[Music] seattle is a one-of-a-kind city today we're walking through the top 10 things you need to do when you visit seattle we'll cover seattle's most iconic landmarks hidden gems and top attractions you need to see when visiting the emerald city the first thing you need to see on your trip to seattle is pike place market pike place market is one of the most lively spots in the city and one of the longest running public farmers markets in the u.s while here you'll need to check out the local fish market which is famous for its spectacle of throwing fish from one person to another this part of the market is directly below the red iconic pike place market sign and you can expect to see quite the crowd built up before a big toss while in this part of the market you'll want to make your way to another key site and pike place and that's the gum wall pike place's gum wall origins date back to the early 90s when patrons leaving marketplace theater would stick their gum to the alley's brick facade we're what they call the gum wall and it's more like the gum alley there are multiple walls covered in this it's disgusting if you ask me michael hates gum i think in the first place he kind of has a phobia on it so it's really funny to watch yeah this is one of the things he was dreading most about seattle i think i lost my appetite that was so vile well i hate gum if the gum wall didn't ruin your appetite another thing you'll need to try when visiting pike place is some of the iconic restaurants and local delicacies from some of these independent shops seattle is certainly a food city and we have a whole video walking through the top local foods you need to try when visiting seattle which we'll link in the upper right corner of this video some of these iconic foods like piroshki's and beecher's cheese are located in pike place market so you'll definitely want to check those out one of the main draws of pike place is it's home to the original starbucks which is right behind us but if you guys can't tell the line just goes around the block and don't worry even if you don't feel like waiting in the line we'll be showing you a different willy wonka style starbucks without the line later in this video that you certainly won't want to miss the second place you must visit on your trip to seattle is the seattle spheres this science fiction looking building is owned by amazon and is home to over 40 000 plants and 400 species the interior of the seattle spheres is absolutely stunning with its incredible architecture and otherworldly plants seamlessly integrating with the various conference rooms and lounge areas scattered throughout the property actually really refreshing to see a conference room without screens it's really just a circle table with a bunch of chairs and they are surrounded by so much greenery and this beautiful structure i can see how this would be really conducive to some great amazon ideas while normally only amazon employees are able to gain access to this one-of-a-kind building the public actually can gain access to the seattle spheres for free on the first and third saturdays of the month to do this you'll need to visit the seattle sphere's website and make a time slot reservation reservations open exactly 15 days before the open saturday and with new reservations popping up every hour you'll definitely want to be quick to secure some of these highly coveted tickets they give you a sticker with a time on it that's one hour from the moment you walk in and that's how they can kind of tell when you're done the third attraction you need to see when visiting seattle is the fremont troll located underneath the aurora avenue bridge the fremont troll has been one of seattle's most unique art installations with its history dating back to 1989. this 18-foot tall concrete monster has been a staple in some famous seattle pop culture including an iconic scene in the heath ledger movie 10 things i hate about you so it's not every day you're supposed to hang out under the underpass but this is really cool we we climbed up the troll so the troll is right here it does seem like parking is a bit of a bear so we'd recommend trying to take public transportation here because yeah not a lot of parking spots we took the 26 express bus right from pike place area and it dropped us off a block from the troll so it was about 2 and 50 cents to get down here highly recommend it we have a video walking through all you need to know to navigate seattle via public transportation which we'll link up here as well there's a donation box on the side where you can donate some coins to help the preservation the troll so if you want to pay that trolls toll you're more than welcome to and it goes to a great cause while visiting the troll it's the perfect time to head to the fourth seattle spot you must check out when visiting seattle and that is gas works park gasworks park is unlike any public park you've ever been to and that's because it's built on the remains of the former seattle gaslight company's gasification plan and yes gasification is indeed a real word this park is so cool because in addition to all the cool old industrial equipment it overlooks one of the most scenic views of the city it's kind of cool because you get the history aspects you get the lush green park space you get water and you get a beautiful view of the city it's kind of like the best of everything here while you're here expect to see some people picnicking flying kites or even playing in the world-class playground they've located along the waterway this is the perfect spot to relax if you're looking to escape some of the chaos of the city and relax like a local in a one-of-a-kind spot so if you only have a little bit of time to see the city there's tons of overlooks in seattle but i think gas brooks park is probably the best one you get a phenomenal view of the city the space needle mixed in with this beautiful park to explore i'd say it's probably one of the best spots to view the city if you're a film buff you'll also probably recognize this iconic landmark from 10 things i hate about you as this is home to heath ledger's and julia styles famous paintball scene so gas works park 100 have to check it out definitely worth coming here it's a beautiful spot in the city the fifth thing you must do when visiting seattle is to take the west seattle water taxi seattle skyline is one of a kind and like many big cities it's best viewed from the water one of the best ways to do this is to book a round-trip ticket from seattle's pier 50 on a water taxi to west seattle you want to make sure you sit in the back of the boat when leaving seattle and sit in the front of the boat when returning to seattle to guarantee you have the best views of seattle's skyline not to mention if the weather is clear you should be able to get a fantastic view of mount rainier in the distance as well we cover everything you need to know as a tourist about seattle's water taxi and ferries in our seattle transportation video which we'll link up here so we're standing on pier 50. it's basically the bus stop for the ships and the water taxis and the ferries if you're a few minutes early to your water tax or your ferry this is a beautiful spot to take in the city behind us there's mountains and cool views of the ships and if you look the other way you have a phenomenal view of the entire city skyline it's a really pretty area to hang out get a nice breeze in and just enjoy the city the sixth thing you need to see when visiting seattle should come as no surprise to you and that's seeing the iconic seattle space needle the space needle has dominated seattle skyline since 1961 when it was built for the seattle world's fair this iconic tower is home to a revolving restaurant and cocktail bar at the top for those that simply want to take in the view you can purchase a ticket to ride the elevator up to the observation deck where you can score some great views of the city for those less interested in going up into the space needle the area around the space needle is incredibly lively as well there are a lot of little shops and food stands all around the area not to mention the world famous chihuly glass sculpture museum is located right at the foot of the space needle which is a perfect art museum to check out when in the area getting to the space needle from downtown is a blast as seattle is home to one of the last 15 remaining monorail systems in the united states which takes you right from the heart of downtown to the space needle and for just three dollars the monorail is a fun and affordable way to get some fantastic vantage points through the heart of seattle the seventh thing you must do when visiting seattle is to check out cary park if you don't feel like dishing out the money for the space needle but still want a fantastic view of downtown cary park is your best bet so we are in cary park right now and we have the best panoramic view of seattle i think in the entire city i would say overlooking the city cary park has unbelievable views of both the skyline and the ocean and this quaint little park has a great wall you can sit along to take in the amazing views we're at kerry park on a crystal clear day you can see mount rainier behind us i actually know it's an active volcano so it erupted back in the 1850s which is surprisingly recent and i'm actually pretty glad there's not any lava whether or not because it's surprisingly close i think it's under 70 miles away so glad it's uh temporarily dormant the thing you must check out when visiting seattle is the rei flagship store while rei's flagship store is located in downtown seattle it almost doesn't feel like it as they've created an outdoor oasis right in the heart of the city the store itself sprawls over 100 000 square feet but only 40 of that is dedicated to products the rest of the store is designed to kindle your outdoor spirit with a mountain bike trail walking paths rock climbing walls and lots more to see when visiting i don't think there's any other store on the planet like this and it's certainly a must see for adventures of all ages the rei store is super tall almost makes you feel like you're in a tree house so it's almost hard to believe that we're downtown right now yeah they did a pretty good job with this place there's a lot of trails around the building which we weren't really expecting there's a big waterfall and some of the paths you can test out bikes within the rei store bring them outside actually test them on the trails so very cool experience the ninth thing you must see when visiting seattle is the starbucks reserve roastery seattle's starbucks reserve roastery is one of six starbucks reserve roasteries in the whole wide world and is home to some of the rarest and most delicious coffees out there being the original starbucks reserve roastery this store is one of a kind with unbelievable architecture and decor that really gives off an incredible ambiance adding to the experience is the willy wonka nature of this coffee shop as beans are whisked along with pneumatic tubes and roasted with incredibly high-tech machinery for coffee connoisseurs the starbucks reserve rosary in seattle is certainly something you won't want to miss and given that seattle is probably the city in america with the most unique coffee culture we also made a video documenting the top coffee shops you need to try when visiting seattle which we'll link here as well the 10th thing you need to do when visiting seattle is to visit one of the amazon ghost stores they have around the city amazon go and amazon go grocery stores are unlike any other store as there are no cashiers to check you out instead you can scan your phone at the entrance and thousands of cameras and sensors track your movements and purchases around the store which will automatically bill you for only what you walk away with this is a really fun experience that you really can't try in many other places so we're in the amazon go grocery and it looks you know to the naked eye no different than a regular grocery store you have all the same aisles you'd see at a kroger or a publix or whatever you shop for your groceries but the only difference is if you look up there are a zillion sensors on the ceiling and somehow even with masks they're able to tell who's who so even looking at the prices it's pretty similar to what we've been seeing around the area so it's not even that much more expensive so besides the millions of sensors on the ceiling the only other thing to do is out of place about this grocery store is the gatorade or a dollar online and the powerades are three bucks so i don't know if mr bezos prefers one or the other and that's why there's a price discrepancy never seen that before it almost feels weird just picking something up and walking right out it feels very unnatural kind of like your ceiling but i guess that's just the name of the game here the sensors are watching i guess now we just walk out no cashiers man oh no we did it we're leaving the amazon go store and it totally feels like stealing super strange no cashiers no checkout gears done and last but not least is our honorable mention which while didn't quite make the list is a local hidden gem you'll want to check out if you have the time seattle's golden gardens is an absolutely beautiful park and beach that spans across some of the area's prettiest rugged coastlines this is a calm yet lively place that's perfect for taking a walk or ride there's a little ice cream shop along the docks that offer some nice soft serve we're in golden garden state park and there's this cute little ice cream joint called little coney we felt obligated to get ourselves a little coney and it's pretty good i think coney refers to hot dogs right coney probably refers to hot dogs but i thought it might also mean a little ice cream coney [Music] this is a pretty area if you're looking to escape the hustle and bustle of the city you certainly won't find many tourists here so if you're looking for an area to feel like a true seattle local golden gardens is a great spot for you let us know in the comments below if there are any other seattle top attractions that we missed or if you have any plans to visit seattle in the near future otherwise please like this video and subscribe to the channel if you found it useful that really helps out our channel tremendously
