[Music] oh [Music] well i played fair and covered the best that the color zero had to offer now let's dig deep into the ugly side of this meta era i want to make something clear first this video isn't calling the color zera a complete travesty that destroyed the franchise most of the games range from fine to great and there are only a few that i despise what i want to address is a topic that needs discussion the writing and direction of the characters and their world we care about these characters who want our hearts and the world of sonic is rich with regions cultures and lore the color zera sacrificed further exploration of them for simplicity with that the quality of the stories has been less than inspiring the characters feel like parodies of their old selves the mythos of this world is now it's just a game don't think about it and the stakes are so low these might as well be spin-offs also this is not an attack on sega sonic team takashi izuka writers ken pontak or warren graf the voice actors who portray these characters in this era or the fans who enjoy these games none of these people should get any scorn one more thing some moments you like might be here i'm not saying you're dumb or you're not a true sonic fan the term true fan is stupid in the first place i want to go over the moments that were painful to sit through now let's dive in and see the top 10 worst color zero moments shadow smug intro team sonic racing shadow wasn't all bad in this game he was dead set on the mission sonic quit fooling around we need to focus on eggman that's all well and good but did he have to be so stingy when we first see him sonic i'm the ultimate life form i could never lose to you you suck the rivalry between sonic and shadow is old news we're not in central city or prison island friendly competition is one thing but he's talking down to sonic like he's a punk who could never match his skills it's as if team sonic racing felt there was a checklist that needed to be filled out whenever shadow appears can shadow not be a douche team babylon fighting sonic free riders you've got some nerve sonic free riders you treated team babylon like dirt and tossed them away as soon as this era began in the team sonic story they lost in the finals so jet and storm berate way for their mishap they are way too ill-tempered towards her what the heck was that wave did you even tune our gear before the race i know the babylon rogues aren't the closest of friends but they understand each other wave designed their gear she's arguably their most valuable member and jet goes berserk on her the downgraded storm who's now a dumb goon joins in and blames her well it ain't the boss's fault if he says he lost cause of you it's cause of you and wave snaps back at them and even tails she does apologize afterwards but still this is the most dysfunctional they've ever been technical difficulties aren't the problems here the lamest battle scene ever sonic forces the selling point of sonic forces was that it's the game for everybody classic fans who love old school sonic new fans who enjoy the boost games and fans of the adventure and dark years who want the additional heroes to make a comeback this was never gonna fly the game couldn't commit to one factor without compromising another sorry doesn't go both ways for us adventure and dark fans we got a shallow 20-second long fan service battle where they fight infinite's illusion army omega shows up but he doesn't exactly change the outcome like when he fought mephilus it really doesn't help that the animation is awful there's no oomph in any of these attacks the illusions have as much weight as balloons look at shadow lightly hovering through them the movements of the illusions and anthro extras are copy pasted oh and this is sonic's game face i know there are a lot of models to work with but they wanted to show this battle if you ask me the heroes were wasted in this game yeah they're in it but they're not really there these guys are written as lazy idiots who are heavily dependent on sonic as if he's the only one who can make a difference he gets out of the death egg and the good side wins in a couple of hours everyone in this room is an experienced fighter and they sit in a bunker for six months not one of them fought back i think if they all teamed up they could have been infinite on day one sonic and the newbie avatar can kick his ass you can't just dip your toe in it celebrate these characters make them more involved in the right way and do better with the animation [Music] operation big wave sonic forces it's time for the big assault on eggman's unguarded metropolis headquarters the leader of the resistance knuckles after forming his brilliant strategy in a minute and a half decides to storm the base with a full frontal assault how does it work out no use our troops are scattering in the confusion 80 of our forces have been wiped out i just why why was that line in there a minute and a half of planning this should have been removed and he sounded so proud of himself for his half-assed plan i'm calling it operation big wave it is a bad bad plan that will hurt many people that are good i think it's great capital city is one of the better stages within a distorting reality but we hear the majority of your allies being obliterated snake squad requesting reinforcements ironically the game that was meant to deter the image of knuckles being a dumb ass contradicted itself it's either get lifted by chipmunks or put soldiers on a suicide mission pick your stupid the pre-boss battle cutscenes sonic colors the writing of sonic colors is intended mainly for little kids similar to an old-fashioned saturday morning cartoon in my opinion the game is less of 87 ninja turtles and more of next mutation look there's nothing wrong with kids being the target audience attacking the power of juju is a kid's game but it hit that right balance if you can take the staff from me you are meant to have it whoa oh man that's my fighting arm what a drag sonic colors keeps hammering it in the worst of it is in the prelude to each boss fight big man acknowledging that he's a failure is not a good sign the energy is way too low for us to get hyped look how sonic walks through the battleship while hunching out of disappointment even the finale is like a desiccal have the robots fire missiles at sonic he would dodge them and run to the robot pump us up captain jelly sort of does that but it's too minor and the jokes they're already bad but this game went the extra mile to explain one before the first boss fight sonic is up there with cubot as the most irritating character he never shuts the hell up he's always always always always always always always quipping you can let a few moments breathe instead of dragging things out by talking to the nonverbal giant robots hey did somebody here order a clobbering are you sure it says somebody ordered an extra-large clobbering topped with everything okay tell you what i can't take this thing back so i'll give you an extra large clobbering for nothing hope you're hungry this is the most annoying sonic has ever been how many times does this game want me to say okay i get it you're not dark and angsty as bad as these were a certain game did it worse and the copyright line doesn't do it for me either the pre-final boss cutscene sonic generations generations had the right idea for its boss fights sucking us up with action set pieces except for the last one sonic yaps to the time meter like he's in colors again in a twist eggman and his past counterpart have full control of the deity between sonic adventure and unleashed there has been this trip where eggman attempts to use a god of destruction to rule the world but it betrays him and steals the show as the final boss i was legit surprised by this that's where the positives stop though eggman explaining the situation goes on for way too long and they do some self-reflection where classic eggman realizes how over the top his future self is when he laughs so hard it hurts again he's the final boss for a 3d supersonic fight for the first time ever give him some dignity even though the space time continuum is implied to be on the brink of collapse i don't buy the stakes we're in a room disconnected from the rest of the world we don't see buildings consumed by a blinding light or people in terror while we're on the subject the time meter is the least impressive of the gods it has no origin no personality and it didn't even do much aside from transporting characters to the pleasant white space it's not all that intimidating the eggman duo one ups the sonic duo then the supporting characters band together and give him emotional support none of them fight they're just as cheerleaders i'm so glad you're here i can't really use your help just tell us what to do stand over there and cheer me on what but i have ninja powers jimmy on bra sonic no sonic sonic you can do it then the sonic duo goes super to the beat of time to scramble some eggman super sonic style sonic 4 yeah might as well this is without a doubt the least exciting super sonic cutscene every other cutscene did so much better than this say what you will about the kiss with elise but the part where sonic shares his power with shadow and silver and seeing them blast off together to defeat solaris this cutscene is a dull lead into the most disappointing super battle at least it's appropriate [Music] the ending of sonic the hedgehog 4 episode 2 what a waste of time sonic 4 was a cheap nostalgia phone game it disguised as a sequel to the classics that overstayed its welcome the second episode which was a sonic 2 and cd hybrid brought little planet from sonic cd back not just brought it back but encapsulated it in the death egg mark ii and it stays in there forever apparently that's how the game ends sonic entails our heroes ditch little planet even if you get all the chaos emeralds it's doomed to be eggman's prisoner this is a testament to how little investment was put into the episodic game what would have happened at the end of episode 3. angel island would be infested with the black plague and destroyed by godzilla sonic and tails look like selfish dicks why wouldn't they free little planet was the episode unfinished was the rest planned for a future episode after sonic 4 has been discontinued the short-lived saga ends on a sour note that would make any fan of sonic cd cringe sonic's not gonna like little planet's new message for him [Music] amy and sonic freeriders wow amy's unlikable here she's gone from lovable caring girl to the coach who yells at her players for not winning she carelessly left queen behind in a rush to enter the grand prix and spat pilot vector every time she shares the screen with him she blames him for team rose's losses and throws tantrums about how she's not being treated with the royalties she should be you know that sonic never holds back amy i thought you liked that about him but i'm supposed to be the one exception huh exceptionally dense did you just you expect me to believe that the kind-hearted girl who defended gamma from sonic would be this bratty amy that's one of eggman's clunkers out of my way no he helped me before by letting me escape this robot is different you don't need to hurt him okay the biggest kid in kindergarten okay that's enough i'll have you know our team has only one useless kid on it i never thought i would hate amy but free writers the force of destruction that it is does its magic is there a sonic character that's been more deformed than her there is tails in sonic lost world tales got the shiniest treatment out of all the characters he was shoved into each game for sonic 2 decoration and nothing else he's a background extra with no actual role or meaning he was whatever in colors and generations but lost world headed out for him i hate tales in this game with free writers amy we knew what was coming tails unlikability came out of nowhere in the beginning of lost world tales is pretty calm and easy going nothing suspicious here science entails form a truce with eggman to stop the deadly six then all of a sudden tails we need eggman to shut down his machine and you don't trust me to do it what no i trust you tails it's just that no you don't you trust eggman more it begins tails goes through an unintentional negative character arc where his arrogance drives him to curse sonic's name until he caves in and gives baby his bottle tails had nowhere to protest when the agreement was made and an hour later sonic expressed clear disinterest in cooperating with eggman but tail saw this as trusting eggman more the story ends with sonic learning his lesson tails is the smartest never have the gall to doubt his intelligence or let anyone else help you the story was building up to a lesson about being patient and not hastily jumping into a situation where you end up making a big mistake hmm something's not right huh must have missed this one [Music] past the halfway point the story gave up on that and swerved to a new moral if your friend isn't kissing your ass yell at them treat the person assisting them with disdain and you'll get the praise you deserve to cap it off scold your friend for not going to you in the first place if we were able to fight tails like the game promised that would have been nice i'll give it this it's not the worst tales moment cutscene 5 sonic forces i've referenced this a lot in my videos and for good reason it's that insulting in case you never watched it let's walk through it together tails is fixing omega up we've never seen them talk to each other in a custody with voice acting i'd like to see that then illusion chaos zero appears tails is petrified of chaos and screams for sonic to save him then out of the portal comes [Music] out boys [Music] classic sonic straight out of the final battle of sonic mania beats illusion chaos with one spin jump tails realizes that he's the same classic from generations but confirms that he's from another dimension not the past given sonic team's retcon tails justifies the update in the timeline by saying that makes sense why put omega in there if he's not going to do anything until the finale if infinite can create illusions why sell for cast zero and not make copies of perfect chaos why is an illusion cast even in here we never get to fight him the trailer's fault in him just so us adventure fans would buy the game shame on you unless this is a parody you can't mend a paradox in the canon with a line that makes sense how can you possibly have a 13 year old son when you yourself are only seven right right right that makes sense did classic sonic have to be in this game classic had no impact on the plot mania forces aren't exactly connected classic is an unwanted guest who hogged the spotlight from tails and tails even though at this point he's more than capable of defending himself the sight of cass zero who was one of the easiest boss battles in the franchise is so terrifying to him he undoes his development after 25 years by turning around and pleading for sonic's help off at least he had a backbone in lost world he doesn't even try to fight on his own just like with the egg puns earlier in sonic adventure he had to learn that you need to fight your own battles he defended station square from eggman and became his own hero nah screw that what should have happened was tails would crop in a corner sucking his thumb in sonic adventure 2 tails should have cried after sonic's supposed death and handed eggman the real chaos emerald he can't beat him all by himself he's only tails what is tails now inactive tech genius vain [ __ ] defenseless little kid anything anything but confident hero that kids can look up to it's all here missed opportunities disregard for continuity bait and switch false trailer hype and bastardization of a fan favorite character the worst moment of the colors era and perhaps the worst sonic moment ever if not at least it's up there sorry for my rage mode back there let me in the video the right way while i do enjoy games like generations media and lost world to an extent i'm not a fan of this era this all started as an escape from the backlash of the darkyuri games specifically shadow and o6 i can't blame sonic team for seeing sonic 4 and colors as the logical solution at the time but when it comes at the cost of the quality of the characters fancy door you need to stop and think about where we're going sonico 6 indirectly sparked this era but that game is 15 years old sonic colors is an old game too sonic calling eggman baldi magno's hair and tails being a non-playable sidekick has been the norm for a while this isn't the game we should be worried about this is good luck finding someone who can say forces is their favorite sonic game sonic team can do better we've experienced better you hear a lot of people say only gameplay matters but bad writing and disrespect to the characters can make the play through better let's get the whole package at the risk of making this video outdated what video isn't i think it's time for the colors era to end it served its purpose we got a decades worth of games that supplied its target demographic with simple sonic only games fill with comedy for better or worse and visuals referencing the old days and let's not forget this is the longest an era has lasted we're way past the point of the major turn 11 years ago being refreshing it's gotten plain over time after literally generations we're ready to move forward if the color zera is done or soon to be done with i sure as hell won't miss it you're that sonic from another dimension aren't you that does not make sense [Music] you
