[Music] number ten oversees Chinatown East theme park southern China space journey on July 5th 2010 the space during ride in southern China was open for business as usual when everything went horribly wrong the ride has made the simulator Rockets flight and to achieve this it spins passengers at a high rate of speed while lifting them into the air the ride is enclosed inside a dome where images of space are projected little is known of this accident but it is theorized that one of the carts broke free 15 years above the ground and crashed into several other carts before they came crashing down witnesses stated that there was a loud boom inside another is reported smelling something burning all we know is that of the 40 passengers on the ride most were unconscious when rescuers arrived six were dead and ten were injured number nine lagoon amusement park Utah puffed the little fire dragon one of the children's coasters at lagoon amusement park in Utah called puff the little fire dragon was responsible for the death of a six-year-old boy on May 3rd 1989 the incident happened when the coaster stopped at the platform after its intended two rounds but the front cars were misaligned and were already past the entrance the operator asked the riders if they want to go again in order to put the Train improperly which a majority of riders agreed to sadly a little boy the back figured the ride was over and was in the process of getting out when the ride once again left the station he fell through the tracks and was initially unharmed it was when the boy then attempted to climb back up onto the station that the ride came over the last hill and the little boy was crushed and killed beneath the carts there was found to be no criminal negligence on the part of the park operator and the incident was ruled a tragic accident it was the operators first weekend on the job number eight Six Flags Kentucky Kingdom Louisville Kentucky On June 21st of 2007 the park formerly known as Six Flags Kentucky Kingdom and Louisville Kentucky had a serious accident the park is famous for their trademark Superman Tower of power a very large but otherwise ordinary drop tower it lifts a cart full of riders high into the air and then drops them in freefall for a short time mid day one of the smaller cables on the ride snapped wrapping around a thirteen-year-old girls feet and neck she was able to remove the cable from her neck but the ride severed both of her feet above the ankles when it dropped her right foot was reattached by surgeons but the left one will remain separated from her leg for the rest of her life the incident was blamed on a faulty cable and the poor training of the operator concluding that if the operator had halted the ride properly guests would have only suffered minor cuts the park was fined $1,000 for improper maintenance which let's be honest is like charging a well-off individual two pennies it means nothing the girl received a settlement of lifetime care from the park whatever that entails number seven Six Flags Over Georgia on June 28 2008 two teenage boys one of which had lost his hat while on one of the coasters jumped to six-foot fences that were clearly marked off-limits and dangerous well on the other side of the fence one boy was struck by the coaster at full speed which for that ride was around 50 miles per hour or at 80 km/h the friend received no injuries but the first boy lost his life as the ride severed his head from his body out of respect six flags closed the ride for the day then opened it the day after strangely enough this was not the first death attributed to this coaster a very similar injury happened to a 58 year old maintenance worker who wandered into the restricted area on May 26 2002 he was struck in the head by a riders dangling leg and died shortly after the rider a 14 year old girl was hospitalized with leg injuries and eventually made a full recovery just remember if you're going to the amusement park don't enter the restricted areas they're restricted for a reason [Applause] number six the cyclone Coney Island New York the cyclone is one of the most popular coasters of all time it has been replicated at least six times and has been operational since 1927 with the impressive lasting power like that it is bound to be a pretty safe ride guess what it is but there have still been three cyclone deaths the first was a 29 year old man who was killed after falling from the ride he stood up and struck his head on a cross beam this killed the man in 1988 a 26 year old maintenance operator was killed after standing up at the top of the ride during his lunch break he fell 30 feet and landed on cross beam once again instantly killing him the ride was closed for the rest of the day and was open the next after being inspected for safety the third death was in 2007 when a 53 year old man suffered several crushed vertebrae in his neck after riding he later died of complications in the hospital on second thought maybe it isn't the safest ride [Music] number five Kings Island Mason Ohio on June 10th 1991 two men died in a tragic accident in Kings Island Ohio one man fell in the pond while visiting the park pool the man's friend then jumped in to save him as did a staff member due to faulty wiring in the pipes near the pond the two rescuers were electrocuted and killed strangely the original man who fell in was fine sadly this was a bad day for Kings Island as less than an hour later a drunk woman was thrown from a thrill ride to her death the mixture of her body being limped from alcohol and her not following safety instructions from staff allowed her to slip from the harness she was thrown more than 35 feet rope Dare and died on impact with the ground [Music] number four haunted castle Six Flags Great Adventure the haunted castle of Six Flags Great Adventure in the jackson township of new jersey got a lot scarier in the year 1984 according to reports there was arson involved and eight teenagers died the teens were going through the building as normal but were somehow trapped when the fire started eight of the nine teens initially perished from smoke inhalation long before the flames reached them and only one survived the ordeal she was saved by a staff member who braved the blaze and came to her rescue the remains of the others were so charred that they were mistaken for mannequins and it wasn't until several hours later that a firefighter realized that they had more substance after the fire other haunted houses in the park and surrounding areas were closed and had fire safety measures imposed after the fire Six Flags reported poor attendance to the parks for the rest of the year [Music] number three the Big Dipper at Battersea funfair this terrible accident happened at one of the biggest attractions in Britain at the time the Big Dipper was very similar to the London Eye it was an extensive wooden rollercoaster that opened in 1951 as part of the Festival of Britain however this illustrious ride would stand for something far darker on the 30th of May 1972 two years after a fire on the ride was quelled a train being towed by the rope to the first drop broke free the rope towing the cart snapped and the brakes failed to engage as Carolyn Adam Czech recalls from that fateful night she was in the front carriage when the rope snapped sending the cart hurling into loading area as the cars rounded a curve the rear one flew off the track says others plowed into the walls of the station Adam chick and her friends were unharmed despite being stranded fifteen feet in the air one of the girls exited the car and fell through a railing to her death after the accident the ride was closed down and two years later the funfair closed never to open again number two Mindbender at galaxy land amusement park on the evening of June 14th 1986 the worst happened at a theme park in Canada and no it was not because of ice buildup the coaster Mindbender wasn't operation during a concert held in park the undercarriage of the rear car fell off quickly derail in the car the passengers were careened into a support beam and three were killed one other was seriously injured with extensive spine and rib damage the ride had been shut down twice preceding the accident as the operator heard a metallic noise even though they ran the carts empty the maintenance personnel could not find the source and presumed the cart was fine despite their initial fears they still loaded people up and the coaster derailed in front of thousands of people the cause of the derailment was linked to four bolts which held the undercarriage in place that were not visible unless the cart was taken apart when these bolts came loose they war against the track and either fellow or severed causing the heinous accident number one action Park New Jersey this entire park was infamous to surrounding doctors and Jersey i'ts alike with nicknames like traction Park accident Park and class action Park people probably should have known to stay clear with a mix of poorly designed and unsafe rides underaged and under the influence operators and intoxicated visitors there was no doubt as to the source of the parks terrible safety record action park was one of the first ever water parks and the wave pool was especially new being the first one ever built unfortunately it was also the first one to take not one but two lives funnily enough this wasn't the reason that it was called the grave pool that stems from the fact that in an average weekend the twelve lifeguards would save over 30 people from drowning the danger came from the fact that the waves impeded the visitors measure of the depth of the pool actively encouraging them into deeper water another slide called the aqua scoot caused a slew of head injuries when riders rode a hard plastic board down a slide made from industrial rollers into a shallow pool if the rider was not leaned back when they hit the pool the plastic sled would dig in and throw the rider headfirst into the pool which was only inches truly an interesting part that is still operational it has gone through three different owners and has had many safety improvements in the last couple decades [Music]
