THIS LATE MEDIEVAL BATTLE IS INTENSE - Battle of Pavia - 1212AD Medieval Total War

all right night civil Paula what is up guys hope you're doing well and welcome back to the battlefield today we have a historical Recreation a late period Battle this is the Battle of Pavia so this battle uh takes place during the Italian war of 1521 the anniversary of this battle is actually a little more than a month away it's February the 24th of February 15 25. so this is a very interesting battle it's kind of like the Pike and shot era almost or around there you know it's kind of like early you got a lot of gunpowder you got a lot of late period units it is very fascinating also historically speaking this is a fight between the kingdom of France and the hasberg Empire Charles V of the Holy Roman Empire so you're gonna see a little bit of factions from a lot of different places uh you know France had some territory in Italy I believe they controlled so they've got some Italian allies so really quick let's look at the French side so we have the Swiss here uh fighting for the French I don't know if the Swiss were actually here but you know they're like they're like kind of French you know they're they're they're pre they're French frenchish uh and then we've got the French of course the French uh Kingdom and then next to them we have Venice which I don't think historically Venice specifically fought for the French in this time I believe again there's a lot of states in in Italy at the time I think it was one of the states like a northern Italian uh faction fighting uh with the French anyways you guys might have to correct me on that or or uh not correct me but add more detail to I'm sure some of you history nerds know more than I do of course now over on the other side we get a little taste of everything of the Habsburg Empire uh so we have Milan here another Italian faction so they're going to be present on the battlefield and then over in the center of course uh wait that's more Milan sorry this is the center over at the center we have uh Castile which again was under uh Charles V's rule there of the Habsburg Empire and then finally over here we have the Holy Roman Empire which was of course Very holy very Roman and very much an Empire okay I don't want to hear it from you nerds over there actually it was neither holy Empire it wasn't an Empire and it wasn't Roman okay it was deal with it I'm sorry I'm just kidding I'm just it doesn't matter uh anyway I I think I just like to say that because you know people are like no it wasn't holy it's like well it looks pretty holy and they're Christian to me they look holy to me anyways uh let's jump into this battle we'll do normal speed and you can you can stop here me go on and on about that joke uh so yeah let's see how this is gonna play out this is going to be pretty interesting to see how uh you know this is not your by the way this is the mod 1212 A.D uh so it's a medieval mod for Total War Attila in case you didn't know uh there are going to be a lot of late period units so usually battles in 1212 A.D I mean we've seen a lot of battles in the late period but I feel like this one's just a little bit different of course it's historical and did I say who won this battle I don't know I don't really there's so much stuff I covered in the intro I don't remember the French lose this battle and Francis France is the first of France Francis of France he actually gets captured in this battle and that is why it's such a uh pivotal pivotal pit it's a very important battle okay I can't talk today guys I I'm all over the place you know it's been a while since we've done total Wars so you know it's uh I'm shaking some rust off uh but yeah so far nothing yet in this fight the two armies are sizing up though right now as we speak and this is going to be kind of interesting here you got this patch of trees here we do have some hidden units uh from Castile it looks like they're a Javi unit they've got these big like almost like ballista sized arrows darts whatever you want to call them uh he's got two units of skirmishers it'll be kind of interesting to see how he plays them look at the butterflies you see the butterflies amazing so I'm curious to see if they're gonna spring out and try to throw a couple volleys at the enemy cab if they decide to engage but for now they're just kind of hanging back and looking for an opportunity and this is where things are going to get very interesting you can see that the French side has moved up some artillery they're getting it in position and the the uh passburg Empire the Holy Roman Empire have moved up a mortar look at these things absolute death and destruction is gonna come from this thing now they've yet to fire it let's see if they're gonna fire here now they definitely they definitely probably want to fire soon now since he has a mortar you would think that they would I don't know a mortar is a much more like it's not as direct right it fires kind of in an arch where a uh the Cannons over here is very direct there we go and they are firing and they are of course going after the Cav which they actually got some kills here on this cab unit and they hit the uh supporting unit of the Cav uh these uh these um almost looked like how bird meant it uh dismounted Knights almost uh but they look awesome but they do take some casualties there so um right away this artillery is being a problem now over on this side all artillery is reporting for Duty here the Holy Roman Empire has some Cannons of their own and they're gonna go ahead and fire as well and try to do some damage uh from afar now this is a question of who can out damage shoe because well hold that thought because what I was gonna say is that if you can put more pressure on the enemy it forces them to close in on you look at all the rocks being thrown right now okay it's not rocks but oh oh man oh man causing some Mass casualties there absolute destruction now we've got the general look at him he's he was kind of itching for a charge there Charles V himself actually I don't know Charles the fifth is he it's here in the battle I think so Empire of Charles V very cool now I don't think he was there actually um but yeah I actually don't know much about this specific historic event I don't know if you couldn't tell uh but it nonetheless very interesting that's why I love Total War that's why I love the mods of Total War here comes more mortar fire look at this oh just missing imagine being some of these uh his guard here and just seeing a big old rock big old cannonball laying right in front of you oh man that is epic oh look at this guy oh it's not been a good day for these two God I hate Mondays you know uh but yeah still no commit commitment yet we do have uh kind of the center of this Army moving forward which is France I believe yeah the French are moving forward and the Swiss are hanging back it does look like Milan I'm sorry Venice is moving forward as we speak now so kid French French oh my God can the French change history today can they pull off a victory and uh try to redeem themselves historically speaking we'll find out but so far it looks like uh speaking of the Swiss they've got some Swiss units here moving forward along with some long Spears coming like a pavi shield spear unit still no engagement yet lots of archers moving up lots of artillery fire but nothing yet and I really love the fact that he's just chilling in the woods here keeping these units hidden now you can imagine that their opponent who's facing against this probably knows there's something in there waiting for him but here we go our first infantry Clash those Swiss are moving in Albert V Halbert 15 25. foreign there we go more infantry pushing in the French are the first charge in and get this battle under way and so far it's uh it's been tough to tell really who's winning oh here comes a cab charge from oh my God because steel makes a surgical charge right there fantastic charge and we're gonna get a counter charge from the French and here comes some artillery which wow it caused some trouble here comes more cab coming in that's more of the French Cav trying to protect their infantry that was a fantastic charge uh bike is still and now they're gonna follow up with some Infantry oh yes yes gotta charge in and try to do some damage to this cab unit the French might be in trouble in history just might be replaying itself in this battle but it's still young it's still or still early uh the night is young I guess you could say the day is Young since it's date okay anyways it's early in the battle uh and it's still anyone's uh anyone's battle at this point built up to say who's gonna win this one the Swiss continued to push or this is the French but the Swiss units continue to push the artillery really focusing down this position you can see where they're firing oh they're going after the reserves look at this they're going after the Swiss troops here dismounted soldiers got those the pipe units moving forward look at this look at all the units converging over here but not a huge commitment over on this side most of the commitment is in the center all right now we got some Cav play going on here the French French need to push and get behind some of this infantry because if this has been kind of a rust a rough start for the French I think they can recover but uh so far we've seen some excellent plays by Castile here comes more artillery look at this getting some of the Cav right there that was dangerous he could easily have gotten some Friendly Fire he might want to change targets let's zoom out here get get a bird's eye view even better we can get a tactical view look at this huge battle line this kind of looks promising over here over here though they look light on troops the French side the French of course being represented by the red squares and the blue and yellow being represented representing Charles V's Empire uh back over this way this looks promising for the French Allegiance they're gonna go in with some infantry try to destroy the cab here and it looks like it they're they're doing a great job they're doing a great job now the general over here is getting double teamed you got to be careful here but it's tough and Attila because in Attila if you pull Cav out of a fight they take Mass losses oh my gosh this is a shiny day look at the shine on these uniforms and the armor so we'll see what happens here with this General maybe the players thinking hey it's best to just keep them in but they're gonna lose a lot of troops and this General is going to need some major backup soon back over this way we are starting to see some units uh break against uh against Milan so they've got they're they're breaking through this line and it doesn't look like Venice I mean it just depends Venice needs to win this cab battle if they can win that they can save the battle over here but so far it looks like Milan's got this under control over this way oh here we go more cab charges from Castile as the French General tries to maintain the back lines of his army and protect the archers of his army but guys it is not looking good for false false it's not looking good it's not looking good uh but we'll see what happens here this still the battle is uh only I'd say like halfway through there's a lot of fighting in this little patch of trees which is pretty cool honestly that's where I would want to be fighting you got the shade the trees kind of protect you a little bit from projectile fire just a little bit but now it looks like they're coming from the woodwork of this Forest and Castile is taking on this infantry of Hal baders very cool now back over this way here's the big question who is gonna win this Cav engagement and by the looks of it the French side the French Allegiance looks like they're winning so it's tough to say who's gonna win this battle because so far the Infantry looks like it's in control of the Holy Roman Empire and the Cav looks like it's winning for the French now hold on here there is a lot of breaking going on who is this this is Castile a lot of breaking from Castile and this might be what France needs here and here comes another rally charge by the Holy Roman Empire nice charge both generals of Castile and I believe the Holy Roman Empire have charged into bolster the center [Music] but is it enough I don't know it might be wow what a charge by the generals and that two the two generals right before they charge they like looked at each other like are you ready for this born ready and they just like charged in and broke the French center with a beautiful beautiful charge with this deadly shock cap and they have the crossbows On The Run look at that they just saved their army wow both sides were kind of hanging on by a thread over on that front now way over on this far flank the French did win the Cav flank battle but and when I say French I mean the French Allegiance uh which in includes Venice here but I don't think they have enough here to win the day this infantry needs to make their way over here quick and you can see that Milan is trying to surround Venice here and break them up as quick as possible before reinforcements arrive foreign excellent battle here so far excellent battle more reinforcements from Milan and the whole or Castile making their way making their way over to this side and guys it looks like the Swiss are winning this battle it does appear that this is the French Allegiance Only Hope of winning this fight in my opinion the Swiss have to win they have to make the enemy look like swiss cheese you know what I did there see what it is anyways uh some pikemen moving into position that's the Holy Roman Empire uh there they go see how they're kind of they're making a new box almost they're making a defensive formation because the Swiss are they won on the flank with Cav they're kind of winning with infantry over here and you know the Swiss players probably like intense you know very intently looking at his side of the battle and then he takes a break and looks over and he's like oh dang it you have you ever done that in a game not even just Total War but a multiplayer game where you're winning your fight whatever game that may be and then you look at how your allies are doing and you're like ah dang it I'm gonna lose you know that's uh I'm not saying that the Swiss are gonna lose here but uh it's not gonna be easy it's not gonna be easy that's for sure I like this too look at this this is kind of sneaky we've got uh Milan's guns I think kiting the enemy opening fire and then retreating in repeat but Venice is just taking what he has left which is not not a small amount it's definitely a decent amount size of troops that are going to push forward and probably try to help out the Swiss here now this is going to be interesting let's see what happens with this Castile Cav looks like they're gonna be charging in look at this oh they could not get the Pikes down in time that was a glorious glorious charge right there that was fantastic very good stuff oh and they're breaking the general they're breaking the general of of uh the Swiss Switzerland they're called something else though I don't know how to pronounce it that was crazy guys and just like that the Swiss have they've had enough they've had enough lots and lots of breaking and wavering going on here as soon as you lose your general it can be disaster for your army and my goodness what a battle This was um and that was I think my favorite part I know it's not technically over see where this lands okay they're just going for this cab that's just stationary thankfully It's Gonna Miss but yeah I think my favorite part of this battle was when the two generals like locked eyes and they knew what they that meant and they both charged in and broke the French just like shattered them when the French had a good chance of kind of winning there if it wasn't for that beautiful cab charge um but now oh yeah they're gonna use their guns look at that they're gonna fire down at this at the Swiss um Pikeman and now we got some halberts moving into position look at their forming square look at these Pikes they're like ah just throw them wherever Point them in all directions and they're just gonna chill they're just gonna like all right you're gonna stand there and then we're just gonna shoot you we're just gonna sit here and shoot you more big fighting here it looks like um the Swiss kind of got a little bit of second win there you know they're like ah we're not done yeah all right we're done like ah this isn't all right it's over I love this mod though it's just so much detail I mean look at this flag there's so much detail I love this era too it's just the Medieval era all right so more and more forces continue to push it looks like they took care of Venice here when we weren't looking uh it doesn't appear that they really put up a big fight and now we're in the last 30 seconds of the battle and it is quite clear that history will repeat again and Charles V and his Empire will claim victory in this late period medieval battle look at that they're fighting they're doing their best we're trying there we go pirick Victory but a victory nonetheless so let's end the replay um and see matter uh but yeah 69 kills there 116 with that artillery 97 and then over here 91 57 and 107. artillery not really getting too many uh kills but a decent amount uh but thank you guys that's gonna be it for the Battle of Pavia uh this was a lot of fun and I really enjoyed this one and it's cool to get some late period medieval stuff in here uh but if you enjoyed the video don't forget to like
