trying to find the hardest Mario level wasn't very easy since there's literally hundreds and hundreds of them I'm including stuff from the mainline games only and as a side note the challenges from New Super Mario Bros u / Luigi you don't count I'll have another top-10 on those specifically later on but without further ado let's it go New Super Mario Bros Wii isn't known for being the most difficult mario game ever but world 9 fills up that department especially with 9 7 most of the ground is covered in ice and not only that but munchers are underneath most of it that might not seem like that big a deal outside of the fact that fire piranha plants are all over the place melting all the ice yeah there's no time for lollygagging you're kind of forced to rush through the level to avoid dying the difficulty just ramps up as you move along - you'll find these brown spikes with hitting goombas in them - ice with nothing underneath but a death pit and those horrible fire bros that melt half of your platform after throwing just one or two fireballs I do have to admit that if you just run through the level it's really not that bad with some practice but trying to get the star coins on the other hand is a different story the second one is really obnoxious because you have 2 options 1 wait for the Piranha Plants to melt the ice which makes it hard to move on since the ice ahead of you is probably melted or to throw a fireball yourself and melt half the ground in front of you and then the third star coin is in the most ridiculous spot you have to let the fire bros melt specific parts of the ice or you have to do it yourself but you can't melt too much ice or the star coin will be impossible to get 9 7 is all sorts of evil and to think we're only just getting started of all the new super mario bros titles luigi you was probably my favorite of the bunch for the more compact and interesting levels except for 96 yeah this one is just garbage as you can see there's a bajillion fire bars you have to avoid and they've been scaled up significantly for reasons I can't really comprehend now yes this is a relatively short level but I found myself dying over and over and over again because of the freaking fire and I'll tell you I tried everything to get through this from using different power-ups to Mario physics to mini Mario to smashing my head on the wall nothing seemed to work like seriously look at this is it even possible to dodge this crap well it turns out there is an actual strategy you need to take the name of the level very literally it's called fire bar sprint and well they aren't kidding if you start running at just the right time and don't slow down you can actually avoid all of the fire I couldn't get the timing down perfectly but after several attempts I did manage to get to the end but even after all of that I got one more slap in the nuts notice how they put this third star coin under these blocks and I can't break them because I got hit by the fire yeah that's a real good one Nintendo thanks making me feel real good about myself I'm sure some of you expected this game to pop up at some point tubular is one of the eight levels found in star road and the main idea is to essentially float from one side to the other you'll use balloon Mario of course to do this and you have to keep hitting the correct question mark blocks so your powerup won't go away while all this is happening you have a barrage of enemies to avoid and you can't get hit at all because there's no ground to land on so the pressure is on and you have to learn when enemies are gonna hurl fire or baseballs at you to avoid them thankfully this level is short but you'll spend a long time here just trying to get through it I do have to admit that it is one of the more creative Mario levels this seems like something you would find in Super Mario maker and that's pretty neat I'm not sure how the idea of adding a vertically based pinball level into a 3d platformer made it past the drawing board but here we are now Mario Sunshine's pachinko machine is one of the game's most frustrating levels to complete and for all the wrong reasons the initial idea is pretty cool you launch bar you up to the top and aim for certain areas to get the red coins here's the problem messing up any of your jumps will kill you forcing you to start all over why couldn't we just get sent back to the start if we mess up that wouldn't have made the level any easier we just get to try again faster and I haven't even brought up the worst part the completely broken and fragmented physics for some godforsaken reason Mario is always getting pushed to the middle of the stage look at this I'm standing on this tiny pole on the left side wanting to move right for the red coin so I did this jump but the game decided to launch Mario towards the right that wasn't me doing that and I know the pool is in the middle because the game plays perfectly fine when you are in the middle this happens throughout the entirety of the stage you just kind of have to guess when to stop using flood or when the ground pound since you don't know what the game is gonna do to you and even after you do get all the eight red coins the shine spawns back inside the Machine forcing you to go back in yet again and risk dying because of the physics thankfully this level is short which is why it's so high on the list but man is it annoying mário odyssey is definitely one of the easier mario games out there but like most modern Mario titles they save the hardest level for last and darker side is no exception what we have here is basically a giant marathon you starting this lava section hopping from pole to pole leaping across rolling hills turning into a fireball and jumping from lava pot - lava pot and that's just the beginning you'll also transform into everyone's favorite onion in traverse more level the swimming through icy cold water to turning into Yoshi and climbing up a conveyor belt next of course is following this flower path to a wall jumping obstacle course to flying for three years the fleeing yourself over lava with Forks and seriously it just never seems to end but the most difficult part has to be this cloudy section with all these verbose these spiky little brats surround you making it hard to knock them out and out of nowhere you also have to avoid several pulse beam lasers and it just turns into a giant madhouse and if you die at any point during this you go all the way back now with all this going on you might be wondering why this isn't number two or three on the list see here's the thing Mario Odyssey is very generous to the player in terms of shortcuts and health there's lots of places you can find hearts to heal talking to this pyramid all actually gets you six hit points so that helps tremendously especially in the cloudy section I talked about but even more ridiculous is you can skip huge chunks of this level fairly easily by shaking the controller while flattening with glide on you can gain ridiculously good eye and skip that entire cloud section in the Donkey Kong section with ease and we're not done with long levels yet Mario 3d worlds champion Road requires you to be a champion to complete this you have to avoid some octo goombahs fire bros chargin chucks while running across really skinny platforms and that's not half of it you'll be jumping across stupidly fast beat blocks to narrowly avoiding Kanaks fireballs with ground that falls underneath you just springing across endless boost panels and like darker side it just goes on for ages it was hard to decide if this or darker side was more difficult and really it depends on your scenario playing through Champions Road while using peach and a tanooki suit makes a lot of the jumps way easier and more manageable especially for that brutal ending segment so in that regard I'd say it's more fair but I had to take into account playing this without the power-ups the transition is basically like mowing the grass with a lawnmower - blowing the grass with a pair of scissors the jumps become much trickier and more precise in fact I don't think I've ever even completed champions Road without some form of a powerup and as you'd expect die once takes you back to the beginning so factoring all that in I'd say champions Road is slightly more brutal than darker side Plus you weren't given any mushrooms or power-ups on the stage to help out you just got to do it all at once and next is a stage that has a very similar vibe Mario 3d Land special 8 crown is the last stage you'll mock and it's essentially the precursor to champions Road the main difference is the controls now I'm not saying they're bad in 3d Land but 3d world definitely has a much smoother feeling since in 3d Land you can only move in 8 directions plus the depth perception is a bit more clunky I do think the level itself at a crown also has more challenging elements to it - there's a lot of platforms that are really tiny or force you to bounce off an enemy just to get across halfway through you'll even have to fight a boom boom and pom-pom at the same time which isn't that bad but it just goes to show how much more you have to put in now like 3d world you can't of course use the tanuki tail to help out but even then this stage is killer just because of the amount of crap that's getting thrown at you I mean at the end you have to fire bar segments that require pristine movement to avoid and then there's this obnoxious fire maze part with clone Mario's following you from behind in the Bob part where they just fall from the sky is pretty scary as well you kind of just have to hope you don't get hit because tons of them fall at once and you don't know where they're gonna come from there's just a lot going on with this level but this is nothing compared to what's coming up something needs to be said before we get into yc3 from Super Mario Bros and Lost Levels crack this list in order to even play this level at all you have to beat this game eight times that's right eight times only then can you access worlds a through D now most of these levels will put your skills to the test but my god c3 is next level BS the controls in this game are already pretty clunky and not fluid so pairing that while bouncing from bumper to bumper with blazing winds is nothing short of obnoxious and then you got a lega to following you around the whole time and since you're always in the air you're basically just guessing where you're gonna land most of the time maybe if the controls are more refined this wouldn't be that bad but this is one of those levels that just makes me hate video games and it's also really ugly looking it's all just filthy gray in white colors there is just nothing appealing about this at all the last level you play in Super Mario Galaxy 2 is quite possibly the most accurate title ever conceived and that is of course the perfect run we've already talked about the newer 3d Mario games where you just marathon through a giant linear level as your final challenge and this game basically started that trend but with one major difference and that's the fact that you can't take a hit like at all so even if you die near the end too bad you go back to square one this level doesn't play around you don't get any secret hearts or health points and all you got to help you is Yoshi at the beginning and Cloud Mario very briefly the first part is entirely a Yoshi section and while it looks like a pain to play it's actually really simple if you just time your tongue grabs the second section is also pretty easy just run fast and hit all the blue tiles and next is a cloud section where you have to use your clouds to avoid surrounding electric walls this part isn't too bad but it's also really easy to slip see the thing about this level is the sections beyond this actually aren't terrible if you practice a lot but the fact that you can't take a hit just sits and feeds at you at the back of your mind it's gonna bother you make you feel paranoid it makes you nervous and the farther and you get the more anxious you become and the more likely you are to mess up and the ending with all those hammer bros that's not gonna help at all you got flipping platforms and tons of hammers flying around it makes your heart pound every time you get here dying at any point during this just feels like a huge defeat it's almost demoralizing in this weird way that I can't even describe but man it is incredibly satisfying when you kill all those boomerang bros and do beat the level you actually feel like a god the first time you do it because of the pure skill you must have to make it through now the level that's number one on the other hand I'm genuinely baffled this level exists or should I say series because the impossible pack technically contains three sets of short levels these are by far the most grueling agonizing in difficult platform levels Nintendo has ever created for a Mario title I can't even get through the first part without using Tanooki Mario and yeah you can call me a scrub for doing that but just look at this bullcrap we got a deal with the first segment has these well placed fish that homed in on you and if you don't swim perfectly you're going to get hit after that you got to avoid several Birds a barrage of bombs which is then followed by lucky to throwing spy knees at you I have gotten past this part a couple of times but not any farther without the Tanooki suit so after that there's hammer bros and chain chomps to avoid unless you're doing what I'm doing right now then you can just kind of blast through it and that's just the first part the second part is really narrow requiring ton to precise wall jumps to avoid all the fire bars after that is several rotating platforms that would require even more ridiculous wall jumps or for me I can just fly over everything then the third part is a castle that has rising poison and tons of unstable platforms and enemies to watch out for and keep in mind you're supposed to do all this as normal Mario and if you die at any point at any level you go back to the very beginning and you don't get power-ups at all and so you decide to use this suit you literally have to be a legend to beat this maybe one day I'll spend several hours grinding out this level to beat it normally but the fact that I would even have to do that makes this the hardest Mario level of all time by a longshot and that guy's is going to wrap up today's video thank you all so much for watching and I hope you have a wonderful day until next time
