hola hi I'm Dennis gage and welcome to my classic car well this week I'm in Bayamon Puerto Rico to visit the Amada family car collection this is an amazing collection and it's all Toyotas that's right Toyota's it's the most extensive collection of its kind in the Western Hemisphere probably in the world I've heard about it for years and now I finally get to see it it's show time a little good morning morning Dennis all I can say is Wow I I've heard about your family's collection you know big Toyota collection Puerto Rico okay I'm kind of interesting but when I walked in here I was astounded I can't believe the number of cars and I can't believe the number of models and and and stuff I've never seen this is to show to the world what we have here and it's really probably the biggest and best Toyota collection in the world I mean even even in Japan I don't think they have this do they I'm not sure but I don't think so it's very hard to get that we've been harvesting this cars for over 20 years trying to get as many cars as we can and we continue getting more cars and and and right now how many cars cool we have over a hundred cars over a hundred cars and almost no repeat as everyone is unique everyone is unique that's right and you go back to the very beginning of Toyota in this collection what was right was the first one they made that was the one we saw at the mall right correct correct is it Toyota Toyota with the sweet iced over back in 1958 when I looked at that car I would never have thought that was a Toyota it looks like a 50s dodge correct mean it really looks like a Dodge correct and the other thing that struck me about it was it looked like it was a pretty heavy car and I tapped on the fender there's as much metal in that vendors there wasn't a Model A I mean and yet is pulled around by a little lot of four-cylinder four-cylinder yes the engine definitely wasn't power enough big enough for the car so back in 1959 they changed the car only one year for the 58 only one year really one year yes so 19:59 it's a different car totally different cars we actually have one really but it's in the process of being rebuilt well I know you have other commitments today but you're gonna turn me over to your sister Nicole and we can have some fun with these cars you're gonna have a lot of fun definitely I do thank you so much let's go find the Colts go cool how you doing good and yeah great this is a real treat I don't usually get to interview a female a Cargill Cargill and frankly you're much better-looking than your brother you really are but you've been I mean your whole family is is really I mean the car business is in your blood basically the museum actually my brother just told you it started around 20 21 years ago so I was born on that year basically it was if you want to be you wanted to be close to dad you had to like you have to be the cars it's so so like from the beginning from from when he started collecting he started collecting daughters at the same time he need to us but he has a lot more Toyota's that yeah and it's cheaper to maintain ya problem probably is I know that my own daughters well again this museum just blows me away I've never seen such an extensive collection around a single mark I mean it's very few that that are this big and the whole theme is is one mark in this case Toyota this is an interesting car when we came in and I did a little bit of walk-around before this one really caught my eye cuz it's a I mean this is a pretty stylish card this is a mark - oh yeah is a corona mark ii what year is 1973 and you know this was a when Toyota was you know they constantly change they were always trying to make Americans like right after they didn't succeed in something they just crashed it into the oil always started over yeah so that's basically what they did they started in and they need the states it didn't work Americans didn't like it small Japanese cars really little two-cylinder so they went back to Japan changed the name made it more easy for Americans to pro yeah right came back and this was basically what they tried they tried to copy everything that Americans like and this really was sort of their muscle car cuz this is a six-cylinder whereas most Toyota's yeah we're four but it's also a pretty luxurious car that's what they tried Americans liked it would be luxurious right we want to make a state it's not just point A to point B transportation but you know here again I mean the front end and you know that the center crests and everything it's it's a pretty luxurious car kind of a nice bronze color and an amazingly plush interior I mean this is not what you think of when you think of Toyota's from back then it's you know it actually looks kind of like a GM endear even in the fabric this was like the high end of the tuna yeah and you know automatic transmission again a very sporty - and the fastback styling because I guess behind us is a another corona mark ii but that's the 4-door isn't that nearly as nice yeah this one was more like because it looked it would look more luxurious and also had a statement yeah yeah so you know with with this car being a six-cylinder in a fairly light car was probably pretty fast yeah it was at least for that time it was let's look at that six Wow so that is a that's a single overhead cam engine it's how big two liter - yeah mm you could also see here yeah what are you talking about the Toyota this is a Toyota old-school that's their old-school logo so I mean this is really pretty much how it looked in 73 yeah everything is original every not the only thing that has changed is the battery and it's kind of an interesting exhaust setup - it comes out of a single manifold but then goes into two exhaust pipes so you get dual exhaust out of a single manifold kind of almost so you could get this feed yeah make dual exhaust I love it yeah you know this is just so cool but you've got so much cool here pick out something else let's go loose on though let's find something interesting this was the first car in the collection yeah this was where everything started me and my sister used to get in a lot of trouble for playing my god please to hide in there it used to be our house garage but the original paint everything have even plastic still on the seats I bet your dad wasn't thrilled when you were when he caught you playing no actually he used to say that this was supposed to be my car when I got my license didn't work out that way though well I said that I would have taken it if I could sell it no I don't think the same way I don't think so no I think I keep it very cool so this is pretty cool have you seen anything like this huh no I haven't this looks like a car truck combo yeah once you see the piranhas with four doors yeah it's basically that they just cut the back part out and made it into a truck but then they trimmed it out nice and beam the chrome around the lip and everything and it's I've never seen one it's pretty rare and it was basically just to get everyone to get it to you I think this is a really stylish little ride and I get Ranchero I get El Camino here I mean I think I think that's what Toyota was copying in this the trim and the tailgate it just it just feels Ranchero to me but this probably would rent powered by a four-cylinder right yeah it is let's look at that baby let's see this well no that's that's that's a very different that's just a regular pushrod engine 1600 yeah and also magnificently restored pretty much showing it's basically just how it would have been when you got it off the dealer in 1969 beautiful little car truck whatever very rare too beautifully restored what else you got let's see what I can find okay well now this is kind of cool this looks like an original unrestored corona what yours is baby this is a 1967 and is it unrestored yeah is everything on it is basically original from the paint to the seats to the motor Wow okay you know it this body styles really interesting too because this is a nice looking car and if you if you kind of squint it looks a little bit like a BMW 2002 yeah it does this actually is a limited edition what made it different was the seats and the rug it's two colours so this is now the two-tone interior that the carpets are red seats black exactly this was only for this car the limited edition only had the backup lights under what's down here yeah okay normally they'd be up up in the exactly normally they'll be right there and the ones that were not the limited edition they actually had them there and I can see through the window back here it's an automatic transmission yeah it is what what engine did this have 19 19 19 1.9 no yeah okay well let's look at that baby let's check that out okay your basic four-cylinder Toyota there yep and you know these things were very easy to work on and pretty easy to maintain yeah if you just change your oil and change your pads and they just ran yeah ever been they kind of still do yeah cool unrestored original but I know you got more let's see what we can find oh no this is a cute little car this is a this is a Corolla 1200 a Fastback mm what they call let's call this the Sprinter right yeah even though it's a little car only a 1200 got a pretty classy interior yeah Corolla actually in Toyota is the car that has not been discontinued nor stopped being made they're still making it United for a long yeah they have been since they started making it they have continued making it they're still making it and they have no plans of stopping the thing that changes with the Corollas is not that there's like none inferior on top of it it just was basically the car that was accessible to everybody yeah so what year this is a 1969 well man you know very good shape mm and that only looks like a 12 or 13 inch probably a 12 inch wheel little little wheel and you know fastback so she looks pretty sporty and it even has the Sprinter script here it had a lot of details and it's very modern for his time is you cannot easy yeah now the 1200 that's gonna be the smallest engine we've looked at so far let's let's see what the 1200 looks like wow that is little and it's slant mounted on mm-hmm 1200 CCS boy it's a little little baby very tiny huh is this when restored this has to be restored this one was not restored as you can see here everything is original nothing has changed or have been taken out or just cleaned up yeah just basically cleaned really really clearly whoa man it's a sweet little engine in a sweet little Corolla let me put this baby back to sleeping there's a whole nother room over there let's go check it out all right I like this and this is the this is the biggest Toyota we've looked at yet yes and you just found something very interesting yes I did what so what is it is actually a Land Cruiser but the interesting part is the FJ version like fj's like today sort of work that's where fgs come from exactly okay so this is what the s JS right now are like there's a line doesn't wait and then they have the color like right now and on your tongue so that's kind of where that that that color scheme comes yeah exactly just like the one we have behind us well where does the F J designation come from they had the land cruisers but to know which type of it it was open back if it was like this one that's a big one or oh so this this was the F J and then the serial number which meant the kind of 75 or 55 45 and then you know which type of box dr. J got it well and this blue you'll see these blues in the new fj's yes yeah the f JS maintained the same color schemes as the old f JS so they wanted to keep some of the old in the new it's a boy I mean it's a really boxy design it's kind of Toyota's suburban mm-hmm and this one with a Washington state plate yeah here in Puerto Rico you don't not from I bet it came from Washington yeah man I love it so so this had to take I mean this is a heavy vehicle I'd take a bunch of bigger engine to power it than anything we've seen to this point this head of a big let's check it out all right well Leah surprise just open right here I guess oh yeah no sorry so have you good so we got a in-line 6-3 liter exactly yeah and again on and you can even see on a very beefy frame I mean these were tough vehicles yeah they weren't MJ's are altering no this was me to get in the mind have fun get me your friends it is a gnarly vehicle yeah well the cold spent an absolute blast fabulous collection do you have anything that we could take out and drive I think I have just the thing for you let's check it out huh what's this baby up let's go so you think those will do oh I love it it's it's a Toyota Tierra I never heard of that mark did they import those to the US no actually it was only in Japan and Australia oh it's a right hand drive do you think you can drive it can I Drive a right-hand drive guess we'll find out the three on the tree with your left hand a little bit different I couldn't make it that easy no no that's a bit of a challenge the point is it really is ships beautifully it that fires right up headed - that's nice this is like a luxury of the Sierra we're going to love it with sewage Wow that's gorgeous I was a pretty good view yeah it's a pretty good view cruising around Puerto Rico in a 63 Toyota Tierra with a lovely young woman I have died and gone to heaven I think so so until our next meeting remember honor the timeless classic I'm Dennis gates from quick Tirico happy motoring
