Tour Our New 2023 Airstream 27FB Twin w/ Rear Hatch | Pros, Cons, and Why We Chose This RV!

today we're going to give you a tour of our new rig still stuck in this house with a mindful of doubts tired of staring out the window eating too much drinking too much tired of watching the grass grow Channel 2 channel 3 back to channel two after all of our upgrades we've had this in the campground now for two and a half weeks so we're finally getting used to the space and walking around each other and things like that so it's uh now it's time for the tour hopefully by now you've watched our series of videos on all of the upgrades we did so we put lithium batteries in a new inverter rewired the rig so we can run the whole system on battery we added a solar panel and a few other minor things that we've done that I'll cover some of them here but all of the things we did to this rig before we moved into it or go back in the last few weeks and you can see what those videos are all about the change why did we change we had a 30-foot rear bed 2021 International we love the color scheme we love the decorum we loved all the things about the international we started wanting a rear hatch and we convinced Blair to want one too so now we have the rear hatch and it's a really cool option all of the places we spent this past year traveling around we thought specifically if we had a rear hatch right now how would we use the space and we decided we could have our little porch area in the back and you can have a porch area on the side which everyone's most convenient for the parking spot you're in so that's why we like this option we still love the awning colors we love the interior colors we kept the same blue seats instead of the gray I'm going to give you all the things I like about it so far and things that are somewhat problematic and what you might do to mitigate it so let's start at the back hats player all right sitting back here in the back hatch area you can see it's a really nice space it has this pull down screen so when the door is open you can pull that screen all the way to the floor and keep all the bugs out um this tabletop is my least favorite part of the rear hatch option because it is not super stable and then when you it's just Habit to when you want to get up out of the space or adjust yourself in the space that you push down on the table and you can see from the video how much it wobbles so that is something problematic and something you got to pay attention to if you get this same model without the rear hats this table attaches to the low right here so it's a bit more stable one other thing is you have to put this table down anytime you travel because doing this down the road over time would probably rip those bolts out of the floor down there and that's not something anybody wants to have another thing pillows sitting here in this space with this rear hatch you have this wall here and sitting sitting back against the wall is not super comfortable but you can remove these back cushions here and sit all the way against the wall we can put this table down we just recently had family over here but our sister with kids and we had this whole Space just turned into a lounge area and we left it that way for a number of days and it's actually quite nice and we're going to show you what that looks like momentarily I miss the spotlights so up in our bedroom we have the little spotlights that shine around these are just directly down on the table I like being able to shine the spotlights I think that's something that would be nice to have here there's only one outlet and it's right back there right down in the corner there we added a multiple Outlet thing to it so it's complicated multiple things to somebody in this relationship needs a heated blanket wherever she goes say that again so they think this is the best Christmas present ever which one the heated blanket because because paper is never not on me when I have it on me oh she also snuggles up against it when we're gone but that space down there is right there by that outlet and there's a heater duct right below it so anything you plug into that that cord gets really warm because the heater is right here this little opening right here so that's your heater and that's what the most of the heat comes out of there and blows right out of that thing so it gets this space warm super fast and it gets the bedroom warm last the radio is the same radio we had before I don't mind the radio but it's not super responsive when you push buttons which is okay but it's just a thing up here in the cabinet so what we put up here is our Apple TV and then plugged in right here is this T-Mobile HotSpot basically our home internet and then the Apple TV is plugged into the HDMI port right there which runs to both TVs and then you have a USB charging plug here if you want to put stuff up here to charge it's always such as a battery back here by the door we have our little stick up hooks there they're not they're not they're suction cups they're not sticky and we have one over here for Blair what's up with the lobster you're my Lobster yeah okay now how do you stir yeah where'd you get it uh the Browns gave it to us yes perfect it was actually it's actually a cat toy yeah but Scout has not been with us so yeah it's hanging there until she gets back same thing over here on this side we have a same hook if you don't space we are tempted to just leave it like this all the time uh but it's nice to have a table to work on and eat sometimes but sitting here is very comfortable this pillow and this pillow came from Lowe's we found the screen kind of matches the other color green pillows and Blair found this bad boy at Walmart of all places we needed a bolster pillow because you have this space back here and with the table up or whatever pillows and Things fall down in this hole and then when you have a whole host of people over here someone can sit here and lean back but this is a very nice space I'll call them the whale cushions because they look like a humpback whale they go against the walls on both sides of the curved area uh you can store those up you can also leave them out but over there on that side that also turns into a pan and I want to show you quickly how both of us can lay here comfortably Blair can smell my feet I don't know if I want to do that so I'm five foot nine and Blair's five foot nothing all right but nothing I got three three but we're not even as far back as we could be so two adults can truly lay here and be comfortable so this is our new movie matinee area using the space with the door open most likely what we would do leave the cushions up and just leave an open area here I will tell you that having this rear hatch when we were upgrading and we had to take all the furniture out of here so much easier to get in and out this rear door instead of trying to put it out that side door so that was a really cool option but using the rear hatch while it's open I think we'll put the cushions back up on the thing and the big table here so you can leave the table in and use the rear hatch or you can take the table out we'll probably just put the table upside down on one of our front beds up there and just have an open space here when we need it these poles uh these are lake table legs these store quite easily and nicely right inside your closet there the rear hatch I made some adjustments on this thing one thing I don't really like about it but it's not that big of a deal is you can't lock it or unlock it from the inside you have to lock it outside with the key but even with the handle locked on the outside you can still open it from the inside and get out you can step right out you can pull your sheet down cushions get in the way so do phone charging cords and it magnets down to the bottom and you have this nice open space here so you can load kayaks in or out you can load bicycles if that's something you want to carry in here not that I would but you can it's a really cool option I'm very excited to use this space somewhere soon Blair just says she's been very happy with the rear ax too she thought the pillars would be an issue but they've been no big deal with our pillows like I addressed before so down here we have this charging block and it is simply command stripped up here but here's the normal Outlet that's there you have the two plugs before we did our changes this is also an inverter Outlet if you see the light blue sticker stock model you could put the inverter on and still use this Outlet here also down here you have another storage bin that we keep books and things of that nature in here so it's out of sight out of mind under the area here like every other model you have a bad space if you take this and you put those cushions down here and this also becomes the Dead Space and that's actually quite spacious so if I lay here I can lay here and take a nap I don't want to remove these so I have a little bit more space to go that way but not a big deal otherwise [Music] we love our giant making windows and up Windows up top the TVs and the 2023 models are all 12 volt TVs so they're always hooked to the battery so you no longer have to turn your stock inverter on while you're on battery to get the TV on we added our little temperature sensor here it just plugs in right here to the satellite and there's a sensor outside in the propane tank so I can see inside and outside temperature humidity levels and things like that just a handy and we still have our Dyson Peter HEPA filter fan here that I don't think has been turned off since we've owned it it's on all summer and it's on all winter [Music] I'm standing here at the front well the main cabin door on the the mats the Airstream mat that comes with it we're not super fond of this mat uh it gets all piled up really easy my least favorite thing about it is the rubber bottom if you come in and out the door with wet feet or rain comes in the door when you come in and out and the water gets underneath that thing it sits there and never dries out so we are actively seeking a new rug for this space but the problem is it can't be very thick because when you open this drawer here just not much space there so we have to be very careful how thick it is this is our junk drawer Blair found these nice little Tupperware bands to keep things organized in here but it's really handy hello dog what are you doing you're gonna be in this video but this storage drawer is really nice I like here that tucks away pretty cool down underneath here you have afternoon if you ever wondered what these Circle Things Are you have one here and probably one up in the bedroom or vice versa this is where you're awning attaches outside the bottom part of your awning attaches I just saw Blair make a face going I didn't know that that's where all the wire connections are that go from your um from the rig up through your awning arm similarly back here underneath your sink if you ever wondered what all these flashy lights are here underneath your sink that's your awning control box also wonder here is a fire extinguisher we kept the original fire extinguisher but we got this cool deal this element fire extinguisher and this is a 52nd one you can get these from Air Gear uh you formerly known as the Airstream life store we have links to Air Gear in our e-book if you don't know about that we also have links down below to Air Gear but these fire extinguishers are really cool you pop the cap turn the thing and it just sprays and it's any kind of fire and it's a very space-saving device something we added over on this side was this mailbox this is screwed into this door here command stick up deal hook here it pops off if you need to but this is our trash bag holder so we put trash bags grocery bags here and we take it out daily the trash can that is in the compartment here is really nice and this is a very very large trash can we simply use it for storage we keep all of our trash bags inside of it we keep bigger trash bags and other cleaning supplies inside here under the sink it's a very large space there you could probably put a shoe tray there and put your shoes on it that's exactly where I was going Point well made most RVs when you come in the door there's nowhere to put shoes and it is the most annoying thing ever so we have found that a set of shoes right under there works well so at night time when I'm getting ready and laying my clothes out for the next day because that's how I live my life I put my shoes right under there and I lay my clothes on the couch here and Blair's Blair has shoes all over the place all the time so I put them back in her shoe Bend or or I put them under there stop laughing behind the camera You Make It Shake that's true we added our mixed towel photo up here these are great we've used them in every RV we've had a double side tape up there and you can move them around if you need to and change them out with the seasons so these little coat hooks I think are okay but it just really doesn't fit this space as much as it fit the last one so we do hang some coats up here on occasion but we really like these stick up deal they don't leave a mark love the Moen faucet it's the same as we had before the sink here is pretty nice and deep there's debate on whether the handle should be this way or the handle should be that way it really doesn't matter yeah you got to look and see what pattern matches the grain and it matches the grain when it's facing the other way which is what the other one did too see but either way it's fine it sits in the sink just fine we have here a baby bottle drying rack and they're pretty great we also have them on our Amazon page uh this is just something Blair was shopping for a baby shower and I'm like get one of those things she said for what I said it's a great drying wreck just two of us in here we wash dishes and we have our little drying rack it dumps out but it sits on the counter it sits back here easily and it's a just a nice thing that we can throw in a sink when we travel one thing I don't like about this sink smooth stainless steel sink but it scratches very easily I wish there was one that was like a a dull color like a not so matte finish like a matte finish um somehow underneath the sink on the front side we store our pans on the bottom shelf and our cleaning supplies here there's also a container there did you go to The Container Store I think those are from Target Target or something but anyway we found containers but all of our pans are down here with with pot separators in between so they don't rattle slide around another command hook here with our hand towel all the drawers so there's three drawers and a pull out deal here these are from Target and this is like a spice rack of the spices we don't use very often we need to every three drawers we really love the convection of a microwave now I have placed over this some Red film because that blue light at night is pretty bright it's five things microwave convection oven air fryer Grill and food dehydrator it does all the things and now it only microwaves exceptionally well everything else takes a little bit longer than would do in a normal device that does that specific thing we still have our pressure cooker slash air fryer pot here I'll show you in a second but it's pretty nice we keep our wear rack and our bacon rack and a couple of things stored in there as we travel and then down here is another larger spice rack then you have the big pantry so New Wave air fryer and there's a lid you swap out to make it a pressure cooker and then food storage bags wax paper that kind of stuff look where your flower goes up here now I love this big giant pull out a pantry so had we opted to keep the gas stove and it would have come with a microwave this would have been split right here and you would have one drawer for microwave and one drawer for pantry I'm not a huge fan of heavy things like that in the side of a drawer that's just my personal thoughts but we like the convection of a microwave way better than we ever like the gas stove so that's why we've got that option but then we get all the storage space here for pantries things we have our cool night lights in every spot or every part of the house there was one here one in the bathroom one in the bedroom this former victron solar I call it an RPM gauge basically is what it does it tells you what sun's coming in this is dormant now because I have a whole another system up front this is my previous inverter remote power station and this is also dormant two light switches and then you have your sea level two gauge here that tells you your battery and your tank tank levels we put this towel a paper towel holder up here it's command stripped up there this knife block is a transplant from I don't know four trailers ago uh We've we've taken it with us everywhere we've been uh it's been command stripped up there on every other trailer but there was something about this wall where it would not stick and hold up there it fell off in the middle of the night one time scared Blair um so I just screw it in but that's our knife block and yes I know knife was supposed to be stored the other way but as we travel these don't slide off and it works well these stupid lights on the stove here are blue and gimmicky so they've been turned on for the video but that's the only time you'll ever see them on uh we like the furion cooktop here now one thing about this specific model this great only comes when you get the gas oven so if you get the convection of a microwave like we have it comes with the previous one what we used to have just like a wire rack if you can upgrade to this uh great please do it is a significant upgrade when you try to cook here's the Nora cold new all-electric fridge and for those of you who are out there who are worried about things like this I think about the compressor to keep the freezer cold and the compressor for to keep the refrigerator cold pull about six amps per hour while the compressor is running now that doesn't run all the time once this cold is cold it cools Down super fast so no longer do you have to cool down for hours beforehand and then you have a series of buttons up here there's a moon button so when you go to sleep at night and you're on battery power you can push the moon button and it slows down energy as much as possible it should automatically come back on at the end of eight hours but we've not tested that feature then you have the temperature controls up and down for temperature controls and on off button it is magnetic the previous one was aluminum so we were able to take all of our national park and other magnets and put them on here but the space for this thing is fantastic it's a giant fridge this middle shelf here does slide in and out and it comes with these little plastic tabs these are reusable so don't cut them just take them off and you can slide it out and lock it back in place or slide it in and lock it in place but it's a very handy very large fridge the freezer is much bigger than the previous one then we have our paper storage bin up top and another storage bin down below oh we have barbecue sauce sure do we were we were looking for barbecue sauce last night we was like we need to get some more because we ran out but we have plenty all right here's our hall closet you've seen this in previous videos already if you watch me put the progressive Industries inline surge protector in but I have this half flare has this half we put this one stick up light because this one only came with one light this closet is narrower than the 30-foot closet was not about maybe what three inches four inches not much and then the storage space up top we keep our things to wash clothes with and blankets and extra toilet paper and such but it works pretty well we like the closet what are you doing but I'm being so good oh and a big stretch them huh what a big stretch them oh yeah we keep Piper's water bowl and food bowl right here perfect little spot out of the way the shower one thing I like about this shower compared to the other shower the light switch is on the correct side so used to you had to open the door and the light switch was over here now it's right there by the door so whoever changed that was great the seat in the shower has got the little cutout in it I don't know the shower's about the same size same height I'm a huge fan of these new max air vent fans compared to what used to be on the seal on the others was always falling off so I replaced that three or four times but uh this is a much better designed fan and Blair still don't know how to work that piece right there but I like it much better this is the same as those hooks you saw by the front door suction cup to the wall here with a little basket and for those of you who live with Cheddars like I do this thing right here is great for cleaning out the dream always appreciated how the doors the bathroom door is able to open all the way but this bathroom is much smaller used to Blair and I could both be in there at the same time brushing our teeth and pepper could come in the floor with us because she would but this one is not that much room so we're limited on square footage I said this while we were filming the installing of the tissue when this door is closed sitting on the toilets because you have the counter here and the door here it is a pretty tight space that's a factor for someone depending on if you were a large human or not but it is a pretty tight space in here I do appreciate that Airstream moved this faucet closer to the sink and this thing is long enough because the other one poured right by the edge this one's a little bit more over so it works out much better this shelf is pretty nice so our toothbrushes and things go up there another one of our salt lamps and then you have your medicine cabinet up top one thing about this that is problematic this little latch is not super strong compared to these things so sometimes when you travel and you hit bumps this thing will open so you'll arrive and it'll be sitting like this I may add another latch depends on how much that drives me crazy towel rack back here works well there's plenty of storage down here so you have these two sides and those two sides and then you have storage up here underneath the sink one other thing I added back here to the back of this bathroom cabinet so we're in in the bathroom cabinets here that wall ends here and there's a gap and there's the exterior wall I just took a pool noodle and cut it to the link so I don't drop things back there because I've already lost a pack of dude wipes back in the hole what is down here is your water heater so you can't store stuff down there so this is your own demand water heater um 124 is as high as the setting goes you go Fahrenheit or Celsius here and this is the power button so this is like a remote power button if it turns off the light stays on when it's turned off so this won't work right now truly get this light to turn off you have to go outside and turn off the little white Switch and there's something off button so when we store it a winterizer we actually turn it off outside some people don't like the on-demand water heater but we've been very happy with it so far all right up here in the bedroom uh again the twins or the queen was something we went back and forth on quite a bit if you had a queen bed I'd be standing in the center of it right now and I'd have to walk around both sides with two nightstand tables in our previous model the queen bed in the middle we had floor to ceiling closets that is no longer an option if you want to wear so if you right now ordered the 28 rear bed or the 27 Front bed or the 30 rear bed either one of any of those three models where the queen bed is north south like a like to say you can no longer get the floor to ceiling closets not a big deal because you get your wrap around windows all the way around which we didn't have in our bedroom in the previous model but the top and bottom closets work pretty nice 20 bit here Blair has two storage compartments under her side twin bed here I have two storage compartments under my side [Music] these came with a black plastic tupperware container that fit in all of these we have since got rid of a couple of them just because of what we put in them doesn't really fit in that Tupperware bin this is my shoe bin under this side Blair has all her shoe bends on the end of the bed as long as you choose the shoe bands like this and they're easy to get to these are the shoes I wear most of the time and then I have my extra shoes back here cool Target Target again for the win so and they fit they just slide right in we also use these same bands up here in our upper closet so little shorter versions of it we put t-shirts and whatnot in over here on my side I have socks and some other things in one here and I have some small winter jackets here but pretty cool and then you see the wallpaper there that Blair put on the back side of the translucent glass which uh helps not show kind of what's back there yep not as bright but oh well so this is my closet similar to what we had beside our bed the first time a little shorter so my sleeves hang off a bit but otherwise great what'd you do with your shelves oh they come with three with this the shelves down here on the bottom because I decided to use the hanging space whereas Brad did not so he kept his shelves in same little storage bins on either side of the table here is a USB plug and then you have your main Outlet here which is really nice so Blair has her glass charger I don't use those USBS that put charge my stuff over there but it is Handy and this drawer is actually really nice and spacious here it's a nightstand table it's pretty cool we like it we put our water on it at night and things like that so it's handy more pillows great view up here these are those adjustable lights that I talked about that I wish were kind of back there but they worked fine we only really ever turn them on to give it to her otherwise they never come on because they're so bright to read we have we have other smaller lights that are not so bright and blinding to read with then you have two speakers here so one cool thing about the bedroom that from this model compared to the previous is the Apple TV used to only be in the front TV because it was hooked directed to that TV now because you can HDMI and it comes to both TVs and we Bluetooth it to our speaker system if we choose to watch a movie in the bedroom that's great because we still have the same Apple TV that comes to this TV and we Bluetooth it to the speaker system of the rig so we have a nice surround sound up here as well the old trailer had one speaker in each corner like these and it had a speaker in the center the hallway overhead this one does not it only has the four speakers on the ends so speaking of watching movies this TV does swivel around it's kind of stiff again 12 volt TV so they do work directly on the battery so you don't have to turn your inverter on but down here below the tv your Dometic controls for the air conditioners light switches and on our screen which you've seen in previous videos and again I covered up this stupid thing with a red piece of film because it's so bright at night but we love this system it works really well I like to be able to dim the lights too in the bedroom if you need to but looks good and more Blair's great decorations and we have some photos of us so we can look at ourselves in the bedroom one more thing about storage uh not only do you have two inside storage bins on both sides of the bed but there's also an outside storage compartment here and up front now our front storage compartment is taking a taken up by batteries and inverters and things like that so it's not where I would store things but over here is kind of our camping van so we don't like to pack our you should never leave your sleeping bags compressed so we have them and under Blair's bed over here all of our cleaning supplies and things are in my side over there but at the end of my bed which I didn't talk about or are really cool zip D table and chairs which used to fit by the front door but it's now too short so I can't get them there but this little space works well right here so we have these same bins we went outside and realized we forgot something so we came back in real quick we have the same bands for putting our cups and stuff up here same over there and then for plates um we I think we talked about this in last video but I want to make sure we have real plates because we've I mean we obviously use paper plates on occasion but this is food grade silicone so the plates don't rattle together and they don't slide around so that's how we mitigate uh travel you can get Pyrex and things like that which is fine if we ever break these we might go to that but for now real ceramic plates food grade silicone a couple of things about this rig compared to our last rig one is the fresh water tank in our 30 foot we had a 52 gallon fresh water tank this one is only 37 so that's a factor one cool thing the twin mattresses compared to the queen that mattress is huge space the mattress size is 34 inches wide about 80 inches long our previous queen mattress was a 60 by 75 inches I was worried about being so close to the wall especially with it being winter and the cold kind of radiating off the wall and I'm not an issue with that at all comforter it's like two pla but it's thick to plot and I sweat it is warm very warm how do you do I love it well pepper gets in a bit of Blair too she keeps me warm too but yeah it's um it's overly warm to me particularly with the wool sheets and we did not buy special sheets we bought the Costco whatever twin mattress sheets and they worked they they work great I don't see a need personally in paying the triple double or triple the calls for a set of sheets that fit the curved mattress when these were just fine you agree I agree a couple things about the outside of this rig uh the twin models have a storage bench here on the other side and up front they're pretty large they're nice storage bins you can see them in our install videos what they look like so I'm not gonna go into Super detail you see down there on our stabilizing Jacks I have the snap pads huge fan of snap pad always will have snap pads on our rig big awning over here is really cool and let's go check out the back hatch from the other side so the handle here it's lockable with the key I can again I can open it from the inside and get in and out or I have to have the key to get in out of here if you get the rear hatch you get this cover over your bumper so you don't scratch it and you can it's actually reinforced more than the other ones are so you can stand on this bumper here in our bumper all we have is uh some cones if we have to park somewhere weird or leveling Anderson leveling blocks in a hose we used to have two separate awnings on this side now we only have the one big one but all of our stuff is over here now used to the water fresh water field was on the other side compared to all the dump station stuff but now it's all on the same side which is really handy very happy with the new smart plug system I like this way better than the old system it attaches and detaches super fast and super easy some we don't use cable satellite I do believe I'm going to put a hand nut on here instead of a key just so because we fill this up quite a bit of Spain and the outside shower I think is gimmicky and stuff that we don't ever use anyway and here's how I mitigate that every RV park you're in has a spigot where you hook up a water hose to I get a y splitter a brass y splitter and I have my hose supplied to the trailer and I have a separate hose if I need to wash things off if we use this shower boondocking and like washing your feet off I still got to walk all the way around the rig to walk inside so it really doesn't matter uh using this and I've used it to wash paper off on the old trailer but but otherwise I never use the shower previously we had some pretty cool door stickers from Airstream rallies we'd been on and national parks we've been to and other random locations we had a pretty cool collection of stickers going on but so the trailer we had to get rid of them so this trailer we got some plexiglass we'll cut out plexiglass and just cut with a razor blade here and here and put the Plexiglas all the way on the door with double-sided tape so now if we ever sell this rig and move in another one we could just take the plexiglass with us maybe something you'd like to do I don't know one of our other favorite features is also from Phil the no locks guy his name's right here on this you can get this in um Chrome or matte black but it's a step brace and it's fantastic you may remember some videos ago I talked about we don't use our bottom step and we had a little Camco adjustable step that we set out here because every time you step on the bottom of this thing it will kind of give and my my engineering brain said it's fine for occasional use but day in day out of stepping in stepping out of the rig using this bottom step could become problematic so if you've ever stepped on your door step on one edge of it like this you notice that it gives quite a bit but this step brace keeps that from happening it's actually a really really fantastic piece of gear here and I'll show you what it looks like totally but this top round part goes against the frame underneath there and a bottom angled part here sets on your step and this is a pretty cool deal so you can email Phil right there fill the no lock sky and he can hook you up with some some of his gear so when you travel or this thing's not in use you put it right in your door right there and it Clips onto this little hook just like that and that's your storage spot under there you see how it sits against the frame up there thanks for making us a part of your
