Hello and welcome back to the Most Amazing
channel on the internet. I am your host Rebecca Felgate and today we
are talking the Top 10 Scary Myths… the question is though…. Are these actually myths….or do they have
some grounding in truth? Let me know what you think in the comments
section down below. Before we get started why don’t you let
me know what you like most about Sweden! You don’t have to have been…I haven’t
– but I like that they are so good at football these days and how happy everyone seems to
be and that they seemingly have their work life balance sorted. Hurrah for Sweden. LIKE SHARE COMMENTS BOX What a beautiful cow at number 10 !
Hulder OH I am here for Hulder! Hulder, also known as Huldra or Hylda us a
seductress who lives in a forest. She lures men in with her outward beauty,
long flowing hair and charm, but she is easily spotted as she has the tail of a fox or a
cow….although she will try and deceive those she meets by hiding it. Some say she has an entirely hollow back. Often these women will lure men in order to
keep them as lovers or slaves, or worse, to suck their souls out. When a holder is angry they get VERY angry…. And they become hideous. A human can break the spell a Hulder has over
them by viewing their tale or hollow back. If a Hulder marries in a church, she can be
freed of her tail and become human, if she wishes. 9 - The Spiders in the Cactus
This myth has turned into a popular urban legend but it is said it stems back to Sweden
in the 1970s to a man from Spanga. The story goes that one day a couple return
home after a trip abroad and bring a cactus. Lovely. I love a good cactus. Danny bought me a cactus a few months ago
and I called it Opportunity after the late Mars Rover. Luckily I haven’t seen any spiders coming
from my cactus….. the story continues that one night the woman sees a huge tarantula
spider fall from the planet and wakes the man to capture it. He does, leaving a piece of paper on the top
as he calls animal control. The officer on the phone asks for further
information and they return to look, seeing the spider has eaten through the paper and
escape. Animal control turn up at the house and capture
the arachnid – saying it was very poisonous and had burrowed in the cactus, growing to
full size. Another variation that was popular in Gothenburg
says the plant was a yucca and out of it bursts thousands of tiny spiders, who were hatched
from eggs inside the plant. What a trojan horse. 8 - Nattmara’s
So this is the Swedish version of a myth I have heard so often that I now kind of think
must be kind of true if so many cultures believe it… A Nattamara is literally a nightmare personified. She appears as a young woman dressed in a
nightgown. She has long black hair, long sharp nails
and very pale skin. She is said to be able to slip through a crack
in a wall or under a door and terrorize the sleeper by sitting on their chest giving them
nightmares and sleep paralysis upon waking. They can also wilt trees at touch and mess
with cattle, zapping them of energy. 7 - The Tree of Evil
Okay so my information on this is coming from a page that I translated from Google so if
you are watching from Sweden…please correct me.. and my pronunciations which I know are
bad! So this myth is called barn-mördar-corset
which I believe translates to child killer cross. The haunted spot is said to be a tree outside
Odeshog in Ostergortland. In the 19th century it was said that a woman
was abused near the tree and became pregnant – with her child murdered by her attacks
in the same spot they had attacked her. Those who visit the area say they hear the
cries of a child. It is said one couple were camping nearby
and they awoke to hear the screams of a baby…they were so scared they left their possessions
and never came back. 6 - The Silver Ghost Train and The Abandoned
Station The Silverpilen, or silver arrow of Stockholm
has been the subject of Swedish lore and legend for over 50 years. In Stockholm, the subway trains are blue,
they used to be green. One train, however is silver. Curious. The story dates back to 1965 when people started
spotting a silver train every now and then. Sightings were so rare that the train became
the stuff of legends. There are a whole bunch of legends surrounding
this illusive train, all of them pretty spooky. Many people say that the train has only ever
been spotted in abandoned tunnels by construction workers and subway workers. Some say that the train goes around picking
up passengers that either show up weeks later dazed and confused, or never show up again
at all. Some people say they have only ever seen the
train after midnight, going high speed through stations. Eye witnesses describe the carriages as empty,
save for a few figures. Are they ghosts? The stories about the Silverpilen were at
their pinnacle in the 1980s, and even today people in the city still talk about the legendary
silver train annnnd it sometimes goes hand in hand with stories about Kymlinge, a disused
metro station on the Stockholm Metro Line 11. A lot of people think this is where the Silverpen
darts to. Others think it is part of a wider conspiracy. Transport authorities never opened the building
for service and nobody knows why it even exists. It is said that only the dead get off at Kymlinge. So… myth…. Legend or actual spook? 5 - Vittra and the Hot Water
Vittra are little underground trolls that pop up to milk cows. Generally speaking the Vittra are benevolent
and like to help humans with their cows, making them easier to milk and generally healthier,
however if you enrage a Vittra, you’re in for trouble – they will do whatever it takes
to get you away from them, which many people believe means cause accidents, some of which
have been thought to kill. How would one enrage a vittra? You mustn’t build on their homes – if
you do, you’ll notice the bad luck come pouring in. Some people have been known to move their
homes for fear of getting in a Vittra way. Others are superstitious and will say little
warnings aloud before pouring hot water down drains or even peeing in a toilet and flushing. Short and simple up next at number 4 - Dirty
Dolls Never leave a dirty doll in a living room
in Sweden, it is a very bad omen indeed. It is said that if a dirty doll is left out
in the lounge or family room, one of the members of the family will fall ill and die of a chest
disease, like tuberculoisis. Tuberculosis is curable these days and the
myth is less widely perpetuated, but still, leaving a dirty doll out in Sweden will stress
people out and lead them to think a family member is going to get sick. 3 - The White Stones
Stockholm was the scene of an absolute bloodbath in 1520 as Danish King Kristian the Second
invaded the country and beheaded 92 members of the Swedish Nobility who stood against
him, it is said on the anniversary of the massacre, between the 7th – 9th November
each year, vistors to Stortorget, the Old Town’s main square, can see blood flowing
over cobblestones just like it did back in the 1500s. Furthermore, there are 92 white stones making
up the façade of a red building in the square. The stones are said to represent the victims
of the massacre. It is said that if one of these stones is
removed, the ghost of one of the dead will rise and terrorize Stockholm. 2 - The Christmas Goat
Ah the Julblocken ! Each year a giant straw goat is burned in Sweden at Christmas time…
oddly this Christmas goat, Julblocken is often linked with the devil…. Buuut at the same time the goat was a giver
and would present people with Christmas Presents. A good Christmas joke would be placing a small
version of the straw Julblocken in another families home without them noticing. Continuing on with the mystery goat theme,
apparently in Sweden between Christmas and new years day, Julebukking is a popular pastime
– people dress as goats and knock on doors in their horned disguise and sing to their
neighbours, who have to guess who is under the disguise. I am actually kind of very much here for that
insanity. 1 - The Ikea Meatballs
These days Sweden is well known for its popular furniture export, Ikea, but many people love
the store as much for its cheap Swedish cuisine as they do the flat pack fixtures. Swedish meatballs are a national dish of the
Scandinavian powerhouse… and you can buy a whole meal of them for very little.. but
like….what is actually in them. Traditional Swedish meatballs are made from
beef and pork but it has been rumoured for years that the meatballs are made up of more
untoward ingredients, allowing them to be made cheaply. Myth turned to reality when in 2013 meatballs
were stripped from the menu for a short time amid the horsemeat scandal. And yes, horse was found in the balls… but
this led to people claiming the meaty snacks were filled with all kinds of other nasties,
too! In China, Chinese people actually stopped
eating the ikea meatballs when they found out that they were made in China and not Sweden
as they had suspected. One Chinese consumer said: “I don’t really
care about horse meat. The key point is that if it’s produced in
China, it probably has rat meat.” WELL WELL WELL that was that! The Top 10 Swedish Myths! Which of these do you think may have some
truth in them? Any? Let me know! COMMENTS from Top 10 Scary Towns That Disappeared
