we have mapped out where each baby that we're going to be moving over here goes and we went through and numbered who will be moving in what order and we've assigned movers to these babies so we'll be in contact via radio so we'll go ahead and put a baby in a transporter remove that baby and then prepare the second baby to move so I'll just be guiding you until a few years next you go to the right okay we circle around yes all babies go to the right just make sure that they don't hit that clogged up anything just kind of watch tubes when you travel throughout the country looking at many places many nurseries and how they designed it how they did it and come up with what we did is taking us almost five years from the time we started talking about it until we're here finishes the workflow that was uh built into this unit was a product of teamwork you can imagine that you're pregnant and all of a sudden your baby comes at 26 weeks your baby can die any minute and your world's turned upside down and the last thing you want to have to do is drive an hour and a half away to a place you don't know the people you don't know and spend the next three months in a place you don't know we focus on family-centered care we want the parents involved in the baby's care as much as possible that is our ultimate goal thank you this week is the culmination of our activity for the past five to six years and we'll be moving into our final space this Thursday So today we're going to take a baby doll and actually transport mock transport over here so that we can see the path um test out the equipment and then we'll say to each other are you ready and she'll say yes so I'm respiratory out of disconnecting the vents here leaving here she's going to grab the baby sheets and as each move got closer we met with Michelle to talk about our move what we thought our obstacles would be what we envisioned what we had planned what we thought would work for us what we thought wouldn't we're supposed to have somebody at this door up here to open the door because we're going to be down to one door so that's going to be one of the obstacles yes we did it will be dragged down but it's not going to go down that much further yeah the second isolate that we moved had things that went up higher so the doorways became an issue and so we realized what what doors were problematic and what height we needed to lower all of the equipment to so yeah it was good to good to experience that with a baby doll we want to do a controlled move what can we do that morning to help people do we want to ban all caffeine well Thursday we move the babies I'm not sure how many we have in-house today but it'll be a magnificent parade probably tomorrow morning when we first start it's going to be very chaotic Controlled Chaos it really will be because there's lots of people that want to help lots of people that will help and lots of people that want to watch right I think everybody's really excited about getting to move I know our families are very excited about moving because this is not something that you see every day this is a once in a lifetime experience for a lot of people when we transport a baby from the old Nursery here it will be similar to transporting a baby from another facility over so we have the equipment needed to transport that baby in any condition is clinical technology emergency management plant operations Environmental Services they're all there and ready for if something happens related to their department they can help us problem solve quickly today we celebrate the last unit opening in the women at a college and Pavilion and we are so excited we have waited a long time I've never seen a hospital and a board that was more willing to give whatever needed to be done yes thank you so the rooms were rearranged due to admissions last night so Ridley will now come first with her being the smallest baby we've ever admitted we'd like her to be the first one admitted into our new NICU are you having any parents come with us yes there will be some parents to walk with us and remember when you're cutting through the birthing center just watch the level of your voice one two three I know sweetheart Let's Chill just a minute I have been introduced to a remarkable group of individuals whose focus in the well-being of the patients is extraordinary every time I entered the old nursery and I could look around and see how small and cramped it was then you walk up here and wonder how in the world do we ever function there so we had four medically fragile children we started the move with two of them one at a time and we ended the move with our most recent admissions one last night at midnight one two days ago both very very sick babies everyone was safe no one had any issues it was very well planned and very well executed it's been a wonderful day lots and lots of moments to celebrate and family families that are really touched Grandma we are very happy to be in the new NICU with the spacious rooms and the Privacy that we have here this is a state-of-the-art facility to go with the state-of-the-art care that we already do I understand why they're a magnet Hospital multiple times because of their dedication and their ability to strive for excellence to be such a bad experience to have premature babies it's actually been a wonderful experience just getting to know the ladies hear the nurses and to know that they are highly highly turned incapable of caring for both my babies and moving over here where we've got this room now where we can help Levi get well so he can go home with us it's just a great feeling I can tell you it's a sense of community here and if someone asked me to Define Catawba Valley Medical Center in one word I would have to say family what they do here is extremely important they take care of the most vulnerable sickest patients you're ever going to take care of it is going to be a dream come true on my part and a lot of our parts because a lot of us have had the vision of what we can do and where we could go but we haven't had the facilities to do it but now we do
