happy holidays everyone and in the spirit of the season I decided I wanted to do something a little more fun today if this isn't your first time on the channel undoubtedly you already know I grew up Mormon and recently a lot of you have been sending me a video suggestion called top 10 things Mormons don't want their members to know something like that I haven't watched it yet because I was planning on doing this video for a while so I will watch it after this but I want to get this out of the way just in case there are some crossover facts I don't want to accidentally take any points or anything like that so once again I'm mister atheist let's do this [Music] 10 of the weirdest facts about Mormonism number 10 God was once just some dude Mormons believe that God's eternal plan of happiness provides a way for anyone they identify as a man to become a God themself men will get their own universes they'll create all of their own spirit children then they'll have their own people they'll go through their own plan of salvation and basically as God is I can aspire to be the Mormon prophet Lorenzo snow famously said as man is God once was as God is man may become Mormons believe that there is basically an endless cycle of this that God had his own God and that God had a God before that and that's gone on for reverse eternity that it has never had a beginning I know that's impossible take it up with them so once upon a time God was a lowly mortal like us with his own sins in his own problems and he would have repented of those sins gone through his God's plan of salvation and become a god himself number 9 earth will become a giant magic crystal this one is kind of pretty straightforward and parts of it come from just general Christianity in the Bible but there is an extension of that brought into Mormonism basically they believe the earth will be baptized by fire and on the other side of that the earth will basically be a giant crystal that will be a part of the heavenly plan this crystal will also be a Urim and Thummim I don't have time to go into what that means but it will basically give the inhabitants magic powers this crystal earth will also be ruled by Jesus Christ now you can go online to forums and find people argue about whether or not this will be this celestial kingdom or the Telestial Kingdom if you want to where Mormons believe in different levels of heaven only the celestial kingdom is where people become gods but whatever it is Jesus rules it and it gives its inhabitants powers rule number eight make sure to shake Satan's hand the doctrine in covenant includes guidances from joseph smith on how to detect if a messenger from God is legit so if one were to appear to you and say they have a message from God you are asked to shake their hand if it is an angel you will feel their hand if it is a man who has been made perfect basically a resurrected angel someone who's already gone through coming to earth and getting their their body and stuff they will not shake your hand but they will just give the message anyway if it is a demon or the devil pretending to be an angel if you attempt to shake his hand you will feel nothing not unlike going to a child's piano recital number seven unholy skin color this one is just what it sounds like Mormons believe that black people African people have a dark skin because they are descendants of Cain and that that is a result of the curse that was put on Cain in his lineage additionally the Book of Mormon contains the story of the Nephites and Lamanites the Lamanites were the more wicked people at least four parts of the Book of Mormon and as a result God turned their skin to black also a part of historical Mormon doctrine is that after we die anyone who is not white will be made white and delightsome modern-day mormon apologetics attempt to walk that back but the belief is still shared amongst much of the membership and still exists there in history number six Jesus Christ in America one of the central themes and most important beliefs to the Mormons is that Jesus Christ actually visited the promised land believed to be the american continent after his death there he healed the sick he talked to the children and he spoke to the inhabitants of the american continent before teleporting back to old jerusalem to finish up everything there they also believed that many of the signs of jesus christ's birth and death were shared on the american continent for example they believed that when he was born rather than have a day a night in a day there was a day a day in a day the opposite happens at his death a night to day in a night was replaced with a night two nights in a night though in this case a totally black night with absolutely no visibility events that the Mormons believe happened worldwide and yet weren't recorded in any non religious texts despite their being very literate civilizations at the time number five posthumous baptism this is something that as a Mormon I got to participate in I got to go be baptized on behalf of people who are dead Mormons believe that when you die if you have not been baptized in this lifetime or say like in my case you basically rejected your baptism you will go to a place called spirit prison where you will be learning Mormonism the gospel of Christ and and what they believe until somebody is baptized on your behalf and at that point you will be released the church has seen some controversy over this as there seems to be no limits to who they will posthumously baptize for example the likes of both Anne Frank and Hitler have been baptized on behalf of multiple times actually just in case the first ones didn't take that last lines a joke number four what is the deal with the Mormon underwear I've talked about this plenty on my channel with the modesty stuff Mormons do like to control what their membership wears they have guidelines for modesty which much more target who they identify as women than the men but additionally once you go through the temple and you receive your endowments which will actually talk about more in a moment it is then asked of you to wear this underwear that which you're actually only allowed to wear to ongoing as long as you keep passing your worthiness interviews that actually can be taken away from you it's quite modest underwear it covers a whole lot and it includes symbols half of a square and a V on the breasts and a line on the knee these symbols actually represent things the half a square represents the justice of God the V represents a compass and the North Star and the line on the leg represents the concept of every knee shall bow and every tongue confess that Jesus is Lord there are actually other details that go into it but those are the most obvious number three Cain is Bigfoot okay this one almost made it to number one it was pretty hard to decide which order to put these last three now not all Mormons will directly admit that they believe Cain is Bigfoot but included a Mormon literature is a book called the miracle of forgiveness in it is included a story by an old Apostle named David W Patton the story was an encounter between Patton and an individual he claimed to be Cain here as part of that passage as I was riding along the road on my mule I suddenly noticed a very strange person walking beside me his head was about even with my shoulders as I sat in my saddle he wore no clothing but was covered with hair his skin was very dark I asked him where he dwelt and he replied that he had no home that he was a wanderer in the earth and had travelled to and fro he said he was a very miserable creature and his mission was to destroy the souls of men there's more to the story and more to the lore Mormons believe that only an apostle or prophet could actually kill Cain but because of this physical description of Cain it has led many Mormons to believe that big foot and cane are one in the same and in fact this story which became largely mainstream in the mid 1900s led to increased sightings of Bigfoot in Utah number two the password to get into heaven Mormons have a secret endowment ceremony that takes place in the temple now they will say it's not so much that it's secret it's that it's holy and that we don't talk about holy fangs well allow me to a big part of the Mormon endowment ceremony is basically a ripoff of old Masonic ceremonies and during this ceremony you will learn a number of key phrases as well as handshakes that will get you through the door to heaven and be asked what each of them represent and give the correct answer and then you will be let in and honestly they're really boring handshakes and phrases I think they should liven it up with at least the Carlton dance and say making the password something like password one number one Mormon aliens yes that is right Mormons believe in aliens and it gets a little weirder than that I for example think it's very likely there are aliens out there none that have interacted with us or that we can for sure say are intelligent but that biological life probably exists on more than just our planet mormons however believe that is part of this great grand plan of gods that he created several planets that he inhabited with humans and these humans are learning about the plan of salvation and jesus christ's sacrifice which happened on our planet but they're learning about it on their own planet via prophets and such yes Mormons believe in aliens and that the aliens are also Mormons but it gets a little more fun than that while the following beliefs are not commonly held anymore and are sort of put in the they were just mistaken pile that that the prophets of Mormonism have to go to a little too often Joseph Smith taught that there were people living on the moon but that they lived too much older ages usually around a thousand years old they were around six feet tall and dressed like Quakers Brigham Young repeated much of the sentiment but added that there too were people living on the Sun because otherwise the Sun would have been created in vain so there you have it from an
