here we go we got tom brady is uh is with us now tom thanks for coming on i know you've played in some in new england you've played in some kind of bad weather wind rain did the game plan did the strategy ever change when you played those games because you seemed to win all of them definitely not all of them first of all uh it's great to see you both at the same time and uh i could never turn you two down so the opportunity to come on and be with both you guys at the same time that's like an automatic yes so uh you guys are doing an amazing job so keep it up although i much prefer seeing you on both on the football field i think you're uh you guys are doing a pretty great job here too although that jersey on peyton's looking a little tighter than i remember yeah yeah yeah okay over there let's get off me don't don't dodge the question talk about the weather talk about your glove talk about why you left that weather to go to warm weather in tampa go ahead it's your time you're up buddy you know what the reality is i always considered myself and i told this to clyde the other day i always considered myself a cold weather quarterback but be being in here now down in the down south i'm a warm weather quarterback i mean that's just i mean screw that i mean i i never want to deal with that ever again i we play washington after so we play the saints next week and then we have a buy in washington i'm already checking the weather forecast in washington in november so it tells you how much i've softened up here in my very short period of time down here in in south florida it's pretty good absolutely yeah it looks like it's pretty good 600 congratulations see ya congratulations 600 touchdowns the first ever so uh that was fun to watch yesterday and you just keep somehow you keep getting better the older you get how is that possible uh i play with pretty good players right there that's one of them mike who just is a uh he said i gave the ball away um that was good and there was a lot to get the ball back trying to get that we got it back so i got it back there's a lot of negotiation is the ball in canton or have you made it into an nft talk about what the ball is it's it's shortly an nft you can autograph autograph.io you go there to bid on it uh there's a lot of great things auction items memorabilia and there's my boy tim negotiating with byron who gave to me byron realized he lost all of his leverage once he gave the ball away he should have held it and yeah yeah so if he would have held it he would have been sitting in the tom brady's suite for the rest of the season but uh amateur move on his part hey i think it worked out pretty well it just showed kind of what he got right there from it but i'm also giving him a bitcoin which i mean that's pretty cool too so i think he's still making out pretty well hey tom hey tom third and one right there they tried to run it i mean quarterback sneak you're one of the best at it like did y'all call those plays or you check into that at the line of scrimmage when you see one of the gaps open yeah sometimes there was a little both i obviously had the option to always do it um but at the same time there was there was called ones and again i yeah you know i i believe that if they're all someone moved if they're all inside go outside outside go inside if they're all if they're all deep they throw it short if they show it you know if they're all short throw it deep so you gotta gotta have enough flexibility with an offense to do whatever so it's tough that that stadium so tough to audible in and man that's a that's a real tough place to play as you guys know yeah and i think they tried right there you know because sometimes on those uh fourth and one quarterback sneaks adams will dive over the line and try to blow it up they tried to like go fast do a quick cadence fake the quarterback sneak but he uh he didn't he didn't take the bait and uh uh right there but did they call a penalty right there did they you know did they get the quarterback they get the quarterback for doing okay they called the timeout it was a fake alternative hey we got to go i like going for this though we got to keep going quick here uh let's keep going quick cause tom's got to go to bed here soon so let's keep going tom what do you like here fourth and one what's your curfew i like going for it we're past it but only for you guys but i break my snake with you yeah i like a sneaker especially there you go it's kind of hard to stop you know at the end of the day you got a lot of you got 900 pounds there in that little wedge if you got to get behind the 900 pounds and just push it forward so that's pretty it's pretty hard to stop right you see that little a gap right there between the the center and the guard right where jamis goes that's nice two and a half and that's pretty good hey tom are you all a silent count team when y'all played in seattle under center and shotgun or did y'all try to use cadence under center yeah we tried both um under center it can get tough um yeah he's using selling count the whole time um yep it's tough you know silent count is it's it i asked the tackles a lot that's what i do i just if if they can hear me we obviously want to use the cadence but if they can't hear me then we've obviously got to under center go to to um you know the silent count but you know we all got spoiled last year playing with no fans because it was just basically you know it was pretty crazy i mean especially very fortunate for me being a new offense you know that's people underestimate how crowd noise plays a factor just in the overall communication of things so you know when you have the advantage in the home field advantage you know those games can kind of get away from the other teams because you get so much momentum when you play on the road you know in the crowd noise it's just you know one or two you know if it even if you know you get i don't know 60 70 plays in a game if seven of them are miscommunicated that's ten percent of the game that you know you gotta you know you gotta pretty much struggle to overcome tough conditions man good job right there good throw there hey tom the saints are playing it reminds me of of last year right before opening day buccaneers versus saints it's a friday i'm headed to my son's flag football practice that i'm coaching we're undefeated by the way and you asked me like how to get like how i got the colts offense integrated into the broncos offense when i signed with denver and my first thought was why are you waiting to 48 hours before the game to ask me that question but somehow you got it integrated and you won the super bowl i know it took you more than one game two i think it took you about four games into your your mike mccoy era and then i think after about four games you're like ah screw that let's just kind of do the things that i used to do but i think i'm kind of actually learning the peyton manning offense i got this dice right dual right you know all these these formations i've never heard of so that actually took a while all the language is the same but at the end of the day and in cuts and then cut and i'll cuts an outcut i mean it's just however you call it's different verbiage so we all kind of run the same stuff at the end of the day tom taking all my records hey tom you're taking all my records and you also took all my coaches bruce arians clyde christensen tom moore i mean i feel like you're you know single white female stage one stalker clinger here buddy i have more pain you don't want to start with me i have more peyton manning stories at this point there i could write a book on the amount of pit all these coaches that believe me thought you loved you so much they gave me every bit of story they ever had so they better start you better start mending some of those relationships back because they've given up all the goods clyde flight said tom how can you destroy 15 years of a relationship by telling peyton some of these things so um needless to say you're always the topic you were always the topic of conversation in our quarterback room just so you guys know speaking of clyde christensen long time coach with the colts true or false clyde's body is good for tb-12 advertising method right true or false it's close before find allowed to wear that your t-shirts and hats i don't think i see clyde short are you trying to short the tv12 stock here what's going on yes that's right i need to get clyde non-packaged foods too much of what he eats actually comes in a wrapper and you got to tear it apart i said clyde just because it's popcorn doesn't mean it doesn't have calories you can't eat eight popcorns in one sitting you can't do that oh that's the before picture on the fourth down here fourth and one again here tom tom take it again twice sneaking again oh that's tough i i don't think i've ever snuck it twice in a row i mean they got to be guarding those a gaps maybe maybe the kamara off off one of the off one of the uh in the c gap there right up on the edges no they snuck it they got it again james went to the other side i went to the left give it to the big fella need a mouth guard we had your boy gronk on the show a few weeks ago and uh he said that he does not watch any film and then he came back and said that you watch all the film for him can you explain how you do that i've never heard of that before you know the thing about gronk is he's such a quick study i mean sometimes when you give brock too much information i mean he processes it so quickly you can't give it to him too much early in the week so i like it i like his process it's worked pretty well um he doesn't his mind doesn't need to be bogged down with you know film study i mean he just he'll come to me later in the week and i'll say hey you know what do i got to do and i said just you know get open catch the ball and run with it it's not that hard you're a tight end you don't have to call the plays and just get open that's what you got to do run away from the guys on the other way you know in the other colored jersey how hard is that that sounds simple seattle's defense is is changed right i mean seattle for years you know three deep three buzz very simple on what they did they got too many guys on the field here but just i just want to talk about let's kind of talk about defenses with you we'll take a break we'll come back i want to hear about some defensive philosophies coming back stay with us pal for sure all right we're back we got tom brady saints are in the red zone tom talk about your philosophy in the red zone to me it was always touch down first then check down right take what the defense gives you don't force it talk about your philosophy down here inside the 25 obviously you know with the field getting compressed so much it's it's tougher to throw it i mean if you can the easiest way to score ultimately is to run the ball you know hard if you can't run the ball into some of those defenses where some of those receivers are double covered so i always think that's where it gets hard you know the fronts get really you know tough and tight they don't have to defend so much to the perimeter run game um if you can run it in ultimately it's probably the easiest thing it's not the place to put in you know who we cornered the mic the market on you know the five eight receivers you know this isn't the area for the you know the the welkers and the the the danny woodheads and the amendolas this is where you need the gronks and the you know the big guys so moss boss is a great area i i don't know was stokely any good down there there's jameis that's a good james play see ran it i like that the fake pump was good everywhere was that the pump fake across the line of scrimmage i feel like he was like three yards across the line of scrimmage but the the pump fake still works past the line of scrimmage and and the defense would you give them any credit for being you know smart enough to figure that out you know jumping no i wouldn't i mean i believe me have you ever been to some of those defensive meeting rooms i mean you wonder why they play defense and after about two minutes you go yep they can never be an offensive player so you know defense is like is kind of like a a you know a dog a dog chasing a car you know just get the guy with the ball so you know obviously we had a lot of great defensive players i'm sure anton i'm sure antoine winfield really appreciates those comments for sure so tell me how that conversation goes at breakfast in the morning all right second goal one yard line hey tom how many goal line runs and passes would you all have right uh two runs two passes kind of each game yeah yeah you know sometimes we're a little heavier um yeah that probably a little more than that um depending like yesterday we had weight we had way more we you know we've thrown the ball quite a bit inside the five-yard line um but yeah i mean in this when this goal line personnel grouping maybe two and two is exactly right you know not much oh that's stuff that's enough to stop those so you get those big stuff like 97 right there i mean that's a that's a lot of man right there to to try to you know move off the ball so you know trying to run off tackle like that third goal from the three here i want to see man-to-man um i want to see man-to-man because i can make a one-on-one slant or a fade throw outside i probably don't want to see some kind of combination double coverage like tom said that's going to make me hold the ball right the last thing we want to do is take a sack here they played man oh oh man dangerous throws could we go through it could we go forward here still fourth and goal probably kick it tom you want to go for it here i uh i mean it's good to get points on the board especially on the road it's still a one score game i i think you got it so they played now they played zone they got that zone they had some crossing routes they had all the all these crossers and they zoned it off i love crossing routes in the zone coverage just so you guys know yeah to me i mean i mean all the analytics you know do you go for it or not i mean the series was not going really well down there so just take the points like why do you think all of a sudden you're going to be good on fourth down take the points forget the analytics tom we got a few more questions when you come back and i promise you we'll let you go after that so you can get to bed put your pajamas on now if you want pal all right baby i will i need my old miss pajamas all right welcome back uh saints had a good drive there converted on a couple of fourth and ones to get down just could not get the touchdown i had to settle for the field goal but we still got tom brady uh with us right now he's still awake and uh he's going to take us through halftime so pay you still got the jersey on peyton you only got like three more minutes and then you can take off that jersey you don't have to wear it in the second half i'm sweating i'm sweating bad you know i i don't have the pit stains but i'm sweating in this jersey i can't wait to take it off tom i i was getting on payton uh last a couple weeks ago he had a bad sweating problem he was sweating through the shirt we got a little picture uh we might want to show you here in a second i see yeah yeah after this kick of course we get the we get the wind uh there's there it is there's a pit stain right there and but i have another picture to show you that makes this look like nothing it's from the hall of fame it's a picture of you and peyton and it looks like did you dump the bucket of gatorade on peyton after his hall of fame speech what is going on there it's a i mean a gatorade shower i mean there's no better way to celebrate than a gatorade shower or uh granted it was in canton ohio in the middle of august which i would say is not like you know 20 humidity so he had a long day we got to give him some excuses for that but it was pretty cool you look cool collective i mean you look perfect i was in air conditioning for uh and peyton was out there giving you know speeches and that was actually an amazing thing to be a part of i was so happy to be there watch peyton i said you know earlier today how much i admired watching both you guys play your incredible careers and um you know the games we played against each other although i enjoyed the much much more the ones i played against peyton and eli um you know you guys you guys just we had so many great battles so i just enjoyed it i really enjoyed them all there's something about those silver helmets that when you saw him it was like it was like you talked about lighting up eli it was just unstoppable and uh and whatever the d lineman uh drank before the game i i got to get some of those you know between strahan and oc and and uh you know justin and then a few of those other guys because i'm still getting over some of that soreness tom obviously you had uh you know you played seattle in a in a super bowl um and you had the great uh you know great defensive play by malcolm and and to get the uh get the interception there at the end and i don't want to talk about that play but i do want to talk a little bit about your celebration during that play i don't want to talk about your vertical jump i want to talk about what how you just had jimmy g right there and you just completely ignored him saying i'm not gonna give you a high five and just nothing just like nope you get nothing what was up with that very telling there i think that that vertical jump was i mean that was impressive for me i mean i mean that was like i 14 inches or something like that which is look there can you get it can we slide a credit card right there jimmy i didn't see him sorry get off of me i you get nothing and like it i'm just hugging nothing i've had a lot of years where i go for the high five and i missed right so and now i just i don't even do it anymore i'm like screw it i don't need it you know no more high fives just fist bumping robot they're overrated same same play they tried earlier eli that that cover three match man to man on the outside just a go route they hit at the metcalf a little easier target right that high ball to him good throw there lockett actually could have made that play but that's pretty good coverage as well good coverage he's a rookie uh third round pick i was studying him today yeah yeah from stanford diva does a good job he's a little like i know the saints have always liked those bigger taller corners he's kind of you know he's big he's rangy they traded for bradley roby who's probably only playing 20 snaps a game was a really talented player so um saints got a really athletic defense this guy's played well bradley's really good player you'd rather see a a tom what would you rather see a talented defense that lines up in the same defense every single play cover three cover three buzz like old seattle are a defense that's maybe not as talented but has a lot of exotic blitzes overload blitzes multiple disguises tell me the truth here what's what's tougher to go against for you yeah great question and i i think of those early miami defenses you know 2000 to about 2005. yes they lined up you know i don't know the same front same coverages and i i think the worst games of my career was it was against the miami dolphins i mean like 79 yards passing 115 yards passing and we couldn't move and we couldn't complete passes it was embarrassing and they didn't do anything different and then you know that's that's one style and then there's other styles like the rex ryan styles that i would say in the mid you know 2008 2009 2010 those were really tough too you and i talked about those you know they're just become so much to to handle um so i a lot of it comes down to the players you know any defense with zach thomas and jason taylor is going to be a pretty good defense um but yeah i mean these these teams that can really challenge you with a lot of varieties of looks can be challenging too so i think now the game's more built to you know offensively to handle a lot of those exotics there's a lot of you know balls where you can hand off you could throw it you know we've learned how to spread teams out a lot more to figure out kind of where the matchups are and where you can find some quick throws so um you know it's it's i think defenses have to change a little bit from here from from time to time but i mean coach belichick's defense hasn't changed much in 20 years um it may look a little bit different to me i mean i mean to me the belichick defense the tampa monty kiffin defense seattle legion of boone pittsburgh i mean you knew exactly what they were going to do they weren't confusing baltimore was different they had talented players and they were confusing that made it tough yeah but tom somebody one time asked tony dungy hey how would you stop peyton in their offense and tony actually answered the question he told him hey you got to mix it up you got to play all these i'm like coach what are you doing well he was still your head so my question to you tom is how do you stop this buck's offense what's the key be honest like tony let's lay it all out there for you guys um you know i like a lot of one-on-one coverage to to mike evans and antonio and chris godwin and you just do the best you can i think you gotta just you know try to come up and challenge us and you know just just get up there and and see what you can do and see if you can guard us and you know i think that's really been a style that's been successful so i really encourage that and see if we can get open against chicago did a great job yesterday that worked really well by the way congratulations on knowing how many downs in a series against the bears that's big improvement for you coming out of last year's game way to go pal a lot a lot's changing here i've you know more just another year of experience so and and um you know i obviously to go to michigan for for my grades so getting the four was actually i felt pretty good you know four what's a four or five so i got a little confused that happens same same defense same defense as a minute of the go eli oh here we go video here yep it's four it's it's four four four four quarter he's saying fourth quarter fourth quarter how come i never got a chance to to to a queue up some uh low lights of your guys careers there's gotta be a few in there i mean for god's sake oh believe me i mean believe me believe me eli has them and he's showing them i mean i mean he's got me in this jersey right now i can promise you there's some there's some negative plays coming up here in a that minute the same situation as a minute ago hey eli it was empty saints were were kind of threatening with an interior blitz they called the time out again to avoid the hot here we go this guy blitzes up the middle it didn't blitz so we should be blocked throwing it away uh-oh oh don't do that don't throw that incomplete that's the only thing about geno eli occasionally he has a tendency to bail the pocket a little bit early right those offensive linemen are expecting him to stay inside he bails a little early i think that might be a pick definitely oh right there he came i don't know he came out later he came out late right eli i mean he bails to the right yeah he bails to the right i mean tom me you we don't have an option to bail to the right we have no choice but to stay in the pocket but he bails a little early sometimes it puts that line in a tough situation you know i think that's what russell did so well is he extended plays but he stayed in the pocket he'd kind of look around extend step up and kind of hit guys just keep running they keep running routes for them always always kind of saying hey he might throw this anywhere you know sometimes we have this post routes kind of love of the game clear out all of a sudden russell starts scrambling and you know you run hard and he throws a 65-yard bomb and hit you so um you know i think that's that's kind of the difference between gino gino's kind of trying to get out of the pocket some where russell did a great job staying in the pocket and extending those plays from right inside there yeah he kind of scrambles from within the pocket you got to have a lot of confidence nobody blocked that important yeah you got to have a lot of confidence in your in your speed to stand in there you know like a lot of those guys let those d-linemen get close and then they escape you know i think for for us who you know there's three of us on here that are really fleet of foot it was uh you know throw at all costs so uh it was a matter of survival seattle seattle is blitzing atoms but playing cover two behind it so they still want to be that cover two and but you know kind of the best of both worlds is blitzing adams and then playing cover two uh behind us so we have the two minute warning here but tom you got to stay with us and watch this two minute drive because there's not many people better than you doing all right we're back we got tom brady still with us we got a two minute drill god bless america tom you were the best at a two-minute drill after you all had deferred right and the saints deferred in this game talk about having the last shot the art of having a two-minute drill scoring but leaving seattle no time to have a chance to answer yeah i think it's a you know the middle eight minutes of the game you know are so important to the overall outcome in winning the middle eight minutes and who wins the end of the first half and then the start of the third quarter so a lot of times when you obviously defer and you get the ball on offense um to go down there and score we did before the half yesterday you know and and uh you know you can create a 14 point swing if you score before half and then you score coming out of the third quarter without you know them ever touching the ball so it's a it's it's great to have the ball in this situation you definitely don't want to give it back to your opponents like as you referred to we called we always called that the last shot you know you don't want to come down in a basketball game and you know throw up a three-pointer with 18 seconds left on on the uh on the shot clock so although i never minded passing up but i never never passed up a shot certainly an open one there you go get it to him he's pretty good when he gets you start when yeah when did you start kind of your two-minute drill was ever when it hit a certain amount of time when it got under you know sometimes i remember watching new england it would be almost you know really close to a minute y'all are still huddling up and taking your time did was it when it hit a certain mark yeah a lot of that depend on how many timeouts we had so obviously there was no rush sir at this point you're basically out of your whatever you could call it two minute but you know they have enough time to run whatever they need now from the whatever 11 yard line in so you know a lot of it was you know there's different philosophies um when i was at the patriots for a long time the philosophy was we definitely don't want the other team to touch the ball so if you got the ball whatever we need to do to at least keep them from scoring that's the goal number one the second thing is you know don't let's let's go down and get in scoring position the third thing was that score touchdown so if you could score a touchdown with no time remaining that was the the uh the best scenario uh oh good play james gonna love those plays let the defense think it's a fumble pick it up with one hand and throw it to camaro for a touchdown just like sean payton drew it up on friday's red zone period tom how did how did you guys call that at the colts did you when you when you fumbled a snap like that did you have a name for that no yeah i was so far away from trying to get on that fumble like jeff you messed up with a bad snap you jump on it eli he's throwing these option routes to camara a lot more accurately right early in the season he was a little bit off he's hitting camaro right in the chest camaro can get north up the field right away got the touchdown right there that's pretty good progress there by jamis yeah and i think it's because they're playing more zone right if when it was man-to-man that's when he would he didn't feel comfortable kind of throwing that throwing that route before he got you know out of his break but in the zone you can obviously see he's wide open no one's near him and he's throwing that nice and accurate i mean there's tear right there there's little tears a peyton manning staple right there there it is it's just it's just it's pretty soft there by by seattle it's a little too much cushion down there in the red zone i like to kind of have somebody more in that five yard flat right make it make it tough on james you know make camaro have to make more of a more of a you know kind of an in-breaking option route as opposed to just being able to hook up that was a little probably a little too easy seattle never gave me any of those easy ones in the times i was playing against them i promise you that eight for 109 to camaro that's the one guy wouldn't want to let get off you know it's he's pretty unstoppable all right tom so 40 seconds left so like is the coach mad at you because you scored too quickly right there or is he okay giving it back to seattle with 35 seconds i think he's okay with it at the end of the day i i think uh you know they got a good rush looks like they're rushing pretty good tonight and it's tough weather so it's going to be hard to go the distance with 30 seconds they got no timeouts left so that that's this is probably a non-scoring scenario i think seattle just gets out of the half and i i think you're exactly right they're going to run the ball so we're going to play a little game of true or false if you have time here we go you ready true or false bob kraft lets you keep your sweet at foxborough true or false false okay you ripped your under armour pants on a golf course in a match against me true although they weren't under armour okay there we go matt damon text you every night before bed true false just kidding wow damon has moved on from his loyal his patriots he's now a bucks fan say it ain't so i already asked you about clyde christensen being good for the tb12 brand i think we know the answer to that one eli you got anything for him i'm out i've already i've grilled tom i gave him my best shot i got nothing left for him i just uh you know he's playing great football i still haven't figured he never gave him the answer of how he keeps doing it you know 44 throwing 600 touchdowns he throws four touchdowns every single game of the season it's just uh it's impressive it's fun to watch he's one of the great competitors and uh just keep doing it man good luck the rest of the way we appreciate you paul thanks a lot for coming on yeah my pleasure love seeing you guys keep up the great work best your families hope you're enjoying uh you know some extra time with them and i hope i get to see you guys soon
