[Music] psychics have helped police to investigate murder and mystery in the past but their work is often kept secret Tony Stockwell was eight when he saw his first spirit for the past 17 years he's worked as a medium a go between from this world to the next he's now prepared to go out on a limb to investigate unexplained deaths and disappearances so can Tony Stockwell help families on Earth fresh Clues as a Psychic Detective in this episode Tony sets out to help a man find answers about his mother's life and death but uncovers a story of multiple murder a Scotland Yard probed the theory did one man murder them all his search will take him to both ends of the country and put him on a collision course with a serial killer and I know that he watches what we're doing here [Music] Steven slowman was adopted at Birth and for years knew nothing of his natural mother at the age of seven a newspaper reporter came to his house to ask his reaction to the news surrounding his mother's tragic death thing that brought all of this really to a head is when I was um about 7 years old we had some newspaper men came and knocked at the door and my parents after I've been adopted and said or could we speak to Steven tford and obviously my parents went there's nobody of that name lives here that was at the point that they realized they had to tell me you know my history of who I was and where I came from it's this desire to find out about his past that's driven Steven to see Tony Tony has asked to be kept completely in the dark at this stage he knows nothing who Steven is or why he's come to see him he believes this clears the path to receive a more effective communication the reason I actually wanted to see Tony stuck was because I wanted to find out about my mother my birth mother I wanted to find out what her life was like what she was like when she moved down to London such an early age um what she look like you know what what the family budline is what what made me what I am I have a lady that comes forward from the spirit world but this lady comes forward like as a mother like to be your mom in the spirit world so I must ask you first of all I believe your mother is in the spirit world would you understand yes correct correct okay now I know as this same lady connects with me I really don't feel that she's passed recently so I'm going back years you know for your mother's passing I get the sense that she's long gone into the spirit world and I also feel beyond that that either you were still very young when she passed or there's a sense of you being young when there's like a disconnection between you and your mother would you know that to be true that's very true yeah now um part of the reason you've come here um today is to get some kind of clarity from your mom and some kind of explanation from your mother as well and it's a sense of betrayal and it's also a sense of Abandonment um between you and your mom would you understand yeah very I knew soon said that that it was spot on because Hannah actually abandoned me in exitor um almost within days of the birth uh she had me in hospital got a birth certificate she then gone out got me prisoned and then abandoned me on the town hall steps uh wrapped me out warm and walked away she wishes um very much to bring an apology to you today um and to let you know that you were always her little boy and you will always be her little boy this same lady got things wrong in her life like we all do of course she did and um I know she wants to make up for the things that she got wrong in the lifetime too um do you know I don't really get the sense that there's much connection to do with your dad or or there's a distance between you and your father do you understand this yeah it's like he's never was on on the scene or just not on the scene do you believe there was four children born to your mom I think there's four of you cuz she talks of four of the kids four kids she wants to include your grandma so she wants to bring here your grandmother your mom's mom that wants to be here with you today M do you know if your grandmother is called Anna no I wouldn't know would know her name was Annie or Anna no okay maybe we can investigate it further possibly I get a feeling of Anna or Annie um being connected and I feel it's your grandmother but I get a very strong love from this lady at the time I haven't got any relatives or my parents haven't got any relatives called Annie so it didn't mean anything but since then we found out that my grandmother she was actually she was Annie do you know if your mom had any links with with tin and weird like Newcastle Newcastle yeah North well I don't know I don't know the V the town or the village but I know it it was in North umland that's like tytin and we on Newcastle is where I would Place her that's what I would do her life was tough her life was hard and her life was almost quite fra with lots of problems or pain you see and um it's not just a physical pain with your mom but I feel that she kind of like had Associated and had connected around people that were not good for her in her life you know the people that that she felt quite damaged by I knew from a letter that she came from from the Newcastle area that uh she'd left home at 15 and that she'd gone to live in London where eventually she went and became a prostitute your mother was either married more than once or had more than one main partner in her life would you know that to be true yeah very and um with the greatest respect with the greatest respect um I feel your mother had either a succession of part Partners or um she never really found like a suitable partner you know so she spent the life looking for someone special or someone to remain with her through the duration of her life would you know this yes when Tony was giving me details about Hannah and about her life and having many partners and her friends and the type of life that she lived that he was almost trying to be protective and trying to Shield me from the fact that she was you know she was on a life prostitution now you have been looking at black and white photographs belonging to your M no of your mother her story was reported in a newspaper or there's something to do with a newspaper cutting that she remind remembers have you been looking at these photographs recently or referring to them I've looked at photographs but not when she's young I'd seen a newspaper picture of Hannah on the television and I'd also had a newspaper cliping with her picture on your mother's life came to a very abrupt end at the end a very abrupt end would you would you know if your mother had um problems here to the throat when she passed yes she she makes me feel as she passed over it was not through natural causes and I feel that somebody else is responsible for the way your man passes to the spirit world definitely true yeah Hannah was murdered she was strangled she was tied up and was then put in the river temps is it possible your mother passed near water do you know this yes defitely water I don't want to be too graphic here cuz I know it's your mom so I'm sorry I'd rather you did is it all right for you let me just tell you as it is I feel as your mother was strangled by a man and her body was dumped in water that's what I feel that's definitely yeah I I please forgive me if I'm wrong I believe your mother was on the game and I thought she was killed by a client of hers somebody she knew yep she keeps now making um a similarity between her and and her case and Jack the Ripper and I I feel it's like a serial killer I feel it is it when they looked into these deaths they were just seen as deaths of prostitutes and it wasn't until the fourth victim that they realized they had a serial killer on there and it went up to eight victims that were actually discovered and I'm sure that there are I don't want to limit this but eight victims come to my mind and she she she keeps saying to me something like um it's a shame you've got nowhere to put the flowers or something like this so there's there's not like there's no final resting place for your mom or if it is you don't know it it's a sense of you not being given the the the opportunity to put things to rest and make things right you understand yeah ultimately what I want to do is find where Hannah was put to rest whether she was buried whether she was created um to give me some form of closure and if there's family out there that's willing to meet in some ways a start of a new adventure because I want to meet them and introduce them to my family and find out you know what they've done with their lives and them to know what I've done with mine but Tony is about to find out that Steven has brought along No Ordinary case his investigation will take him on a journey of Discovery as he learns the truth about who Steven's mother really was she must have felt very vulnerable and yet very very afraid and attempts to help him on his quest to track down the missing relatives he always hoped he'd find everyone want wants some form of closure on things and this is just part of the journey towards that [Music] hopefully medium Tony Stockwell is working with Steven slowman investigating his mother's life and murder at the hands of a serial killer his mother was the first victim in a murder case known as The Hammer Smith nude murders because of the naked state of the victims the murder was dubbed Jack the stripper and to this day the case remains unsolved in his reading Tony visualized a newspaper photograph of Steven's mother in the 60s I think it's a newspaper cutting that she's showing me it's like a black and white picture here in my head that photo now provides a vital clue for Tony to start his investigation he goes to the British newspaper library in North London to see if he can track down the photo among the thousands of miles of newsprint all he knows is her name and the date she died during his reading I saw clearly Hannah holding up a picture of herself uh as it appeared in a newspaper so I'm just desperately to see if I can Trail through this stuff um this old micro film to see whether I can really get her picture look into her eyes get a better feeling about the lady now when I actually look at a photograph it really helps me to hone into the energy of the person as they were in life it's almost like giving a onetoone reading with someone but obviously she's not here to do that she's in the spirit world she can tell me things from the other side but maybe there are some stuff that she doesn't quite remember even and dependent on when that photograph was taken say it was in the latter part of her life there could have been a lot of things that she knew things that she had seen and possibly even her attacker if she'd known him beforehand and maybe to see his identity in her eyes Tony knows that Within These wheels of microfilm are the clues that will unlock the secrets surrounding Hannah tailford she kind of like had Associated and had connected around people that were not good for her in her life you know the people that that she felt quite damaged by your mother had a tragic passing your mother was on the game and I thought she was killed by a client of hers I feel she's in water or was in water something around your mother's neck I thought your mother was strangled it's like a serial killer your mother was strangled by a man and her body was dumped in water I've managed to find an article it mentions uh Hannah Hannah talford it's in the daily ma it's actually reported on Saturday April 25th uh 1964 it talks of um trail of murder it's uh an article that talks of five good time girls die by temps and Scotland Yard probed the theory did one man murder them all now maybe our man did cuz I I had a strong feel this guy actually maybe murdered eight women certainly eight was important to me at the time now as I look at Hannah talford I'm aware of a number of things I'm aware of her innocence which sounds very strange but she was very childlike in a way of far too trusting I feel that on the night that she passed that she was cold and felt very very vulnerable and emotionally very much at the end of her tether and somewhat depressed I feel that she went with a man that eventually took her life I feel that she had known this man and gone with him willingly this um young woman with the rest of her life in front of her her life was taken from her by a man that took her life when he could have taken anybody else's life because she meant nothing more to him than any other girl that he could have picked up on that night I also get the feeling that he was in some way um mocked and jbed and known to the girls as being somebody strange a bit odd I also get the sense that he must have um roughed up some goals um prior and even like um a year PRI it's like a time span that leaves me where were the girls that knew him knew of him and knew we had to be a bit careful about this one cuz he was just a bit whooped Tony feels he's made a positive start he feels that Hannah was killed by a client which ties in with the known facts of the case in 1964 a series of brutal murders had the police and public a all the victims were prostitutes working in the Hammersmith area of London and in less than 12 months six bodies had been found the police dubbed the killer Jack the stripper because of the way he left his victims naked and to this day he's never been caught in the reading Tony mentioned that Hannah had a connection to the Ty and Weir area another fact backed up by the article possibly by visiting places she's known for being a younger person again it profiles her it shows me how she ticks and I'm I'm very much aware if I can go back to the space where she began I will be able to follow this whole case through with so much more accuracy if I can really blend with her and feel her and almost befriend her then I I know that the final moments of her life and the man that took her life will be so much clearer to me Tony has traveled to North umberland to visit the childhood home of Steven's mother he's Enlisted the help of local historian John Turner and together they have located Hannah's birthplace Bluebell Cottage it's great actually being outside these cottages and looking back onto but uh I believe you know one of the one of the people living here yes I've actually spoken to one of the owners Liv in number two here and he's invited us to go inside oh fabulous to have a look and it's probably a good opportunity because this is the only one that is probably in its original state because there's been some alterations done to the one well that would be really very helpful and I get to go in there yeah he's invited us in and it's going to be a lot warmer in there is Tony hopes that by visiting the house that Hannah spent time in as a child he can find more psychic Echoes of her life and also find the answer to why she left home and then abandoned her children okay so obviously the decorations changed and there's new furniture Etc but I guess the size of the room obviously the way the layout of it yes this is how it would have been with a front room with the and then going through into the kitchen or the par should look through that like stepping back an old house but it's like stepping back in time and imagining Hannah's mom at the sink and no doubt there probably would have been some kind of outside lavy I guess yes there would be an outside whe the co house it strikes me as quite a large house really for that time so all they have been quite affluent found would you think well I don't know that they would have been affluent I think they would have been sort of working class really the energy in here is interesting it seems a very light and quite a happy space really um I think it would for Hannah's family at that point been a a happy home for them I'm sure a very hardworking um family but it's it's a happy vibe in you definitely we can baby go back to very pleas yes absolutely can you tell me anything you may know about the tal family well it's a pretty safe bet I think that um Hannah's father was a coal miner and probably he was employed either at headen on the wall or in the th Valley somewhere at one of the many mines that were here at the time um and in the 30s which is you know Hannah was born in 34 or the middle 30s and at that time the industry and headen on the wall was beginning to run down now I'm aware that Hannah actually left home at 15 now one thing that crossed my mind is the possibility that she could have actually been pregnant now in the late 1940s do you think that would have been enough for a girl to leave home I'm sure it would have been because I think the social stigma that in those in those days would have been sufficient to although it was a major step for her to take um I'm sure it would sufficient pressure to uh to force her to do that yes one thing um I've picked up um while you've been talking and that is the sense that while Hannah was still a child that she would have witnessed a baby's passing or she would have been very much aware where a baby had died either to do with her family or to do with family friends and the feeling in her for some reason a feeling like responsible for that baby passing over it allow Ed me to see clearly why she could never keep her own children not because she didn't love them it was simply because she was afraid of keeping them just in case something went wrong it's it's a sense of as though she was inferior in a way or seemed to be clumsy and I know as in her adult life she just had this overwhelming sense of she was incapable of being a good mother because she'd been told so Tony has promised to keep Steven informed throughout the investigation and Steven has been given a video camera to record his thoughts I've just had a phone call and Tony did uh a reading today at place called Blue Bell Cottages which is where Hannah was actually born which really I can relate to because I could imagine then years later when I came along the reason abandoned me was because she'd been told to not touch the babies and it's like another piece of the jigel puzzle was dropped into place so it was good good today Tony feels that he's already made a strong connection with Hannah tailford and now wants to look at the circumstances surrounding her death yeah I feel afraid who is going to walk around the corner his investigation is about to take him into the lair of a serial killer to face the presence that now stalks him he's watching [Music] us medium Tony Stockwell is working with Steven slowman to investigate information about his mother's life and tragic death at the hands of the serial killer Jack the stripper Tony's investigation has taken him to a pub in Victoria London Hannah worked from here here as a prostitute in the 60s and Tony hopes he can tap into the psychic energy still trapped within the building's many dark Corners he's joined by Paul beg an expert on the jack the stripper case Tony hopes that between them they can uncover more about the life and death of Hannah tailford this is the the Shakespeare Pub it was built in 1826 so it's quite an Old Pub uh it's not named after William Shakespeare oddly enough it's named after a man called John Shakespeare who was a local land owner but this is the pub back in the 60s this was the pub which was used quite by quite a lot of prostitutes among them was Hannah tailford who worked out of this Pub uh so it's up to you to see if you can pick something up Paul takes Tony to the underground bar in the depths of the pub although it has changed over the years Tony feels that he can connect with Hannah in such a significant place it was from here that Hannah met many of her clients and possibly her killer mind your head for you come through oh gosh Come absolutely Paul what I'd like to attempt is automatic writing now um the way that that works is very simple um I will hold a pen and place the pen on paper and I will invoke and invite the spirit people to use my hand to write with and to help me to focus on this um there's a little teal light there and I'm going to light it looks very powerful about connecting with fire and water as well Tony tunes into the spirit world and it's not long before his hand begins to [Music] move the connection is strong but the writing is no more than a series of scribbles will Tony get a message from the spirit world after several minutes a message does come through he writes you want me and the session takes a darker [Music] turn [Music] why did you screw that video well I don't know if I did screw it to be honest because well I did screw it of course but I got to this point and then I felt um that somebody else was moving my hand across the paper the energy shifted from Hannah to somebody else it was a man who came in but when that man came in I know it was somebody in the spirit would obviously but I got a real sense of of malice and I didn't like it at all and you want me and then I got this very s of agitated movement and I knew that this person wanted to say more but I didn't like their energy and I wasn't going to write down what they wanted to write cuz I don't think I'd like it and and I really got the sense of just their anger and and then because I wasn't really doing what they wanted to do I know that they screwed up this piece of paper like it was a waste of their time I don't want to say this was the murderer of of Hannah talford cuz I don't really think their energies would be so entwined but I know that she left as she left and this other energy came in it could be an energy of a person that has a connection to the pub I don't know I didn't like the energy at all and I wasn't being I wasn't going to be um used by something I didn't like or an energy that I felt was malevolent in some way Tony is frustrated he feels that his connection with Hannah was disturbed by another presence Paul beg suggest that they take their Sears to another significant location in the murder case the Heron industrial estate in West London it was here in an electrical substation that Jack the stripper is believed to have brought his victims it is a grim location that still holds disturbing memories from its past Paul has told Tony nothing at this stage he's completely unaware of what took place here now the very first thing I have um is a taste of blood and the taste of blood in my mouth so I can smell blood um as well now I have a sense of a gentleman a man that would come into this um room um but for him it was something of a sanctuary something like a place where he could be a place where he could be himself he had a great fascination with women and ladies under close and I feel as though I want to Stow things away and hide things in this space and even lower down possibly I feel I want to bury something as well feel I want to bury things there's something very um odd about the man I'm feeling that makes me feel that he's very perverted sexually perverted as well and I get a a strong sense of him in this room getting sexual kicks in this space so would you know if our man the man that would have killed Hannah talford had ever been in this room would you know that she's he's supposed to have been in this room yeah because it feels do you know when we um sat earlier and that energy where I screwed up that paper that's yeah when I screwed up that paper before the same energy the same feeling comes to my mind and I feel I've kind of like want to transfer that pain and that anger from there into this space that's that's what I feel um Tony is now aware that the energy he felt in the pub was that of Hannah's killer but now the connection is even stronger I feel this man's driving driving force was propelled by anger but also sexual desire and I know this man very much thought himself to be a master of his craft he was the best at his job that I can feel this man's presence in this room and although he's not allowed to touch me and he's not allowed near me cuz my guides are here without their protection and without their help I don't think I'd like to be in this room much [Music] longer he has eyes that see everything and I know that he watches what we're doing here he's watching [Music] us but I also know that his reign of terror is at its end it's helped me to understand more probably the mind of the killer than it has to do with Hannah it's giv me a sense of his um motivation the sense of of his depravity really and really what drove the man so it's been interesting for me really to get a sense of him and it's not something I can I've enjoyed either I think that initial sense of him when I was doing the automatic writing and I kind of wondered then whether it could actually be our man and being here really is confirmed it's in me the interesting thing from what Tony was saying uh for me anyway was that was that uh he was saying that um that he had a feeling of of bodies being buried which is an odd thing I thought to say in a but basically is a concrete box and the interesting thing is is that there are some cable areas under uh under wooden planking which he didn't know about which uh are where a body would be adequately buried so that was the interesting thing that that he said that uh is difficult to say how he would have known that although Paul is impressed by Tony's findings Tony is privately concerned once again he's been prevented from connecting with Hannah by who he thinks is her killer he goes out alone to retread the same route where Hannah used to ply her trade Tony hopes that this will help him find the link he's been looking [Music] for now I've come out to now I've come to a place in London where I believe Hannah worked worked as a prostitute and uh really just walking down these streets I'm not really sure if I'm going to get much at all but uh I just had a thought that if I could kind of like walk in the space where she walked before maybe I'd be a to pick up on the energy connecting to her the overwhelming impression I have is that of being afraid I'm a man she was a woman I'm alone she would have been often if she walked this space and yet I feel afraid who is going to walk around the corner she must have felt very vulnerable and yet very very afraid much of the time for the first time I'm really sensing her loss for losing her children for giving up her children giving away her kids I'm now quite convinced that Hannah knew exactly who killed [Music] her I believe you stalked her I believe you followed her I believe he took his revenge upon an innocent woman Tony's link with the killer has unsettled him but he knows that the time has come to visit the site where Hannah's body was found and find the link which will take Steven on a journey that will change his life forever just sort of grabs you there does that make sense they didn't [Music] Tony has followed the trail of Hannah tailford from North umberland to London but feels that he has not been alone he's watching us he decides a time has come to visit the site where Hannah's body was found it was around 1:00 p.m. on February the 2nd 1964 when two brothers went to the Corinthian boat club on the river temps they were going to prepare a safety boat for a race that was taking place later that day as they worked they noticed a pair of women's legs sticking out from underneath a nearby pontoon later on the woman was identified as a prostitute named Hannah tailford now over 40 years later her son Journeys to the site where her body was found so we're here at Hammersmith in London by the Tims and this is the space where um your mom's body was found now I don't know exactly whether it was this ponter or maybe the one over here or whether in fact these are the originals but certainly I think it gives us a good idea of kind of like the locality and and the position where she would have been discovered so how do you feel at you being here um I don't know really it's it's uh it's just a strange thing to think that you know all those years ago that this is where she was sort of discovered it's kind of like a very Bleak place I know obviously it's cold and it's rather early but it's a very Bleak place to be found and I just think so the indignity really you know when you think we're all going to pass from this world aren't we and we all expect to D our beds by Family despite his efforts Tony has trouble making a connection with Hannah I don't get a sense of her here whether it's a place he doesn't want to return to or maybe a place he doesn't want to return and connect with Steven it's such a a murky cold and Bleak place maybe there's too much of that for Steven already so maybe she'll return in a warmer setting everyone wants want some form of closure on things and this is just part of the journey towards that hopefully I don't want to put flowers down here cuz I don't feel that this this is where she is it's it's just sad that she wasn't she wasn't an old lady she was only only 30 and to think that somebody actually did it you know it wasn't just once it was more than once she was someone's mom she was someone's daughter yeah just really sad for Steven it's been a frustrating Journey he's traveled to London and and Come Away with nothing some ways it was disappointing but in other ways I think to myself did I really want to know about those last moments you know of Hannah's life and I'm really honest maybe no Tony resolves to find a new piece of evidence that will give Steven the closure he's looking for here at the Metropolitan archives Tony has uncovered the original Coroner's report into Hannah's death if he can find a clue as to the whereabouts of Steven's family he has a chance of discovering Hannah's final resting place I'm here with Han alford's file and um I spent a little while going through it when I did the first initial reading for Steven I picked up a number of different things one of those things was the fact that he was one of four children do you believe there was four children born to your mom I think there's four of you cuz she talks of four of the kids four kids at the time Steven didn't know he wasn't aware um I've since found documentation that talks of uh Steven's birth and then sub subsequently um the fact that Hannah had had three other children after Steven so we have our four children there which I'm really really pleased about Tony now turns his attention to finding one of Steven's relatives perhaps they will know the location of Hannah's final resting place using information in the report Tony's able to track down Steven's cousin Carol who lives in the Northeast Steven hopes that Carol will finally provide a tangible link to his mother together Tony and Steven traveled to North umland for a long awaited introduction well we're in a village in North umand now we've come here together Steve and I um the reason we're here is we're just about to meet a member of Steven's family that he never knew he had desperately hoping she can help us by filling in more information to do with Hannah and her life I feel really apprehensive and as we've got nearer and nearer sort butterflies and the stomach would got worse and worse but at the same time I'm really excited because it's almost like an end of a journey for me and uh just want to ask there just so many questions I want to ask hope she's got some answers for me I think when I first met Tony I was a bit skeptic and I thought I didn't really know what the outcome would be but I certainly never imagined that would' be at the other end of the country meeting members of the family that I didn't even know existed hi girl hello helloo this is Steven Hello nice to meet you come on in come on in excuse me just looking how much you look nice to see come on I've sorted out some photographs um that we've got of Hannah um at different stages of of our life um that's her there when and I think she would be about 13 um that's a I think another one on the same day where she's actually sitting um I would imagine with um my grandmother there and the other ladies from where they lived and their daughters and they've got them just in a in a line This is a photograph that she sent to my dad um in 1952 I think it'll tell you on the on the back which would have made her about 19 maybe just a few years before I was born yeah that's right a few years before you were born and you'll also be able to have um you know a look at and copies of photographs of your your Grandma and Granddad and and and other family members cous exactly it's like a a whole new world I supp draw going to draw out this big tree of people that you know two hours ago didn't know existed and to actually try and put that into words it's I don't know I don't I don't think that you can understand unless you're actually in that position and uh but it's good it is a really like a warm it's a hot feeling when I when I first read for Steven I was very much aware of his mom in the room and it took a lot from me to say the things I said about how how she she chose to earn her living and how she passed and the fact that it was a serial killer that killed her and it took a lot from me because it's not the kind of General stuff you say to someone and readings are meant to be healing and you you're you're I'm supposed to bring people a sense of wonder and a sense of reunion and I think we had to do that and it's wonderful for me to come away from that it's wonderful for me to come away from Hannah talford this woman that I saw in a paper cut in and maybe the last few years of her life she chose to live a life that's was very very difficult Desperately Seeking love desperately wanting to feel whole again and I now know that she was just simply wishing to recreate a sense of family waiting to go back home that's what it was it's like a it's always like some just sort of grabs you there does that make sense gives that didn't on day but I think that's right actually it does just grab you there I'm sure because I think you know I think it's grabbed us as a family here the opportunity to meet a member of our family who you know we didn't know of know where he was and anything and I just think it's it's fantastic you lose something you just find it yeah for Steven it's the end of a long emotional Journey but there is still one more thing that he has to do until now he has never known the whereabouts of his mother's remains I'd always been led to believe that Hannah was put in Colon grave somewhere in London and I've been trying to get in touch with the art the dases of London to try and find where so that I would actually have somewh that you know I could just take Vine but as it it turned out that when they went down there they actually brought Hannah home so just to be here it's now given me the opportunity to you know say goodbye properly at last after 47 years Steven finally gets the closure he's been looking for he's now looking forward to a new chapter in life and finding the rest of his extended family [Music] tomorrow night at 9: on living 2 we go in search of Bristol's Maritime past in the chilling most haunted almost live Pirates curse I I and it's a most haunted seafaring Affair next [Music]
