guys welcome back to the channel today we have something brand new from toolkit RC this is a q6 AC quad smart charger guys welcome back to the channel I'm excited today you know why because the q6 AC might just replace my Hoda on the bench my all-time favorite charger it's the Hoda D6 Duo Pro that you guys have seen on the channel we're going to give a little quick comparison in this review of the q6 AC in comparison to this AC and DC charger this one does 200 watt up to 650 watt up to 15 amps this one also does 15 amps but on four channels instead of two so why does that matter well you can charge four batteries at once or you can use four different types of parallel charge or balance boards that will give you tons of charging uh capability on the bench uh this also runs DC as well as AC so that's a lot of fun full color screen wireless charging all the bells and whistles on this one so um yeah USBC 60 W quick charge on here as well for my new iPhone 15 Pro it's available in four different Power configurations EU us UK and Au on the back of the q6 AC parameters are here for the model the input the battery the charge the discharge the LCD screen it's actually a 3 and 1/2 in screen which is great Wireless charges up to 15 watts and USB output up to 5 amp right there um that's that's pretty incredible so uh USBC 5 amp as well Max 65 watt um and it's upgradeable as well by firmware updates okay so let's go ahead and take a look at what's in the box that's kind of a nice presentation accessories box here and the charger itself you know this is a pretty large box so I was expecting that this charger was not going to be very small and it looks like it's about twice the size out of the box than my Hodo so that's going to be something to to said for travel we're going to talk about my favorite travel charger in this review as well but for a bench charger this is looking pretty dominant uh quite large and beasty also in the Box we got the quick start guide and a screen cover here and this is the accessories box it says dual USB fast charging so it looks like we can charge two devices at once and there's a pretty big power cable in here as well as it looks like a lead for an xt90 uh which is kind of interesting so we can come out if we want out of the back of this charger to some type of actually on the side right there input dc7 through 30 volt there so if you want to run a super large battery plug that in right there and make a lead connection to whatever battery you're going to use to power this baby in the field that's kind of a nice portable option and we have this giant extra thick gauge cable for powering it from the bench as well as a two-way USB connector right there for connecting to your laptop for firmware updates and now I've been looking at the Hoda for so long this charger just looks massive it looks like almost like shoe box size uh pretty large but I'm interested to see what kind of features they have packed into this so let's just go ahead and get into what's on the surface of this charger now first and foremost is the 3.5 in color screen right here which is kind of nice it's a LED screen full color again exit button here and channel select we have our jog wheel here for making selections and running around and also a push button enter button there and on the side over here we have our first port on the right hand side and this is kind of cool 2 to 6s balance port xt30 and xt60 selection there either one and we have our input from DC 7 volt to 30 Vol there for an xt90 which is a pretty good size and power option there we have an output for USB uh 3.0 as well as USBC right there which is kind of cool and we have dual fans in the back that's really nice to see dual physical fans we have our input AC input on this side over here 100 volt to 240 volt we have an onoff switch as well and we have another balance port on this side on the Le hand side from 2 to 6s and output switch between xt60 and xt30 and two more ports for charging but non switchable on the front for two xt60 2 to 6s balance leads up front now let's go ahead and Power on the machine with the onof button right there here a beep and I saw some LEDs that's kind of cool little LED across the front I didn't notice that when I first opened the box now you see the interface here and I'll just walk you through this real quick we can also change the themes on here from white to Dark theme now just real briefly in this review let's just give you a quick way to navigate these menus so if you're brand new to this I don't want you to get too intimidated it's only uh basically three buttons here it's pretty easy to to navigate so um first up we have our input voltage and what we're currently at we also have one through six cells right here you can see the Watt hours and the Watts here you see the current temperature we can change that from C to Fahrenheit as well and we have all four ports here so if we're on number one you'll see it's selected there and when I press this channel button again two three and finally four so the way these are set up is their set up over here is going to be channel number one they are labeled channel number two three and four over here on this side so um not to get it confused so you'll get used to it pretty quickly you could also take a little Paint Marker and write a one here a two a three four on that side um that might be kind of easy way to remember it just by glancing at it so that will help you a lot so we're going to go ahead and go up to channel one now and we can go ahead and press this button on the right that will take us into our charge menu right there and I'll show you how many different types of batteries we can charge we can charge lipos on here LH L Fe batteries lion batteries which is great lto nickel metal PB power and UAV bats so we're going to go back up to Lion here because I have a huge lion we're going to test out and charge today and for the cells we can leave that on auto so it auto detects how many cells are in your battery so this is a 4S battery and it will detect that this is a four when we plug this in um you'll see it come up on the screen and you pretty much can just set your charge mode if you want to charge discharge or storage and select your in voltage for a lot ion would be 4.10 and the charge current at 2 Amp that seems to be fine we can also go all the way back down to the bottom here and we can switch the different ports by pressing on one of these down below but right now we're on one so we're just going to go ahead and grab a battery and I'll show you how to get started charging now I'm going to go ahead and plug in the xt60 here and you're going to look for the negative side of this and you're going to take your balance lead look for the black wire on this side and you're going to plug it into to the farthest point where you see that negative side right there it's going to be a little tiny icon that has a negative symbol and positive will be this side so we're going to go ahead now and let's press start here we'll scroll over to start press start up to 16.4 volt say yes and now you see a whole bunch of new information on the screen we have our current status for the voltage and you can see each cell is balancing here as we charge and you can see how many amps we're putting in how many milliamps we've put into the battery since the beginning of the charge the timer on here and some real time info which is kind of nice so if we click on the r cut so if we click on the jog wheel right there it can take us into current adjustment if we want we can turn the current up or down and we can stop channel one specifically or we can stop all if there's some type of emergency to go back just press Channel exit right here and you'll go back to the main screen and you can see all of your information here that we discussed before and you can see that it has an a red LED here and I'm assuming that's going to change green or blue when this charge is done and there is a way to see all four ports at once on the screen you don't have to just kind of scroll through each one if you long press on the channel button on the left it'll take you to all four screens at one time and you can see all the data for all four channels now if we long press again in it'll take us back to that main screen on the channel that we had previously selected now if you want to see even more info you can take this jog wheel right here and you can give it a Twist to the right and it will show you even more info here charging info and current cell voltage info so now that we have a lion charging say you want to charge up one of your tiny woop batteries or one of your small C woop batteries this is a 2 s450 with an xt30 I can also put that one on another port on the other side of here since I have one here it's kind of nice they have at least two of these ports that will allow us to charge xt30 so we're going to again put that ground wire all the way over to that side where you see that little negative icon there and now we're going to switch to that direct channel so now we're on Channel 4 over here with our xt30 and our 2s1 and let's just go ahead over scroll there press that and it says lion up at the top so it didn't Auto detect what type of battery it is so you're going to have to do that manually so I'm going to select lipo there now it's an auto and I don't really want to charge at 2 Amp I'm going to back that up to about 1.9 and ending voltage it's going to be 4.20 because it's not an HV battery it's a standard lipo make sure you don't mix that up for your lipos and your hvs it's probably fine for your HV you're just going to get a little less flight time before for a standard lipo you never want to charge that one up to three 4.35 amp volt per cell that would be bad so uh 4.2 volt it's your standard for your standard lipo now we're going to go ahead and say start to 84 volt that's good and now we're charging on Channel 4 we can also add two more up front here if we want to and you can see the LED is also red on Channel 4 as well now that those batteries are charging I can go ahead and we can walk you through some of the other chargers that I have guys that watch this channel are looking for advice on what to buy so if you want the ultimate bench charger obviously one of the best choices out there right now at this price point would be the q6 AC right here from toolkit now if you want kind of a a a do all type of charger that I've used for years it's a crowd favorite everybody loves it it's the Hoda D6 Duo Pro that one's also AC and dual ports up front uh as well as this toolkit M7 AC I've used this one recently on my trip to Colorado and uh this one was charging all my 2s Darkstar 20 batteries so this one's nice it also comes with an AC cable or you have an input for out in fi if you want to do some kind of portable charging and that one's DC 7 to 28 volt there also a built-in fan and an onoff button but this one has one port um which is also switchable between xt60 and xt30 there so this one's really convenient for traveling and it's really lightweight in my luggage I just wanted to kind of have everything all in one bag as you can see here I'll put this on the screen this was my my kind travel setup and I'm trying to travel lighter and lighter these days I don't want to have a heavy drone gear set up I don't want it to take up half my luggage so this was this was nice for traveling at home on the bench again I've been using the D6 Duo Pro for for years and it's still going it also has wireless charging where this other one has dual Wireless but this one's going to give me two extra ports so as a daily driver this one might be more convenient for me without having to use a breakout board or a parallel or a balance board and let me show the new guys what a balance board is this is a balance board that will allow me to charge xt60 and xt30 is here up to six batteries at one time from a single port so this just plugs in like a regular battery here and then that expands your charge capabilities but what it does is it separates the charge current to all six batteries so you might have have a slower charge versus keeping an individual battery per channel so if I want to charge a little bit quicker and not you know kind of distribute that power between six batteries at once I'll charge them one at a time and sometimes they go a lot quicker whereas these will give you more options for charging more batteries but in a little slower amount of time and if you look in the video description you'll see a link to one of these balance boards so at the end of the day which one should you buy should you buy the D6 Duo Pro uh or should you buy the toolkit RC q6 AC um that depends on you and and I always leave it up to you guys I leave it up to the community I'm not going to tell you which one to buy I just have had a ton of experience with this one and only time will tell about which charger lasts longer which one gives me more charges before you know the maybe the Puff Smoke comes at some point um with chargers on the bench sometimes they do brown out uh I can't lie to you there sometimes they do brown out and other chargers have worse reputations than others uh I have a great experience with this one um but I am excited about expanding the capabilities of my D6 Duo Pro over to the q6 AC uh I I just love having two more channels it's been a long time since I had a quad style Charger the last one that I had was probably from Hobby King the Quattro years years ago was it called the X4 I think a lot of people remember that one if you've been in the hobby for a long time as a beginner it's always a good idea to walk by and just kind of touch physically touch the battery as it's charging just to make sure that the battery is not heating up itself and it's also not starting to swell and probably my greatest advice to you as a new guy is never leave these batteries unattended while you're charging because you could come back to a fire or your house burnt down or your hobby shop completely burnt to the ground um these batteries can go up and it's always a good idea to charge somewhere where you have a good ventilation and it's not super hot one thing that I do absolutely love about the q6 versus the Hoda is the fact that these USB ports have been updated now this one only charges at 2 Amp whereas these can charge up to 5 amp so that's a big upgrade for charging modern devices and I feel like the Hoda is maybe a little bit behind as far as current charge rates for something like an iPhone 15 Pro we now have USBC so that makes a quick charge possible on something like the q6 or Android phones that have USBC 3.0 okay so now we have a complete charge on port number one over here for the lion pack this nav lion pack is now charged and it did beep you can turn that on or off inside the general settings menus and it does give us now a kind of a visual representation with a blue LED in the front that's kind of cool so overall it has a lot of modern upgrades that I really like it has the upgraded USB ports C and and the regular standard port on there as well as four different ports on here now and I originally loved my Hobby King Quattro X4 that was a great charger and I loved having four ports and since toolkit started making Chargers I haven't come across a four port charger yet from them so they've only done single port or dual Port so uh for a long time I've been using these dual Port the Hoda is great two to three years now on this one but it's nice to see an update to this and uh this is really nice and powerful and if you want to you can charge your phone or your device on top with the wireless charging up to like 65 Watts so that's that's pretty good right there for a quick charge um but otherwise it's going to do pretty much everything I need it to do for me and this one's going to be used mostly in the shop right now so I'm going to use this one as my daily driver and I'll keep you guys updated over the next 6 months to a year on this particular charger cuz I think it's a big release from toolkit RC and probably one of their biggest Chargers today um and it's it's going up directly against something like the D6 Duo Pro from Hoda so um depending on what you like the portability of the Hoda um D6 Duo Pro versus this one it is much larger so if you don't want a large charger on the bench I get that um but you also have the option for travel for an M7 AC this one's nice because it has a built-in power supply all three of these do so they only have to be plugged into an AC outlet or you can use an extra large battery to charge from but this charger will do everything for me as far as my longrange batteries my small batteries uh you can even plug in a 1s bort on here and charge 1s it has a lot of options and firmware updates so uh I'm happy where it's at and it seems to be a modern charger for what we're looking for for the end of 2023 and early 2024 so if you like these reviews please do subscribe click that notification
