Toy Story Theory: Can Anything Come To Life As A Toy?

strange things are indeed happening in the Toy Story universe and considering the short teaser trailer we watched there are gonna be some big changes when Toy Story 4 gets released on June 21st 2019 one of the biggest debates sparked from the trailer involves four key the spork that has come alive thanks to a little creative use of pipe cleaners and googly eyes but how can four key come alive and interact with the other toys is Toy Story breaking their own rules join us as we break down four keys existence and how he fits into the Toy Story universe it's pretty obvious by now Toy Story lives by its own rules just like other movies in the Pixar universe where cars come to life technology enables dogs to talk and monsters sneak into bedrooms using portal doors we simply just accept the fact that toys come to life when their owners are not looking the rules of Toy Story seemed pretty simple toys come alive when no one else is around but now for key trots along and throws everything we knew out the window so can craft time add some new toys into the mix at what point do these toys actually come alive how can a simple spork bring on so many questions thankfully we don't have to wait until Toy Story 4 for more answers because the past Toy Story films have already given us some more clues about how the toys come alive some people may point to four keys eyes as the reason he comes alive as a toy while it certainly gives him toilet qualities eyes are not a criteria for coming alive in the Toy Story universe in the first Toy Story we see a hockey puck and an etch-a-sketch come alive even though neither have eyes the answer to a toy coming to life may be found in the touch of a child or in this case Sid Andy's neighbor with the creative disposition to destroy toys and mold them into crazy hybrids has made several mutant toys without any eyes there's the jack-in-the-box with the human hand the Barbie legs with the fishing reel and then there's the walking car the cars had its wheels replaced with the arms and legs of another toy earlier in the movie we see Andy use and Buzz glide on a couple of Hot Wheels cars with no indication of them coming to life Sid's craftiness may have brought the walking car to life using the mix of other toy parts while little more demented than a sport craft like for key the roots of four keys creation could come directly from SIDS creations the main difference between four key and SIDS mutants is that four key is not technically a toy as we've come to know looking back at the other movies there have been examples of non toys coming to life as well in Toy Story 3 we see multiple monkeys from the barrel come to life those monkeys are technically game pieces and not true toys we could get technical all day with various toys and items coming to life but the seeds of four keys arrival have been set since the very first Toy Story we're talking about hem Andy's beloved piggy bank hem is clearly not a toy he has a slot for money and opening on the bottom and even spills change in the opening segment of Toy Story so how is ham alive well much like bonny most likely creates four key and introduces him to our group of toys it was Andy's imagination and the creation of evil dr. pork chop which helps bring ham to life the magical touch of a child whether it's SIDS sinister creations Andy's active imagination or Bonnie's creativity helps bring these objects to life of course there's one exception to this rule the pre-manufactured toys the toys that were created for the sole purpose of play no matter who owned them this is why in Toy Story 2 stinky Pete is able to come to life despite not ever being taken out of his package and used and even though he does come to life he definitely has some resentment and anger towards not being touched the toy store scene also illustrates this with toys coming alive in packaging and interacting with Andy's gang of toys the toy manufacturing packaging and purpose helps bring the typical toy to life for custom creations there's a different process to help bring these toys to life while these custom toys haven't quite got the same spotlight there is a lot of evidence of them in various Toy Story media Toy Story 3 also featured another custom-made toy like forky only seen for a few seconds of the movie watch closely when Buzz Lightyear invades the vending machine meeting between Ken and the other Sunnyside daycare goons when Buzz gets caught a burlap sack is placed over his head the sack itself features button eyes and a sewn mouth although the sack doesn't appear to move her talk it probably came to life to keep buzz trapped until he was brought Lotso bear the sack is a very similar creation to forky but without further scenes or evidence it's hard to determine if the sack was able to come alive like four key similar to the sack in the film is the character of dolly with buttons and a sewn on dress dolly looks like a custom-made toy or part of some type of kit which Bonnie could put together herself the homemade element of the design could mean that dolly didn't come alive until bonnie finished putting the kit together much in the way an ordinary spork didn't come alive until its eyes and body parts were added while at first glance it may seem like Pixar is ignoring all of their own rules to bring forky into the picture signs have pointed to this possibility for a long time along with ham and Dolly look to some of the Toy Story shorts to find more proof one of the best examples maybe from partysaurus Rex released in 2012 the Pixar shorts showcases the adventures of Rex as he gets taken to the bath and lives it up with some of Bonnie's bath toys while there are plenty of bath toys which come to life pay attention to some of the smaller details in the short we see a frog shaped bath sponge come to life and help block the drain a bubble dispenser in the shape of a girl also comes to life then there's the whale shaped water spout cover these items are made for safety rather than for use as a toy but the whale also comes to life during Rex's adventure out of the three the sponge is the least toy like object but Bonnie's creative nature has helped give the absorbent frog life when humans are not around and there's even a quick shot of a Rubik's Cube dancing on the bottom of the bathtub the cube itself has no eyes or features but being a part of Bonnie's bath time helped to bring it to life like the others and is just one of many blink and you'll miss it examples we've seen in the Toy Story toons small fry there's an emperor zurg light-up belt buckle which comes alive and seems to communicate with the emperor zurg fast food toy at the end of this short in the holiday special Toy Story that time for God we even see a Christmas ornament come alive and the idea of them coming to life was also mentioned by mr. Potato Head in Toy Story 3 clearly not toys the beloved objects may have come to life thanks to the care and imagination of a child a similar trend is found in the Halloween themed Toy Story of terror when Bonnie's mom gets a flat tire the toys must stay at a shady motel where the owner uses petiguana to steal toys so he can sell them online in the coveted toid case there are a few toys and objects which make us question how they've come to life there's a PEZ dispenser which may be argued as a toy candy hybrid and then there's the Lego bunny one of the closest examples to forky the Lego bunny was not built from a set and is not an official Lego release this means a child built the bunny added the eyes and brought the creature to life through their active imagination and creativity without the eyes and bunny form the creation would be nothing more than just a pile of bricks it's a far different creation than LEGO minifigures with formed heads and body parts the only question remains is how alive is Lego bunny or forky the Lego bunny was able to transform into multiple shapes and designs like a staircase but what if all those bricks were separated if four key loses his eyes and arms does he lose his ability to come alive Toy Story 4 may give us the answers to these questions in the short trailer for key himself declares I don't belong here and has a constant look of anxiety on his face clearly over aware he's now a toy the transformed spork seems to be going through the opposite quest of Buzz Lightyear in Toy Story in the first film buzz was a toy who did not know he was a toy in Toy Story 4 for ki is a spork who has become completely aware he is transformed into a toy and doesn't belong with the others considering Bonnie's creative nature we have to wonder if or key will be the only new creation added to the mix we can imagine all kinds of crafts coming to life popsicle stick craft projects sock puppets and plenty of Pinterest projects gone wrong one thing the movies have never touched upon is the use of play-doh as a toy Bonnie could literally create anything with play-doh in the Toy Story universe and we could see it come to life play-doh is just an example of a craft project with the ability to come to life a homemade craft may even serve as the main antagonist for the film imagine a tin can robot looking to take out the toys because of jealousy fueled rage aimed at the beautifully manufactured toys seeing how the Toy Story 4 teaser followed up with two new carnival stuffed animals making their debut the film looks to show all sides of the toy universe known as duckie and Bunny the stuffed animals may open up a whole world of toys who knows else might come alive at the carnival forky does make us question the types of things children play with his toys there does seem to be one rule when considering how toys come to life they have to be three-dimensional in all of the Toy Story movies there are countless children's paintings drawings and art projects hung up on walls and shown in various scenes these items have the creative touch and the imagination of children like Andy and Bonnie but they do not come to life or interact with woody or Buzz in any way clearly one of the unstated rules in the Toy Story universe is some type of third dimension and physical presence in the world Bonnie can draw stick figures and use Wiggly eyes on pieces of paper all she wants but adding the elements to a spork and turning it into a physical toy helped to bring four key to life four key obviously doesn't have the staying power of a more built toy like Buzz Lightyear so it'll be interesting to see how Pixar treats the situation when a full-length trailer gets released will likely get a few more answers but for now we can only speculate and use the past movies as clear forms of evidence Pixar is not rewriting the rules or inventing new ways for toys to come to life they're simply expanding on the world they've already shown to us from the sponge frog to the Lego rabbit we've seen various toys come to life before and now for key we'll have the spotlight in this zone by the time the movies released who knows how many actual forky toys will be hitting toy shelves and becoming a reality in our real toy universe until then we're excited to see what Pixar has to offer in this highly anticipated sequel so how do you think forky came to life is Toy Story jumping the shark with this creation what other toys do you want to see let us know in the comments section below don't forget to like this video share it and subscribe to Screen Rant on YouTube so you can stay up to date with our awesome videos thanks for watching [Music]
