[Music] today we're not going to be doing a mission we're gonna be doing a boat review of what I fish out of this is a rain jersey 118 see that's a 2014 model it's got the 150 Pro XS Optimax on the back with a 8 inch jack plate we're gonna go about a stern and kind of go over the compartments and show you guys the fish ability of this thing has and kind of what I like and what I don't like and we are gonna do a top speed run today I don't know if we're gonna be able to do it there's a lot of wood floating around from the recent storms we've had so I don't think we're gonna unfortunately be able to do a top speed run but at least I'll show you guys all the compartments and we've got an empty boat right now I got no gear in here other than what I have to have to stay legal and for safety reasons so let's get to it alright so moving on up front here main compartment that's where I keep all my fishing tackle you can keep rods in here as well this would be the center compartment there's huge space in here I mean I can fit I mean everything that I ever need everything I ever need can fit in here let's say I've got it empty right now because I was going to do a top speed run with no gear you know just it's just not gonna pan out it's just - there's too much wood floating around so it's it's not safe so center compartment here is the rod Locker it's got built-in compartments like most of them do organizer rack you know I don't I tend to double up the rods in the tubes so you can hold a lot more again there's plenty of room I usually my longest rod I use is like seven point seven foot two or something like that and there's plenty of room I think you could fit eight footers in there and if you didn't have the room to fit him in this locker this rod Locker will hold shoes I don't even I don't even know how long a rod you'd fit in there but at any rate I don't have a rod that that big so that's what she said again there's rod Locker up front everything's on compression hinges which is nice so this compartment right now I could say I just have it have the necessities in here I got an or nice finished off you know it's not just open open areas it's all finished and it looks nice I got a fire extinguisher the light holder for the port yeah whatever you wanna call it the navigation light for running again nice and nice tight seals even for a 14 model the doors still fit they still close tight there's a good seal when you close them so here is a cooler which is extremely nice my last boat did not have a cooler and man this thing I've got water in there right now cuz I apparently I forgot to pull the plug to drain it but I could say it's insulated it'll hold ice all day long it's great it's great having a cooler if you didn't want to use it for a cooler obviously you could use it for any type of storage you wanted to use it for I do use it for a cooler so works out it works out nice so moving on up front recently upgraded to a min Kota old trucks love it the front deck on here I don't know if its standard on a118-c but I do think it's standard on the 518 season this year this area right here and up is all padded so when you're standing up here like I say it's when you're standing up here it's you can feel it you can feel the rubber cushion and tell you what it makes for when you're out here on the day and the waters when you're doing tournaments for 8 plus hours boy you can feel the difference my last boat did not have a padded deck and boy it's like it's like walking on concrete after a while you know you just there's no cushioning so it's say the the padded deck is a big plus so up front this boat when I bought it it had this unit which I still have on it it's an elite 70 I it's plenty capable and I've got it linked to a point one antenna in the back let's link to the other unit through a NEMA Network and I'll show you that when we get back to the back up front that puck there is for the GPS for the trolling motor that way it can know its position and it will help you keep it in spot lock type and deal here we got our trim switches we got an accessory switch here trim up down and then here you got your your anchor lights and your nav lights up front sometimes so here's one thing I don't like about this particular boat is these switches are notorious for not working over time they just get worn out there's an internal mechanism in there that's spring-loaded and it basically when you push it in there's a spot in there like a white piece that rotates and when you push it in it'll do this and then it'll lock it into place well a lot of times that that wears out and the spring doesn't have enough tension to hold it so it stays latched and in so you have to hit it like multiple times to get it to work not a big deal they're easy to but they're cheap to buy they're pretty easy to replace the new design that they have now it's a much more mechanical switch and it feels a lot firmer so we'll see how they hold up but so that's the only really the Bugaboo that I don't like about the switches up front see this does have the bra straps like most boats you know they're all about the same keep your rod safe when you are running down the lake at high speeds forgot to mention those switches right there control the power pole which is currently in the down position so we don't float away we'll pull that up here in a minute to show you what that is if you don't know what it is it's pretty common these days so stepping down from the front deck which by the way so the front deck is pretty wide for this abyss boats 18 8 and I think the beam is I think it's 95 maybe 96 inches across so you can there's plenty of room up here for one angler you got two if you got two people that know what they're doing in here to flip in and pitch in there wouldn't be no problem fishing to people up here as long as they know what they're doing and are you know right so stepping down we have a middle coin box to comfortable seats these seats are so comfy tell you what they they're very very comfortable life jacket life jacket with kill switch so let's check out the center coin box this I just have some basics in here at the moment usually I keep a lot more in here but it'll hold a lot it's it's it's pretty deep the water will drain it will get wet in here if you're in a really really bad rainstorm but for the most part this lip right here will channel the water all the way back into here and there's another drain here so if you're worried about anything that needs to stay dry put it in like a waterproof bag just to be safe do cupholders explanatory so over here we'll start over here passenger rod rack for co-angler to a holder nice I like those here we got measuring board for tournament fishing pretty handy and one thing I do like about what Ranger does with their boats they add a middle seat post option which is built-in right here that way you know someday when I do want to bring a few more people out we can put a seat post in there with a seat and we can have somebody sit here and then you know depend what we're doing I can either stay here then we can have somebody stay here so you can have three three seats in here which is pretty nice for this small of a boat it's nice to have that option anyway so transition down into the driver station so over here this normally is where your speedometer is I don't feel like the speedometer has really worked that well in a boat this particular boat had a high speed water pickup and it just didn't work I think that's what it was anyway it just wasn't accurate so I replaced it with marine style radio there's a video I had it a video on that a while back how I install this if you want to check that out I'll throw a card up in the top of the screen here this I just used the automotive adhesive tape to stick this on I didn't want to drill extra holes it's not going anywhere it's been here for theirs since I stuck it there accessory switches you can tie in anything this particular switch here is what I use for the radio so I just pop it on pop it off self-explanatory so I guess if you're not familiar with how Rangers work when you turn on your live well it will also light up I don't know if you can see the light but it will also light up your Live Well timer it's supposed to do that so don't panic and if you want it on an actual timer you and you just push this button in this will just fill it so you can literally uncheck the live well Phil once you get your fill level done and then you just push this button in and then it will keep you on a research and I'm not sure the timing on how often it will come on and off I think it's every minute or so it'll it'll fire up and run so the unit here in the console flush-mounted this console I'm pretty sure you can flush mount up to a 12 inch in unit as well as the bow unit as well same model as the bow elite 70 i against installed with the system when I bought it about the boat used they just whoever ordered it either ordered it this way or change to these so again same exact graph up front here we have our psi which I feel doesn't work the best that's why I rely on my vessel view mobile running on the RAM mount here here's my RPM gauge and that is accurate from what I've seen when I'm compare this gauge to my vessel view mobile it yeah it's pretty spot-on here's a horn which is pretty loud anchor light nav light Auto belch will light up when it will just it will kick on automatically per the name and once it's running it will light up and then you got your manual bilge obviously two accessory switches which are not tied to anything obviously here is the switch and then this normally is a adapter for like the old-school cigarette lighters which people my age and older will probably know I'm talking about younger kids won't even know what that is but anyway I switch this out for this little nifty little gizmo it's literally just a two port to port USB it fits in the hole perfect I didn't have to do anything literally the same wiring just connected right to it great little buy it was cheap and it's been super convenient what everything these days with phones and my camera everything else it's nice to have that direct connect USB to keep everything charged they're cheap on Amazon obviously controls I do have trim here up and down but I do I do use this more obviously I got my kill switch right here connected most lakes that we fish are like five mile an hour and under this particular Lake is a big lake biggest lake and I think it's the biggest lake in Iowa like Lake Red Rock that I'm on right now it can get a little rough out here so you know safety first I do have a hot foot which basically is it's no different than a gas pedal for your car that is where I also mounted my speaker it fit right in the hole I keep my phone down there just in case it gets broke free and if it falls it's not going to go in the water and right now I have it set up with the mercury vessel view mobile it's all Bluetooth and goes it reports it will show you all of your engine data directly from your engine so I can get rpm my psi miles per hour any fault codes that has it will tell me if you had I think it's any mercury motor that smart craft capable I believe which they started doing that in the early 2000s so you check into that I mean it's it's a nice to have especially if it starts throwing fault codes and you can call up your your your mechanic and say hey man my motor through this code you know look it up and then you can you know pretty much figure out what's going on with your motor so it's nice to have so here moving down research empty auto if you have it in research mode the live well won't it will just recirculate the water that's already in the live well makes sense if you're an empty obviously it will empty the water it'll keep it alive well sets a little bit lower than the actual water line so if you have it an empty basically it just keeps the valve open so the water will come into your live well a little bit even if you have it on empty and then out of automatic position flip that while you're filling the live well and then it will always pump in fresh lake water into your live well while you're fishing if you're going on pad always put it in two recirc mode it will lose water while you're on pad if you have it on auto so again if you're going on pad always keep it in research on your live well so you don't lose any water automatic is really nice to have in the cooler more cooler cooler spring days in fall days when it gets hot and mid summer summer tournaments I won't run it in auto I'll keep it in research only because more likely I'm gonna be icing the live well to keep the water cold and I don't want to pump in warmer lake water into my Live Well so just a quick tip for you guys when you're fishing in those hot summer days so live will talk let's show them so here I've got two live wells with the divider pretty basic this that down there is it's an oxygenator and sorry the light was kind of dirty but the oxygenator once that hits water and you have power turned on to your boat it will automatically start creating oxygen and it's like a very fine mist it's it keeps the fish absolutely just rock steady I swear these sometimes these fish that I release are healthier after I release them than they were when I then they were when I caught them I don't know man they just get crazy in here excellent excellent Live Well system I think these are I made this this is just like a zip tie with a screw hole and I literally just backed out one screw on my latch here and this is just a huge rubber o-ring and I just have it hanged here and it holds all of my my coal tags ank these are Cal Post not familiar with them in any way but I think that's what these are Cal Coast I believe at any rate I like that idea it keeps the cool tags right where I need them out of the way and ready for a tournament all right so directly behind that both seats there's huge huge storage compartments and these back here don't have the gas shocks unfortunately but it's not a big deal I don't really get in here that often anyway all right now I'd like to say I just have the basics first aid kits towels dock line and there's a koozie back there I think there one thing is nice is there is a shelf back here we you can kind of keep some other things out of the way the birds eat at very deep very deep compartments plenty of storage space this one is where I usually keep all of my tools right now I have a throw cushion dock line again another shelf back there I usually keep all the tools and everything that I might need if something happens on the water plenty of room okay compartment this one I do like that the one thing I do like about this is the lid opens that way my last boat and it's nothing to get straightened straightens they're great boats as well but that particular boat I had the lid opened this way and it was a lot harder to access while you're up on the boat working when you were on the boat and you're on the trailer working in the garage it was nice but I like this setup a lot better it seems to work well too trolling motor batteries over here is the master breaker for the trolling motor which is currently tripped right now because I haven't haven't used it yet it's on board three Bank charger and this is where I mounted the pump for the power pole normally the boat right here this circle is it comes with a spare prop holder so if you had a spare prop you just slide it over the big whatever you want to call it a all-thread screw and just and you can mount a prop there that way if you ever need if you have prophecies boom you're good to go you have it here's cranking battery cranking battery oil tank for the Merc and then right here is the on/off switch obviously when you're in charging mode at home you want to flip this to off and basically what it does is it kills power to your entire boat I've never had to use the jumpstart feature so if you're running if you're if you're fishing all day and you're hard on your graphs and you get forget what you're doing and you're cranking battery happens to get weak and you can't start your big motor over it's basically what it does you put it to jump mode and that will actually pull juice from your trolling motor batteries to get you running again so it's a great feature to have great peace of mind thankfully I've never had to use it here is the port light for the rear and the oil fill to refill the oil that's down in below and then this is this is what I used to film all my videos basically this is a yellow tech power stick super convenient I mount the GoPro up there it connects to the nav port the the port light power so literally I can plug it in and I don't have to worry about my battery's dying all day and I just can film and not worry about it a huge deal links down in the description if you want to look into that some more just give it a click and check them out they're super super useful they make a lot of other cool gadgets the motor is protected by a tough skins motor cover that's fit made to fit this motor exactly they make a bunch of different models to fit whatever my outboard you have it's tough skin is the brand and I got mine through big boys toys and creston they are a dealer quick little shout to them if you if you're in the market for one they have a website big boys toys check them out google them they'll give you a good deal they work great for your engine that helps keep it protected especially when you have people fishing back here there banging lures into the side of it and the thing I like the thing I like about it the most is that it keeps all the bug guts from splashing the front area right there you know I'm talking about if you don't have one trust me that thing just gets full of bugs so it keeps the motor looking like brand-new so shout out to them shout out to Farm Bureau my buddy Jake I check them out phone numbers there give them a call if you're in the market for some new insurance they'll give you a good deal on boat insurance here is the point one GPS antenna I was talking about for the rants I say it's all it's all hooked to a NEMA Network basically what it does is if if you like to fish offshore and if you don't have that and you'll see it on your map if you're paying attention to your map it won't update fast enough so you'll be drifting and your arrow will be pointing let's say straight north and then let's say your boat will actually start moving over to the west and you know you're the bow and it'll take a while for that map to update and before you know it you're going to be way off of your spot you're not even gonna know where where your boats at and relative to the Waypoint that you're trying to stay close to so that with that setup basically it allows your GPS to be a lot more accurate and it allows your map to update faster so yeah if you fish offshore and you're trying to hold near a waypoint you got to have it it's just it's a necessity there's no ifs ands or buts about it so back here is my power pole I just got the one and be honest the only time I ever really use it is situations like this when I'm at a dock trying to load up or unload if I'm by myself I'll use it and really going over time I would ever use it as when we go to the river just so I can fit shallow enough that goes down to eight foot but it really only told you really into place it typically will work in six foot six and a half foot of water it works great but it's just they just I don't bed fish a lot and that's usually what they're kind of designed for but they have a lot of uses I just really don't use it anymore now that I have the old tricks up front so it's been that's been kind of a game changer this like I said earlier it's a 150 process Optimax you know just take my word for it great engine strong engine I come up on pad in no time especially with me I've never had an issue with it knock on wood it's been great I think I have 300 and 360 some hours on it now all in all I've been super happy with the boat no complaints all there is they there's a ladder boarding ladder so if you do fall overboard you got a ladder and it clicks in holes into place the power pole the power pole basically just double tap it automatically it's all hydraulic and then to go back down just double tap down and then now we're held into place I don't have to worry about drifting into the shore again it's very useful I just I just don't use it as much anymore now that I got the old tracks all in all guys the sorry about the shadow the front deck on this boat is absolutely amazing I love it it's comfortable when you get up on that padded deck area it's absolutely just it's absolutely it's so comfortable to stand up there all day and then back here the obviously you get all kinds of space again extremely comfortable seats I love that about Rangers I do have a few tears in mind but they haven't opened up anymore that was like this when I bought it there and then I got another one right in there I'm guessing the guy had a pair of pliers in his back pocket or something I don't know but I've kept an eye on them and they haven't gotten any worse so can't complain there it's not not too big of a deal I'm not a deal breaker pretty much in a nutshell the Rangers II 118 C it's 18 foot 8 inches long like I said it's rated for a 150 the same model year 518 boats which basically come with a little more options those are actually rated for a 200 so it's kind of a bummer that they only rate this for a 150 when I know the exact same whole top cap boat on a 518 is rated for a 2 but you know it is what it is they make these safety horsepower restrictions for a reason so so that was my review of my boat after a year and a half of fishing in it pretty much most weekends and a lot of weeknights I put enough time into it to know kind of what I like and don't like all in all it's been a great boat can't complain I hope you guys like the little walkthrough I say I have all the compartments emptied right now because I was going to do a high-speed run but right now and we got a good chop for two I think I could skim across the top of the waist perfect but the problem is we had a big storm a few days ago or yet last night even and there's a lot of floating debris in the water and I just don't I don't want to get going on pad and then hit one of those logs and dang my prop so unfortunately I can't do that but stay tuned I will do it I really want to get a top speed without gear in the boat I know most people you want to get your top speed and your prop and pitch figured out with a full load tournament tournament ready that way you know your prop right and you're good to go there but I'm not that concerned about that I want to know what this thing will do empty and I think I think I can get to 62 63 I don't know I have a video that I did a while back I think it was last year where I just did a top speed top speed run and I hit 58 and that's with all my fishing tackle in here and I think half tank of gas so I'll put a link up there for that one if you haven't seen it again we're going to do another one empty boat and we're gonna see what we can get up up above that 60 mark I'd say that's that's be booking for this boat to hit 60 got a tournament coming up in a few weeks so look forward to that I'll be doing another I don't know if I'm going to pre fish for that or not I think I'm just we're going to show up and wing it so that video will be coming out in a few weeks as well so stay tuned - that looks like the fish are kind of transitioning now into the post spawn face so should be a good tournament will keep our keep keep your eyes peeled for that thanks for watching guys I hope you enjoyed the quick little rundown of my boat if you have any comments or questions put them down below thanks for watching guys peace out you
