yo yo yo what up y'all tight shirt ted warfield back in the wilderness again this beautiful day outside hey hope you're having a great day so far remember to be thankful for your life today because a lot of people didn't get that luxury and we got to stop taking so many things for granted on with the meat potatoes hey we gotta wrap up the saga yo canon eos r6 versus sony a74 now if you all missed my last couple videos i've basically been preparing the two cameras reasons why you should buy the r6 reasons why you should buy the sony a74 and today i'm going to give you like my ultimate thoughts and let you know which one i think you should spend your hard earned 2500 on because neither one of these cameras are cheap now disclaimer i did not script this so apologize if i mess up also this is not about to be a super techie comparison and all that stuff i'm talking real world real talk and yeah so uh let's go ahead and get into this let's get it getting a little sweaty out here but anyways let's talk about the r6 first now i think we got to be fair with this the a74 has had a little bit of time to develop over the r6 however canon has not come out with another 2500 ish full-frame camera so this is the one we got to talk about also i think it's fair to say that canon has corrected a lot of the major glaring issues with the r6 in its other camera so cameras like the r7 cameras like the r10 cameras like r5 r5c canon has made a lot of progress but again we are talking about the r6 now i've been using this for a few weeks like i said big shout out to canon for sending this over and i think there's a lot of things to really like about this camera i'm not about to read through the whole freaking spec sheet we'll be out here for 45 minutes but there's some things that i really enjoyed when using this camera okay let's start with that so first of all i want to talk about the sensor inside 20.2 megapixels i have found that this thing produces some really pleasing images and video honestly you know they're pretty much neck and neck in my opinion with image quality a74 is absolutely a little bit sharper when it comes to photos because the megapixel count is higher but you know i've never looked at any photos or videos out of this like oh my god that's not anything short of amazing it produces outstanding photos and videos in low light too and you know that's really all it is to say about that 20 megapixels can be a deal breaker for some people honestly you know coming from a higher megapixel sony camera like the a74 it is a difference you know i'm saying like you definitely got to be more mindful about your cropping and your composition set that backwards but you get what i'm trying to say all in all 20 megapixels the sensor in here is really good now it also does 4k 24 4k 30 4k 60 with minimal crop so 1.1 times crop in 4k 60 it also does 10 bit 422 but only in some modes not available in all codecs or options and also the bit rates on here aren't as high as the a74 but again you know in real world practical use scenario this thing can output some outstanding beautiful lovely photos plus you got canon color science all wrapped up in that the other thing i really like about the r6 is 20 fps bursts when it comes to photos and this specifically appeals to you people that do like wildlife sports photography all that type of stuff so couple 20 fps it's only 12 in mechanical which you gotta you got to satisfy a few things before you can get 12 and mechanical but 20 fps is game changing when you couple that with class leading autofocus the autofocus out of the r6 is probably one of the best autofocus systems i've used and i've used a lot of cameras it tracks birds peoples animals it'll track the sun like it'll track pretty much everything and it's super sticky and i use this for sports you know i shoot a lot like my kids sports and stuff like that and i i do find that the results are better out of the r6 but not by a whole lot but i do love the autofocus system out of the r6 plus it focuses down to lower evs you know when you get all into the technical low light analysis stuff but the other thing i really love about the r6 is the color science that's no question i love canon color science and it's getting hot out here lastly is the grip ergonomics like i really love how this thing feels in the hand i definitely think the a74 looks better but feel wise i feel like the r6 just feels amazing in the hand and also i love the menu design you know i've said this in other videos the menu design the canon cameras compared to sony although canon is not the best it's still way better than sony and it's just enjoyable to use i will say the r6 out of all the cameras that i've tested i haven't tested canon's higher tier ones but this has for sure been the most enjoyable camera i've used not the most capable but the most enjoyable a few other things it's got micro hdmi which i'm not a big fan of it does have usbc five gigabits per second dual card slots on here that you can see dual uh has two card slots i should say and then lastly if i didn't say this already i'd much prefer the viewfinder on the r6 over the a74 but also there's some stuff that i just don't like about the r6 and i'm just gonna throw this out there number one the 30 minute record limit is a big deal if you're photography based i get it it's probably not a big deal for you but if you create any type of video it is a big deal especially if you use it for like youtube and stuff like that i know they've removed it on other cameras but 30 minutes is just just not good all right the other thing that's been a huge problem for me overheating now i'm not saying that the a74 does not overheat because it does but in a short amount of time that i've used the r6 it has overheated more times on me than the a74 has the entire time i've owned it and i've owned that camera since it came out so there's that the next thing that really makes it difficult for me to use the r6 is the fact that you can't customize c1 c2 and c3 as custom mode sets for video now yeah i mean i understand the a74 has the switch which we're going to talk about that but i wouldn't feel so strongly about this if i were able to assign you know my 24 30 whatever fps to one of those dials i just really don't like that i don't like how i have to pick certain log profiles to get access to 10 bit and all that stuff and then lastly i said this in other videos although i love rf lenses the problem is is they are expensive and even with the cheaper options coming sony just has so many more lenses to choose from and i'll touch back on that in a second but to canon's benefit rf glass is fantastic especially like l series rf glass like this stuff is next level some of the best glass that i've ever used i forgot to say this real quick the r6 absolutely has a quieter shutter so i know that's not a big deal to y'all i find the stabilization better out of the r6 except for when it comes to vlogging because there is some wobble when it comes to vlogging which you don't see that much on the a74 and also one thing i really do like about the r6 and i'm kind of jumping around here but i don't script videos so listen you could turn off noise reduction in video on the r6 on an a74 you cannot do that for video shooters that is a big deal so all in all like again if you can't get good results out of the r6 you just plain suck however i do think the a74 has some major and i mean major benefits you need to consider and then i'll give you my verdict i'm gonna need you all to tell me if something jump up out of this river but you had all this stuff terry to say about the r6 what you got to say about the a74 all right here we go listen i think the a74 is literally packed to the brim with features so let's talk about that first things i love about the a74 first of all 33 megapixels is huge um yeah 20 megapixels is enough for most people but for me i much prefer to have more megapixels if i can the second benefit to that is crop mode so the r6 can do crop motor but it's only like eight megapixels you are still getting 15 megapixels in crop mode out of the a74 which for people who do pretty much any type of photography is a big deal now you do not get the 20 frames per second burst that you do get with the r6 and that's one thing that i don't like with the a74 is just how slow the burst shooting is on here and if you go down to like uncompressed i think it goes down to like six frames per second or something like that but all in all photography is great images are fantastic the dynamic range is real real good on this camera i don't find the r6 like it when it comes to dynamic range but i did notice that you know you can push and pull these files a little bit more than you can with the r6 i'm getting so sweaty the next big thing video creators you could do 4k 24 4k 30 4k 60 1080p 120 frames a second with full autofocus no limitations no record limits anything like that and i did just hear what i said there's no record limits on the a7 before so for video creators that is huge there's no 30 minute record limit but to add on to that right you got all your picture profiles you got your cine profiles you got your hlgs you got your log profiles you got s cenotone and the crazy thing is all of those are available in every single codec option container option bitrate option which is crazy because on the r6 it's not not only that but you do get higher bit rates and stuff out of the a74 the one big disadvantage to the a74 when it comes to video is 4k 60 crop it is a one and a half times crop which can be a deal breaker for some people it hasn't been a huge deal for me i've learned to work around it but would i prefer to have a 1.1 times crop versus one and a half times crop hell yeah but anyways for video i feel like the a74 hands down is the superior camera now it also has stuff like full size hdmi big deal it also has stuff like two card slots whereas one of them is cf express type a so again bigger deal more throughput faster data transfer especially with you having a 10 gigabits per second usb c port out of the a7 4. the battery life is great battery life is great on the r62 stabilization is also really good especially when you put this thing into active mode but you also have things like breathing compensation on the a74 which you don't have on the r6 and i'm getting into the nuance stuff i shouldn't be here but i am a breathing compensation focus map is huge i do find that the ergonomics though are a little bit cramped right here like when you put bigger lenses on there you you know you run right here and the problem is is your middle finger knocks up or your fingers knock up against wider lenses where r6 you don't have that problem also to love about the a74 though is the mode dial i told y'all about this earlier where the r6 doesn't have stuff like this there's a switch on the a74 that you can literally cycle from photo to video to slow and quick but on top of that you still get all your customization options on the mode selector dial so you still get your you know custom one custom two custom three which you can set those to video which you can't do on the r6 so for hybrid shooters this switch on the front is literally freaking game changer also you do have the multi interface shoot on top that you can use for digital microphones for sony and i think you can go up to like four channels at 24 24 bit which is wild and then lastly with the a74 and again i'm probably missing some stuff but the fact that you can live stream right from the camera you don't need no additional software unlike the canon where you need to download the canon software it's just game changing for content creators and stuff like that the fact that this is 33 megapixels does mean that the over sampling rate down to 4k is some of the highest that you can get on any camera out there so it's going from 7k down to 4k and even in super 35 4k 60 is going from 4.6 k down to 4k which is a ton of detail resolution but what things don't i like about the a74 all right i started off i told you about 4k 60 crop i don't like that i have had overheating issues with the a74 not like i have with the r6 but if you are buying this camera know that you possibly may have some overheating issues if you do longer form content especially using like 4k 60. that's what i typically see it the most is with 4k 60. i don't really like the ergonomics i said that before ergonomics are so much better on the r6 and aside from that aside from the menu design which i know is not going to change the rear screen which i'm not a big fan of it is really really hard to dislike the a74 i know the colors off the camera are not as good as the r6 or any canon camera for that general but they've come so far with the color science on sony's newer cameras that it's not that hard to match them it's not that hard to get like for like look at photos i just find on the a74 you need to massage it a little bit more so terry it sounds like you have a clear winner and i do so let's just get on with it all right y'all well it's about that time to pick a winner right terry which camera should i buy for my 2500 should i buy the r6 or should i buy the a74 i'ma be honest with you the only reason i would recommend the r6 over to a74 would be if user experience is more important to you than having more features like i said earlier the r6 is a much more enjoyable camera to use and also if you are a sports photographer a wildlife photographer maybe having those 20 frames a second is a lot more advantageous to you not maybe it is over something like only 10 out of the a74 aside from those differences unless the ergonomics the user experience and menu design and color science are more important to you there's no way i can recommend the r6 over the a74 now if we were talking r5 versus a74 this would be a different conversation but because we're talking about these two the only way i can recommend the r6 over to a74 would be if those things i just discussed are more important to you because for 2500 bucks what the a74 brings to the table when it comes to features little to no restrictions little to no problems with size 4k 60 a poor rear display and a little bit of overheating in comparison to the r6 it's just it's it's so hard to not recommend the a74 to you around 2 500 bucks it's hard for me to recommend pretty much anything around 2 500 bucks over the a74 because of how much stuff this camera packs into such a small compact body in addition to sony's amazing and oh i can feel the sweat coming down my face i cannot wait to get in the car but you know coupled with sony's amazing lineup of lenses even if you were to get a r6 you still got to worry about lenses and again the selection for rf lenses although it is getting better most of those are very very expensive and you know for the same price on sony if there's one lens available here at that same price point there's eight or nine available for sony from sony and all these different lens manufacturers too so all in all i think the w absolutely goes to the a74 i can't wait to see what canon's successor to this is but right now there's no way i can recommend the r6 over the a74 i'm sorry canon i love y'all i'm sorry sony because then you know when i get the r5c sony you all get buckets and the r5c might be the camera that may you know might make me want to think about switching i'm gonna be honest with you but for these two cameras i think it's an easy decision sony a74 all day i hope this series was helpful to you if you want to go back and check out any of the videos on why i think you should buy this over this or vice versa or what i just think about sony versus canon as a whole i'll leave that right up there for you to check out after this video anyways it's hot out here my knees is hurting and i gotta go to the gym to work out so till next time much love y'all piece of chicken grease i'm outta here oh terry warfield oh my god how am i gonna squat today that was so painful man much love y'all talk to y'all soon peace you
