hey how's it going through your soul first today I'm gonna go over my top five picks for reliable SUV that he can buy for under 3000 bucks and similar to my previous videos the criterias are used in picking these vehicles was first whether there was a known or common issue a problem with either the engine or transmission second the rate of failure of either the in general transmission due to the common issue and third cost of repair or replacement of the engine or the transmission and of course these picks are based on my personal experiences as a very very mucho a lot fantastic great again used-car dealer I've made billions throughout the years and now I'm not gonna show you my tax returns you're just gonna have to take my word for it alright now for that let's get started so counted at number five is the 1986 to 2001 Jeep Cherokee with a 4.0 liter inline 6-cylinder engine and you can get these jeeps with either a 5-speed manual or a 4-speed automatic transmission this vehicles produce 190 horsepower and 225 pound feet of torque and I have a curb weight of two thousand nine hundred and twenty eight pounds and I can get these cars either as a two-wheel drive or a four-wheel drive vehicle and when we say four-wheel drive or 4x4 generally speaking we're talking about cars where through a gear selector you can choose to either drive the car as a two-wheel drive or let's say in under rainy conditions you can change the gear selector and drivin for high or extreme conditions like off-roading you can drive the car and for low but when we say all-wheel drive that's when the power is being sent to all four wheels at all times and you do not have the option of choosing when to be in four-wheel drive or two wheel drive these are pretty solid off-roading vehicles the 4.0 liter inline 6-cylinder engine is also pretty good it comes with a timing chain which unlike your timing belts you do not have to replace at a certain interval parts for these cars are also plentiful and fairly cheap also the engine bay is not super crowded so it's fairly easy to work on therefore it means your labor costs for any repairs are gonna be somewhat low as well as for is any common problems or issues with these vehicles will it's a Chrysler so you're gonna have to keep up with the maintenance and also you're gonna have to keep up with minor repairs here and there for example the oil filter housing is known to leak on these cars so are the transmission cooler lines your exhaust manifolds can crack causing you to have an exhaust leak so ya minor repairs like these here and there but none of these hopefully leave you stranded on the side of the road also if you're wondering these engines are also used in the jeep grand cherokees and the jeep wranglers and the same year range all right coming in at number four it's another domestic vehicle which is a 1995 to 1999 Chevy Blazer with the 4.3 liter v6 war tech engine these cars come with either a four-speed automatic transmission or a 5-speed manual these engines produce 180 horsepower and 240 pound feet of torque and these vehicles have a curb weight of 3531 to 4043 pounds and similar to the jeep you can get these cars in either a two-wheel drive or a four-wheel drive set up the 4.3 liter v6 engine on these also comes with a timing chain which again does not have to be replaced at a certain interval also the automatic transmission on these cars is fairly good it's not known to have any major defects or issues now you can also buy a newer than 1989 Chevy Blazer with this engine but those vehicles seem to have a lot of problem with the interior electrical equipment which can get pretty annoying and expensive but the 4.3 liter v6 engine on these cars is pretty solid and it's not unheard of with proper maintenance to last above three or four hundred thousand miles even as far as common issues or problems with these vehicles I can think of two things off the top of my head first is the EGR valve sticking open due to carbon buildup and when that happens you're basically having a massive vacuum leak which could cause your car to run very rough at idle or maybe not even start and the second one is the intake manifold gasket on these tends to fail from time to time causing a vacuum leak which again causes a lean condition which will result in your engine running poorly and again if you're wondering these engines were also used in other GM products like the Chevy Astro vans the Chevy s10 pickups GMC safari vans and the GMC Sonoma alright so coming in at number three we're going to vehicle from a previous list which is a 2002 to 2006 second generation Honda CRV this vehicles come with a 2.4 liter VTEC 4-cylinder engine and either a four-speed or a 5-speed automatic or manual transmission the engines on these course produce 160 horsepower and hundred and sixty two pot feet of torque and these vehicles have a curb weight of three thousand three hundred and forty seven pounds making it these Honda's series with two setups either with the front-wheel drive setup or what Honda calls it their real time four-wheel drive setup which basically means under normal conditions you're gonna be driving using your front wheels but if the front wheels start to slip the real wheels would then engage basically turning the car into a four-wheel drive or all-wheel drive vehicle especially since you do not have the option or a gear selector to choose when you want to drive it as a front-wheel drive or four-wheel drive as I've said before you want to try to get these second generation Honda CRVs and not the older first generation Honda CRVs because those vehicles issues with birth valves and the cylinder head and if that happens you're gonna lose compression and in order to fix that you're gonna have to rebuild the Songer head or in other words the top-end of your engine which can get pretty costly but with the second generation Honda series Honda not only upgraded the engine from the 2.0 liter to the 2.4 liter but also got rid of that burnt a valve issue that the first generations had and overall these engines are pretty solid they don't have any major defects or problems the transmission are also decent they don't seem to have the major transmission problems that Honda had with their v6 engines as we talked about like their Honda Odyssey and Acura TL s but there's one issue with these cars and that's with the AC compressors on these vehicles these compressors tend to fail internally and when that happens you have metal fragments going throughout your AC system and in order to fix that you're gonna have to not only replace stacie compressor but your AC condenser and other AC components which can add up to a pretty penny all right next at number 2 we have a 1996 2 year 2000 Nissan Pathfinder these vehicles come with a 3.3 liter single overhead cam v6 engine and a four-speed automatic or a five six manual transmission the engines on these course produce 168 horsepower and hundred 96 pound-feet of torque and these vehicles have a kerb weight of three thousand six hundred and seventy-five to four thousand and twenty pounds and these pathfinders come in two setups either as a two-wheel drive or a four-wheel drive a 3.3 liter v6 engine on these cars is pretty reliable similar to the 3.0 liter engines that Nissan was making for their Maximas in the 90s these engines are pretty solid they don't have any common issues or problems that you need to be afraid of and in fact these 3.3 liter engines are so reliable Nissan is still making them till this day and selling them in the Chinese market as first common issues or problems with these vehicles well if you live in the Rust Belt rust could be an issue for you so if you go to buy one of these you want to make sure you get underneath and inspect the undercarriage and all different components down there very closely make sure nothing is majorly rusted out also the transmission on these cars if they have not been properly maintained or abused by a previous owner they could fail but the failure rate and these transmissions is not super high so the engine on these cars does come with the timing belts and is an interference engine which means if you don't replace the timing belts on time and if it breaks your valves with his your Pistons causing major engine failure which results and you either needing to rebuild the top end of your engine or replacing the engine altogether and again these 3.3 liter v6 engines on these pathfinders were also used in the infiniti QX force in the same year range as well alright next it's time for number one the tada and that is a third-generation toyota 4runner made from 1996 to 2002 these cars come with a 3.4 liter dual overhead cam v6 engine and either with a four-speed automatic or 5-speed manual transmission the engines on these cars produce 180 horsepower and 217 poun feet of torque and these vehicles have a curb weight of three thousand nine hundred and thirty pounds and again you can get these with either a two wheel drive setup or a four-wheel drive setup now finding one of these for under three thousand in southern for Nia is not too hard to do but I'm gonna take an educated guess and assume in some parts of the country you may not be able to find one of these funders three grands if that's the case you may want to look into the second generation twitter for runners but those come with a 3.0 liter v6 engine and they do have the problem with their head gaskets failing especially once you get to a higher mileage you know close to 200,000 miles or so so if you do want to buy one of those you want to make sure that the cooling system has been properly maintained the timing belts with along with the water pump has been replaced you wanna check the radiator replace the thermostat all that good stuff now as far as the 3.4 liter engines on these cars these engines are really solid they're practically bulletproof probably one of the most reliable engines to it has ever made they do not have the head gasket issue that the 3.0 liter engines had the transmission and these cars are also pretty good with proper maintenance that should last you a long time well over 200,000 miles but you want to keep in mind the engine does come with the timing belts but the engine is a non-interference engine which means if the timing belt breaks the valves will not hit your Pistons and cause catastrophic engine failure so there you have it those are my top 5 picks for reliable SUV for under 3 grand now before you go I'm gonna answer another question that you're probably asking which is where can i buy some awesome R and W brand apparel that's right moving up in the world got my
