considered the Venice of the north Brugge is a small walkable City with cobblestone streets and horsedrawn carriages almost entirely surrounded by a continuous ring of canals the historic Center is on the list of UNESCO world heritage sites today I'm going to break down the top five things to do in Bru so let's get started number five visit the beguinage of brouge founded in 1245 the beguinage was a place where women lived in semi monastic communities meaning they didn't marry but could leave at any time they practice a life of voluntary poverty religious devotion and cared for the sick and poor visitors can explore this quiet walled complex that includes a central Courtyard a church and 30 white painted houses that date back to the 16th century number four eat Belgian chocolate no trip to Belgium would be complete without sampling the chocolate and Brugge has some of the best in the country you can't wander too far without stumbling across one of the 55 chocolate shops in the city if you want to learn about Belgian chocolate visit the choco story chocolate Museum displays are dedicated to showing the origins of chocolate and how it's been popularized over time and you can even watch a live PR making demonstration number three Cruise the canals by boat throughout the historic Center of Brugge our areas where you can hop on a boat and cruise the canals these 30-minute trips allow you to see the city from a different perspective as the boat twists and turns and passes under numerous Bridges it's a great opportunity to sit back and relax while learning about the city's history and admiring the beautifully preserved medieval architecture number two enjoy a glass of Belgian beer you can't come to Belgium and not try the beer it's some of the best in the world head over to the Beer wall on wool Strat to see an impressive display of Belgian beers and their matching glasses if you want to learn more about the beer making process take a tour of the deal man Brewery this family run Brewery has been making beer and Brugge since the 19th century visitors will be shown the step-by-step beer making process and when the tour is finished you can enjoy one of the brewery's main Staples a Bruce zot in their spacious dining hall and the number one thing to do in Brugge climb the belfree at 83 M tall the belfree or Bell Tower can be seen from just about anywhere in Brugge it was built in the 13th and again in the 15th century and happens to be slightly leaning to the east visitors can climb the 366 stairs to the top but beware the stairs are Steep and extremely narrow along the way you can see the corillian bells in action which ring every 15 minutes and once you make it to the top you'll be rewarded with Incredible views of the city brou can easily be done on your own or with a tour group if you prefer but consider spending a night here so you could admire the city once the sun goes down and so you could sample as many of those awesome Belgian beers as possible well that's it for me here in Brugge happy travels everyone we'll see you soon
