Top 3 Best and WORST Basses of 2023

hi my name is Sono jono and this is my top three best and worst bases of 2023 starting off at number three for the worst base category we have here the ianz sr500e better known as Aurora Borealis sure it looks like the northern lights but the quality control I had experienced was more of a northern plight a cracked fingerboard and noisy electronics for the asking price of $700 you'd expect a great experience from an ianz base but it wasn't the case will I try the aora Borealis base again in 2024 absolutely sliding into the second worst basee of 2023 and it's a beauty meet the Fender American Ultra precision based and an umbra burst finish with a Madagascar ebony fingerboard sounds fancy right this one's nearly a $3,000 instrument for the price let's hear how it sounds [Music] despite its snazzy looks the sound was as generic as can be for your average PJ base with a three band preamp I mean I get it it's a Guitar Center limited edition exclusive and yeah it comes with a hard showcase but at that price hell no before we unveil the grand loser of 2023 let's acknowledge another not so great base enter the fender player British racing green Precision [Music] base this base is like paying for a high-priced meal for it to taste similar to something that you could have gone elsewhere at a cheaper price or make yourself at home can anyone relate to this analogy Fender really mastered The Art of Doing the bare minimum and raising the price at a high dollar I have a challenge for everyone find a used Fender P Bas and it doesn't have to be a player series slap on a quarter pounder pickup and you got yourself a fender PE base with a quarter pounder pickup for less than what the British racing green is offering a simple upgrade without the inflated price tag disagree the numbers don't lie and the math is definitely math and so well this won't come as a surprise to win the worst base of 2020 3 topping the worst base without any drum roll needed or this card for a matter of fact Defender M signature base oh my God bro oh hell no man what the it's not just me saying this is the worst base even base reviewer Patrick Hunter called it a disappointment and I agree by the way thanks for the shout out the bridge pickup is as thin as M Cur patience and the neck pickup a bit of a hot mess but the only redeeming [Music] feature the bridge alignment off like a bad April fools joke especially that g string and how it sounded all of these amazing QC flaws for the price of $1600 ah classic Fender making legendary moves by charging a fortune for less than Stellar quality it's basically a talent from Fender at this point what is it which gives me joy overall the micro signature base is really just a one trick pony sure some fans May disagree with that comment but when you say that it's meant to be played with the effects and not clean you're basically agreeing with me so thank you for backing up my point I just wanted to say thanks partner remember to like And subscribe if you haven't already okay moving on from the Dreadful basis of 2023 let's brighten things up with my top three best bases of 2023 this base is a former honorable mention and a personal favorite it's the ivanz btb Volo 33 quirky and Niche just like me it's got this cool 33in scale and rocks a unique e Toc tuning instead of the usual b2g for a five stream you could go standard but where's the fun in that when the Volo 33 from ianz is all about playing those beautiful chords and Melody [Music] all right well let's not let's not go there coming in second place that nearly stole first The Squire paranormal Rascal base in this exclusive shell pink finish from Fender that is no longer available to purchase The Vibes this base delivers with rounds and flat lounds is a squire superstar in [Music] 2023 [Music] however after some time from ownership I noticed how ergonomically challenging it can be on the lap and being heavy for its size it's not your typical short scale base hence the Paranormal name earning it a solid second place on my list I was considering not to add this base to the list of 2020 3 because I modded this base however it deserves an honorable mention give it up for the Squire Sonic series Precision base in an exclusive lime green finish from Fender that is once again no longer available to purchase it's got the aesthetic Vibe going on and if you know me from last year I'm all about the Aesthetics Aesthetics in a base are important if that looks fine like real real fine I got to pick that up what surprised me the most is the quality setup and finish right out of the box it was perfect while the stock pickup sounded too hot for my personal taste I went and upgraded the pickups to EMG gazer Butler pickups making it a killer sounding budget base for under $300 and to this day I still fight between rounds or flat rounds on this base cuz they just both sound so good to help my indecisiveness I want everyone to comment rounds or flat rounds for this Squire lime green Precision [Music] base man still so good now to Crown the best base of 2023 give it up for The Sire V5 24 fret Jazz base a comfortable base with great specs for under $11,000 it's such a good base for the value and quality that just blows Fender out of the water the tone of The Sire just speaks to me it's like it's reigniting my old soul when it comes to that vintage tone and Vibe I just get from those stock [Music] pickups it's going to be really hard to convince me to swap out those stock pickups because they just sound so good I was never so thrown from a stock pickup until sire came into my life this year in 2023 I'm looking forward to owning the V5 24 again and a five string version as well as the new sire bases lined up for 2024 that I just can't wait to get my hands on to review and to potentially own to my collection of bases in 2024 I got to say making this list was incredibly hard as I did not have time to review more of
