner yeah and and that's a pretty you know on punt coverage that's that's one of the bigger responsibilities on special teams one of the more key players um so whoever is is best for that job Justice Hill is a really good Gunner too that's part of the reason why the Ravens resigned him yep um and and I think that is one if when you're sizing up the number six wide receiver competition that's probably the most important uh aspect of that battle and Talon Wallace is pretty darn good at it yeah we talked about that with Tori too you make this team on specialties were those undrafted guys and for some of those late round rookies I mean I remember Chuck Smith or Chuck Clark talking about that when when he was here and saying I was in that DB room and just knew if I was going to make this team I had to do it on special teams and that's what he did and have her card doing the same thing so yeah I think fans don't understand how important that is oh for sure yeah I mean special teams it's a John Harbaugh team here you know special teams are that's the name of the game and so no surprise that really when you're when you're putting together your 53-man roster predictions for you pick the team once again uh that's what the last you know three four roster spots I mean when you talk about Del Sean Phillips does he make the team at inside linebacker all right you know special teams right um there's a number of spots it's usually that last running back you can Factor the tight ends in there somewhat um some of those inside linebackers are key special teams players cornerback you know cave hunts came on Seymour that's part of what's gotten him on the team past couple years special teams and so um you know camons he's having a good camp at corner he's playing well in defense and considering the Ravens depth issues you know that's been a really good thing so you definitely want to factor in special teams when picking your roster yeah we're now seeing the Ravens defense up against the Commander's offense yeah we've been focusing on Amazing yeah I've been watching the other way around have we picked off Sam hallani uh well we've had we've been mostly tuned into the uh offense also yeah oh there we go nice pvu here with Lucian I love the energy that the defense brings whenever a guy makes a play you got you know especially if it's like a you know second and third team guy all the all the starters run out and celebrate it um so yeah we've been mostly keyed in on the offensive side you're not a chance to see the defense in action here speaking of celebrations did you guys see the celebration when Brent Urban had the deflected pass on Saturday against the Eagles the whole sideline did Brent celebration yeah it's pretty great and can we get a camera on Shelby she'll do it it's really the best celebration on the team right now I have to say I I that's my that's where my vote goes okay and it's really been kind of work what else is in the mix I know yeah that's why I was sharing fingers does anybody have a signature thing I I'm not sure if there is really that I can think of what's zay's celebration gonna be all I know is we're going to see a lot of it whatever it is yeah I would agree with that um I don't know if there is if there's other guys that have like a signature obj did that dance with the kid yeah that's the Baltimore thanks but I don't know if he that one gear I can't do that one I'm gonna leave that I believe that's obj and George I believe that's obj and George they got that one covered so now we got some of the first team defenses out there it looks like on the field uh maybe a second team um and so we'll go through this yes okay okay well no this is this is a special team okay now we're moving special teams portion here yep how about Justin Tucker hit the six yarder making the Chip Shot that was pretty sweet that thing could have been good from dare I say 67. yeah I think so had room to spare yeah room to spare yeah it cannot have been straighter yep yeah I mean it was that that was his good of a kick as you're gonna find well on the flip side you know uh Eagles kicker miss one yeah we free the nugs nugs you know me we know you got your nuggets yeah um of yeah that Justin Tucker I mean we're gonna have him on the lounge actually uh for an interview tomorrow so stay tuned for that one coming out Thursday which is episode 500 by the way yes wow episode 500 episodes of the lounge pretty awesome yeah that's a lot of mink and Garrett yeah it is maybe you go back and listen to all 500 yeah go back to the beginning well the fun thing is that Justin Tucker was our very first guest yeah and now he's going to Be Our Guest for number 500. I'm sure I mean it's one of the biggest honors of his career honestly so I think that's main thing is that this is what started his career oh for sure that was the original podcast Bob he was he was just a guy and then he came on the lounge and then he became the best kicker in NFL history and he owes it all to us so we're bringing him back on the lounge to give him the opportunity to thank us for all this success that reminds me I gotta pick up the cake later yes today we got to have the the celebratory cake um it just in all seriousness with Justin like it's it's pretty remarkable like of course his success but he doesn't seem to be like he's getting his 12th season now um and he doesn't seem to be wearing down at all 11 season like he doesn't seem to be slowing down at all obviously from the his leg strength is is perfectly fine maybe getting stronger um and I what always impresses me about him like you just see his routine here like he is a routine oriented he takes things very seriously if you're ever around him on game days like he's serious like I know he jokes around he does the dances and stuff but like the preparation before every kick um during like leading up to them it is serious Shelby will be down there on the on the sidelines during games and you know how serious he is like oh yeah going through his routine you don't want it you don't want to be in the wrong place nope make sure you're not around him make sure no one's around him he wants his yeah he wants he's focused yeah and I think that's one of the reasons uh that he's been as good as he has been and I think I think that type of account of laser focus um there's a lot of people that could learn from that yeah for sure it kind of helped instill that too I think is is kind of the I don't know that people realize how big of a leader Sam Cook has been in that room and Sam was also a guy who was constantly chasing Perfection and I think he was a mentor for Justin early on especially in his career and you know I mean Tucker's been in the league like you said for over a decade now so you know he's had his ways for a long time but I think early in his career you know here here he was this young buck you know this super confident goofy guy and I think Sam took him under his wing and kind of helped show him how you know he Ultra talented obviously and showed him you know how how it is to be a pro and to always be chasing Perfection and that's what we've seen from Justin Tucker and gosh he's been pretty close to Perfection yeah still lays out his uniform pre-game on the floor yep lays out the whole thing looks like a like a skeleton a skeleton I don't know what you would call it yeah uh on the floor beforehand so you got to get that right which I think we got from Deion Sanders right I believe that's correct yes we got a fan question that usually will bring in some competition for Tucker in training camp even though he's the goat I wouldn't call it competition so let him rest a little bit but the Ravens haven't done that yet this year do you think there's a reason why do you think that might be something I know last preseason I don't think we signed that other kicker until right before the last preseason game I mean yeah I'd say tucker a break yeah part of the reason is that they've just had injuries at corner so as you've seen they added two cornerbacks the past yesterday they had a two guys claimed one off labors and then signed another defensive back you know some of the depth I think uh has the set stated needing those roster spots for other positions so that's that's probably why you know even though you have 90 men on the roster right now Eric De Costa and crew would probably be like oh my gosh we were so tight we need you know we need two more spots I could use three more spots yeah um I would imagine that at some point during Camp especially as we get to you know maybe before the third preseason game or whatnot maybe they bring somebody in but but maybe not if they don't have the flexibility the other benefit is that Jordan Stout uh you know he was a kicker he did it all he did it all in college so he can kick field goals and really kind of give Justin the day off and and he gets a little extra practice kicking field goals now you want to you don't want you I gotta save his life leg for punting too but um yeah it's a little extra work as the backup kicker so we just talked about special teams but now we're getting back into 11 on 11 stuff and this is what we all really want to see I mean this is the full go this is ones I think it looks like it's the ones on the Washington side as well from what I can tell um but yeah this first team offense so we'll get a chance to see these guys in action bootleg oh pull it with a little pop there yeah it's not really full it's not full full go obviously we're not tackling out here but um it's basically full go up until the tackling portion yes yeah then it's it's thud yeah yeah this is uh you know it's interesting Ben Mason you know still gets a lot of the kind of if you're running a route he still gets that and Pat ricard's really block her I mean we haven't really seen Pat Ricard I saw him run around seven on seven so I was like oh there he is running around you know that that aspect of Pat scheme seems to kind of be in the rear view mirror I expect that he's going to be and he's still working his way back to full strength too right that's true here's Justin Hill I mean we talked about his shiftiness and ability yeah you see it there I mean he's got good bursts good backside Vision there yeah to see that hole open up on the back side I think we might be sleeping on Justice just a little bit I mean look I think JK doppins is gonna have a great season talked about and he feels like this is going to be his best year yeah how do you feed everybody is it's gonna be tough yeah I think um I mean I think JK is probably gonna be the leading rusher but I I don't necessarily I do not think that it's he's there's a wide gap between him and everybody else I think Gus is going to get a heavy workload and what I've seen from Justice Hill he's going to deserve plenty carries as well let me step up oh he's going dude Mark Andrew's big play down the field I mean Lamar to mark that is so automatic and Mark just plays with this chip and this intensity and when you throw it up you feel pretty good about his ability to bring it down that reminded me so much of the play deep down the field against Cleveland remember when they he they got flagged for a DPI and he caught it with one arm oh yeah way down the field that was a couple couple years ago yep just just and then play and that play also just showed the way they're always in sync like there's pressure on Lamar he kind of rolls out a little bit and he just throws it up to Mark and Mark comes down with the big player well I almost said when he threw it I when mink was like oh he's going deep I almost said Mark Andrews must be somewhere down there oh oh we got some punches being thrown yeah a little scuffle here as you can see these things uh during these practices I mean look it's a little chippy it's it's chippy it can be intense during these practices um and that's one of the things that you know can happen um and I'm sure they're gonna you know they're gonna separate pretty quickly and be back out there back at work but that can happen during these practices it's one thing that honestly the Ravens have had a lot of joint practices and it hasn't happened very much and and usually I mean sometimes you have a little scuff when it gets broken up pretty darn quickly same thing happens sometimes in just ravenous practices you know there's temper flare a little bit and and then whatever all right let's get back to football yeah well that's getting broken up we are going to take a quick break but we'll be right back with more training camp live [Music] America has an the Ravens kick off the season versus the Texans battle the Bengals on Thursday Night Football or ring in the New Year against the Dolphins visit baltimoreravens.com tickets to buy today welcome back to training camp live we're still in the 11 on 11 period we moved over to the Ravens defense going up against the Commander's offense all right let's see what let's see what our Java's got here I like to keep an eye on him yeah Jabo played some snaps on Saturday what the 17th second team on right now yeah second team defense right now so you haven't really Harrison who had a nice game yeah Robinson yeah I mean tavius is a guy like I mentioned off the top of the show Davis Robinson is a guy who you know these practices I think are important for a young player like him and Travis Jones there in the middle I mean he had some nice plays I mean he's a powerful guy in the middle of that defense I've been encouraged by what I've seen and going into year two um so look I mean pass rush is uh is is a depth concern to some degree right now for the Ravens and the guy like tavius Robinson has an opportunity to show you know that he can that he can hold his own and is ready to make an impact as a outside linebacker from this league Jeremiah Moon's got some snaps he played a lot of snaps uh on Saturday night but yeah tavius Robinson I've been impressed by what I've seen from him just the uh effort dude I mean everything that you heard coming out of the draft about him uh has certainly come through fruition I mean he's just constantly running to the ball constantly working um I've been impressed with the rookie and I think that he could have a pass rush kind of situational pass rush roll in his rookie year right now really the the issue for the Ravens at outside linebacker is Sam you don't you know with Ty's Bowser out you don't you have a lot of Rush linebackers right now I mean on the Ravens depth chart oh nice play outside oh let's see the flag we get a flag on that come on um Cory Mayfield is the corner there and uh looks like he got flagged but didn't seem to agree with that yeah well what I was saying about Sam is you know you look at it and Rush linebacker is really odafe David ajabo and tavius are all Rush linebackers uh right now at Sam I mean Ty's Bowser is your starter there but we haven't seen him yet as he's dealing with uh kind of a knee issue as John Harbaugh said he should be back in time for week one but he's not out there yet hopefully he'll be back soon and then it's kind of who's behind tyus at playing Sam limacker is that is that a Jabo who is it because whoever that guy is Millie Kim with a nice play there another undrafted rookie Baltimore product yeah the sack it's cool to see him get a sack it's the stadium he's always dreamed about playing in and to get a sack in a preseason game that was a pretty cool moment for that that was that was a really neat moment I saw about a few rows in front of us in the Press Box there was somebody with a ham Jersey and I was like that's got to be family right got the ham Jersey that that was that was pretty cool yeah that was a great moment I mean yeah growing up in Baltimore and I think uh there were the photos of him like coming out to go in the training camp and all that stuff oh all right that's leucine again yeah almost went over and joined the offense we traveled you see that catch you see that happen yeah oh putting on the seat belts trapping them up I love it I love it um but yeah I mean does Malay can't you know whoever plays Sam linebacker back to my point I keep getting distracted is that they've got to be able to go backwards that's a Ty's Bowser is showing his coverage skills over the years and that's really an important I mean the rush linebackers too and the Ravens defense they dropped their outside linebackers a fair amount but especially at Sam and so who is that you know the Ravens have obviously reportedly brought in a couple guys for workouts for jv on Clowney that's not really the guy he goes forward yeah uh Kyle Van Noy would make more sense in that kind of well here's ham again yeah he's getting pressure he's getting in the backfield unblocked on that one yeah still um yeah I think it's you know when you talk about the rotation there who is that Sam linebacker it's like you look that the first death chart and it's an unofficial depth chart but they fish the first depth chart came out and and they had David Jabo as the backup rushed linebacker with adape OA as as the first string but they've been putting both of them as you see here on the field together at the same time you have both the javo and away on the field together right now and that's what we've seen right for the bulk of training camp so now we get a chance to look at this first team defense you have Adobe OA on the left side of the screen oh no way yeah on the right side and so we'll see these two guys coming off the edge and see if they can get to the quarterback I mean these they've really been living in the backfield in a big way and just on Ty's Bowser real quick oh nice Marcus Williams came down with a Big Foot [Laughter] Commander's player saying a little something to him he puts his hands up it didn't seem to like that but um you know with Ty's Bowser John Harbaugh did provide an injury update on him he's he's on NFI uh right now and he just basically say he's got an agitated knee but they're still not worried that he's going to miss regular season games so he hasn't practiced yet um but that's good news they don't think that he is going to miss regular season games obviously that's important yeah absolutely yeah I mean he's a you think back I mean he's had what seven sacks the year before right he had a career year before Tara and his Achilles in the regular season finale against Pittsburgh then last year it took him obviously his debut was delayed played about half the year a couple sacks you know it wasn't quite it takes time even once you get back on the field from the Achilles you're not the same player necessarily right away as you were beforehand even though the Ravens and Titus kind of took it slowly coming back that was the story for a number of Ravens players come back from major injuries last year was how quickly can they get back to 100 and um you know so I'm excited to see tyus and I hope this this knee injury you know I think they're probably again being cautious they're not going to rush back but you hope that this knee injury doesn't linger it you know that he is 100 week one that's all I want for Ty's Bowser he knows the defense he's been in it oh yeah it's good pressure oh it came right up the middle that's a sack oh yeah get your dance on big fella yeah I mean oh wait like that's what you want to see from him I mean he gets in the backfield I think as I said he's been living in the backfield and a lot of these practices throughout training camp I've been really encouraged with him I know you know going into last season he has some big expectations and last year didn't go completely the way that he would have wanted him he was close on a lot but he didn't put up a type of sack production that he was really expecting I think that he's fired up about a few things this year he really loves the new outside linebackers coach Chuck Smith as everyone does across this defensive front the Jabo said the same thing oh I really just likes the way he teaches the game loves the fact that he's a performer player and that one's right at away it looked like and uh you know and this kind of athletic freak but holding up strong in the wrong game is going to be something that's important for him oh yeah and the Ravens need that they need somebody who can set the edge I mean you think about linebacker is that great I mean Terrell Suggs was As Good As It Gets and we all know his pass rush ability but his ability to set the edge was so valuable for this defense the Ravens needed Edge Setter and if oh wait can set the edge like he did on that play there that's going to be really big for this defense I mean oh wait there's no ifs ands or buts about it is in a huge position this year the Ravens are really counting on them I mean they need a big a big year for him didn't bring back Justin Houston uh you know jpp I mean it's a big big year for Adobe going back over to the offense we have first team offense out there right now oh wow oh yeah shiver out there Mark's not going to forget that one that's the one where you look back and check the uniform number Mark tossed a football over there I think he let us know hey I got that first half catch there I mean that's what Mark's going to be focused on Salt Bay yeah Mark Mark wants everybody to know that he that he had the nice catch there over the middle and um yeah so you see the first time first team offense here back in the mix we'll see how they do here Pat Ricard out there that's good because they lined up outside I just want to see I just want the ball to go to his a all the time it's just so fun he is he is fun dude to watch [Music] there's going to be some people after this joint practice who say yeah I'm gonna go order my Zay Flowers jersey tonight I mean look there's Odell Beckham Jr I mean that was a short pass that he just can I think one of the things that Todd monkin has talked about is getting the ball in the hands of your Playmakers that's a short pass to Odell Beckham Jr of course they're not tackling here so you know in a real game how far do you get down the field there yep but I think he would have got some nice yardage on that play seemed like he was blocked up well and he's got good moves and so you see just get the ball in the hands of your Playmakers they they're going to do that with say flowers they did that with Zay in the preseason opener on Saturday night they just want to find ways to get these these guys the ball in space and then let them go to work and with Odell and say on the edge I think that they have the ability and the players to really capitalize on that and also if you can push the ball up the field like you do right there with Nelson Aguilar that's not too bad either a little back shoulder Elevate the back shoulder is something that added to the equation we've talked about with Nelly on the lounge podcast is he he really said that that's the chemistry that he and Lamar have developed on that back shoulder leaping play we've seen that number of times and that really helps him with his game because he's so fast you know if if cornerbacks have to respect the back shoulder fade they have to play kind of lower hip you know they have to play kind of the back shoulder and and that enables him to go over the top a little bit easier and kind of Stack that corner so that's a that's a pretty big development for him in his game just going back to obj for a second and here's a guy obviously coming off the injury out of football last year and I think the big a big question was how's he running you know is he running how's he look and I I think he's looked really good I mean yeah he's moving really well and look I don't you know I didn't watch Giants practices back in the day so I can't compare it but his legs are really big he's explosive he's gonna get some yards after catch for sure yep and uh and and I think it when all is said and done fans might look back on this signing and the Ravens might look back on the signing and say yeah you know we paid Odell pretty good money but it was worth it because that player he's back they play down the field oh breaking up nice play by the 34. Yeah manners Treadwell had a chance we just couldn't finish the catch yeah I think honestly I've been impressed with pretty much all of the the Brave's new additions that receiver what I really like think about it and what my expectations were for them coming in Odell Beckham like you you know the Superstar you know the story and so but you also know he's coming back from an injury to your point I think he's running really well I think he's been a great fit as a team guy in the locker room great teammate uh excitement around the city like all that has been very positive but he's looked really good on the field too Zay flowers we all do that he brought in this excitement and Agility but like man he has been putting guys on skates in practice today against Washington and leading up to this point we saw the juke move we saw the penalty ability the ability to drop penalties like he's looked really good Nelson Aguilar there wasn't too much fanfare on his signing but I think he's going to add a deep threat he's also going to add that Bachelor throw like we just saw so all three of those guys like I think that have surpassed the expectations that I had for them up to this point yeah I would agree with that I would certainly agree with that the Ravens wide receiver room is not going to be an issue it's going to be a strength yeah and uh I mean that's I know I know we've had a few questions over the years about wide receivers and some angst have we just a couple just a couple and uh I think Ravens fans should should be very excited about what they're going to see at wide receiver and we're going to see a lot we're going to see a lot of 11 personnel this year with Todd monkin that was one thing from the preseason game you know I was talking to Janice Schaefer up in Baltimore Banner about this after the game thank you joining us for the ride home the other night by the way um if you're watching oh and uh Jonas was you know he pointed out that I thought it was a good good uh observation and it's a new era you know we all knew it kind of was but you watched them in the formations out there and it is a lot of three wide it is 11 personnel one running back one tight end three wide receivers we saw a lot of that and we're gonna see a lot more and when you have the weapons to do it you know that's the way that's the way you play that was always the thing you know that kind of cracked me up was fans would be wringing their hands about the lack of wide receiver talent and yet you know you want to spread it out and bomb it well you know when you don't have the per you play to your personnel in part too and you build around your identity the Raven's identity was running the ball and these heavy formations and they built that way right and and now they're building a different way and they're investing more at wide receiver than they're gonna play that way schematically the two sides of the Personnel department and the coaching staff have to marry each other and uh and and they are wedded that's what we're seeing out here Saturday we saw obviously Snoop Tyler Huntley we saw Anthony Brown we saw Josh Johnson Snoop came in in the second half really started to get things going there when it comes to backup quarterback what have you seen is Snoop still your guy yeah I think that Snoop has probably separated himself a little bit in the in the backup quarterback job or competition I would say I think he probably had a slight Advantage going into it just because he's been back up the past couple years um but it was you know it's a legit competition but I think that Snoop in practice and both and the preseason opener has separated himself in that competition yeah I mean you just see too even though I think that the Ravens are going to run the ball less with their quarterbacks just to see snoop's ability two scrambles on that touchdown drive you say that's still a nice club to have in the back right like you know when when there's nothing there and you can and make something happen with your legs that is certainly uh advantageous yeah so you see here the two sides you got the Riverside coming together here so it looks like it looks to me and based on the practice script that the 11 on 11 portion is done in practice today that the portion of these guys of them practicing together is probably come to a close here um as you know the Ravens all come together on one side but offense uh and defense so it seems like that is probably the case here um that the 11 on 11 joint work has probably come to a conclusion here in practice good good practice some good work for sure yeah I mean physical practice intense um you know Chippy at times which you know like we said yeah that could always happen during these practices but a lot of good work and I think that I think the Ravens will come out of this feeling like they got better I'm guessing Washington will as well yeah and they'll have a few days so they'll practice again tomorrow together and then the rest of the week the Ravens are back on their own again and then they face each other Monday night yeah and we're going to stream tomorrow's practice as well that's again the the I guess tomorrow started tomorrow morning we're going to stream that everywhere at website YouTube channel again starting at 10 A.M tomorrow it's been fun definitely been fun was it was Pat Ricard about to join the wolf pack over there it was the specialist in Ricard he's like hey man I want he's trying to do it all that's right what's next maybe a holder back up I'm Not Gonna Roll anything out exactly I'm like I'm Not Gonna Roll I think he could yeah um just a couple other notes here we're gonna have um they're gonna do press conferences here it'll be around uh noon that these press conferences take place we will stream those for you live uh we'll step away from this broadcast but we will stream uh the press conferences John Harbaugh and Lamar Jackson Mark Andrews and Marlon Humphrey yeah all those guys will talk with media so um we'll step away from that but then come back for those pressers yeah all right fans well thank you so much for joining us today on training camp live we'll be back same time same place tomorrow 10 a.m for the day two of ravens commanders joint practice thanks for watching we'll see you tomorrow
