[Music] welcome to Murray McMurray hatchery we're going to take you on a short tour today [Music] Murray I may help you here's one of our friendly order takers who can answer your questions lighter birds would but if you want and take your order a few of our other friendly order takers on our website we can accept your order 24 hours a day now let's move over to the merchandise shipping room where we're boxing up orders to get them ready to ship out when we receive your order by 11:00 a.m. central we can usually get it boxed and onto the delivery truck that same day this is one of the farms where the eggs are produced the farmer has many varieties of chickens both bantams and standard breeds look at these silkies they're so curious we gather the eggs from these hens bring them into the egg handling room inspect them crate them up and ship them back to the hatchery now back at the hatchery we're receiving a pallet of eggs [Music] we're transferring the eggs into the trays that we use in our incubators the egg handling device works on suction [Music] we inspect and label each tray [Music] there's a full batch of eggs to hatch the eggs we use both centers and Henchard's here replacing eggs into the center's the setters keep the eggs at the correct temperature and humidity and rotate them back and forth our late [Music] after the eggs have been in the setters for 18 days they no longer need to be rotated back and forth so we remove them from the setters inspect them and transfer them into these plastic trays remove the trays into the Hatcher's where they'll stay until the chicks hatch we clean all the equipment and disinfect it thoroughly to eliminate any chance of disease [Music] now it's hatch day the eggs are hatching after having been incubated for a total of 21 days we separate the baby chicks from the eggshells we have over 100 varieties of baby chicks hatching today these are crepitus that's a lively Bunch these are red lagoons we update the availability information in the computer [Music] the sexers examine the chicks and separate them by gender we bring the chicks into the shipping room we'll watch as a few orders are filled first a little grow gel to hydrate and feed the chicks [Music] each tray contains a different breed [Music] you [Music] some orders require vaccinations we inspect every order staple the lid on the box apply a shipping label and load them carefully onto the truck in the winter each truck is insulated with ball insulation and extra empty boxes it's also well ventilated a call from the post office your chicks have arrived hear them chirping let's see how they're doing our baby chicks are doing great every one of them thank you for touring our hatchery today we hope you enjoyed it [Music]
