This Liberal Went to a Trump Rally

I'm a liberal and I went to a trump rally to see if there was Common Ground going in I was expecting aggression but I actually experienced a lot of kindness do you want to be friends of course I loved everybody sure I'm gonna get a hug yeah gonna be friends sure how do you feel about being named Brandon all of a sudden I became really popular I don't think America's that delighted reality is I would say the majority of average American we probably disagree on maybe four or five topics [Music] Sam says as a liberal he started going to Trump rallies as a school experiment to see if he could make any friends now he says it resulted in discovering people are not all bad Sam thanks for being here thank you for inviting me well I think it's a a little skewed because I think you're uncommonly friendly and approachable so I would say anything about you no well really it's a nice guy so uh what'd you find out when you got there yeah I mean we did the first experiment actually at UCLA um uh Jubilee which is a company like really focuses empathy and the show is called 100 new friends and so trying to make like 100 new friends in these different environments but I felt like going to UCLA was doing it on easy mode and like what is the most hostile environment I could think of um and for me as like a liberal life saying okay that has to be a trump rally right I'm like seeing all this uh stuff online about how like people like throw in stuff and putting things on fire or stuff like that and almost instantly upon arriving that was not the case everyone we talked to extend us a ton of kindness it would start with do you want to be friends like just kind of based on human connection um and then I would say that I was liberal and they would be like why are you here um but after that it was like you know just connecting on why they were here what they believed um and a lot of it came down just like wanting to feel safe but even more than that it actually just came down to wanting to feel part of a community so many people were there were just like I'm trying to have a good time here and these are people that accept me like like Atomic unit of community is dissolving in America right now and I feel like Party politics is where some people are finding that yeah which is kind of scary because you don't know who's in there now Ryan you're Rick's chief of staff at Lincoln project right I am you believe this is a fight to literally save democracy I do I really do you know Dr Phil I grew up in the Bible Belt I was raised in Evangelical and I left it as an adult because I found so much judgment there and I think that the things that we are talking about here today are really important I mean America's lost some compassion we've gotten to where we pick teams and we have forgotten that it is what unites us not what divides us that makes us a country I mean people have different World Views people have different life experiences and we have to accept that we have to accept that we are not the same as every single person around us we have different we have different life experiences and so well thank God for that thank God for that that's what makes us so interesting I don't want everybody in my image I want to meet people that are different and have different experiences and stuff right do you have a story or a question for me click the link in the description and tell me what in the world is going on
