It also had the first Iron Man/Cap fight. It’s nice to know that the more things change the more they stay the same.
I still love the shot of Thor using Mjolnir to punch Hulk
This is one of my favorite scenes of the Avengers. It truly shows the dynamics of worlds colliding - you have the entire SHIELD (and previously the US army) shitting themselves that Hulk might turn, SHIELD created that special room and for the whole movie, you have this aura of uncertainty surrounding Banner.
And then comes Thor, for whom fighting with Hulk is just a challenging sparring session. I love it.
I still love this fight (and the entire movie) so much. It's so very comic-bookish, much more than the current movies, but that's all I asked of an Avengers film back then, and to a degree, that's still all I ask for these days.
Also I love just how damn FAST Hulk is. He is pretty much matched by Thor in terms of raw strength here, but he's so much quicker that nothing on the Helicarrier at this point can really stop him. The way he just grabs Mjollnir and the pilot immediately is scary, think of how quick his reflexes must be to do that. He really is an animal here.
The interaction between them during the fight in Ragnarok was a lot better.
This fight in the Avengers is beginning to look dated. The concept is good, but the way they choreographed and shot the fight really made it noticeable that it was a CGI character.
I think my favorite part about this fight is that I was completely unaware it was going to happen. They managed to keep it almost entirely out of the promotional trailers and stuff, so it was a genuine surprise when they started fighting.
What if thor placed mjolnir on top of hulk ? What then ?
Best part is when Hulk tries to pick up the hammer without a doubt!
Edit: and when he grabs the pilot!
I keep having 1 question about this entire scene. At the end of the Avengers, we know that Banner has control of the Hulk when he says "I'm always angry". In this particular scene, one of two things happened: 1) Banner purposefully let the Hulk out or 2) this is one time that Banner lost control of the Hulk and he came out. I'm leaning towards 2). What do you think?
