okay okay ah I got it it's nothing Oh this videos ted overdue I'm not gonna lie it was supposed to come out the day after the top 100 songs but I got tired I didn't get any sleep that night so what I decided to do was be a bit more responsible and productive as an adult and instead of filming it at 6:00 in the morning after a night of no sleep already now I'm filming in the very middle of the night at 3:00 in the morning where I probably won't get sleep again moment we've all been waiting for the top 100 albums of the decade these are the albums that gave me the most pleasure the most fun experience over the past 10 years from 2010 to 2020 2019 I'm sorry lissa let's not waste any more time hop right in the list at number 100 got some that might surprise you all but not really to the ones that really know me Brice until his trap soul fuses are and being trapped which may have actually been the death of soulful R&B being a popularity thing earlier on but I don't I don't mind it too much and only one who did it well to me was Bryson tiller there's a bunch of people that came out after the fact doing it and I know he was inspired by P and D and Drake heavily in the weekend but I gotta say he put it together nicely on trap soul I got a lot of enjoyment out of it number 99 I got love remains from how to dress well at number 98 I've got no worries featuring Andersen pokken knowledge skepta is defiant and energetic konichiwa Kacey Musgraves Golden Hour we'll just just catchy country music scissors control where she essentially gives up control pink comes to terms with her lack of authority in the world over 94 I've got serpent with feets soil I've got James Blake self-titled at number 93 number 92 I have chief Keef's finally rich at number 91 I've got 21 in offsets without warning this was something I originally gave like a 6 out of 10 to one first listen I've come back to it at least a couple times every month since 2017 I absolutely love this album now it's short it's sweet it's concise it's it's to the point and it's catchy it's enjoyable every song damn-near this is where 21 really started to hit his stride in terms of injury ability and where offset I feel finally was acknowledged as one of the better me goes at number ninety I've got Rick Ross's Teflon Don which is arguably his most consistently enjoyable project yet number 89 I've got long live ASAP and I find myself coming back to this album more every year even though I think it's a really mid album there must be some reason in the back of my mind that I'm just not acknowledging that gets me to come back to it every so often my favorite cinematic soul record of the decade goes to Michael Kiwanuka at my number 88 spot at my number 87 spot it is flock of le and flock of le 1.5 from waka flocka flame who takes gangsta rap and puts it in its most extremist terms and I mean unnerving illogical extremities on these two projects at number 86 I've got apathy honky Kong who delivers one of his most consistently lyrically enjoyable albums yet at number 85 I've got Beyonce with lemonade who reopens and heals her wounds from her marriage making herself very transparent and ultimately coming off stronger as a woman at number 84 I've got young thug's barter 6 who stretches rat far beyond its comfort zone speaking the language that many rap fans myself included it wouldn't understand for years to come and the replayability of this album is great and it's aged like wine at number 83 I've got drinks if you're reading this it's too late a very confident aggressive roar to the rap game that despite his lack of experience as a gangster Drake is still a force to be reckoned with and whether you liked him or not at the time Kanye presented himself as is for a very brutally honest sit down on the life of Pablo Michi zombie juice and Eric all have very distinct personalities on and off the mic but still managed to bring all that energy together for their for their most cohesively dark album yet with better off dead which is actually mixtape I believe but you know oh wait that's funny too cuz I actually finally was able to get it in vinyl it's kind of a bootleg but I got it I still haven't opened it yet it looks beautiful at number 80 I've got me oz with coach who cemented themselves as one of the most important groups in hip-hop history yes in hip-hop history literally adding to and defining the culture last decade you couldn't talk about culture without also talking about the migos in the 2010s at number 79 I've got made fratty with pi sobre la tierra they capture nature in a bottle and reconnect us to the soils of the earth ds2 at number 78 future drags us into an abyss of hopelessness launching us into a world of vulnerable toxicity not necessarily trying to defend it but only trying to describe its mechanisms and how it works a surprising amount of detail as well 77 twigs defines herself in a world of art pop R&B an experimental hip-hop without lending a particular or typical persona to either genre amick jenkins conceptually links water to everything good and beneficial for you drenched in aquatic li produced overtones on the waters Solange hits us with a cohesive record on life as a black woman in America on a seat at the table Lords melodrama is exactly what it sounds like in soufiane Stevens takes us back to folk with a tragically intimate tale of curiosity grief in Ampera noia detailing a lack of motherhood and struggled to hold onto the simplicity's of the world that at one point gave him euphoria on Carey and Lowell 72 I believe I have team and Paula's current album number 71 I believe I have gorillas with Plastic Beach and honestly gorillas with Plastic Beach is like the cultural collision it's like an artistic mashup the the transition from easygoing - musically redefining all barn uses pretty much everything at his disposal to create one of the most inclusive records of the decades at number 70 I believe Drake walks a fantastic line of braggadocio in an intimacy on take care its denying Janelle Monae uses whatever genre she sees fit from R&B to folk to jazz you name it to create art Android 68 is my incredibly fun and very immersive first listen to injury reserves floss album I thought this album was incredible a burst of energy mosh pit music but it's catchy is rhythmic 60 I believe I got Death Grips the money store the the first time I got no heed 866 is a beautiful acceptance of oneself with Negro Swan from blood orange I'm calling rap music from killer mic southern hip hop classic you don't have to but I am 64 I've got a clipping self title in and coming back to this it feels like a real dissection of hip-hop but it feels like more of a case study from the inside looking in sample also goes on a bit of a personal dissection a bit of a case study about himself accompanied by a soft very delicate very dreamy backdrop on process 62 we're up all night to get lucky we're up all night to get should've played the music for that one I don't know what I'm singing I by myself Shabazz Palaces releases a psychedelic yet abstract Safari accompanied by a really calm narration topical inspiration set to the side by Ishmael called black rock Marciano takes up all the space in the world making these tracks feel really crowded and almost making me giving me a sense of claustrophobia on mark burger he's sticking up all the space on these old dusty samples at number 59 the weekend captures a very melancholic sensation infuses it with a very lost confused and shadowy aesthetic on on house of balloons it's almost like if it's almost like if if 50 shades of grey was written well it's very mysterious really misty really cool really bad guy almost like R&B Batman and if I'm ranking alternative R&B albums Frank ocean's channel orange is definitely going in my top 10 all the time at number 58 and I number 57 open mike eagle he maintains wit and social awareness without creating a personality that is anti mainstream on a brick body kids still daydream that it's such a hard time to remember number 56 I've got flying lotuses cosmic grandma really the only track that I would help what I would tell someone to listen to is probably do the astral planes because because because because it's a bot at number 55 Jessica Pratt in a moonlit kind of way lends herself to your environment far away enough you know not to make you uncomfortable but managing to stay close enough at the same time to keep you comforted on quiet signs at number 54 yg struggles to maintain Fame while at the same time having all eyes on him as he goes back and forth between celebrity and street men on on on still breezy over a bunch of old school LA beats 53 I've got no names Telephone mixtape which is incredibly detailed but at the same time a very blunt with his lyricism over sometimes cartoonishly enveloping somber and sometimes playful backdrop experimental hip-hop neo soul jazz all get fused together for a possible potential trip to nirvana from flying lotuses your dead album and Lupe Fiasco in 2018 hit me with a very thought-provoking tale and possible origin and chain connection that we still share to our ancestors on Drogo sway Joey badass embodies everything that makes boom-bap hip-hop great at only 19 years old on 1999 white men are black men to is a short record disrupting classification filled with surprisingly sweet melodies from young fathers 48 slow tie intelligently and energetically bashes the establishment that oppresses his current generation generation before him and likely the generation after him with a surprising amount of wit and charisma or nothing great about Britain if you can by in childbirth indelicate soul you would get Childish Gambino's awaken my love at number 47 b6 run the jewels released their best record yet with their second install member 45 is Brock Hamptons most consistently hip hop record saturation - really strongly hip hop hero in this album and their connection feels really tight and focused on this project more so than any other in the installment in my opinion though you could argue to put the entire trilogy here because if you really want it to you could take your favorite records from each of these albums and make a perfect Brockhampton album at number 44 Duran Jones and the indications beautifully captured everything that's so great about 70s soul capsuled it in in in in 2019 with American love call the underachievers I forgot I put them here hit us with what's affecting the most from media distraction false idols to mental health all of these subjects become almost like a mantra in their music also sneezes faces on the cover so that's reason enough for me to put it on there and number 42 I've got Avondale Bowling Club their self-titled joint number 41 I've got FM from rent staples which is his shortest most consistent most concise and palatable release yet filled with a bunch of fun witty and sometimes sassy bangers some direct in some songs and others tongue-in-cheek ways to call out people for ignorant lis consuming black culture and one of the strongest voices to come out of country in the last decade has got to be Caitlyn fire as she wowed me completely with her Starfire album Fiona Apple's pin stabs you in the chest and twists endlessly on the eyelid will not seeing the rest of that illuminate wigs is at her most fragile in her most broken down to the point where consoling her might actually cause damage or Magdalene and Danny Brown and number 37 on Triple X has the energy of a five-year-old on like five pounds of sugar or a cocaine flower boy is the introduction to topic creators new acknowledged self using R&B and rap over a soul foundation at number 35 Benny the butcher releases Tanna talk 3 I believe it's 3 and that has to be one of the dirtiest one of the grimy is one of the grittiest ooh one of the nastiest most raw hungry albums I've ever heard he's like a drug dealing to her little Simms proof she's one of the most clever one of the best rappers out right now going beyond classifications that would confine her to female rap or UK rap with the gray area Billy woods abides by no tropes on history will absolve me instead for going further down his own foggy to us but clearer to himself paths of arcane obscurities oh so no I will tiara whack who leaves me wanting nothing but more on whack world an album full of 15 one-minute songs and child vocal melodies that sounds so sweet have one on me is a lengthy in-depth breakup album vocally technical that has equal parts precise and towering like a slow working poison symptoms and signs kind of show up well after the entry point and I think this is probably Joanna's most diligent and devoted project yet and Julia halter ahead of her 2011 tragedy album that was extremely innovative hits us with her most inviting and warm release yet on have you in my wilderness this whole album is like an ear massage at number 29 I believe I had Sharon vans are we there are you stupid bitten at number 28 I believe I have Denzel Curry's Tabu project Denzel curry captures paranoia anxiety and in contradicting emotions contradicting personalities pairs it with a sometimes optimistic sometimes creepy or ominous and sometimes metal rap musical foundation to further paint his reality to further paint a realistic portrayal of his environment even at its brightest a lot of this record still feels drowned out in isolation in pessimistic views and thoughts and number 27 I've got Leila's wisdom from Rhapsody at number 26 Rocky Marciano released one of the most consistent stripped-back boom-bap records of the decade with reloaded at number 25 I've got blonde from Frank Ocean who taps into a singularity amidst all the warm inviting musical aesthetics it's an album that feels like observing a man who doesn't want to be spoken to but at the same time doesn't mind being watched either and my god Pusha T cannot be ignored for one moment on daytona whatever line whatever bar all of it feels important on this album if you miss it you feel like you got to go back and reread the whole book it isn't an often occurrence when an artist can paint themselves as so good at something that despite what they're doing being an obviously bad thing the thing that they're doing almost becomes a good thing do comes off like an Olympic drug dealer on Daytona and Isaiah Rashad packed some his best moments musically and conceptually as he Burton's himself with the task of awareness but battles his own demons at the same time on Sylvia demo Earl Sweatshirt acknowledges his depression and instead of trying to find a cure ends up finding further solace in his instability on some rap songs losing this dude so young probably made a lot of people forget how strongly the spirit of hip-hop lived in capital skis but his project American corruption is easily one of the best I've heard this decade at number 20 I've got David Bowie's black star at number 19 I've got quite late Chris with being you was great I wish I could be you more often 18 is an album that is abstract but emotions are sonically painted with a wide range of color on Slauson Malone's a quiet Farwell number 17 a heartbreaking story of loss guilt and anxiety is told Sabha details his life before Fame in Chicago on care for me and number 16 I've got Fleet Foxes equal parts curious equal parts gorgeous album helplessness blues at number 15 I've got Kendrick Lamar's good kid maad city number 14 I've got schoolboy Q's blank face that is one of my favorites of the decade oh my god D'Angelo in the vanguard with black messiah you all know how I feel about this why number 12 I got Suzanne's son Flores beautiful 10 love songs that to me is just one of the best pop folk incredibly vulnerable fusions I've just I just ever heard just all-time my number 11 I've got wise blood with Titanic rising and you know it just just roll clip roll clip times filled with sorrow sometimes acknowledging a loss of control sometimes blatantly contradicting her hope in acknowledgement of her reality whichever you decide to listen can make you feel very cosmic like you're a part of something much bigger you just don't really want to acknowledge it because acknowledging that you're a part of something so grand and vast and huge would unintentionally put yourself on a pedestal which would go against everything that life has taught you now we're getting into my top 10 for the decade and number 10 I've got JPEG mafia is all my heroes are corn balls he attempts to normalize humanity and imperfections on this album attempting to dismantle the commonality and expectation of a rapper an artist a person at number nine I have rodeo from Travis Scott Lord from the enticing Maria I'm drunk to the mosh pit attraction of antidote from the dreamy angelic vocal performance Casey Hill brings to 902 102 the [ __ ] the rich [ __ ] the establishment mantra like singing from Kanye and Travis own piss on Your Grave suicide no pistol your grave is exactly what I would have wanted from Yesus for a whole album my favorite moments of the decade are from rodeo you know melodic and hypnotic trap from a non trapper subgenres commonly harsh demeanor replaced with the euphoria that one could only achieve after they've written a rollercoaster set to the troposphere and levitated there for about a couple hours Tribe Called Quest is the equivalent of Kobe Bryant dropping 64 this final game like they literally show the world why they deserve to have their names carved in the hip-hop history forever and no one and nothing no amount of trolling no amount of jokes or no amount of anything political disagreement can ever take that away from them oh no worst part about it just reminded myself of Kobe again the worst part about this is they actually both did them in 2016 Kobe dropped 60 in 2016 and A Tribe Called Quest dropped 60 in 2016 in a world where OG rappers can't seem to keep albums below 20 tracks and also done well jay-z comes through with one of his most honest introspective and genuine albums to date apologies revelations moments of forgiveness and understanding promote the perception of incredible maturity and growth on 444 number six is to be kind from swans now admittedly I became a fan of swans with this album I didn't actually know of swans until to be kind came out being introduced to them during the Reformation in the 2010s I came to understand their sound is what you could achieve or what one she if we could get a look into the chemical reaction that takes place in the brain as it transitions from sensations and moments of anxiety to a fully realized threat in the beginning there's a tide coming in in the distance that seems far away enough for you evade that eventually grows into an inescapable wall of sound it's like the visual and sound of a lion's roar in slow motion the visual end sound of you realizing danger in slow motion visual in sound of an adrenaline rush in slow motion much of to be kind seems approachable in its beginning stages then gradually mood shifts unprovoked from this calm blue sky that you want saw to an alarming bright red everything on this album is happening in slow-motion for me lyrically and sonically there's like a raw primitive instinct that flows throughout the entire album throughout the entire listen comparable to a growling stomach swelling into a cannibalistic rampage and it makes me feel like if there is an image of God on this record I'm being offered as the sacrifice at number five cause honor killed the samurai is an album that does little to prove itself necessary everything about the album is understated almost like it doesn't want to be seen or heard and music like this truly does act as a blessing for those who are attracted to people who do little to stand out being transparent using your past trauma as a backdrop while at the same time not passing yourself off as this unrealistic gangster who could have never fallen victim or fallen prey to the same environment you admit on the same record pained you so loops in dusty samples help most of these tracks play like a slow ride in the passenger seat of a late 90s to tour Tahoe through one of Kozma is he's like a poet without the competitive spirit of a rapper so he never feels the need to posture or feels the need to view anyone elses competition but he constantly repaints himself in his own image and that's what makes honor kill the samurais such a great listen for me number four I've got Freddie Gibbs in mad libs pinata album and really all I have to say about this is this is the two of them at their absolute best to me their most consistent at their most enjoyable Freddie Gibbs barring everybody on the record up having a credible amount of features to the features that are here all perform beautifully the samples that are used and are looped are fantastic Madlib is that perfect form here and I've gone back to listen to quite a bit of his solo work and this is easily one of his best it brought out each other's strengths 100% on pinata and it makes me a little sad that this didn't get the praise in the recognition in the awareness that an album like bandana did not saying that bad in isn't a great album but this is like their magnum opus a West I hate the term living in your truth but my Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy is literally everything I feel like the world needed at that time and although it's not his most influential record I do I do think it's one of his most impactful because if anything it encourages people to 100% be themselves 100% be authentic 100% do the things that you seek pleasure in and to explore those thoughts explore those possibilities so acts like power devil and a new dress runaway bus in the world gorgeous monster I mean how you accidentally give Nicki Minaj her best performance that this has to mean something this might be Kanye's Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy but it encourages listeners to really live in their dreams and explore them now to explain my number two pick I would also have to explain my number one pick so I'm gonna get it out of the way now and it probably is gonna surprise a lot of people especially how much I might bring up a race on this channel but number two is going to be Kendrick Lamar's to pimp a butterfly and me putting this out number two was in a slide against the record in the slightest I think the record at my number one spot in the record at my number two spot this tip abut ER fly record are both tins I think they're both fantastic records tip number butterfly does such an amazing job using jazz rap soul to enforce these ideas of responsibility struggle pain sorrow the responsibility and the weight that would be on someone's shoulders of you know racial awareness trying to move forward and up in the world trying to add more value to yourself while at the same time not trying to see that value as a dollar sign trying to move forward in the world through means of art but not trying to be worth just your art try not to be pimped through the industry while at the same time being a man before being black and it really does for me personally beg the question after five years of listening is the music industry the right place for a black artist am i helping my community or hurting them by being in the position that I'm in if I am do I really want to acknowledge that question me finally being away from the danger that I used to be in if I'm not how do I help that community that I'm so far removed from now due to this lifestyle that's been given to me by the industry that I'm in how do I help them while not being silenced how do I help them and entertain them and give them kind of a distraction from their environment in their situation while at the same time trying to get them to be aware of it is it healthy is it realistic for me to put that responsibility on myself should I think about it at all am i doing the right thing if I don't think about it am i doing the right thing if I do think about it such a stressful album to listen to it's so much acknowledgement and work put into a record like that I sometimes want so badly to just rip the headphones out of my ears when I'm listening to a record off to pimp a butterfly but I feel kind of like Kendrick in the way that if I'm not listening to this or if I'm not hearing it then I'm ignoring it and I feel like I am not doing my due diligence to make sure I'm aware of the situation I've said this before it's a pimp a butterfly is literally an album where you are being your own spotter in the gym and you have so much weight on your shoulders you have so much weight that you're pressing and if you drop it there is no one there to save you just thinking about it makes me regret not putting it at number one but my number one spot which after discussing you the importance of a record like this you probably be surprised that I would put something like atrocity exhibition as my album of the decade which I'm going to do for the simple fact that while Kendrick Lamar's to pimp a butterfly does in fact capsule my experience danny brown's atrocity exhibition captures my imagination and it throws it into an album like atrocity exhibition is an album that i will never live i will never experience what danny brown is is discussing on atrocity exhibition and that's what makes me want to live through that album more are there topics and racial undertones in an album like atrocity exhibition there are are there things that you could be made aware of due to the the the way that danny brown is rapping about these issues you can't if it's wacky weird delivery doesn't take you out of thinking about any type of responsibility first the instrumentals that are so jarring and bizarre on this record 100% will producers like Black Milk play a haze The Alchemist its album is a drug party that's gone on well beyond its run time it's lasted for more than just a couple hours it's gone into the days and the weeks atrocity exhibition is an album that I can only relate to in my nightmares this album hits you like a cramp and I don't believe this is an album that will influence many because I doubt many people were trying to recreate or even show their inspiration from an album like this this to me is what capturing lightning in a bottle feels like ridiculously off-the-cuff percussions all over the album the the druggie and very dizzy atmosphere of it all listening to it feels like having a fever in a rush at the same time to stop before I keep going with these unnecessary metaphors is this is an album that I can enjoy because it's a place that I'll never be well it makes the album necessary it has a it has a place of necessity in my life you know that listening to it's a member butterfly despite its importance may at the same time make me somewhat sad me at the same time make me somewhat angry this is what I feel is is is creativity at its finest to me this is what I feel illustrating and painting something in in and capturing sensations feels like on an album and I think he did a fantastic job with it he is my number one pick for album of the decade Danny Browns atrocity exhibition and that's how I feel about it I really enjoyed having this little mini talk this little mini discussion about the music that I enjoyed the most over the last decade you let me know what your favorite albums were in the comments section down below obviously not your top 100 but limit it to maybe your top 5 your top 10 and let me know what you've been listening to over the last decade this has definitely been a trying decade but I want to thank everybody I guess for tuning in it hasn't been that long I've been uploading on this channel for about three and a half years now and we made a lot of growth in progress so far and I appreciate all that and I'm looking forward to talking about the hundred albums that'll hopefully go on my albums of the decade for 2030 you know if everything's still around then this video might be really long sorry for that but yeah this is Sean C's top 100 albums of the 20 tons and that's it I'm out you'll have a good one and I'll see y'all next time peace
