Yeah, that's exactly what I expected the new Tool to sound like. What's weird is this sounds closer to a Lateralus follow-up rather than 10,000 Days.
Right now I'm just crossing my fingers we get a few faster tracks like Parabola.
Loving the brilliant production. Even though I wanna see how this song fits with the rest of the album, I'm gonna stream the shit out of this until Aug 30th.
wow. the last minute and a half is this brutal odd time outro. what a track
I see a fair amount of comments wishing they'd picked more of an uptempo banger to lead with, but choosing this for their first single makes total sense to me. The biggest thing that all of their fans were worried about was that this new album wouldn't be the same as classic tool, and this song dispelled those fears for me. I wouldn't be surprised to hear something harder closer to the time the album is released to build the hype even more.
Good song. Slow and atmospheric. Odd pick for a lead single but I suppose at this point they donβt give a fuck and know thisβll sell like gangbusters. Or there isnβt really a lead single banger on the album at all (thinking like Vicarious was)
Dannyβs drumming is incredible on this track! Really good song, lived up to my expectations for sure.
Okay, here's my take on this: It's a more psychedelic exploration of the Lateralus style. It's not that heavy, but that works in its favor here. It feels... Trancelike? Otherworldly? Sort of like their moodier songs. A more fleshed out Disposition, maybe. I'm also picking up some stoner influence here, specifically with that riff before the solo.
Overall, nice song. I don't want to judge it until I hear it in context, though.
Danny is the star of this song. He's still amazing. Vocals take a back seat to the instruments on this one. Ear candy for us prog fans. Not bad for a long ass wait
On my second listen, it has such a brilliantly warm tone!
