[Music] foreign hello world there are so many ways to get around Tokyo that I thought it would be fun to try and see how many different Transportation methods can be used in a day the Only Rule I have is no amusement park rides as that would turn into a trip to Tokyo Disneyland which technically isn't in Tokyo I've done previous all-day trips like this in my videos Tokyo by train and Tokyo by bike unlike those trips I have my sister-in-law AKO joining me our first ride of the day was on a normal local train to our first stop machia station there we wanted to get onto the Tokyo Sakura tram there's only one other legally recognized tram in Tokyo which I actually passed by in my previous Tokyo by bike video despite liking trains I don't actually know much about them so I was surprised to see that these trams have traffic lights instead of Crossing barriers they wait politely for the traffic to stop before Crossing [Music] foreign [Music] despite being a it runs on its own separate tracks except for a few small portions like on this little section of Road between two stations [Music] [Music] all right [Music] so we were gonna get this bike share but there is nothing available it's all gray so there's another share called Loop which has something that's about a few hundred meters away so we're gonna walk over that way [Music] next we're going to Trout an electric scooter which is a rental option that has only recently come to Tokyo in 2022 almost there there we go you must do good right though okay so I think so you just push it and then yeah oh you just push this button you have to be moving first and then you push the button and that works Echo was quite nervous to try riding new things [Music] [Music] delicious of it are you ready hi yes okay let's go very soon by the way I had a GoPro attached to my wrist which I quickly learned isn't a great way to film ideally I would have had a chest mouth or helmet attachment next time the thing about these electric kickboard scooters is that they're not allowed to be ridden on sidewalks and other pedestrian paths which is different from bicycles which are mostly allowed it you pay attention throughout the video you'll see many many bikes riding along pedestrian paths which I suppose I should call multi-use paths since they're not only for pedestrians so if I had to choose between a bike and a scooter there is no way I would want a scooter bikes are more comfortable faster have baskets to carry things and can be ridden in more places it was a bit frustrating seeing all these bike riders who weren't riding that fast passing me that's because these scooters have a max speed of 15 kilometers or 9 miles an hour it's very easy for bicycles to get faster than that in this park I had to get off the scooter and push it since they're not allowed to be ridden in them however the electric pedal assist bike which can go much faster was completely fine being ridden here in my opinion bikes are accepted and normalized while electric scooters are seen as a potential nuisance I've seen these Swan Boats at several Parks throughout Japan but I've never thought to ride on one well today this was going to change [Music] oh so fun it's 800 Yen for 30 minutes so for a novelty ride not terribly expensive if you want to go on the cheap you can ride the regular paddle boat for 500 yen the surprise I had was that it was much more maneuverable and easier to use than I thought you have a steering wheel and you either pedal forward or backward if you can ride a bike you can ride a swan boat and I think they'd be incredibly hard to tip over so if you don't know how to paddle a boat and are worried of tipping over perhaps the swan boat is the ride for you but I mean you're in a little pond in a major Park so I don't think you really have to worry about anything no matter what you decide to use even though I think it's very touristy to ride on these vessels I think it's fun to get out on the water and it's cheap and easy to do I didn't do it on this trip but you can also rent boats on the moat around the Tokyo Imperial Palace as well okay so we are here and we want to go to here to return this so let's go something else I should mention is that the electric kickboard scooter sit down and ride scooter and all electric foldable bike are all considered small vehicles in the 50cc class so you need a driver's license to ride them this limits which paths you can take although the kickboard scooter has some exceptions for using cycling paths something to note about a lot of the newer shared services for much of the electric vehicles is that their locations are currently not as convenient as the share bike company's docomo and hello cycling that have been operating for five to ten years with the newer share Services the locations were more random often in unused space in parking lots or around apartment buildings when we went to return the loop bike the location was all full so we had to travel to another one you have to take a photo once you return the bike or scooter to let them know exactly where you put it [Music] since the goal was to ride on as many things as possible taking the bus was an easy Choice Bueno was quite close to asaksa so we took the short bus ride over there the IC card system you use for the trains also works with the buses so it's as simple as tapping and going [Music] in the past I've been guilty of overlooking buses in Tokyo but they really are an affordable and easy way to get to certain areas [Music] oh [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] foreign a place we went to that's probably not so familiar to tourists is this old school amusement park I know I know amusement parks were supposed to be off the table for this trip but for some reason I really wanted to ride the panda [Music] okay [Applause] [Music] okay at 200 yen for a few minutes of riding it's one of the most expensive rides we'll be doing today I've seen these at normal non-amusement Parks before but I didn't know exactly where I could ride one in this area so we entered the amusement park here's my review it's very easy to drive even a kid could do it you can also reverse with the additional safety feature of beeping when you're backing up huh [Music] whoever is on top will be the center of attention for jealous Watchers so be ready for eyeballs pointed your way I do have two complaints though you're limited to quite a small area in which you can travel and two you can walk faster than the panda but really I don't think you'll find a more stylish ride than this in all of Tokyo [Applause] [Music] [Applause] [Music] we're now walking around a saksa which is a major tourist area I'd say the main area is the lead up to the Buddhist temple sensoji but there are quite a bit of stores and sites around it's amazing to see the difference between 2000 when I first visited and now it's many times busier the crowds you currently see are still quite subdued as the borders only recently opened up in the fall of 2022 I'm sure that whenever you're watching this it'll be much busier over here they have all the rickshaws in Japanese it's called Jin nikisha which literally translates as human-powered vehicle very appropriate name [Music] hello I wasn't planning on riding on one this trip as I thought it would be very expensive and I don't know I guess it felt like such a touristy thing to do but after hearing we could take a quick ride for 3000 Yen I thought why not I shouldn't say I regret taking the ride but it was the least satisfying of all the transportation methods I tried because of the starting location you're stuck in traffic a lot of the time the guides are nice and ours was making jokes but when you're trying to film silence can be golden toys also it really does feel weird sitting there being pulled around by another human so many people staring at you the driver happened upon a lost IC card so he evoked the Finders Keepers Rule and grabbed it no he was a good guy he turned it in we didn't end up going on this bus today but you can see a lot riding in an open top bus around the city versus the rickshaw I find the pricing isn't too bad 2 800 Yen for a two hour tour so my recommendation is skip the Rickshaw and go on the open bus tour instead if you're getting around Tokyo it'll be fairly hard to avoid using the Subway at some point people like to imagine that the trains in Tokyo are always packed but the truth is that it's very dependent on the time of day Direction and line you're taking for people not doing the nine to five thing I think you'll be able to find a seat the majority of the time [Music] not all stations in Tokyo have these safety barriers and doors but for more and more of them this is becoming standard I think it's debatable what the standing on this escalator is riding something but I'm going to count it do you hear that sound I'm fairly certain it's the anti-rodent deterrent my wife absolutely hates the sound these types of underground shopping areas are very common in Tokyo I find a lot of them will either have restaurants you can eat at or shops you can buy food from I also realized that with our filming style we're often seeing people from behind so I apologize for all the butt shots since we're in the area I suppose I should point out Nihon Bashi which acts as the center of Tokyo when measuring travel distances the toll Expressway is now starting to be removed and then rerouted underground at a total cost of over 2 billion US Dollars the project is not set to complete until 2041. we're now in front of Tokyo Station it's modern in the front and the sadly old school in the back despite its name and size it's not the busiest station in Tokyo however it is the main station for shinkansen trains bullet trains which is what we're buying a ticket for that we're heading to shinagawa another station in Tokyo [Music] [Music] does anyone use the Shing content for travel within a city I highly doubt it but we're trying to make an all-encompassing video so why not [Music] so great about the shinkansen is that they leave minutes and you don't need reservations or Security checks to get on you board it like any other train in the city so it's so much nicer than traveling by a plane there's no arriving early no luggage checking very roomy seating cell phone reception along most of the line and you arrive at a city's major Transportation Hub [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] the major downside for residents of Japan is that the cost can be quite High between major hubs like Tokyo and Osaka gong by bus our plane is almost always cheaper for our ridiculous trip it's 1040 Yen but if we took a local train the price would have only been 170 yen if you're visiting Japan and traveling between cities a Japan Rail Pass lets you take unlimited rides on the Jr Network and will almost always be the most affordable option okay [Music] it's after 2PM and we still hadn't eaten lunch yet so we decided to get some bread to eat on the go on [Music] our next stop is the Monorail station but to get there we decided to hop into a taxi you can generally find taxis at most train stations and on occasion if you're going to very specific locations with a group of people they can be the most affordable option I think they're the most expensive conventional way to get around Tokyo there are plenty of reasons to grab a taxi like perhaps you have a lot of luggage or the trains have stopped running in the early hours of the morning or you have a disability or your elderly or you're like us and want to use as many Transportation methods in a single day as possible five minute break five minutes after arriving at the Monorail station we finally get a few minutes to enjoy our lunch because we want to ride as many things as we can we don't have time to have a proper meal [Music] are you having fun are you having fun yes I do so happy [Music] the next and last time it is I think going on the Tokyo monorail is one of the most scenic ways to travel around Tokyo as you're always getting a nice elevated view of your surroundings this line runs from haneda airport to hamamat's troll station from which you can hop onto the yamanote and other train lines there's another monorail line in the western part of Tokyo called the tamatoshi monorail line that I really want to ride but haven't had the chance yet maybe on another trip [Music] I thought this mini luggage conveyor belt was interesting there are elevators at the station but this is convenient for all those passengers trying to quickly get to the airport which is the terminal stop of the line to get to the next place we wanted to go we took a bike share there are three bikes okay this one is by dokomo and they've been around a long time and have many locations unlike the previous share service I don't believe there are Max limits on the amount of bikes you can park at one place the thing about all the ride share Services is that they all have different apps and ways to unlock and return so you have to figure out how to do so as a warning to tourists there may not be easy ways to sign up for some of the services due to language phone numbers credit cards and driver's licenses I do know that the docomo Bike Share service offers one day passes to tourists that you can buy online or at convenience stores [Music] thank you and we've made it to our next Transportation method the elevator we figured a standard elevator would be boring so we wrote on this free glass one to get a half decent view of the city [Applause] [Music] foreign [Music] if you're on a budget there are free observation decks scattered throughout the city the tallest being the Metropolitan government Towers but if you're going to pay my recommendation has always been Tokyo City View where you can go out on the roof it's especially the best if you want to take photo or video since you can use a tripod in the lower Glaston area the roof is handheld only I haven't been to the new deck at shibia scramble but the images I've seen online look really nice so it could also be a worthwhile place to visit although for filming people like me just know that tripods aren't allowed [Music] next we'll ride on the Yuri kamome Tokyo's first fully automated transit system I used to think it was a monorail but it runs on rubber tires on concrete tracks and so it is not it's noticeably not as smooth as trains especially when compared to the incredibly smooth Shing content however the views you get are worth the price of admission while you would think that you'd get a fantastic view crossing the bridge your view is like being in a cage the best view is from those open top buses I previously mentioned you can also get a cool view from a boat odaiba was built on reclaimed land in 1853 and supposed to act as defensive batteries against sea attack that failed it was then supposed to be a showcase for futuristic living for an expo in 1996 but the project was haltered but after that time it was opened up to commercial activities and became a popular entertainment district there are a bunch of museums and malls and lots of open space so it's got a different feel from all the other parts of Tokyo they used to have a ferris wheel which I shot on my Tokyo by train video but that's been torn down since the lease for the area expired um [Music] you look so Golden Apple how do this [Music] odaiba is one of only two areas with beach access although you're not supposed to swim in it go for now you might question why water taxis in Tokyo exist when it would be faster easier and cheaper traveling by land the company states that land-based Transportation has limited the use of water vessels in Tokyo but after the 2011 tohoku earthquake and tsunami their usefulness was reassessed you see most docs are infrastructure for disaster prevention their mission is to raise awareness of disaster prevention infrastructure while serving as emergency transportation in the event of a disaster since the docks are scattered throughout Tokyo you can travel between any of them you're paying about 20 000 Yen an hour but it is for the entire boat so if you wanted to go from Skytree to odaiba which is a very common route on tourist ferries it cost 14 000 Yen but if you pack the boat with eight people the max allowed the ride would be 1750 Yen per person which is basically the same price as Tokyo Crews but yes it's generally not a cheap ride they do have some set courses that are more affordable where you can get the entire boat at a specific time for a certain route our ride is listed as lasting 11 minutes but looking at the footage it came out to 20. our cost was 5000 yen [Music] foreign [Music] I've always found these establishments only accessible by these little Alleyways to be so fascinating I like them because they feel like a secret passageway into some Hidden World oh [Music] this is shinigawa station where we got off the shinkansen earlier in the day this station is a good visual example of how big they can be this tunnel is crossing the tracks from one side of the station to the other that's why if you're meeting up with someone at a station in Tokyo you generally have to be very specific about exactly which exit and which Landmark you want to meet up at [Music] [Applause] thank you [Music] [Applause] [Music] thank you [Music] [Music] [Music] something I've been wanting to do for years is ride on one of these boats they are called yakatabune means a house for high-class people you know Nobles like Samurai literally it translates as a houseboat for high-class people but really it's a party boat like many Japanese places you take your shoes off before entering while I had the desire to go the smoking culture in Japan was different a decade ago and to go into one would have meant an assault of smoke which didn't work for me since I have asthma however there are now smoke-free boats available so I decided to hold life form from's first born in Kai on one fonankai is a year-end party and in December the katabunes are very busy hosting them they provide a traditional Japanese multi-course Meal which is called kaisaki Yori it's customary to pour for one another so that's what we did [Music] and again we found ourselves at Rainbow Bridge returning to where we started our Tokyo water taxi ride in odaiba at this point they stopped the boat and let everyone out onto the roof if you saw my previous video about how Kyoto prohibits certain colors you'd know that this type of cityscape wouldn't be possible there like I said this time of year is very popular with yakatabunes so we saw many many boats gathered here doing the same thing we'll miss I guess I'll be on my way now [Music] of course I would never recommend someone write all these things in a single day but I had a really great time checking out the variety of Transportation methods that Tokyo has to offer the neat thing is that there are many things I didn't get a chance to write on so for transportation lovers Tokyo really is a paradise Maybe yeah [Music] as always thanks for watching see you next time peace
