[Music] [Music] this weekend we're at spa franco-schultz for gt3 racing's blue ribbon event the total 24 hours of spa it is one of the strongest entries in the history of the race and there is a fascinating 24 hours in prospect with extra night time running our last endurance cup race at the nurburgring started with a bang dennis olson tagged into a spin by albert costa porsche effectively out of the race with damage costa did a lap and then headed to the pit lane with a puncture and also damage and that straightaway gave the advantage to dynamic motor sports porsche battles lower down audi taking on the mercedes fought their way through the stadium as the number 63 lamborghini became a target being glanced off by the smp racing ferrari then the lamborghini went rally crossing dennis lynn marco papelli and andrea calderelli having a tough day at the office the gpx number 12 porsche though fighting its way back into contention trying to work its way up the order but then there was drama off the road spun another of the independent porsches that brought out a safety car period christian engelhart took over the number 54 porsche and did a self-enforced drive-through to reset his stint time he rejoined behind the number 88 mercedes but it wasn't long before the porsche with great drive out of turn one was back into the lead after that the dynamic motorsport porsche was never headed but there was drama for the audi of dorian bokalachi he'd driven really well but ben just got a bit too keen and ended up in a spin patrick pillay off the road he'd been chasing the leader he ended up in the tyres as lamborghini 63 got another work over this time by a charging drees van thor in the audi whoa was to come for the number 63 lamborghini it was attacked by andy suchex bentley more damage and another puncture the lamborghini limped on there were battles right the way through the field the number 31 audi another car to hustle forward but in the end it was a porsche win macchio cairo sven miller and christian engelhardt victorious at the nurburgring audi comes here as ever with a very strong lineup indeed wrt has one car being driven by driest van four christopher meese and kelvin van der linde number 31 and that is certainly a potential winner but as ever without it there is strength in numbers 31 though has got to be the favorite car dries van tour looking for a home win it's a nice feeling of course to be a spring champion now but despite something very special so it's it's something which have not always been nice to me the last three years so hopefully now we can do it good of course it would have been nice to drive with the lineup that was normally planned but unfortunately it has changed and i'm happy where i am now as well we have some work to do but i think we will be there on sunday afternoon you can never rule out mercedes especially the akka asp car with rafaeli marchiello behind the wheel of it especially as that was mighty in qualifying but porsche has come here with also like audi strength in numbers and last year's winners are reunited now for kcmg it's rickard leads michael christensen and kevin est looking for back-to-back victories advice magic every corner is cool we've done a good job last year we kept out of trouble and we were fast so so we're able to win but this year is a new story is another team we kept the driver lineup which is important we know each other very well our confidence is high we we know that we can do it but uh there are definitely a lot of competitors here which want to steal us this trophy not one but two van thor's on the grid this weekend back into european racing comes porsche factory driver laurence van thor at the wheel of this rover racing porsche entry he's glad to be racing on home soil he's after a race win since i think four years i'm mainly racing in america so uh people tend to forget me around here so it's good that at least once a year come back and race from the home crown you would say normally and spa is always a very very big race in the year so it's always a joy to come back here it's a bit different you know coming into a race without really knowing all the details about the team and the car but it's a good team they do a good job with a good lineup so hope we can give them a run for their money amw has had more wins in the spa 24 hours than any other brand from gt and touring car days falcon horse motorsport has been a winning team here before nick katzberg has been a winning driver and comes here after a victory at the nurburgring 24 hours it's definitely been quite a good year so far obviously winning number growing 24 hours was a really big thing for them but let's try and continue it here this team has proven that they can win here the car has proven that it can win here and my teammate is phillip ang he won it twice ago so far needs no further explanation so i think we have a strong chance here last year there was barely a title that andrea calderelli and the orange one ff racing team didn't sweep before it this year has been different it's been a tough start to the season for the team but can calderalli come out on top this weekend it's definitely my favorite race of the year it's always so special this year is it's be different without the spectators but still it's a it's a very special race it's 24 hours 12 hours in the night so it's gonna be very challenging this year as well i think we have a very strong car for the race we are not really focused on qualifying but mostly on the races the total 24 hours of spa is a round of the intercontinental gt challenge powered by pirelli so it's a slightly different looking entry it includes for example the honda it's great to have the car on the grid and it's been looking really quick over the weekend and also we have the hub auto ferrari one of the drivers in this is kamui kobayashi and he's adapting to the car adapting to gt3 racing but doing it very well i love the spot track there's a lot of high speed around the weather is a little bit there it's hard to always you know judge him it's more usually we got to happen in the summer time but now it's most likely winter situation but they're always nice to be back in 2012 because this is the biggest challenging race in the gt3 races in the world already pro-am champions in the sprint cup skytempester racing comes to spark looking for a pro and victory in the toughest gt3 race of them all and on the driving force giancarlo fizzy caller i've got a great memories here in formula one i scored a few podiums i did a full position and last year i had a nice experience with the team here in spa 24 hours we finished in fourth position we are in a good shape the drivers lineup is the same as last year but i think chris and john they are much better than last year and i think we can score a good result yeah ranged against the ferraris though lamborghini what about this car from the orange one fff team luigi machia raphael jamaria phil keane and hiroshi hamaguchi the drivers that is going to be a very strong combination too there's also mercedes in proam to factor in the sps performance car another interesting combination of drivers valentin pierberg dominic bowman colin braun team up with george kurtz we've had a good season in sro in the us and we thought we'd continue and head over to europe and do a legendary race on a legendary track when you hit a rouge and launch your mod i mean those are the ones that you really have to be in awe of and uh you know just continue to work on our pace and do the best we can in the race but yeah it was an amazing experience and it's only going to get better spa is a fabulous lap you have that run down through a rouge the climb up radion speed building all the time the road still climbs as you get up towards likhom over the brown drop down to brazil keep dropping downhill through speaker's corner and the long looping left of pull on to the pivot path down past the college back up through blanchima and stand on the brakes at the bus stop wriggle your way through and then there's the last source here it's a great place to watch gt3 racing day and night [Music] welcome everybody to the total 24 hours of spa welcome not only to the gt world challenge europe powered by aws endurance cup but also to the intercontinental gt challenge powered by pirelli because we make up a round of that championship as well the grid is an extraordinarily strong one this promises and i know i say it every year but it is absolutely true it promises to be a fascinating race but it feels all a bit strange it must be said because we are doing this event without of course the usual vast crowd that we get and the great enthusiasm that we normally have from fans here david addison and john watson with you for the first element of the race look at that magnificent trophy how many wonderful names of teams and drivers are on that stefan ratel looks at the trophy looks at those names that john has just mentioned this is the grid for the total 24 hours of spa picking a winner is well not impossible but john it's time to hold on to your hat because we're set for effectively a 24-hour sprint well we've got 24 one-hour sprint races in spite of 12 of those hours playing in total darkness and the remaining in a sort of a grayish light around the racetrack i couldn't even predict who's going to win this race but ask me after one lap i probably have a better idea don't forget for the championships as well points are rewarded at the six hour mark and at the 12 hour mark out of 18 at obviously 24 but 6 and 12 if you like individual races within races to see what you can do for points uh at those stages and you try and go well there before you have your so-called mechanical pit stop the five-minute pit stop everybody must take to do discs and pads because if you take that before those periods you're going to drop down the order and you're going to be out of the hunt for points we're ready to go racing then they come up towards the source they will round the hairpin plunge downhill cw moses from aws is the man with the flag he will officially get the race underway so right now it is up to rafael martial christopher meese the front row drivers to control the pace here they have to be in a line they can't fan out across the road one of the things we've seen over the last years is penalties given to drivers for moving left or right away from their grid markers as it were only when the race gets underway can you dive out can you start to try to gain full position here we go the 2020 total 24 hours of spa is about to get underway mercedes audi on the front row of the grid cw moses from aws shows the flag we go racing rafaeli much yellow he did the lead but is he gonna hang on to it yes he is as they power up hill second slotting in behind him is christopher meese the car's poor through rouge for the first time now the climb uphill so far so good everybody being respectful of the track respectful of one another as 56 gt3 cars are about to descend on lake hall it is rafael martiello for mercedes who's in the lead job yes christopher made a challenge going into a rouge but he finds himself on the wrong side of racetrack as a transition up the hill through radio look it's a traffic jam unbelievable and cars side by side almost three oppressed coming into lake but now they've dropped down at the brucell but still challenges going on the winning porsche driver lineup it was diving down the inside to try and make up a position you can at the end of the race print off the laptop if you so care but there's going to be so many shuffles corner by corner lap by lap throughout this gt3 balancer performance means that everybody is pretty evenly matched out of all of this so this is effectively a wide open race look back from the mclaren it is in midfield the car being started by ron bell the traffic jam falls downhill now into the pit pat for the first time and rafaeli martial is just eeking out a modest advantage isn't it he's just creeping away by a couple of legs as they're diving up the inside he's mentally number three that is jordan pepper on his toes is he gonna gain a place he's alongside the mercedes is he gonna come out ahead there absolutely side by side but he's done it that was brave stuff by the bentley yes i mean jordan pepper needed to make as much progress you can do so on an opening lap of a race but you've got to be cautious because the car that you're going around the outside may not have a clue that you're there and then there's a danger of getting sideswiped but jordan pepper made a good clean pass made his stick he's making progress and he will want to continue doing so but it will get more difficult the further he gets up through the field the less opportunities he will be finding offered up to him i'm getting worried already about the team parker racing bentley because he's not been shown as having done a first sector time it might be a transformer glitch but let's hope he's nothing more serious than that as the cars come up towards the timing line at the end of lap one so it's the short first lap as you see there number 99 dirk banner getting himself up alongside the audi of matthias in the air there on the run up now into la side by side further back as 54 the dynamic porsche gets run out wide that was sven muller and he's going to lose out i think to the audi as they plunge downhill brilliant first lap of montiello led it by six tenths of a second and now what he's gonna try and build on that there's a car with a bit of damage as it comes up towards uh the lake home secrets and look there's a ferrari in the background with what looks like a puncture it's one of the renowned cars and i fear that could well be pierre herrera's car so they're going through the blue bed cleat that is number 11. that's you and makai so he's chasing after kamehameha but look at this it is the ferrari daniel kalvitz at the wheel of pierre-erect's car punter already john don't know why i thought that was debris on the track i doubt there was so early in the race and any residue from the incident that occurred in one of the previous events will have been cleared away so it could have been a very very slight side rub the side walls and these tires are very vulnerable and the driver oh what's that going down now the rear tire got done and the 55 the attempt to so two cars within the space of the finley hutchinson two cars within the space i wonder finley hutcherson needs to slow down because the speed he's going at he may actually do more residual damage than was done initially by the tower going down wow two punches and we're not at the end of that two five four three two one full course yellow now it will be a short full course yellow to remove debris in two times so lap three full course yellow and you heard i hope alan adams saying a short full course yellow to remove debris in two turns so i think the need for a safety car isn't required but a lot of work is going to be carried out on that 55 audi and well we see the load of tower debris coming on the exit of pujol all the way down to the flip-flop and whatever residual damage that's what the team are going to have to now go to work and repair so really disappointing that for finley hatches and we've just also seen valentin pierberg's mercedes go into its garage there it is john that doesn't look good either well any time a car is pushed back into the garage first of all that allows more than two people to reckon the car at any one time but secondly you do not want to put your car back into the garage because time will last in the pit lane it's time that you will never recover back in the racetrack and but only just barely 20 minutes into this 24 hour race how disappointing is it first for finley hutchinson and how unfortunate was he to be tagged from behind the damage was done was bodywork and maybe suspension but then the the additional damage for the tower flailing and flailing iran would have already compounded that we don't know what happened to the mercedes it's certainly well it's a technical issue whether it's electrical whether it's botanical the ball on some it could really be one of those two things replay of the start here as they thundered downhill marciello was brave at this juncture job no conclusions christopher he's got almost nose to nose as they get to the apex and then the switch back to the right he has to cut back in the outside of the corner was too big a risk to take and then find himself being compromised going over radio and there you see the lamborghini off the road and back on a game but uh up into the lead then rafaeli martiello chased by christopher mees as the pack battled up hill for the first time here at spa safety car in at the end of this lap incidentally as you look back at the start of the race how about this look at that for close yeah i mean raphael just held his ground he had the upper hand when it threw that switch back from left to right beast had to back out of it and from this point forward rafaeli martillo was not going to be overly worried about christopher beast the slipstream that he was providing it didn't enable the audi to get particularly close but christopher meese goes to the right of the racetrack put the nose of the car into the mirrors of rafaeli marcelo's mercedes but look behind the number said he's it's also trying to do arrow angle trying to take advantage of christopher mises marginal compromise at this point but there's no way marcelo was going to give up the lead on this race before he even got through oh rouge it's the restart of the race rafaeli march yellow then storms away makes the run down towards the hampton that's last source being chased by christopher mease third is morrow angle so you've got mercedes audi mercedes the top three as the cars turn through the hairpin and now clutch downhill once more can meese make a move before that race lead let's see us out of the hairpin there goes number thirty meteor bazi the air trying to fend off the challenge of jordan peppers bestly behind him i'm looking forward to narrow angle he's going to get a two both off the lead mercedes and after christopher beast and that mercedes looks very strong at the end of the straight at the end of the opening lap so a potential challenge for second place from the number four mercedes is on the cards number 19 we understand has been off the road at speaker's corner and hit the barrier so there's a car off the road look at the top of the screen there he is in strike he gets it all wrong bouncing over the kerb and boom the barrier back yeah he did he got two by the speaker's corner he didn't get back onto the track he caught the edge of the grass which i think was the reason why the car suddenly rotated and around she went out wide there 54 porsche the dynamic entry he's going to lose a place but he's not careful number 34 bmw if i got so far first goes through look at this scrub as they come down down towards us frank stippler miguel molina is behind then you've got v porsche sven fuller diving back through monina goes sideways fantastic racing this is lap 12 only a mere 23 and a half hours to go job and you're riding now in 16th place on board with augusto farfas in the bmw they're looking forward to the lamborghini through bloodshed by everybody a lot more conservative on the exit of blossom that we were watching through the previous days running so back up into this final right then left square the car off to get the best drive off the corner and the bmw and there in the pits is hiroshima gucci so he's been off the road as we saw four cars with the wipers on john yeah i just saw that coming up the hill all of a sudden swipers are becoming activated but look at this racing going on all the way up the 51 ferrari almost looks like this might miss the apex of lake kumo they turned left so that would be an interesting but they can see that's regardless managed to push his way past the 51 ferrari i wonder is that maybe because of the higher end of the circuit there is a slight drizzle some cars of their wife is operating others haven't bothered if there's not enough rain maybe it's not worth bothering because you can make the screen a smeary you know to look through than maybe having defenders and banks sick whatever you can see so angles got the wires on base has a big big wall coming down off he goes yeah then the track is now fractionally wetter than it was previously caraway's going to try and get past but look bacteria 3d likewise but he's in the wrong side of the racetrack can't go the long way right he has he's taken over the third spot brilliant round the outside find a bit more grip has he come out ahead almost almost almost yes matthew and rudy has done it that was brave stuff it was a good save as well by christopher me support wasn't it yeah but christopher meets by almost losing his heart he set up that opportunity for trudy that compromised um angle in the mercedes trudy's sword and then he just made progress now he's going to try and get past the sister car of christopher obis he's got the momentum up the hill he's got the track position off the hill he's taken away second place matia drooney is flying he's up in a second spot then and not only that look at the gap he's pulled straight away meese is the one that really seems to be struggling with the conditions angle around the outside down to the bus stop what is happening suddenly for audi 31 where's engel god there he is he's made a right moms of it yeah he locked him he didn't lock him he just over break out breaks himself and that's giving christopher means the opportunity to get back from like me she was the one that was losing out on that lap all of a sudden has managed to get but the biggest loser of all sadly sadly this battle angle who served three three cards one and the source they already in the middle the meat and the i don't know i'm running out of expletives here look at the porsche coming down the inside now unbelievable does it get away who is going to break latest angle goes back ahead of priming big twitch michael christensen since porsche is there then you've got christopher mees who is desperately trying to salvage something out of all of this and i think dennis lind is the one at the back of the pack yes look at the lamborghini dennis lead he's got a porsche and he has to hit the brakes michael christensen is in the way christopher beast is over there mario eagles think that part of the race track he wants up to like they come wonderful racing look back andy sue checked eventually he's about to try to gobble up giancarlo fissy covers ferrari that's a brilliant shot isn't it oh unbelievable i thought he's gonna the two hooked up where you're looking at is the rear two who commanded me in all these cars i thought it was going to go into the penties radiator so the battle rage is on for second place and we'll just see danny slim gets second i was about to say we'll find out more about the mclaren dennis lynn goes through to second place he's worked hard for that right tick job done he's through there's morrow angle through in the fourth place and now look neither house has got stuck in the traffic it's the sky 10 peso ferrari jonathan hui will try to get out of the way let them go into the bus stop now morrow angle dives up the inside of nina hauser in traffic goes through goes deep goes wide goes off goes down two places back past him goes niederhauser up and past him goes thomas printing so one up two back for maro angle that was opportunistic in the traffic but he just could not get the car slow down in time so now niederhauser has new opposition to try to defend thomas priming is the man right up behind him but that was great idealism by angle he knew exactly what he had to try to do but it didn't work and we're being given a drive-through penalty for number 21. alexander imperator is kcmg porsche for causing a collision with number 84 phil ellis's mercedes you're on board with rickard leads and he's the one now right up with mario engel who's finding himself dropping down the order not gaining places taking a look at the replay jonathan quinn trying to keep out of the way up the inside rather than the outside this time goes the orange mercedes but no chance do we feel a little bit of rain in the air i think there is i think that actually it was even uh moisture coming up off the curving so it has been maybe falling for the last lap or so but you've got to try the morrow angle certainly tried here comes priding to the inside of the bus stop oh no you don't say it's patrick need a hauser he fends him off but he's a little bit deep into the bus stop that might give brining the advantage remember it's a little bit slippery here because there's light drizzle falling out of the bus stop they come up towards the timing line it will still be the audi ahead but only just to the outside line then the inside dives riding he will break late but he's going to go deep into the corner is he he's got the job done fantastic move that brilliant he got the car slowed down he got to the clipping point and that puts the porsche of thomas brining in third and then he comes from the lead of the race that's predicted raffia marcelo that will be lap number 53 on the board the wind is blowing very strongly the weather could be about to change and if you look on the camera lens there is a lot more moisture john yes it's been very very fun it's that sort of all colors like irish rain it's fairly perceptible but it gets into you and it will eventually get into the tarmac here they're back now [Music] there we go and then we got andrea calderelli we heard from him before the start of the race are looking to see if they can put their season right back on track and certainly you look at star drivers then you have to look at the balance and drive the lineup that is a super strong lineup so 88 left side tires going on and it's still against the sticky towers it looks like a fresh out of rubber it is a sticker tower going onto the mercedes so that'll come off the jacks and once everybody's clear the pit lane that the car will be rolling luckily he is actually at the deer at the bottom because dennis i'm sorry marco marco marpelli in the 63 lamborghini so mercedes is rolling and he's got a long long pit x and luckily he's the lead car is that lapel coming down through no as well yet it is not a good fight looks like he has taken the lead of the race they came in a lap earlier and now we've got marcelo going back out but mapeli he has that first lap out of the pits and when he flashed down he didn't see the mercedes coming out of the pits because he'd pass pit exit so effective race leader now we mark over penny roman dumas taking over from thomas printing in the gpx porsche that was third before the pit stops let's see how that shuffles around and fred bavish has taken over from patrick need a house there is our leader though an excellent pit stop now whether they short change that car on fuel i don't know but whatever they did they managed to turn it around do the driver change get marco marpelli out ahead of previous you know unchallenged virtually race leader rafaeli martiello and that might be a bit of a surprise to the asp team they probably felt that they were in a very strong position to consolidate the lead now raphael's rough as the chaser rather than the pursuit kevin ester now he is getting very very busy indeed all over the tail of another porsche it's matt campbell who's also just taken over the porsche in front of him it's gpx racing leading from kcmg now threatening matt campbell up the inside and blue cell so under breaking matt campbell from the back of the car not quite stable enough now tries to on the inside and that's always a corner where you can find again kevin airstrike using the racing brain gets up alongside matt campbell down the hill into puho takes that position away that campbell had no choice but to concede and that was all because he got him slightly wrong in brussels put himself on the wrong foot kevin astra didn't have to be asked twice to take that position away he's done so he's up to ninth off the inside can the porsche do the switch matt campbell can he get away around the red vervish or not well there is the idea there is the porsche down the hill gets uh no he hasn't quite does he got it does he got it almost side by side he did take it away baby did the wise thing he backed out let the porsche take the position and okay it's once more position he's lost but the car is still in the race that always is a pinch point one of the most difficult parts of the racetrack to try and execute an overtake and if you're not side by side or nose ahead then you better be on your tools because it could be disaster end of a race in a blink of an eye yeah we've seen with that 66 attempt to audi it's not been the quick car in the top 10 it's it ran second early early on but i droody really put it in towards the sharp end of the field been slightly back but as you say john it's still there but james camardo gosh look how he caught the tail and now he's got his nose in front he's made the passing maneuver on poor back campbell matt's had a struggle the last few laps but collado's pace was just so much greater to catch and then pass his next target just up ahead of him and it's the aforementioned 66 attempto racing audi fred veatch at the wheel if there's a trick to know oh look oh no that's that's the one two nine lamborghini that's way the lamborghini just twitched quite badly and that was a signal to those following oh the track here may be wetter than it was simply one lap ago and you can see the cars slowing down visually coming down this part of the racetrack james collado sliding his way through the field but we've got six cars all bunched up together and they look like when the track is wet down to the lowest part of the racetrack this tower box on the surface of the circle of the track take a little look as kevin esther found himself rather closer than he wanted him on the garage 59 aston martin's fire to the flash that is super super fabulous race driver reaction times kevin estrella now 12 seconds down on rafaela marcelo that has been impressive 10 seconds taking lumps and lumps of time out of the second base mercedes-benz or kevin estrada as we have seen in previous years has been a standout driver and once again in that clear air how important it is to have the opportunity now there's the battle for the lead how close can you get to the leading lamborghini he's taken out three tenths of a second the first two sectors sort of stabilized once he got close to the back of the lamborghini so that's the evan flu what you do you sometimes drop back then pick up your own natural momentum and natural pace rush up to the car you're following and then you call them up into into la source and then it's all back to status quo unfortunately we've had a few spinners including the number 32 audi charles local hero the teenager has just got it wrong with that is why we have the full force yellow period parked nose on towards the track what went wrong john yeah coming down yeah coming down in two into brussels so whether there was contact or not i'm looking at the back it's hard to see in the back of this damage there is damage to the back so either he's been tagged at the at the rear that that car looks like it's going to have to be taken back to the pits and whether it be able to retain or continue so that is edward eduardo matara and frank stipler frank stipler always always somebody you'd have as a potential podium finisher well it's an enthralling battle for second place all very good news for our race leader marco mapelli the orange one ff racing team lamborghini stretching his legs now 4.1 seconds to the good as we have this brilliant battle over second place fraga still holds on i mean have you ever seen a rear view going through rouge no cars move around all over the place at o'rouge now should we have some uh little cameo rolls let's throw in mattai truly so strong in the opening of the race i haven't mentioned him too much since he took over the 66 uh attempto racing audi he is now starting to catch james collado so again in the young italians hand that car goes forward for attempto rating they really are getting stronger with every year yeah and i think they're having the inclusion of matteo's rudy in that car has been a real master stroke he again sean we saw at uh at emula the opening round drive-through penalty to car 54 track limits drive through penalty car 54 trap limits dynamic motorsports sven muller engelhard matteo carroll now that's a a serious car that's a potential race-winning car that's been penalized yeah and it's running in 12th place so that is a major disaster for them because a drive-through penalty you cannot have any other mishaps in the race and anyone around you needs to have them there is that's the one yeah coming in to serve its drive-through apparently the 108 cmr that's the dark blue cmr bentley at a halt in the pit lane but for bentley at the moment it's just not their best race joe gooney is their best place driver in 17th overall for capex racing different team to this one but uh clement mateu the driver at the wheel at the moment it comes in sharing with us two stephouse tributini and uh so there we are four hours on the board i'm about to take my leave for a while and david addison about to come back on board to join john watson david it's still a cracking race at the top and the whole way down the order absolutely i've been watching timing screens i've been watching penalties i've been watching cars being hyped out of gravel traps and there's a huge amount going on because for example there is a drive-through penalty being given to bmw number 34 nick katzberg at the wheel of it uh that the guilty bmw for the incident against charles white charles white's car has i'm afraid been retired from the race so also phil keane's lamborghini and the finley hutchinson audi that we saw in strife right at the very beginning so you come all that long way and you get nine laps in that's all that the 55 attempt out he did we briefly had another yellow flag out on track and this is going to tell us why because somebody else has got it wrong 35 bmw coming out of the comp that was nick yellowly getting it uh off the road and there's a lot of liquid pouring out of somewhere there john is that the car or is that out of the tar stack i think the answer is yes thanks for your support marco mapelli then leading the way 4.9 seconds to the good this is the battle for second place felipe fraga just ahead of michael christensen and then in fourth is dries van thor here comes the porsche to the outside line last year's winner michael christensen tries to get the switch back there's the inside line there's the gap but the mercedes just has the drive out of the corner but they could not be closer heading down the hill lap 96 we work at spa and it's the mercedes just ahead as they dive into a route ride the curb spots fly up the other side over the curve more sparks fragger is ahead but now can the porsche capitalize john heading into nicole [Music] well i mean that's not the first time i've seen frank overrun into the chicane but the benefit that the mercedes has got it's got clear air christensen running in the disturbed the the wash from the mercedes not easy to follow up through as closely as he's doing the front end of the porsche will tend to feel a little bit light he won't have the initial bite that he would like he needs to keep as close as he can he needs to keep flying the pressure to the mercedes and you could see what happened just whether it's a break issue or whether it's felipe fraga but for me there's something that he is not comfortable with again even in the speaker's corner how much did michael christensen run down the mercedes now down the hill into pujo he can't pass at this part of the racetrack but he might get close enough to think well would it be worth though is the mercedes pulls away under acceleration so the gap extends like christensen maybe he was a little bit too close at the wrong part of the corner and the advantage has gone back momentarily to the mercedes in second place in the meantime dries van thor sitting back there you can see the audi sitting back probably thinking well if and if and and or when will there be something going on between the mercedes and the porsche well fragger make a mistake will christian get frustrated if i just sit here don't do anything i could inherit second place [Music] there he goes again he dabs the brake pedal and he's hugging the inside to preclude christensen if he wants to go the long way around the top of him but he's in the pit lane as our second and third and fourth place cars and the race leader marco mapelli is already in so one two three four out of the order dive down the pit lane at the end of 98 laps of the race here so if they all come all in alive 63 andre calderelli behind the wheel leaves the pit lane ahead of michael christensen vanderlinder and then fraga so the 88 mercedes has lost a couple of places on the pit stops because there look christensen and vanderlinder have both gone ahead of him porsha and audi leapfrog the mercedes in the pit lane drive through penalty focus 47 and 78 track limits well that drive-through for michael christensen being followed by the drive-through for 78 the silver cup leader patrick cooler so it's all about the change isn't it significantly uh the front overall at the front of the silver cup this is fraga's view he's on the back of vanderlinder christensen is escaping but he's going to have to get that drive through served quickly so down towards the pif path they go riding back on board with the mercedes brake lights come on from the audi turn into the right then flick left through the pit path and then the cars accelerate down towards campus right now the porsche getting away but it's too relatively little good because it's going to lose a massive amount of time with that drive-through penalty christensen's in the pit lane the porsche is in so up into third now is fraga but up front andre calderelli still leads the way and now the margin is 4.8 seconds over kelvin van der linde what we want to see is where michael christensen is i was predicting 12 12 it is ahead of the mario farmbacker honda so second to 12th with that drive-through really really costly caldera's advantage up against four seconds over van der linde er bamba number 98 porsche could this be a sleeper because it's up into eighth place now porsche's generally i think it's fair to say didn't really shine in the first hour but after the first round of pit stops got on with the program there is 98 and bamba now not only is he up one place bruce he's on the back isn't he number four fans of abril's mercedes going for seven well nearly presented himself there because abril really had to haul it back off the curbs as they went around the top of hill down the other side and and uh the move has been made and indeed that very thing about two hours into the race i was thinking okay the porsches are starting to work their way forward but certainly not the rover cars it's oh and now immediately having gained that position all next close thing to hang it handing it right back for the rover racing porsche and it looks as though he's lost he's gonna have to do it all over again yep the mercedes back in front but on the outer line the tighter line the inside line up and it goes the way of rover racing so maybe it is finally coming their way you know bamba certainly had to brave it out must have cursed himself when he ran wide at uh speakers but uh got it back again there's a drive-through penalty being issued for valson abril number four mercedes in eighth place and yertberg meister 10th drive-through penalty to car 4 and car 22 track limits turn three and off the road is the 74 round racing mercedes ramon voss atlas source is that i think he's just outbreak himself so the ram mercedes off the road let's try and work out how he got there and he just seemed to lose that under breaking bruce didn't he yeah all on his own some actually for rejoining the circuit that's probably one of the places with the biggest view to see what's coming certainly if you we've had people spinning earlier we saw so calderelli leading them from fraga so same drivers same cars i'm pretty sure we saw the mercedes and the lamborghini changed tyres so the cars up the hill left and kelvin van der linde is a lap earlier so he there is on track behind the lamborghini so is this our new battle for the race lead it is the audi jumps ahead of the mercedes by coming in a lap sooner so on track down to brazil calvin vanderlinder in the audi on the tail of the lamborghini where are they coming out of brazil we go on board now with the el bamba porsche but at the end of the lap we'll get the new race order but it looks as though 31 now after the pit stops stopping on a different lap has got itself onto the tail finally of that lamborghini so it's a good stop by the wrt team there's a drive-through penalty for the car in second place calvin van der linde you're riding with him he's got a drive-through for the dreaded track limits at turn three so just when the car was very much in contention a drive through penalty comes the way of number 31 audi van der linde has done a long long stint in that car but now the drive-through penalty applied for that audi second place calvin vanderlinder for track limit sir andrea calderon defending at the moment shortly we'll be able to breathe a sigh of relief because the audi will be forced back through the pit lane but somebody's gone off there we've got someone facing car 26 christopher relatively inexperienced at this level and unfortunately darkness and well might have been a race leading car coming past but he's facing the wrong way david point out if i may earl bamber is getting closer and closer to nicholas nielsen so that seventh place porsche is closing in on the af course safari number 51. he is indeed and kelvin van der linder is into the pits so drive through for car 4 track limits confirmed right that's what i brill i think i've mentioned that earlier but he hasn't served it he is now definitely having to serve it this though is the 31 so this is kelvin van der linde's stop so this is a bit like the walk of shame down the pit then all the other teams stare at you because they've seen it on the screen and any uh protestations that the hrt team had about the number four drive-through have come to know that's been confirmed as you heard for vancouver abril in ninth place so this gives you an idea of just how long the pit lane is so the drive-through you've only done half of it past your team now you've got the other part of the pit lane and of course you've got to be careful in your excitement enthusiasm to go back on track not to speed 26 has rejoined thankfully so the pit path is clear christoph crest was 46 and has rejoined the circuit after being off the road for quite some time there and we've got a new race leader felipe fraga has hit the front so felipe fraga first andrea calderelli second and it's the 88 mercedes then back into the lead of the race full course yellow in 10 seconds yellow it's coming it's coming it's coming four three two one full course yellow now so full course yellow there was a yellow in sector three but i haven't yet got to the bottom of who it is that's triggered all of this i'm afraid to say car 26 hit the wall at turn 17 so 26 audi that was already off the road wasn't it christoph cresp he had rejoined and then off again seemingly so turn 17 is the outside of blanchimo that is where the incident is being reported is that another car off with no lights on at all we've seen the 26 uh christopher crest car cleared and now is that a ferrari sitting down low the lights are out the drivers out we're now trying to play the game is to work out or not but it's in that category of audi ferrari maybe a honda type of uh aero friendly car it's made a right mess of the climb out of radion so the safety it's car 31 it is kelvin van der linde's audi it is kelvin van der linde out of the race it's number 31 audi then kelvin van der linde that is perhaps the most significant stop yet kelvin van der linde who was fighting 45 minutes ago for the race lead he's parked and that to me says retirement that's one of the big big name audis out of the race the audi battle now is going to have to be picked up by 66 patrick nederhauser and there is a huge frustration at the 31 garage dries van thor christopher meese know what it's like to win 24-hour races be them in uh germany or here or elsewhere but i'm afraid it ain't going to be a victory this weekend that's a big big blow that's christopher mease doesn't know what to do with himself does he and there the recovery is almost done at the top of radion so the speed is increasing as we are behind the safety car but no news yet as to when we could release them because we need that flatbed off the circuit felipe fraga leads we're on that 1-4-1 at spa we're behind the safety car again rafaela marcello leads in the 88 akka asp mercedes obama in second place in the 98 porsche dennisland in third position and i've been scrolling back trying to figure out exactly why the porsche is so high up did they back time the entire first six hours with that rover racing porsche to get into the points lead at the six-hour mark or were they leaders right after the six-hour mark because everybody else then dived in for the pits having scored the points and i haven't yet found the answer to that [Music] into the bus stop and oh now was that contact from behind it had just a little feel that it might have been i think there was bats before ball there ricardo fella in the emil fray racing lamborghini and somehow they're all within hundreds of a second of each other yeah but also you've got the guys in third and fourth the 98 car of lawrence van thor [Music] and the number three car and the bentley as well where did that come from that that was you know just amazing look look at this cluster so still the leader 88 can i remind everyone that this is a 24-hour race this is a 24-hour race ladies and gentlemen if it was a one-hour race right insane where is that bentley come from how can it have qualified 20th or 30th or whatever it was and be here but because of pit stops and full course yellows and safety cars and penalties and all the other stuff you know nobody's on the same play sheet as everybody else is that the mercedes going through no that's the ferrari that's the problem that's the pass for the lead yeah that's james collada in the 51 8th course of ferrari he has just taken the lead there under-breaking up the inside the classic way from felipe fraga so james collado and let's measure these words leads for ferrari he's doing better than he did in fornery which is good we want somebody to do better and move forward with their career we like that he is on a mission now look at it he's already pulled a gap already pulled together look at the gap he's already pulled at least four or five car lengths in what three corners and look at the trail of cars and that's how he got to be there so quickly is that he's got more speed than the lamborghini and he's in a second step so he's fully dialed into the circuit fragger took over at the last pit stops now we didn't see james's stop showing that he may have been well we know that he double stinted because he was up against rafaela martiello who was in the cart where he wasn't up against him but marcelo was in the car in the last hint so we what we don't know is if james had new tyres in this stint yeah entirely possible he did given his speed but they're on the same fuel strategy so this is not him taking the lead because he's got half a tank of fuel and the mercedes is led him it's because he is currently the quickest one of the quickest cars out there so collado takes the lead [Music] giancarlo pistokiller in pro-am the race leader in pro-am new fastest lap for that car dirk verner new fastest lap in the 99 porsche here is marco marpelli so our second second place car in the pit you lane dinner okay now it's just smoking just looking they are again off the schedule so they're stopping a laugh earlier than a of course 88 88 has a puncture is that why he's dropped down to eighth place he's not in the pit lane yet he's going pretty slowly this is out okay here we go so when you when you've got a puncher drive as steadily as you want left front oh and it's a front engine car it front punches do much less damage yeah that has shed the rubber that's the rim because that's not yeah it's shed the wheel he's lost the wheel yeah that's a hole where a wheel used to be to almost paraphrase bernard cribben so he's come back with three wheels on his wagon and a splitter now trying to come into the pit lane at speed okay fairly easy but trying to stop at the right time and let the mechanic the mechanics now have to do their job by picking the car up valve turned left pretty easily it's not turning right very well so when he gets here to lassos he has to turn right down the inside he will already be very well versed in it not turning right we're let we're going to now see the moment when the right front left went uh bang oh wow so under breaking at le [Music] yeah because if the ferrari had been a few meters closer and the mercedes would not have stopped in the prescribed area he would have gone straight up the back of it so so as you said contact earlier because there's there's marks on the card a bit of tank tape and whether or not whether or not it's you know it was related to that is is hard to tell probably even hard to tell you know in a clinical biopsy that they'll do later of what remains of that yeah i don't think you can do really they've done so many more laps after the incident yeah we just saw a recovering ferrari the 52 room recovering from a spin we just saw that in shot okay so uh that's an am courses uh pro am class car so 52 car accomplishments i just just caught the end of it just as it happened oh yeah there you go so he spun he's facing the wrong way give it a bit of welly trying to stall it trying to spin again bit of damage on the front left so that won't help for the aerodynamics later in the race and then get back going again as safely and as quickly as possible without ruining anyone else anywhere else his race so that was the 52 ferrari yellow flags in sector one [Music] so for wine peaks for hawaii so on board all bathroom third place place that the honda in front it is the honda in front so the honda's not ahead of him but it is in front of him on the road and we're using using all the run off there right back on the brain the honda's easy to spot because it's got that long light all the way across the top of the two little curl backs that's the only way i know that i spotted that quite a lot earlier there was a good cut back there that didn't happen let's look through here what's the [Music] downforce okay so here we go we've got the run down the straight trying to duck out of the spray just to get a bit of clear vision honda's moving over on the right on the limiter here the car going [Music] closed and he was in the slipstream the honda still opened up the gap at the top of the hill so the honda's got long legs now it will lose out somewhere else and that's the way balancer performance works if the porsche's got better slow to mid speed traction it will be hampered somewhere else and in this case it's top speed well but what bamber's doing is he's hassling hassling the honda driver yeah so the honda there we go [Music] this is great stuff in the dark in the rain at spa can we go on the outside there's more grip around the outside yes 20 seconds we've done the move just before the full class full course yellow in 10 seconds what a great fantastic move five four three two one full course yellow now access to pit lane is forbidden access to pit lane is forbidden the pit lane is blocked between the exit of the formula one and the entrance of the engine speed lane pit lane is forbidden so here's the 991 now this is the pit lane exit ahead of him yeah now so there are two ways of going into the endurance pit lane the downhill side you can come in through the formula one pit lane and turn right or come through the gap in the wall at la source and just dive in and potentially somebody has done that by mistake oh look at the little bumper yeah well listen you know look at that it's not gonna dry anything out but every time they get a chance they can go and at least warm their hands oh contact definitely contact heard it from the camera you've always never hear [Music] it seemed like [Music] where the the front wheel arch returns back down behind the wheel often that bit flaps loose if it's had any sort of side on contact but of course it'll be on the side that's on the inside the circuits away from all the cameras which are on the outside of the circuit so we're only going to see it from head on and again he lumps it over the kerbs not sure he's doing that car any favors patrick well we definitely heard there was definitely he's bouncing it off sausage curbs maybe he heard me and he wanted to make the lap here we go and again i don't think that lamborghini got sideways i think that time there may not have been looking at the uh race mission powered by aws speed into urushi we've got a change of place the lamborghini is behind the audi's in front after here he comes he's done it that's got to be another investigation though was there contact at la source well maybe it doesn't have to be an investigation maybe there just wasn't ezekiel perez compact mercedes is the fastest currently through our rouge or into our rouge [Music] well patrick niederhauser is definitely got his sleeves rolled up listen to this charlie but the move was set up here it moved on to the next chord or the next corner and as i said what did i say to you i think the 66 car is getting a little bit impatient and yeah i was bang on because here at last source was their contact oh yeah definitely yeah yeah 100 yeah only the tiniest bit the tiniest bit lamborghini must have been off throttle because the tail didn't step out at all there you go yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah and then down we go 129 in trouble and that car in 39th place overall it's michael petit in the rat on racing ferrari and that was for a long time our am leader this is at the top of oh rouge as well so i'm gonna guess either safety car or now yeah because that's that's that's on that's gonna light up fire yeah yeah that's not a spin and the flames are starting there we go we can start to see them licking at the top and it's in a very vulnerable place uh okay so now full course yellow we're seeing the five minute technical pit stops happening here so the 66 audi there is the 51 car it's doing its technical change so by the time david addison wakes up they will all have done it weren't they yes yes so all the things all the notes i've been making to tell him we'll become immaterial because nobody will owe us one because this is pretty awesome to watch yep green flag green flag [Music] so the safety car is out of the way dennis lind leads the charge there's tandy fourth car in the queue behind here there's matt campbell fifth car in the queue so that's second and third nose to tail and james no it's not that's the other gpx car campbell was standing six seconds behind so what we do know is the leader is 63 and tanya is already through for third in that queue and trying to make a move to get by and get by and he does i think get by before they go down 107. 107 track image and tandy didn't get through so he is still the third car in the queue coming up the hill there's the rescue crews again with their vehicles back in position ready for racing as it resumes dennis lind leads in the lamborghini all right so we're now gonna get endless pit lane uh violations coming through 107 was the the bentley turning 37th place i think it was roughly 39th place yeah and 52 a long way back as well [Music] well he's not no that's daniel sarah he's just come out of the pits because he just served penalty is so the 52 ferrari let's have a cheeky little replay as and when we do yep all right back with the leaders oh here yeah we go so yeah well here we go so spun at the top of our rouge block and any contact i think just kissed the front end no no he got away with that scot-free fair play so far oh i bet his heart rate is absolutely unbelievable that's it that is a full kind of he's still going he's still he's still slow and we will probably not need to go to safety car because dennis lind drives away and again here we go [Music] oh straight up great on is that punch no it something it seemed very odd the fact that it just did go slightly straight oh and that's a big that's not coming back 63 is out of the race welcome back everybody to the total 24 hours of spa our most recent safety car to clear up the incident after dennis lind race leader crashed out at the top of radio he's going to be back in this time green flag green flag fred vavish the race leader there after the most recent round of pit stops in the green and black audi ahead of james collado 51 ferrari christopher house's audi is in third place and the cars they now accelerate over the timing line green flag flies and we are back racing once more at spa it's been an interrupting night inevitably with full course yellows but we haven't thankfully had that red flag situation that we had last year so the races kept going and now with what have we got seven hours and change on the clock we're back racing fred vavich leads them away he's got two and a half seconds in hand over james collado as the cars power their way up through radio then this is now that three seven eight and the cars stormed their way up towards lacombe so it is fred vervice trying now to build a gap over the ferrari hustler is third for audi morrow angle fourth for mercedes laurence van thor's porsche is fifth matt campbell's porsche is sick mateo cairoli seven sergey sorokin ferrari 72 is in eighth place and as the rest come pouring over the line we get an idea of how many are still on the lead left but of course the field now a little more strung out with the traffic uh between some of those lead cars as their james collado hustles on that ferrari has had a very good night he's kept largely out of trouble and it's still very much in contention here fred madish race leader before the last round of pit stops 98 porsche was leading it is now laurence van thor at the wheel and the car is in fifth place but about to go forth i think at the expense of borrow angle he looks for a way by as they drop downhill they were side by side to where rouge but this now is four position mario engel fending off lauren's vampire behind but you've got matt campbell charging along in the gpx number 12 porsche it is fred vervice leading the way the gap is six seconds over james collado and then for fourth place here look it is engel just keeping van thor at bay but it looked as though the mercedes had run very deep and maybe off the road at the bus stop vancouver comes up to have a go like he did a lap ago plunge downhill they are absolutely dead set level here this is four fourth place remember mercedes back through again engel the braver heading into our rouge brilliant staff base between the two of them the race is becoming alive right now it's gone what seven for the yards have been almost 17 in a bit hours and it's coming alive brilliant racing get another car off it is the 991 porsche it's at the top of o'rouge and that is the renault car is it not 991. it's going to be a full course yellow i would fear to sort this out so yet again the circuit bites daniel aleman is the driver oh big big damage john oh that is a serious action between the front of the car the right front suspension ripped off the base of the bulk all the damage is back to the front bulkhead and the rear of the castle that has gone in extremely heavily front and rear and the amount of debris in the racetrack is going to take some time full course yellow in 10 seconds 5 4 3 4 two one full course yellow now another full course yellow 991 is off the road and the car is very badly damaged indeed so that's another one to cross off the the entry list i'm afraid now let's try and have a look at it was it one into two and aston spins oh and it's a spin behind look the aston's gone around the porsche has spun behind it almost in sympathy and back yes so where did the lamborghini come off is this piled in oh there we go that's what's happened that's why it's for the lamborghini trying to squeeze through between the barriers and the rear of the porsche wasn't enough room so here's the view i mean they asked in a massive spin for the the porsche manages to get around that then i mean we've seen this happen before at radio on a car look at that look at the bodybuilder i mean there's so much debris in the racetrack and then the lamborghini tried to squeeze around the between the tail of the porsche and the tower bales and it just wasn't space there was a closing gap and that's taking the lamborghini out as well green flag green flag we are ready to go racing then the race control team calls for the green flag the safety car is in and here we go it is going to be maro angle who leads them away look for number 98 porsche laurence van thor in second place there are one two three four back markers five six seven back markers going over the line between him and the leader so van thor has got a big job on his hands to get through the traffic there is the porsche going into la source engel of course now john can build that gap and look at the traffic behind vanthor yes but here we see the rest of the field filing their way now through up into the chicane but there's a great opportunity for marrow engel to build substantially in laurens fanthor who's got to find his way through traffic and again to do so he's the driver that's going to go to africa none of these cars that are ahead of ansel are going to concede the drawing line to the charging porsche so lauren's van thor in the 98 porsche it's a big big task but he knows the team will tell him you've got six and a half hours don't take an unnecessary risk we've done fundamentally the hard yards of this race now we're getting into the final quarter it will be a battle but it's a different formal battle those 12 hours of darkness where i think the biggest test i've had are witnessed in a gt3 race in the well ever it was to me everybody out there is a hero who has gotten through those 12 hours of darkness we've still got six hours to go that is two normal length endurance cap rounds as there look the battle for sixth place turns into the hairpin at la source we had a great fight a couple of hours ago between these two the mercedes was always the slightly stronger car going downhill and now look look gestalt gets up alongside the porsche is he gonna be brave enough yes he is what a move to go through into sixth place well i thought it was a big enough tree having the top three cars running nose to tail but as you say fighting over sixth place and how they were fighting two top drivers very peak of their game the track is drying out it has been damp overnight if you're just turning on your tvs wherever you are in the world it might look as if it's completely dry but those curbs the drivers do like to drive over the curbs david still retaining a bit of moisture but that was a stonkingly good move and laurence van tor realized he was beaten no point fighting it out through o'rouge because we know that can lead to all sorts of trouble but as you say six hours or so to get that position back well droody almost up against the wall as he comes diving in so a very very good stint so he's got to the end of lap four one nine in the pit lane so there is car 66 419 laps completed mattia droody bringing the car in the tempo the team of arkanarka made its name really in the porsche super cup and uh carrera cup germany came into gt racing with uh mclaren at one point but has sort of shocked around different brands and has become a very happy audi customer and here carrying audi sport branding with audi sport factory drivers given to the team for the first time and that is perhaps one of the biggest tips of the box the team can have to finally get audi factory backing not just being a customer team but to be a factory representing team in this race the audi accelerates away now so fred vervice is going to be up the hill in the lead but he won't stay there because there goes the ferrari new race leader at spa 51 takes over the advantage the nice warm tarzan alessandra pierre guidi is the race leader there behind in second place is fred vervish right on his tail he's going to be marcus finkelhock so there one two three finger hog in the black and orange out he comes up on the outside line goes second and so fred vervice trying to get the tars up to temperature drops back into third place number 90 is equal perez company is in so that the mad panda could uh take on more bamboo or the car can take on more fuel the mad panda motorsport entry right this is vervish this is the pass for second place that wasn't a huge amount of defense was it by marcus binklehock so i think again possibly chris reinker the head of the customer racing program at audi saying uh let's get these cars in an order where the quicker one can do the chasing and if there is a hair out of the two hours it would appear to be 66 wouldn't it yeah again so very very quick in the hands of attire truly now very very quick in the hands of the man who knows spark oh so well fred let's see what's the gap to the okay four and a half seconds to the ferrari i sense that's going to come down yeah but that was definitely uh over i go over through hugo message received i'm an audi works driver i do what audi tells me to do now don't adjust your your eyesight that is delivery on the arc car boots on ginny and car carry oj climbing out and benjamin lesen about to get on board john did you draw that it looks very good well done certainly i might have done it my childhood bruce but you know a box of crayons that we were all given as kids to shut us up we didn't have laptops and internet and all that stuff to distract us and uh probably taint our minds and that age that very oh the age of innocence is an age of innocence and an age where we could be influenced by things that really we shouldn't be so we stuck with the crayons i love the history of the art cast some years i think they hit the target some years not but the fact is in the race is something that i think is is such a rich part of the history still the race led by fred vervice but now he's coming to the pits he came in one lap after the fellow audi uh of finkelhock came in but they're all going out even though actually coming in a lap later might give them more of a chance to read the weather changing let's see what happens in the 66 audi where the tires being held ready at the back but are those the ones that can be put off absolutely this could be a call that'll have a significant bearing in the outcome of this race because wet tires are already it's not how wet the track is actually speaking how weather will be in five minutes time that's more for me the concern as to whether you go on to slicks stay on sticks or you put on a center way by the towers this is rolling the dice for attempt to racing this could either win or lose this 24 hours of spawn just over four hours remaining but the race track you can see the gray line is getting darker and the consensus view here and attempt to racing is roll the dice at this moment we may not gain initially but over a longer period this could be the smart call on small things a race could turn john we know that so everyone is on slings in the top six except the 66 attempt it might be right john it may not but five of its closest rivals all on slicks so we've got to change the lead we've got winkle hawk has switched they've decided yeah your slick tires are good but uh the lap pace would be interesting at the end of this lap suddenly you know we had the advantage what two seconds at the end of the previous lap for fred vervish uh just over two seconds now not only is it swap but it's going out at a rate of knots john where's the green nose down i don't know why the gap has suddenly opened up they've been overtaking it i mean that i think maybe if a beach might have made an error or something has occurred which we haven't picked up on but certainly if that is the case i mean the wipers are going on the 66 is it staying out it's good they've made their bed on the wet weather tower and they're going to have a lion because right now the slick shot of marcus finkelhoff is ahead of the wet turn shot 66 that look at fred vervice is looking for every bit of moisture dampness anywhere on the racetrack so who who made the right call well we can really judge by what we've got on timing and scoring that's what you've seen here we come out of bruce cell so look at vince comes up tries to get down into speaker's corner can he get it done just about yes sneaks through frederick had no real answer to what marcus finkelok could do there is the leader being caught now again by frederic so leader on slicks for second place on wetz five seconds on that last stop for beach took leader now we're back you could say it's status quo but his status quo that isn't status quo because it keeps on changing but so this has been a fabulous race i know contradict myself as i go but around the outside he can do that he's got grip but look how much spray came off the curve there much more rain flicking on the camera lenses as well but uh fred favicia wants to take the lead back and marcus finkelhock he's gonna be on absolute tiptoes on those slicks david absolutely right i mean the good thing is that it's a safe pair of hands for which that audi has been given so think of what perhaps better than most can rise to the occasion he knows where to push when to push but it gets all squirrelly under braking for the bus stop chicane that time so the gap will be down and it'll be interesting to see really if things carries on this as a fight poor position or we go back to doing the right thing for audi and just let vervish go through because really the car they they should be fighting is third it's the ferrari isn't it so the gap is down again now to six tenths of a second that was a 2 35 by the v she was a 2 38 by finger hog and this is going to be the change for the race lead because on wetas fred vivicious got the drive got the traction he's got the pace there is no need for bingo hog to fight him on those wrong tars for the conditions let him go and he's getting darker it is getting wetter and the lap times are getting slower and 51 ferrari has also now given up the unequal solar 72 the two ferraris are in for wet tyres and vervish thinking haha told you so told your wets was the way to go trust a belgium for the weather trust the belgian driver for the choice of tyra at spa the pendulum really has gone attempto's way and it looks so marginal did actually look as though they got it wrong where they went to the wets but uh clearly they did get it right but it really was could have gone either way so out of 56 starters 34 still in the race and now davidi regal comes up to the outside line he finds a ball grip possibly on the outside line gets run out a little bit wide over the curb but coming off the corner yes he's done it davidi re gone right round the outside of pearl that was brave stop wasn't it and breathe wow that was an absolutely fantastic move and certainly james collada would have looked outside and thought oh gosh he's going for it well let's not have the two of us off but uh what a move david fulco in 20 seconds [Music] of course yellow coming our way [Music] yellow on lap four six nine let's see who and where it is the 33 audi that has gone wide into the barriers that is ben goethe that car's had all sorts of woes and penalties in this race it has had 31 pit stops and now it's embedded itself by the look of it in the tires on the outside of our rouge though it's gone wide shedding bodywork as it's gone look and so the car needs to be extracted driver needs to hop out and so we go under the full course yellow it is car number 33 that has triggered this one nick tandy the 98 rover racing porsche gaining ground the porsche's looking good john you suggested when it got wet they might do that very thing nick tandy certainly had a good stint through the night and uh now really really attacking after this withdrawal of the safety car well we've got a spin of the fricatelli racing team porsche and he's gone right across the nose of the number five car that was leading the am class off at the edge of the circuit but it's almost inevitable that that source someone is going to get it wrong in these conditions that's what you'd see was it an assist or not well there's three in the well that's the four that's the that's the lucas [Music] and then the sister car got involved but it actually was the number four car trying to split the two cars on the other side but i'm gonna keep an eye on as the battle for third place because nick tandy is closing on the third place ferrari of james collado look fred ravisha's taking the advantage slipped up the inside coming up into lake combe got a better run out of the paul frank curb and there is what experience is all about read the position executed it perfectly takes the lead so for dorian boccalacci now he finds out what it's like to race with a face full of spray wet wet wet at sparse bar spa frankenshaw it was dry for the early stages race flow is a very job that never amounted to much for very long as we went in tonight for big brain during the night but the proper heavy spa tight rain was about half an hour ago oh contact with a ferrari and into the tower bales and that was an avoidable contact was patrick pelay in behind sega sirotkin you we i could sense the intake of breath from your side of the commentary booth and certainly on my side minor damage but that was the battle for fifth place and suddenly move up everyone borrow angle of the gang they will go forward yes but for patrick pele will that be a judge to be an incident that was avoidable and certainly there the ferrari which was car running in fifth place let's look at it again and see as the porsche gets up alongside is it far enough it's not quite far enough up and sirotkin takes his line and the contact occurs around the left rear quarter of the ferrari enough just to tip it into the tower bales we've got the leading seven cars all on the lead lap and all covered by just over 34 seconds that is how close this race is through the spray mario engel really under attack no wonder he's desperate to get through the traffic because he wants to somehow wriggle clear of patrick pillay but porsche stuck to the back of the mercedes yes but the sahanda really is the the barrow eagle thought he maybe would have a chance to hunt around slightly wide but patrick pele certainly thought he had a chance to be out of brucell think back a couple of laps earlier where he was doing the opposite of power so he jumped alongside as they come out of and he's got ahead of the mercedes so patrick pillay has used his thinking what's side-by-side up in the blanchama is the mercedes going to concede it's on the inside side by side but p-label come on just ahead wow that was i'll tell you what serious motor racing absolutely neither driver giving an inch but it was pele's bravery on the outside line that came through so patrick pillay up there now into fifth place and no investigation necessary for the incident between pele and sorokin so that goes as a racing incident it's not being looked at as number 12 there patrick pelay now up into fifth place sets off in pursuit of nick tandy in number 98 porsche downhill they plunge then as we work that 485 here aspar 10 second time penalty to car 4 to be taken at the next pit stop for causing a collision right borrow angle john cops a penalty yeah i think that the general consensus from the race director of the stewards is that he was the party that was maybe most responsible for what occurred so another 10 seconds added to a pit stop for the number four mercedes so they're down the pit road is the ferrari number 51 it is still very very hard to really call a winner to all this as the ferrari is about to drop back behind the audi as it comes down the hill so james collado will lose that lead to patrick nederhauser as the audi is up through radio nick tandy is at las source so can the ferrari stay ahead of the british driver nick tandy collado he's on the loud pedal now there is tandy don't forget he's of course on fresh tyres and he's already done a lap on them he's got them up to temperature he knows what they feel like there is the ferrari nick tandy is bearing down on him there he is so the ferrari stays ahead in second place but this is going to be a great fight now tandy hustling on in third is pierre guidi ahead of tandy who can barely see the car up towards le corn they come now and where is the ferrari there is the ferrari just visible through the spray the spray drops as the speed drops tandy right on the tail but now he's gonna have to go offline to find a way by out of they calm down hill to brazil they will come where does tandy find a way through into the breaking zone turn into the right-hander closing closing closing ferrari just ahead of the porsche [Music] nose to tail all the way around you can't go around the outside the speaker's gonna it's moving one way the ferrari is going the other way here he's trying to do everything he knows in his book and a few other things he's probably learning on the on the job to keep the porsche behind nick's hand he's got the momentum he's got his dander up as we said britain looking to find a way can he dive down the inside into fanya he's thinking about it he's thinking about it there's been room space but he might be at the wrong side of the exit because the ferrari will hug the curb on the inside but tandy has got the long way around and taking the position nick tandy goes through then gains the place and not only has tandy gave the place with a really brave bit of driving but he's getting away building building building on that margin straight away the focus is those two audi's up the road with just over an hour and a half to go john he's absolutely storming along gabrielli piana here leads the silver cup so the help racing team mercedes uh is currently 23rd overall ellis is mercedes second florian latour's lamborghini third now what about the pro amps it is uh sandy mitchell for barwell ahead of maxine martin the local hero in the aston martin down to third in the class is eddie cheever in the skytempesta ferrari david perrell is fourth ahead of yet to clingmans bmw and colin braun's mercedes we've got another car off the road it's 163 i understand that has hit the tar barrier within the third sector so we might be heading for full course yellow in a moment let's now see as 93 ferrari their third and pro am goes through but there's a yellow flag out in the third sector of the lap right now that is the lamborghini off the road so the car will need to be recovered and will no doubt be going to a full course the leader has peeled in but we are still under full course yellow so we don't yet need to deploy the safety car conditions but uh the race officials with people pitting are going to have to do a little bit of shuffling so what do they do here is this just going to be a quick splash for fuel try to save time on the next stop they're going to have to make another one they're going to have to can't go on around 13 minutes on a tank full of fuel you can't do a driving stick more than 65 minutes correct so they're going to have to do another so is this the long stop with a very quick final stop or the other way around [Music] see how the pit stop times tally when they leave well we could yeah that would that will give us the indication as to what the plan is as the sister the 99 car there [Music] times out for the audi so fresh towers going on to the 66 and the porsche is on its way to take over the lead against the audi so they've kept that on its original set of tires nick tandy then gains track position over the audi as the center lock racing rd comes in and dorian bakalachi seemingly is going to stay on board to take the checkered flag yeah that will be its last stop there's a stint there so that car doesn't have to stop again and nick tandy is in to reset his stint time as well so 98 porsche is into the pit lane same situation with an hour and for just about an hour and four minutes for that and three to go so all of these now are to reset the stint up we didn't even have to do anything to the car there is the porsche going down through the endurance pits so a stint starts when you leave the pit lane doesn't matter what you've done in the pits but a stint counts from leaving that pit so reset yeah exactly right oh this is going to be out there we go porsche trundling down down the pit lane fresh rubber goes onto the 25 it's dorian boccalacci so it's going to be a unbelievable all the permutations you've got to be almost a you know a lawyer to interpret and read the rules and understand how to use the rules to your advantage says pocalachi gets rolling he's got to go up to la source go around the inside and then as neither he is making his way back on to the circuit right now [Music] so 66 has also done a reset so that car came in with what 63 minutes pretty much on the clock so the order we will be able to confirm uh at the end of this next lap but basically what this safety car has given us is almost a world challenge europe's sprint race hasn't it because everybody now is good to go for another hour they don't need to pit unless they have a penalty or they have an issue wow green green green flag he's ready we go racing and look nick tandy is on his toes because he gets away whereas there is the porsche set to block the audi here different team same brand so niederhauser's got to fight his way up past the slower porsche as he comes down towards the source and nick tandy can just get away can't even drive clear of the opposition yes and i mean the assist from the porsche will be oh squeeze in the middle 25 and the 51 ferrari did they get together oh goodness that was almost a repeat for what we saw a few minutes ago with the number four now the ferrari trying to find his way past the bentley down the hill into a sp what it's a spray you can't even see your hand in front of your face [Music] 54 minutes on the clock then so the last hour of the race well and truly joined as the cars paddle their way down through the uh pif path 54 matthew cairoli ahead of alessandra pier guinea but he's a battle for position there the ferrari tries to get through does it go through yes side by side they come on the inside for campers he's gonna be the porsche but round the outside goes pier guinea that gives him third place that was brave there boccalacci fights back around angle but he gets run out wide so maro angles mercedes hangs onto the pace the gap between the leaders at the end of that last racing that was two seconds tandy edging clear all the while now from niederhauser in second spot hard on the brakes into the bus stops 17 minutes remain as they go through the right and through the left up towards the timing line now and the porsche tries to line up from moving to la south they have not been this close have they it's what less than a length as they go over the timing line point one seven three of a second cairo into the outside line don't try it there mathea get the undercut if you can get the switch back go for the inside now now can't do it because the ferrari comes off the line but now cairoli does squeeze up the inside no he can't the ferrari's just got the grunt just got the arrow maybe in the straight line down past the endurance pits and so pierre guidi is ahead but for how much longer fantastic racing isn't it this is for third position and look at this after 23 hours plus they are covered by a tenth of a second and again the porsche tries to get the run out of the bus stop the ferrari just able to stay ahead last that through was point one seven three of a second this lap is point one one five it's even less right matthew have you learned wide in tight out get up the inside no pierre dwedie covers off the line porsche has a look can he get up alongside has it got the pace to stay level it's almost there almost there side by side past the endurance pits on lap 522 up the curb goes the ferrari porsche goes through matthew cairoli goes third brave brave stuff what you've just witnessed is i i didn't think was possible and they both had to run slightly off track at the exit i'll excuse them greedy trying to come back but karoli had worked for that from the exit of the chicane all the way up to the source then download saw side by side and only at the final last knockings was pier greedy forced to concede and let the porsche take the entry i mean this is absolutely beyond the goal of duty in terms of courage and commitment from both drivers so 98 tandy is the race leader here of the total 24 hours of spa his co-drivers look on nervously counting down the seconds before al-bamba and lawrence van thorken start to celebrate as there jamine turns into la sauce hustling on behind pier guinea who's getting quite used to having to defend from pesky porsches now downhill they dropped once again meanwhile out of lake calm again the race leaders and nick tandy to that point was two tenths slower than was niederhauser so that lead gap is still worth keeping an eye to as you see there dorian boca lachie who's got past morrow angle changed for sixth place now now the gap you've pointed out david has been closing because neither harsher had been running consistently about 2.6 seconds behind and they came across the line at the start of what is now lapped to 526 under that two seconds 1.9 i think you're right they think nick tandy has got it in control uh nevertheless neither heiser is throwing everything that he's got in the book at the porsche i don't know why nick would want to be as casual or relaxed maybe he's not maybe he's carrying a problem maybe he's babying a problem that we're not aware of maybe tire wear is a little bit higher than he anticipated maybe the grip factor isn't quite at the level it was earlier in this stint that doesn't sound right to me that sounds very rapidly it's still going it doesn't excite extremely rapidly oh that sounds awful well his last minute gearbox related to me yeah his last middle sector was good but with a lap to go can his car get to the end the leaders go by tandy clearly has a problem can see how nervous the rover racing squad is but nick tandy i think he's going to get away with this because niederhauser is dropping back he's not being able to capitalise at all well he was three about three in a bit seconds slower on that last lap whether he's carrying a problem now as well where is because even further but i think he's just conceded he's considered the race it was made not been made aware that the porsche potentially could stop at any point in this final lap i would agree with that because if niederhauser had got the message i'm sure he'd be ringing everything out of that car he's dropping pace in the sectors unless he too has a problem but here they come into the bus stop the 2020 total 24 hours of spa is about to be won by rover racing by porsche by al bamba by laurence van thor and by nick tandy who takes the checkered flag flag the 24 hours of spa is another win for rover racing delight for al bamba and laurence van thor relief for nick tandy who's brought the car home nursed it home sounding like the proverbial bag of nails but that was touch and go second goes to patrick niederhauser's audi shared with matthew trudy and fred vervice third will be here matio cairoli christian engelhardt and sven muller john it captures guessing right to the end isn't it i'll tell you what i don't know what nick tandy was thinking when he could heard that bag of nails banging away but i mean my heart was in my mind because just imagine if you stopped for mechanical failure on the last step of a 24-hour race i mean the agony i mean i can't i'm i'm having palpitations right now let's look at the provisional results of the 2020 total 24 hours of spa laurence van poor nick there what was wrong with the car there's oil coming all out the back of the car [Music] with one and a half laps to go i i don't know what's happening we've split the gearbox we've broken the drive shaft has come out but there was a horrendous that is the most emotional last stint i've ever [Music] [Laughter] difficult races and disappointments this is just nick is amazing i was in the radio i was i was i thought it was the worst feeling you can imagine but we did it well done well done um come in and join us just quickly a very very emotional embrace of three of you at the end there were
