This Steve was GODLIKE at Riptide

what is up everybody today we are going to be analyzing one of the most impressive bracket runs from riptide and that is going to be yani and his steve i'm going to be watching a couple sets first off with his biggest upset which was definitely versus the buzz so let's just get into it immediately subscribe to the channel let me know who you also want me to do from riptide and other events and blah blah but let's go so this matchup i feel like is slightly it's like even or a slight minimum it's really annoying but i feel like honestly the buzz's minimum style is correct for this oh yanny actually missed his fastfall that could have been a much bigger combo like here when he gets this grab like this was fast fall jab up till like that would have been a ton of more percent not over committing which is correct for de buzz and yanni just you know you got to sometimes use down air a lot at the beginning so that people respect you so that when you stop using down air it still works also i know yani yanni's one of the only steve's i feel like that makes long horizontal walls it's like he has these two at the bottom and then builds up because most people want to hit the bottom and then run through it so it takes a little longer if you do that granted the buzz could have still like down tilted or something but wow that hit that was so low and also way at the end of the upbeat i can sit by that yeah johnny was also doing a really good job of stalling in general this tournament is he dead oh my god minimum died 93 charged up smash is ridiculous but just fast fall air dodge it right so like honestly nothing like terribly out of the ordinary so far for yoni that was a really good oh he thought he had an iron i think um but overall that was really good like this this sequence was really good and then the punish there was super strong i don't know if you can make tether characters not grab the legend again really strong with these sword fair sword fair is like so important like sword fear and sword bear out of shield are so important in general always going for the gamer setup dude that's just so good like i actually don't know what to do against this like as pikachu i guess i would drop off in like quick attack or something but like most characters literally don't have an option because like look like i just want to kind of like analyze this and you can go watch gamer's video about it i'll put it in the card up above right now but like so if you neutral get up you break this block the iron or the the anvil falls and it either hits you or like i think it's character dependent it either hits you or you get grabbed and then grab released onto this tnt because it's a like guaranteed ground release for some reason uh if you roll you roll into the tnt like plate and then blow up if you jump you break the block and the t and the anvil hits you and if you ledge hop steve is just waiting there so i don't exactly know what you're supposed to do you also need a really really good leg hopper like multiple jumps do you drop off double jump up no cause he would break the block and then get hit by the anvil so it's really hard like that's just that's a broken setup like it's actually so dumb also yoni has no resources because of the tnt and iron but look he got so much off of that gold like one grab because he used the gold because he also wants to mine faster like the buzz committed once and takes 73 and advantage like that's crazy steve is insane like the ability for this character to just deal out just dish out damage is like not oh to the ledge trap there's no way it's a three stock yani three stock how many people can say they've three stocks to buzz that has to be like less than five people it goes olimar back to fd i really don't like people taking steve to fd uh because steve mines with shovel mines with a different um tool so you're not like breaking your pickaxe or breaking your axe by mining here which i think is really really important also i don't know how this matchup would be in general uh yani messed up his ladder there his um spawn tower is what it's called when you like the single blocks but also i think it might have been too low percent since he didn't get the a couple of up tilts at the beginning so maybe that was correct and then he just messed up the forwarder and he's just thrown out options to make the buzz scared and that's a good idea like the more you scare your opponent the probably overall worse options they're gonna do yani does not care about these pikmin he's just letting them stay on which to me that's a bad idea uh imo just for the record but because like i feel like uh olmar doesn't have good options to deal with oh he tried to cheese him uh he doesn't have good options to deal with minecart and i feel like that's kind of a big deal wait that covered are you dead from that should have been should have been dead in two different ways from that that's actually crazy so you do the fair up smash this two block no impact land up smash to bait this air dodge from the buzz and then the block breaks so you can act and then you get mine cart and then that could have been like if he was he was a little too close to the buzz to get that back here would have probably killed or if he did upsmash there it also would have killed damage your throws all do damage oh yeah oops a little too awesome the thing about steve is like a lot of his kills besides like back air are pretty committal so if you're not uh like if you're just trying to fish for kills you'll die pretty like pretty obviously oh nice grab that's up throw and yeah this is the advantage of having like a tether grab but especially steve's tether grab because it goes higher than most heather grabs uh is if someone like does an air like a drifting back aerial or hits your shield and drifts back which is generally pretty good and you don't want to drift forward because of up smash the grab hits and also like even if they have a even if they're slower farther than oliver it'll still um scoop them in the air i don't know if if he changes which uh costume he is based on the stage you know so stephen's getting any iron um i mean things are different yeah but like you still get iron on ft he just wasn't mining that much spawn tower that combo's so good but he missed the forward air at the end this is also ridiculous i don't know why this works like i don't know why this tnt doesn't hit steve that's ridiculous i really don't understand why that's a thing it's so dumb it's actually so stupid the buzz gets hit which makes sense and they just do it over and over again like it's ridiculous oh that's gonna be so much damage because that was a full up smash and the tnt that did 45. the buzz super should have died i'm kind of surprised he didn't and then now we have down smash no no down smash air dodge there it is but now yanni doesn't have a tool yeah he's gonna get hit nice i'll smash that shield see that one works but like again if it doesn't work it can be like oh you have nothing also he's he's out of mats like almost entirely from second thought because he went for two teams three tnts like that's one of the reasons i don't use tnt in general when i played steve uh because like i like having the ability to use my blocks at all but also it's it does a ton of damage so i don't blame people for doing it you know tnt is good it's just a crazy amount of resources that you have to use and that's hard to punish oh oh damn's gonna make it back whoa he's not gonna make it back that's kind of surprising and now he has gold a lot of damage he has iron he has rather diamond stacked up and look at all that iron cause like the worst thing about the buzz dying here wasn't even the fact that well it's also it's bad that he died obviously but that's clearly the worst thing but like the extra worst thing was the fact that look how much time this took and yoni is just mining like look how much he gets to mine which is really hard oh the buzz says you cannot flank me that's actually really funny he's getting bodied but at the same time it's like cool you have four iron you have diamond go minecart broke through all of those like pikmin g's like yanni's really running out of resources so he needs to like kind of mine a little bit yeah [Music] are you dead holy that kill damn with the pop off too look at this pop off 76 jesus let's go or yes that's definitely a yes for sure 100 he said yes diamond bear was ridiculous 76 dude so he went battlefield i don't disagree with that but also rosa like plays the mid-range and if um oh minecart destroys luma oh god oh geez i don't know how tabaz is ever gonna keep luma alive and then punishes the air dodge luma's dead and like at this point i would just yeah like you can fight luma just fine so i would just mine if i was uh if like against no luma rosa like i'm just mining i didn't see this set like i know yanny won but i didn't see the set live because i thought bts smash was gonna have winners and bts smash three was gonna have losers so yeah like what do you do about that besides hope again as pika i might go to the other side but then i just get down smashed you wait on ledge yeah but then he's able to just like dash up and down smash you and it's terrifying also i love that setup like this so you do mine cart here and then like jump out under the block i don't know if you jump or if it just like automatically like gets you out of it so steve is just like actionable like he shields here so then you grab that luma got hit too this is going to be a ton of damage and end up killing luma because luma spawned right there and then going for another tnt thing and just you know getting rid of a lot of resources which again i don't necessarily agree with but also he's up in entire stocks and again like i don't know how rosa deals with this she's a bit too big and clunky to deal with uh minecart like this jeez yani's been like dominating the game season one it was three stock two stock and now is it looking like it's gonna at least be a two stock nyani is freaking out he's like oh my god if i hit the spare i win and then like freaked out but also he's up an entire stock this would be impressive to throw especially with diamond like he's playing a lot more solid here that would have killed that actually would have killed if it hit i'm pretty sure he's kind of throwing he has no down air he needs iron really bad and now he has one two he's good for now there's the one he only has one left was almost got it the top plot's really good diamond bear oh god he didn't kill luma what a fool damn he's almost impressively throwing but hey three iron 93 is like kind of a lot like that's like a down air a mine cart yeah like a forward smash he's just he knows he's like i'm out of materials i need blocks but also the buzz is doing a really good job right now coming back yanni needs to find clutch like i feel like once he does that he'll be like a very very crazy threat a top level threat like he starts winning and then like freaks out because he's not used to being in these positions against top players because this is his first like offline event also what the you mean waiting to pop off of course this downer's gonna kill how would this downer not kill that move is ridiculous that's the strongest move in the goddamn universe like once that hit like you pop off like you're done like i guess you have to jump off you have to make sure you jump yani played really well that said like overall very strong super good super well played we played a tada i'll do this it's before the bracket so you know you know who wins but uh it's a tada versus yani attada of course uh the best nest in chicago in the area he's super good he won one of my sub tournaments or i guess got second because he lost to benny in the jets so anyway this matchup is like def i feel i feel like pretty definitively in steve's favor um you can kind of slow down the match with uh blocks and then your combos are huge you can edge guard the hell out of uh ness by just making blocks but also that was a really good way to deal with this wall that was so fast by a tada holy crap look at that jesus that was so good i hate ness one move that i'm kind of surprised that i don't see yanny use a lot is down smash i feel like it has a lot of utility in terms of tech chasing and also two framing uh but i guess he did he opts more so to like do setups after like for after they grab the ledge as opposed to like trying to and if you're in that little in that little cubby so he gets the sub smash so he does this little z thing and then he stands right here under this so that people can't come directly on top of him they have to come here uh which if they break some of the wall he can then jump this way or you know deal with them being here granted he guesses wrong because he i don't know what he tries to do he tries to like grab but uh a tada runs behind him has gold tools now that's a lot of damage the roll away got caught by the back here oh my god that was crazy and yeah itada just doing that because uh well one like mining on the tnt is pretty good for yoni but also he's just waiting because a tad is using magnet to try to absorb the tnt because it definitely will yeah okay i had to play that super well overall like he was very good at dealing with the blocks uh he wasn't getting overwhelmed but i feel like johnny could have been a little bit better with edge guarding and again the small battlefield pick even though you end up mining with pickaxe uh you get the ability to do the up tilt uh on the like the up tilt tnt stuff which is really really good really fast dealing with these blocks this is a tad oh my god he must have a lot of sleeve experience oh tried to get the block oh what a four smash on the jump what how'd that not hit huh how'd that miss that's crazy it already has gold again which is like so good yeah that's a ton of shield damage really good set up by a tata to get like pressure yanny swinging up smash and that back here oh so why don't i just break the oh the the mix up i got mixed yeah like a tada has not cared about these blocks at all and i feel like that's a pretty paramount like that's a very important thing in the matchup nice uh double jumping fire to hit the pivot grab i know i'm talking more about a tada but just like yani hasn't had a lot of time to do a lot of stuff honestly like when he is it's good but yeah and yami's like never been on time to do down tilts and if he has like a tad has been doing like ledge stalls so it's been really hard for him to do like kind of anything offensively overnight we get the tnt what do you do oh that was so good actually no why didn't you just do another down told he had time oh that's kind of tragic that's a shitty way to lose yani doing really small walls because the walls aren't actually doing anything that's good though he got some gold that's that's some good that's some good mining grab down throw fared up tilts oh that's so much damage 65. and then yeah hits that tries to get back here still trying to get back here but like like this is honestly the part that's actually hard for ness is um if if steve just plays like a sword character i don't know what like just like with punishing stuff like it's a slow sword character sure but like you still got a ton of damage and you have great out of shield options and stuff like if ness ever does like a rising air you just get hit he's gonna die before getting to use diamond i know he's not okay 43 69 78 yeah dude or anvil's ridiculous i think it wasn't it wasn't even close like it's super killed like it wasn't even like oh it almost it don't like you know if they died better well if they had died better they might have lift but like it's ridiculous so it goes to battlefield i'm not sure if i agree with this counterpick overall oh what a that was such a good fair spike by jani to like he could have continued this combo he just didn't well he could have done if he passed overloaded later he could have got like uh up smash or like yeah jab fair or something a tad is mixing up yani a lot on which side he's gonna land on because you don't have like a multi-side thing for steve as an out of shield option so you need to like sword fair or sword bear like you need to do one of them uh and yani's been having trouble like actually hitting the correct one that was so unfortunate this interaction was kind of silly it's like breaks the block trades with that and because he traded with the pga thunder uh it was like he was laggier so can i get the grab i like these high up bees whole the crafting table saved him but only got 33 from the diamonds that's not great but like felt like he had to do it because of uh he didn't have a pickaxe also going up into a block immediately breaks it so if you have any if you still have momentum afterwards you just continue to go up oh nice spare spike that was super good look how much damage so the reason this works is because the up smash hits ness out of er let me just re-watch it so it's a better clip tnt oh right so the reason this works uh sorry that it switches 10 seconds go back but the reason this works is like even though ness can absorb the tnt the up smash hits nests first there and then the tnt blows up i'm going for another setup because why not dash up down tilt yeah and that's great that's so good in the match up the anvil to make nests hit it hit it with the p gates under and then it like halves the distance because that's how that works for ness just to get a grab doesn't the tad is still playing overall very well but yeah tries to get another fair spike he's destroying him right now oh he doesn't go for a he goes for a jump read back here but still gets the upsell back here afterwards that one didn't work oh you hit like old magnet for some reason like that's just that's just a checkmate like runoff down air is so good versus like so many characters oh i really don't like him going into diamond there and yeah he like stopped using blocks entirely and it's just kind of playing a normal game like again i feel like this style is better against ness because you're constantly like waiting and playing like the mid-range neutral game which is generally what nest struggles with and like has to pick a fire on platforms and stuff like that he's getting so many uphill bears dude heals 30 there that's a good deal but he's not he's still down by so much gets it for 20 again i love those cancels they're kind of cheeky and then atta actually uh yanny was dead if it tata didn't mess up you got like the double the double jump forward with the magnet and the downer is this hit like this this is double jump down air like forward and then like one two hit down here but it's kind of unfortunate tada messed up a couple of those throughout the set although the other ones were in the game c1 anyway so like at this point like ness is so close to dying from so many things it's like overall like johnny's playing very well he's he's definitely mixing up sword like playing like a sword character versus playing like steve oh which is just good overall yeah bad diax is trying to run away exactly like he's got a shield which is obnoxious but either way really good by any overall like i think yoni played very well uh yeah i think he even played well versus maester i don't know where that set is here but like i think he played well versus meister i think he played well versus goblin i think that was really good but just you know just not good enough like this last this last game was crazy i don't want to go over the full thing but just like he he did the thing that he did against larry where he freaked out so it was almost a reverse three oh first off that was crazy like he was up by a lot this game i'm pretty sure i could be wrong but i'm pretty sure he was up by a lot does he wiggle for a weird diamond in that stock yeah he does no just stop smash just wait oh that sucks my goblin and you know like he doesn't have the materials here to go for like a tnt trap so he just he doesn't know what to do granted the answer is just down tilt like just down tilt the ledge like what is rory gonna do if you try to down to the ledge like he goes for like the big plays and like oh my god i'm gonna end it but like you can't do that uh you have to play solid and just do the solid things that are kind of just good like you can't freak out and i know that but like you have to chill i'm like that sucks how many frames off was that you know like that's like maybe a couple frames off like three or four like in this situation like yeah just down tilt or down smash is what what you do and even if you're wrong it's fine and you have rolled it's got to hurt the goblin played really well to said overall but like that sucks i don't know he kept rolling through instead of rolling away i guess he was scared of like dash upside me or something but overall really good stuff by annie i mean nine that your first major is crazy like that's insane like never gone to a major report that's super super good beating debuzze who's one of the hardest people in the world to beat in general so super good stuff for him
