so remember when i said this one nautilus or royal oak well hot take neither the royal oak is a bit too industrial for me well in today's video i'm showing you the ap royal oak 150 450 st and share with you my three reasons as to why this one is a special kind of royal oak so let's get started [Music] but first let's pay some bills and thank today's sponsor chronix one of the biggest online watch retailers here in europe with over seven thousand watches in stock readily available from watchmakers like wallex patek philippe omega or audemars piguet liked the watch from this video today so in case you are looking for your next watch make sure to check out cronics.com which i will link for you in the description box down below right let's get to point number one that makes this one extra special which is something that hits on a topic that has been discussed quite a lot lately the situation with watches and how they are sized their marketing messages towards men and women and how it affects us all the consumer so the regular royal oak reference number 15500 measures 41 millimeter in diameter but more importantly it doesn't wear like your regular 41 millimeter watch to blame for here is the lag to lug so see with your average 41 millimeter watch like the rolex submariner for example you get a lock of about 47 millimeter because how a watch fits you often isn't down to the case diameter but the length of one lock end to the other in relation to the width of your wrist and so myself being an official representative of the ibwc have to pass my judgment here and say that with a luck to luck of 51 millimeter the regular royal oak is definitely a watch that hangs over most wrists with a circumference of 160 to 180 millimeters so i can't give my stamp of approval for smaller wrists here but the ap royal oak 150 450 st is right on cue here with a diameter of a 37 millimeter and electroluck of about millimeter it wears so much better for average or smaller sized wrists in my opinion and you know what's even better you don't even have to make any compromises on things like the movement or losing a complication due to the downsizing you still get an automatic caliber and you still get the date at three o'clock and what's even more better is that even a word there's also a 34 millimeter version available the 77 350 st with the white silvery dial and though ap has put the 37 34 and 33 millimeter into the women's section on their website i am happy that they haven't changed the distinct look but simply just you know shrunk the watch and that's it except for the added ice out versions and some smaller quartz models that are available as well so yeah i think this is exactly what's needed more size options of the same watch so the majority of people can pick a size that suits them best i'm not sure if that approach would work with all watches is some of them only i would say really do work or are the way they are because of their size like i don't know take a rolex sea dweller for example it's the technology and therefore its size that makes this one the way it is so i don't think there is a big market out there for i don't know 34 millimeter sized sea dwellers in my opinion but yes the options and sizes available is what makes this one extremely attractive for all those who want to make sure that their watches fit and wear comfortably no matter how big or small their wrists are with a 37 millimeter diameter and a lux like a 47 millimeter it really sits in that very sweet spot that works for so many people and i would even say it works better than the classic 41 millimeter heavy weight with a lucta log of over 50 millimeter right let's move on to point number two the finishing i mean at this point i do have to address the elephant in the room the price this one here retails for twenty one thousand seven hundred dollars for a full steel watch i mean that is with peace and love to ap really a lot but that being said ap really pulled it off by making you feel that the price is totally justified when you get to hold this watch especially when you keep in mind that this smaller version goes for 10 000 less compared to the 41 millimeter versions on the market so let me show you exactly why this one really knocks it out of the park i mean the facets on the case alone are stunning the bezel itself has three different finishes with the soft brushed finishing on the top the super sharp and polished steep edges and then back to the small part down below that is brushed again as someone who loves symmetry i'm very happy that the eight screw nuts that look like simple screws but are actually hiding the real screws are all perfectly aligned and the same level of attention continues onto the bracelet which is very beautifully finished too even the fine links that sit in the middle are polished on both sides after that a very handy butterfly clasp that opens and closes very smoothly with the ap engraving on the back another great detail is the grand tapestry motif that is so distinctive for the royal oakline and what's also really cool is that ap actually published a video showing you how they make those styles which i will link for you down in the description box below which you should definitely check out after watching this video further on the dial you have your markers carefully applied by hand as well as the ap emblem at 12 that is made from white gold like the rest on the dial the date sits at three o'clock in a rather small window that takes up exactly four squares of the tapestry so in short with these smaller 37 millimeter version you get the exact same level of high-end finishing as the 41 millimeter version only that it's well smaller and better suited for the average wrist size so for my point number three i want to touch on the one compromise one just have to make with this watch it isn't actually related to its size but rather something for all the royal oaks out there and it's also something many out there are curious to know is this one just as wearable as any other sports you watch well the short answer to that would be yes but no and here's why let's start with fact number one this one really isn't suited for swimming with water resistance of 50 meters this one isn't watch i would take swimming with me fact number two the movement itself is rather delicate but nicely finished i mean that first and foremost is a huge pro considering that you are able to see it through the exhibition case back and it's really a very beautiful movement too most components are hand finished and the highlight here is definitely the 22 carat rose gold rotor that carries the odometer piggy coat of arms and a little fun fact here with its founding in 1875 ap still is one of the oldest family-led watchmakers in the business but yeah beauty often comes with a price and so this beautifully finished movement is a bit more delicate as well as much more expensive at servicing compared to popular movements like the 3135 caliber from rolex for example so even though i wouldn't necessarily wear my oyster perpetual while shooting i definitely would never wear this ap lastly i can't shake the very subjective feeling that this ap is a bit too fancy to wear on a daily basis with all these finely brushed and polished edges and sides i feel that it will quickly lose its sharp look when worn daily especially by someone like me i mean i did bump my watch again in my last video so i feel like the bezel on this would quickly start to look like a circle instead of an octagon and so that concludes my review of the odometer piggy royal oak in 37 millimeter i still think that the royal oak in general looks a bit too industrial for my liking though i have to admit that the smaller versions help to make it look less heavy and just more graceful in general what also helps is the gray dial as to me this monochrome looks makes it much more sophisticated and less i don't know like arrogantly edgy to me anyways that's my take on it but what's yours what do you think about the royal oak line and would you consider as a guy going for the smaller size even though it is labeled as a woman's watch as always let me know in the comments down below and that's it for today again thank you to cronix for sponsoring this video and thank you for watching if you have enjoyed this make sure to give it a thumbs up and i will see you in my next one bye
