if you enjoyed this video please like and subscribe and hit the notification bell i post a new tom brady video every day let me deal with the pump and go that's why i'm sitting so high on that but he gotta play that remember we're playing brady it's a chess match he wants to do the eighth time that it means just as much to him maybe as the other seven i i i it's a rarity to have that ticking clock within your system yeah i would think yeah you know yes they're it's definitely rare did you what was your biggest battle against brady you had so many of them yeah what was it like going against brady in the playoff game right yeah it was probably for me and him i think we had so much respect for each other um because he understood the chess match and the chess match was i know what you're running and what i'm telling you is you may deliver the ball but somebody's going to pay for that right and so you know he you know he gave he said this thing on his interview a few weeks a few months back right that when he actually competed against me he knew that i knew i think the one thing about football that's changed over the years which i think is really hard for someone like me who's played a long time to watch is like they're it's not being taught the right way like a quarterback should only throw the ball to certain places because your receiver is in danger of getting hit for example when i used to play against ray lewis i wouldn't throw the ball to the middle of the field because he would he he'd go after you and he would hit like and we didn't always have the biggest receivers but he would hit him and knock him out of the game so he had to be careful where the ball was going you know me and julian edelman now like we work together now right but julian understood wherever that's a punishment back when we was playing ball right that's a punishment to catch the ball so it was chess like mike you feel you feel protected by your qb over here looking out for you yeah well he does a great job always protecting the receivers and you know the pass catchers always because he has a great feel of where you know they're coming from i knew where you're going hollow back side two by two back offset you come back and throw you motion to the three side to see if we in man we come back we shift out of man go back to two and then on one on one with your running back every time so that was the chest match how can you get me to move three steps to the right or three steps to the left or get ed to see something different and i'm like ed don't move trust me he's right quarterback messes up doesn't see the blitzer and or the line screws up i don't know what happened the quarterback of the line on offense the defensive player comes in and hits him hard and they throw a flag on the defense so they've almost moved the protection of your opponent to you as opposed to where it should be which is on yourself like if you're a quarterback you got to protect yourself and your players it shouldn't be the responsibility of your opponent to protect you and i think that's a real it's it creates really bad habits for players because you feel like i can basically do anything i could run and not slide i can throw the my receiver into any coverage and not have any repercussion for it the only thing to do is they're actually going to blame the defensive player for making a good solid hit and now the defensive player is going to feel like oh i can't do that even i feel like it was an offensive mistake so in the end i think it's a really disservice to the sport because the sport isn't being played at a high level like i i believe that it once was it actually deteriorates because you're not teaching the players the reasons and the fundamentals of what the sport should be and so that chess match between me him it was it was probably one of the most classic things ever never noticed because it was in the small changes that you had to know what we both were doing yeah it was it's one of the greatest battles that i used to stay up really late for and look at film enough to say somebody's gonna get knocked out because i know he gonna throw it and and so that was my thing my thing was he will throw it but there's a delivery that comes with that and that's what i think what made us so competitive against each other is we knew like he we knew how good they were i think i process a lot of information really quickly and the more you give me the better i usually perform but let me tell you somebody that you're dealing with somebody that i dealt with many times for almost 10 days he got a click in his hand and he's clicking to fly he's clicking he's clicking yeah to find where your weakness is i watch tape all day monday all day tuesday you know wednesday we practice thursday we practice friday we practice when i come home and i watch film then saturday before the game i watch film and then sunday morning i watch film you know if you want to perform at the highest level then you've got to prepare at the highest level all those binders is just logs of information you'd think we were like launching rockets best on go route stiff and off balance poor in transition we took advantage of all those things running and lifting has been much harder to develop than this this has kind of been in me it's one thing to analyze data and then it's another to apply it [Applause] when you finally go up against competition you're kind of faced with reality and if you kevin are not sitting down clicking like he clicking if he clicking five hours and you clicking one yeah you ain't winning this battle see this is a chess player mm-hmm brady's that that that's what makes this guy so hard to defend because you think he's gonna maybe he come at kevin and if he does guess what he's gonna run down the field i heard you said earlier he's gonna run down the field and let you know i'm glad you're talking most young kids they do not take time to say how do you be the master you must study a master how do you study a master it takes a lot of time to study a master it does it takes a lot of boring time to study a master i've given my body my everything every bit of energy for 18 years to it it's no excuses it's no whining it's no complaining you only have so much energy the clock's ticking on all of us are you willing to invest the time that it's going to take to beat tom brady go back to atlanta super bowl last year i challenged this young kid i said you got two weeks to play against arguably the greatest quarterback of all time but you headed out to a club brady ain't going to no club he already got the click in his hand i study all their techniques and i learn and when i get out there but what if they see your techniques so you have to have a lot of techniques so you have to work really hard that game in that fourth quarter you got to ask yourself this question i watched it ain't no way he out there on pure athleticism he don't know what a flip means he don't know what a two by two means and when brady takes the back and motion to back out and bringing back in what he's trying to identify it's simple it's simple math when you watch this guy play when you ask him why he can play so long he can play so long because there's no masters out there playing this glen brady you got kids who are just on pure athletic ability if you're going to compete against me you better be willing to give up your life because i'm giving up we knew outside of us and pittsburgh and them like the road was going to come through right those areas in that region and um 2011 for me i think when we went to new england and we lost that one i wouldn't i would never say i wanted it you know more i would just say i thought we were better equipped to do what we needed to do if we would have finished that thank you for watching and please like and subscribe as i post a new tom brady video every day
