years of the profession and serving in Title One schools I'm here to help you as your classroom management expert info Implement best practices when it comes to classroom management so that you can one decrease disruptive student Behavior two make sure that you are able to actually get through your lessons and teach so that three you can provide all of your students with the quality and Equitable education that they truly deserve tip number one make sure that you set clear expectations for rules and expectations in your classroom and always make sure to reinforce them constantly so you want to remain very consistent with whatever the general expectations are that you have for student conduct and behavior in your classroom tip number two you want to make sure that you are using positive reinforcement in the classroom with your students so going off of tip number one if we have set clear expectations and we are remaining consistent with reinforcing them when we see students who are meeting our desired expectations we want to ensure that we are acknowledging those students who are meeting expectations that will signal to other students one hey Johnny was just called out and acknowledged by Miss X Y and Z for making sure that he was putting forth his best effort when he was solving his do now math warm-up so that signals to that student hey maybe I am off task and need to make sure that I am on task following my do now warm up and making sure that I'm giving my best effort so we want to continually reinforce desired behaviors that we want to see from our students tip number three make sure that you are using a consistent and fair way to managing student behavior in your classroom one way to remain made fair with the expectations you are reinforcing in your classroom is by utilizing a classroom management plan so I always work with teachers to build out custom classroom management plans so that they are uniquely aligned to who they are as teachers but also culturally responsive to the needs of their students so it's really hard for you to remain consistent and to fairly apply all of your expectations and your general way of managing your classroom when you really don't have a solid plan to begin with while you can modify your plan or change pieces in order to adjust to meet the ever-changing expectations that you might have in your classroom due to circumstances that might be beyond our locus of control it is very very important that you do have a clear road map for where you're going and how you're going to do things in your classroom consistency is key in the way to be fair but firm with our students is by making sure we have a classroom management plan so if you need support with creating one You definitely want to look in the description box down below and look into joining my manager class Academy tip number four you want to use proactive ways of managing your classroom so when you're thinking about how to be proactive with addressing misbehavior before it even starts not only do you need to make sure that you have a clear plan but you need to make sure that you are implementing ways to increase student engagement so that students have less of a desire to even want to get off tasks because the lessons that you are teaching with your students are so engaging and captivating to their attention another way to be proactive with per minimis behavior is by simply differentiating your approach to instruction in how you run your classroom as well so that you can effectively meet the needs of all diverse Learners that you have in your classroom tip number five you are using a calm and assertive approach when you are addressing misbehavior that arises in your classroom no matter how proactive we are with trying to prevent misbehavior in our classroom it happens students are going to naturally get off task and different things like that so we want to make sure that when those issues arise that we are remaining as though all in the room by making sure that we are using a calm yet assertive tone with students it is very important that you do this and get over the mindset issue that you might have with being mean because being firm and fair is not mean to students and using a assertive tone is a part of being firm and fair so again make sure that you are maintaining your calm when addressing any kind of misbehavior so that we can effectively de-escalate disruptions in our classrooms tip number six you want to have regular and open communication with your students with their families and also with any other stakeholders this is so that you're able to serve as a united front I always talk about parents um being a student's first and most important teacher and with that we want to make sure that we are really operating in partnership with them when it comes to all things but especially when it comes to any behavioral challenges that we might be seeing in our classroom so that is also a very important thing that you want to do to effectively manage student behaviors in your classroom tip number seven you want to always use positive language when you do have to have those difficult conversations with families about a behavioral issue that you are experiencing in your classroom so in order to make sure that you are having those productive conversations with families that can be challenging when you're addressing any type of Behavioral concerns you might have you always want to focus on the behavior rather than focusing on the students tip number eight you want to make sure that you are providing support and guidance to any students in your classroom who might be struggling with meeting some of your behavior expectations or who are having some behavioral challenges this is very very important because when we think of academics we are quick as Educators to say I just taught a lesson on fractions and simplifying fractions but I noticed that I had three students in particular who were struggling with understanding that academic content so as a excellent teacher that I am I decide to go and pull three students or one student at a time over to work with me in a one-to-one or small group setting so I can provide them targeted interventions and supports in order to meet their needs that's what Equity is and so when we are thinking about the behavioral side just like the ACT academic in if we are going to support students and make sure that we are providing them interventions and supports when they have academic troubles and challenges then we want to do the same thing with behavior we want to identify an intervention that we can use in order to support and meet the needs of our students tip number nine you want to always remember to be flexible and adaptable in your approach to addressing classroom management or behaviors in your classroom you have to keep that in mind it is important that sometimes we reflect and we might realize some of the practices that we have been taught or have utilized for so many years have proven to be ones that aren't in the best interest of students and so like Maya Angelou says when you know better then you can do better so as you learn and continue to grow and develop as an educator it is critically important that you are constantly doing a reflection and checking to make sure that what you are currently implementing in your classroom is for the best interest of your students it's okay to go against the grain and realize that just because it's always been done one way doesn't mean that that is the best way for the particular students that you are serving in your classroom for this given year at this current time so always keep that in mind and be willing to try out new approaches to classroom management that may have been different than what you have learned before or what you have implemented if it's not broke don't fix it isn't always applicable in every situation and I want to also share with you that it's important that given that you are most likely an educator serving in Title One schools like I have for my um tenure within education whether I've been a teacher or a leader it's important that we are again willing to adjust to meet the needs of our students because we are there in service to support them and with them being who we're here to serve we want to make sure that we are doing what's in their best interest at all times even if that means changing old ways tip 10 for managing student Behavior as a new teacher is to take care of yourself you really want to make sure that in your work as a teacher that you are prioritizing yourself and putting yourself first and that's very important because as the saying goes you cannot pour from an empty cup so as you are managing student behaviors working to improve your classroom management best practices always remember to take care of yourself and prioritize your needs a great way to do this might be implementing a behavior reset in your classroom you may notice that there are some areas that students are having trouble with meeting your expectations so any time of year is a great time for you to implement a classroom-wide behavior reset I have a link to my classroom management Behavior reset guide in the description down below if you need support with that as always make sure
