this video okay back to the show okay to kick it off we're going to look at the honorable mentions starting off with valtteri bottas why the hell is he in the honorable mentions not on the main card you may ask he's got 10 grand prix wins that means he's extremely good right well it's easier to win in a mercedes than it is a moroccia for one but what it all boils down to is that while he's got great one lap pace he mainly had the racecraft of a body floating in the river compared to his predecessor he was disappointing still decent though there was also niko hulkenberg a person so deserving of a podium even if he blew a lot of his chances mark webber a charismatic enough dude to make you forget that he was left behind in his last three years in the game felipe massa who while not as good as his old form was still effective enough kevin magnussen a dude way too talented to have been struggling in a host for as long as he did esther ben ocon whenever he wasn't playing fiddle dee dee with his teammates or pent up belgians rama grosjean good at driving better at flying pierre gasly who despite that ripple stint worked wonders with the toro rosso kamui kabayashi for being a damn fine driver even if he was his own worst enemy at times job yankee who did things with that marushia that should not have been even remotely possible and finally his godson charles claire he only did two years of the 2010s but he was so damn close to making it onto the official list because in those two years he put up some remarkable performances but ultimately experience played a part for the dude at number 10 while at the same time kind of flew under the radar and now he's charles's teammate oh really this guy's ahead about us science won nothing and bottas won 10 races yes he is except the fact that stats don't mean everything here in such a lopsided grossly unfair sport you may need to close your wikipedia tab every now and again when it comes to judging who the best drivers actually are anyways happy vibes and moving on science centered formula one with tora rosso back in 2015 alongside max verstappen that driver combo is tantalizing nowadays and i don't know if we fully realized what we had back then although i'm sure some of you out there will find it mid because that apparently makes you cool does it he had a great opening since the formula one with torre rosso in 2015 and 2017 although his stint at reno was not nearly as good he kind of got beaten up by hogg and it took him right to the end of the 2010s to achieve his first podium although that was also mclaren's first podium in over five years it was a great time for mclaren and for science because well obviously it was carlos's first podium and mclaren have finally pulled themselves out of the mud after having been drowning for a little while and someone who was caught in the sort of start of that lull was the greatest driver ever to come out of guadalajara that time at mclaren was a nightmare and a half but before then sergio pruise was touted as the greatest thing since sliced bread although why slight spread was considered a benchmark in terms of greatness as a mystery to me but anyways debuting in 2011 for salba he wasn't quite on the level of his teammate kamui kabayashi although in 2012 he turned up to john wick and this came into full effect when in the malaysian grand prix he pushed eyebrows all the way to the line showing his prowess in rainy conditions scoring his and seliba's first podium since the bmw days he scored two more podiums that year including a second placing in the italian grand prix and it was these results that led him to become a mclaren driver for 2013. the prospect of him becoming the next pedro rodriguez looked set to be fulfilled although this was about the time where ron dennis and mclaren went into a violent downward spiral and thus while checo showed some promise here and there his mclaren stint fell like a freaking anvil after being let go for 2014 he found a new home at force india and this was where cheko shon because while the car was never good enough to win he still found five podiums from 2014 to 2019 that may not sound impressive to fans of drivers who have dominant cars but it was these performances that gave him a solid reputation and ultimately it was what led him to become p9 on this list just behind his mclaren teammate jensen button who while winning his world championship in the last decade enjoyed some good in this one too after that 2009 bonanza he moved from braun to mclaren whilst braun went on to become mercedes and yes with hindsight that didn't seem like a great move but in 2010 it was the dream deal for him there he would be paired up with 2008 champion lewis hamilton and although that dude hadn't yet become the boss of all bosses with 11 million wins he was still held to an extremely high regard which is what made button's 2011 season extremely freaking sweet finishing p2 in the championship ahead of lewis putting on some stellar drives including his win in the canadian grand prix where he yo-yoed up and down the pack not least thanks to collisions with his teammates before coming back through to win the race after seb's bottle on the last lap as time went on and as mclaren started to rot from the inside out in the years after 2012 buttons stuck with the team well into the honda days which weren't really that great as you can see from this graphic with alonso and kmaga's teammates he performed well enough but would retire at the end of 2016 coming back only for a one-off appearance in monaco to replace eyebrows who was off racing indycar jensen used this time well by putting pascal verline on his side and portier at that point he might as well just walk straight to his yacht much like kimi raikkonen did over 10 years ago raikkonen has now retired from formula one and akana still doesn't feel real to me or a lot of us after messing about in wrc for a couple of years kimmy came back to formula one in 2012 with a point to prove actually that's a complete lie the money was too good and i mean hey who could blame him racing to him is a hobby and if your hobby is your job you happy lotus government contract way too optimistic of the car's performance and when kim scored points handover fist it danielly bankrupted the company those two years at lotustow saw him throw on some awesome drives and would lead him back to the scuderia in 2014 as lotus began their by now standard collapse he never really matched his teammate although he wasn't without his good performances which did include a winner in austin in 2018. after joining up for romeo for 2019 it was only a matter of time before he left the team and the sport because for a driver of kimi's status midfield teams were not where he belonged it wasn't really his forte he was used to winning but that 2018 one would be his last one and it was in that race where he was hustled all the way to the line by a future world champion and no please don't wage war in the comments please remember we're all trying to be happy little family here right yeah happy happy happy happy off you're not listening are you let's just move on max verstappen came into the sport off the back of one season in junior formula racing winning almost everything in his path which ironically for some people isn't enough but it meant that every junior team was chasing him although red bull won that race when dr helmut marco offered max an f1 seat as part of the deal for once in his life joss verstappen was speechless which was probably a good thing but come 2015 torah also had max verstappen and carlos science as their drivers and max certainly wasn't messing about taking a couple of fourth place finishes in hungary and austin and passing felipe nasa around the outside of blochemont in spa the season wasn't without its problems and crashing wasn't completely absent from max's seasons of formula one lest we not forget baku 2018 or his ultra aggressiveness in monaco 2019 or his heroics going into saint devos these are just some examples but this is by no means cherry picking and ultimately is why he's no further up the list having said that when he isn't slamming into walls or teammates or anything that look like either max has always been wicked fast he won eight times in the 2010s and he almost always had shown his raw pace throughout a race weekend i'm sure there's gonna be people out there who will scoff at that and if i were to be brutally honest this dude is way too aggressive sometimes but there is a reason why this dude needs entire warehouses to house his trophies being the greatest driver ever to have come out of belgium although for a while he was kept honest by his first red bull teammate daniel ricardo the smiling assassin the honey badger the legend that is daniel avocado funny how his formula one career started out in hrt about the least exciting prospect in the world next to getting a colonoscopy for me with scissorhands but hey it's a start and a launch pad for his torre rosso campaign in 2012. for two years he was teamed up with john eric verne and while he produced some good results for sure i don't know if people expected him to perform as well as he did in 2014 promoted to red bull alongside the four-time reigning world champion who people were already bored of and began to boo mercilessly so when ricardo came into the scene guns blazing and scored three wins that year he became a sensation in the panic and throughout the entirety of australia he kept doing wonders at red bull with his monaco win in 2018 being particularly awesome but with max's ever increasing profile within the team he jumped shipped to renault and while that venture didn't bear much fruit he still did well there too that said the renault was never going to win a race at the hands of anyone not ricardo not lewis and not his former best friend turned teammate to an sworn enemy nico rosberg britney's ascent to the formula one world title was interesting shall we say in 2010 he jumped ship from williams to mercedes to partner the returning michael schumacher shumi may have been there on a mission to develop the team to become the next goliath but he wasn't there to piss around either this is racing man come on and nico more than held his own against the seven-time world champion then when michael went into retirement and lewis was brought on board as his teammate that's when things started to get interesting again by this stage he'd already won a race in 2012 in shanghai and in 2013 he won two races against lewis's one but there were circumstances behind that and that teammate of his was so naturally gifted to a point where you have to wonder if god was being fair when it came to handing him out talent tokens in life in 2014 when they developed a jet of a car and began to dominate the sport nico was in with a chance but it was a chance only as it was clear who was the better driver between the pair this is racing though and sometimes it takes more than out and out skill to become a champion so after being whacked again in 2015 he pulled out all the stops in 2016 to make a championship assault a possibility and thanks to lewis losing our under daimler pu lottery it gave him enough of an edge to take his first championship title talkabouts are paying all you want but it was a 21 race season and that's the nature of the game happens in racing nico was a speedy driver and a worthy champion although i'm not sure owe put him ahead of the lord of the eyebrows in terms of who was the more deserving champion out of the two although he as well encountered some messed up luck when renault started to drown at the end of the last decade fernando alonso signed a ferrari with high hopes and a contract which could afford him to buy a couple of micronations his debut season kicked off enormously well with the winning bahrain and come abu dhabi he was in with a really damn good shot of taking title number three but these hopes were dashed thanks to the intervention of the most lethal driver from the east since nico bellick 2012 could have been something special too doing what he did in a car that crap but luck intervened and say it with me folks that's racing his time at ferrari only added to his legacy performing a lot of impossible stuff as the team at marinello were running around like headless chickens and after that disaster of the car given to them in 2014 which i don't know if you know this was the only car to understeer and oversteer at the same time nando fled off to mclaren for 2015 with the renewed partnership at honda looking promising in a lot of ways but almost none of those ways came to fruition and what we got was a car that gave fernando plenty of practice at walking and even when they switched to reno power units he still couldn't do too much with that car other than bury his teammate stoffel vandoorne he bowed out at the end of 2018 arguably on a whimper and yeah he returned a couple of years later but you could not argue about the performances that he put in you know for a fact that he always maxed the car especially at ferrari not that ferrari got a rough deal when he left at the end of 2014 because they then got this guy but here comes sebastian yes here comes sebastian vettel i swear that's been used into the turf ever since crofty spat out those words but hey it's all good after seba proven himself to be more than a commodity in the dying days of the 2000s he entered 2010 with a red bull team that was very much in contention for at least a few victories the first two races were going awesome right up until his car decided to not awesome on him with this retirement and the lost points from the previous round some people would claim that the championship was over by now but he still kept his head in the game and with four rounds to go he went on a tear and despite his engine going all out mount vesuvius on him in korea he broke through to win his first world title in abu dhabi he won the title again in 2011 with a fairly dominant run he won again in 2012 after a nifty battle with alonso all the way to the line and in 2013 just to take the piss he won 13 out of the 19 races with nine of them being in succession his will came crashing down in 2014 but his move to ferrari had made him a cult hero after having been booed out of the arena not that long ago after nico rosberg left the sport in 2016 zeb made himself the prime candidate the challenge for the title in 2017 and 2018 driving so god damn well sometimes and definitely could have won the championship had everything fallen into place but that's racing everything never falls into place but what we got from this guy in this decade was nothing short of incredible yeah he had his moments but all drivers do even the guy who sits atop this list at number one [Music] to be honest i'm very excited ha ha everyone laughed at the funny joke because he's pastor maldonado and he's bad because he crashed a bit and drive as if he was on angel dust let's get real though because only one driver was ever going to be at top of this list and they just down to his accolades to be honest with you i don't really look at that stuff too much when i consider this dude when it was announced that lewis hamilton was going to move to mercedes for 2013 the reaction was such you have moved from mclaren to mercedes is that not a bit like moving from manchester united to west ham yeah some of us were a little bit off but there was a reason for that because at that point mclaren was still one of the teams to be at mercedes were still kind of finding their feet and some wondering if they would ever do it at all lewis would pick up 10 victories while it's at mclaren between 2010 and 2012 compared to mercedes who had only won once in that time so when the great man himself nikki louder asked for louis to join mercedes for 2013 that was when gestures were made to have this confused old man escorted from the paddock in reality though lauder endeavored to help build mercedes into a gargantuan promising to lewis that he would deliver him a car that would win him a world championship and also gave him a little bit of incentive saying effectively what if you did what jack vilnav did back in 99 but you were successful this time and with that he took the bait and the first year didn't look so promising on the surface but internally things were happening and then 2014 came around and you know how this whole song and dance goes five championships and 62 grand prix wins from 2014 to 2019 the numbers don't lie even if i said they don't mean everything and that's true they don't like i said i don't really need to look at his accolades because watching him drive is like watching something otherworldly and in qualifying he can always find that extra 10th or two that nobody knew was there yeah you can argue that the other two that came before could pull the same and yeah he can make the same mistakes as well i mean hell louis is human who'da thunk but yeah hey you want an example of what i'm on about 2018 melbourne qualifying just look at this lap and forget about the time for a moment it's genuinely awesome to just watch him throw the merc around almost at ease yeah the card's working well but he's making that thing dance i don't know why but this lap has always been etched into my head as a sort of permanent example of what this guy can do but hey you want to know the time it was almost seven tenths faster than anyone else and that sort of sums up lewis a little bit yeah every year he's had a race-winning car yes he's had the better car on the grid for the majority of his career but he makes the most of it almost every time and pete lewis in a top-tier car is flat out unbeatable but that's just my opinion you reckon seb's better that our plan is better that the flying dutchman is better you know what that's cool but just keep it respectful be wholesome don't be a manas and i guess as always i'll see you all later [Music] you
