welcome back to the channel uh wanted to go over a really quick video i wanted to go over the first seven things you should do when you get your steam deck [Music] let's start with an obvious number one when you first get into the steam deck you want to sign in if you haven't created a steam account before this is where you're going to get into the gateway to all things pc gaming uh don't be worried about it the big thing that i'm going to recommend is once you've logged in go find the app and make sure that you do the authenticator so the authenticator app is fantastic it's going to be a double layer of security it works really with iphones i don't have an android right now so i can't tell you but it works super well with iphones and actually will pop up on your screen or on your apple watch and tell you the code the second you try to log in so that is a fantastic way to keep your account secure and make sure no hackers get you boom number three get your set of bluetooth headphones and get them paired the process is pretty simple i'm using a wireless pair of earbuds you could use air pods something from sony anything like that the steps are going to be you're going to hit the steam button on the left when that pops up you're going to go all the way down from home to settings once you're in settings you can scroll down from general all the way to bluetooth you're not going to audio for this you're going all the way to bluetooth when you get to bluetooth you'll tab right with your d-pad and you'll turn your bluetooth on if it's off you'll scroll all the way down and you'll see paired devices should have nothing in it you're going to go down a little bit further to available to pair and your headphones should pop up in there as long as you have them in pairing mode that's it hit select and you have paired your bluetooth headphones all right number four let's talk about quick settings number four is the quick settings that's that button with the three dots on the right you're going to use this button to access any and all pertinent information in the middle of gaming so at the top you'll have your battery and your wi-fi and stuff showing up however if you click the three dots button on the right directly below the touchpad you will have a plethora of things that you can adjust you'll get your notifications are in there first next thing you'll find is going to be your friends so you can create chat you can do kind of all that stuff see what your buds are doing directly from there if you scroll down a little further you'll get to the quick settings that's going to be the little cog icon the quick settings are going to be your airplane mode wi-fi bluetooth any of those toggles that you want to do right away a quick tip for saving a little bit of battery if you turn off game rumble and steam haptics at the bottom right when you're traveling you need more battery that'll stop the actual haptic motors which are physical things vibrating as soon as you get rid of those that might save you a little bit of battery uh on to the next thing we're gonna go down to that battery performance section so it looks like a battery logo when you go in there you'll tab over to the right it'll start with your actual projected battery life this is how you can kind of get an idea of what game you're using and how much battery it's training uh if you drop down below you'll see the overlay it goes in many different versions showing you everything from just your fps to as much information as you could possibly want i typically leave it on number one which is just the fps that one's good for me because then i can always see where i'm at right next thing down we're going to go past the basic view and you're going to get to something that says performance settings you're going to go to user per game profile and the very next thing down that says frame limit that is tip number five once you're in this performance overlay on the right side you're going to drop to the frame limit and below it it says refresh rate what you want to do is select the refresh rate and you're going to scroll all the way down from 60 to 40. this is going to physically change the refresh rate of your screen and physically hardware limited this is going to be massive boost for battery life anything between 30 and 40 as long as the frame times are normal should be a really really smooth experience on a screen this small you don't need 60 it's not going to be a game changer in most games and most people may not even notice the difference between 40 and 60. yell at me in the comments if you disagree but the reality is most people won't notice you're going to go up from there and you're going to go to frame rate limit and you're going to drop that from off to 40. this is going to be the final piece of the puzzle so this 40 refresh rate and the 40 frame limit will potentially save battery life give you better performance and make it easier for you to last longer on a charge boom all right number six i'm not gonna put both hands up holding a steam deck if you were to take the steam button or the three dot button on the right the quick access button and hold either of those down for long enough all of the steam shortcuts will pop up so what you want to do is maybe check those out and start memorizing and learning them some of the big ones are going to be like show keyboard if you're in chrome or any of those apps that need a keyboard that don't pop up automatically when you touch the text box uh that one's going to be steam plus x if you need to force shut down a game that absolutely is just not closing hasn't happened to me yet and i haven't needed this but that one's steam plus b and if you hold the two together as a long press bing bang boom uh but you get the you get the gist of it um one of the highlight ones that i'm gonna throw out there my favorite one is if you're to hold down the three dots and use the left joystick to go up or down that's the fastest way no matter where you're at in this machine to raise and lower the screen brightness i would also probably turn off automatic screen brightness it doesn't seem to do anything for me um and so maybe it'll help you with battery if you just manually control it alright number seven our final tip of the day charging while playing i know a lot of you guys want to play this completely on battery and that's awesome however if you're playing triple a games like eldon ring or guardians of the galaxy or anything like that and you're playing it even on low settings at 40 frames per second the battery not going to last more than two hours now what do you want to do if you're playing at home and your battery is already low but you still want to be able to leave the house later right you want to be able to charge it while you're playing so you can use something like a 30 watt charger the apple one works great this is from an ipad or a macbook air m1 uh do not use these these little tiny five watt ones laying around the house you're gonna completely drain the battery while playing it may take longer but it will happen i believe the one that comes with the steam deck let's see this is the one that comes with the steam deck and you get an idea anything you buy that's smaller than this probably won't work well uh but as an example you're looking at a 20 watt charger so the steam dock comes with a 20 watt charger i haven't done any research yet to find out exactly what it charges at but i'm assuming it charges at least 20 but can accept probably closer to 45 similar to a macbook air or other products so the one that i recommend is made by aki it's this guy right here it is very cool because it has two separate chargers it's got the iq quick charge um and it's absolutely fantastic it's very small same size as this but i can charge two devices at once i can charge my macbook or or you know another laptop or ipad at the same time as plugging in a normal five watt charger in this bottom slot to go into my phone that's it thanks for watching the video tell us in the comments what your tips and tricks are for the first things people should do when they get their steam deck as usual if you have any questions i'll meet you in the comments [Music] you
