yeah like at least like 95 percent people like have an internship or a full-time job so basically your master's fees is now zero would you say that yeah [Music] [Music] what's up everybody welcome to another vlog we are we as in sharat is with me sir say hi uh we are i'm in chicago for my work trip and i am right now in front of uic campus and charlotte is going to help us do the campus tour it will be short tour but hopefully it will help you to see the campus all right so sharat was explaining me this building behind me is the student center so it's basically all the common things this bookstore uh this dining hall and uh this food courts okay where people can we and we can go inside so we're gonna film all of that the building behind us that's the gym it's a recreational center we we don't have permission to go and shoot inside it but maybe you can give me some clips when you go inside so i'll show you the gym and swimming pool and all of that yeah do you go workout yeah [Music] also feels really weird because everybody's staring me with this giant camera wow and you have to pay or you it's all free uh it's free i think but we have to register and yeah register wow yeah so if you are bored come play a game of bowling nice hello is this fun area nice this is so cool to have a ball in hilly so cool the campus is this huge we're not gonna show everything this is like the east campus of uic uh so we are currently in student center uh you can see the point here this is a student center building which we recently told and this is called the pod uh it is surrounding the four lecture centers okay and yeah we're gonna go there yeah and these are all the different departments computer science and business departments that side and yeah uh electrical electronics all right so this is all engineering yeah all engineering okay so we are only going to go there this part the west campus we are not going to go with this is all medical stuff this is the bookstore right here if you want t-shirts and hoodies etc chick-fil-a is here this is where people come did you do you like chick-fil-a yeah yeah yeah okay and then there's a panda express as well so if you are a fan of those we can go let's go so this is the nice chilling area should have anything else yeah this dumpkin will open space to set and uh if you want like yeah do you how much time do you spend here once in a week at least like to do group studies okay so dunkin donuts there's an amazon something over there there's like a store where you can buy bread and milk and pork and everything the atm's right there sorry i can't focus on campus tour a lot because there are people who are coming and saying hi to me i am studying masters hi i get a little lost on like whether to vlog or to say hi to them ud is very famous this is the problem it's called inner circle there's subway and then some other restaurants right there people just eat there hang out over here chill okay this is just a lounging area again outside student center and people just come here and hang out so either lecture over there oh so these are these are the four lecture halls and did your lecture happen here yeah most of them lecture behind the building which you see is the student center and right all around me called quad and there are like four lecture halls so yeah you have a lecture hall and it's like what lecture happens over here is this yeah building yeah yeah okay you can't go inside all right we got the access so this is one of the lecture halls and charlotte's one of the classes happens over here so the professor is right there and students sit here did you like it it's pretty good yeah the infrastructure is here yeah yeah this is almost important most important part it's the center of the ui yeah engineering yeah engineering campus and that building which you see that's the village tower that's where my new office is on 40th floor it's also the tallest building of chicago so that building is the computer science building yeah yeah what happens in that well most of the professors have their offices there they conduct their office hours and even uh tas like uh i'm one of the ta and we they give us three for three to four of us pas they give an office there so that we can contact an office our students can come and ask out nice it's pretty good so you have your own office in that we can go check out the office no yeah uh yeah i think yeah yeah yeah we can but like not sure if they're lower he just found uh his roommate so he's coming here we are also doing a meet up right after this just met uh ashwin here he's roommate yeah tell me like how easy it is to find like our ata on campus job uh did you have one uh yeah i am a ta over here okay uh so if you don't know let's start with the fees uh what's the fee structure like how much is the fees total expense uh for uh i think first uh studies uh academic-wise it's around it'll come up to 51 000 uh like without any scholarship or any assistantship okay that's the i-20 amount yeah yeah yeah and that does not include state stay okay and if you have to guess a number for living cost so it's approximately around 600 the rent is around 600 per month like in this neighborhood and with the utilities might come up up to six fifty to seven hundred approximately with four groceries and i will come up to a thousand like you can live pretty much and in the area around it is it easy to find like apartments oh yeah it's quite easy to find apartments are like few student housings over there towards that side okay and they're like all these houses over here like students live over here so it's like pretty easy to find and is it safe yeah because chicago is known for you know florida this area is pretty safe for those of you who don't know chicago is kind of known for like crimes but not necessarily everywhere is the crime like there are some spots in the neighborhood and that's everywhere in the united states so that's why i asked them is it safe or not like the area around this university it's pretty safe like whatever we have felt till now like it's in downtown it's the west part of downtown okay and also we pretty much walk together like uh in the night at eight and nine as well like in the group until analysis you're not walking alone yeah uh it should be fine and after eleven usually you have this nightcap services like and it's three miles three three yeah you just need to book it with that yeah okay so obviously living in everything you said about thousand dollars it's a two year score so 24 000 for living expenses 51 for education that's roughly what's 75 20 yeah 75 000 if you did not have rita but these gentleman's over here they both were very lucky they got a ta is a pa or yeah yeah yeah teaching assistant job when did you guys come here uh we came in spring 21 spring 2021 and how long did it take for you guys to get the ta uh we got it in fall 21. so once i'm waiting for i must give one or two interviews and uh i didn't get it and then i tried for another interviews 40 years yeah for actually i was trying for a normal gi job early job okay and then i gave up pretty much one or two interviews then uh i landed one in the the third one was the one early job i landed which i did for like around two months did an array as well in that then after that in fall uh fortunately we got ta same for you yeah yeah even i was like trying for gh jobs but i couldn't land one in the first semester so i just applied for ta in the fall semester but luckily i got it and g h what is gh uh that's graduate early so it's uh graduate early so it doesn't cover fees yeah yeah basically on campus job like cafeteria or like housing or whatever yeah any job and what's an hourly rate oh it's 26. what for yeah yeah actually for a graduate early and assistant that is a lot of money so this is different from california obviously because a lot of csus and chico i think it will be 15 hourly so this is like that's why i was shocked like this at 26. so that's just the on-campus job what about the a job like how did you apply how did you get it so like uh before the start of the semester i think like two months before the start the department sends out a google form like asking the students to fill whether they're interested in a ta position so we need to like give our preferences for the courses which we might like to ta and like our gpa for the previous semester so based on that i think yeah and and also if we know some professors we have to approach them beforehand and tell them if you can recommend to the department that it can be your team and it also and that recommendation matters a lot it also depends on the previous ta reviews like how the students like like the tas that is if you want to get the ta so networking is the key network what i've been saying in my videos but that's not why i was talking about tata is super important because if you get a ta job basically you don't pay any fees is that right almost 80 percent 80 percent so we will just pay like 15 to 20 percent off 15 to 20 percent so obviously if you're a ta then you don't pay any i mean you pay about 20 20 or so roughly and and and you get like payment right like what what is it called uh stipend yeah typhon and they get yearly style phone yeah how much for 20 hours uh per week yeah okay and how much is that like is that 26 hours uh [Laughter] so you know basically you pay 15 to 20 of your fees but you also make two thousand dollars a month and your cost of living is about thousand dollars so you saving thousand dollars every month so basically your master's fees is now zero would you say that yeah uh yeah like first time uh we had to pay completely the fees yeah but like you recovered all that yeah yeah yeah so they so basically you did your masters for free i mean in a way kind in a way that's awesome so so okay here's here's the bigger question would you recommend students who are like you know in doubt like whether they will be able to pay off their loans and they are doubting whether they should come to united states what what's your thought yeah uh for i i would say for our field it's pretty much uh powerful is in computer science there's a lot of opportunities here and if you are good at networking uh to you reach out to people and uh if you pretty much cover uh most of it sometimes yeah you may you might be unlucky you might not get assistantship or something but if you land a good internship or a full-time i think you would be able to cover the fees in one or two years so i would say go for it like if you yeah the main key over here is like plan your course properly and like yeah apply for internships and full-time on time exactly what is the right time to apply so like if a student is coming in fall in august uh basically then like you should start applying for internships immediately yeah so everything is one year before they are like how you apply for your college applications like a new year before you have to be timing is very important here so for applying for the internships for next summer you should already be ready to apply uh start applying in august and give interviews so that is that usually summer internship will start in may june yeah so to start like to get there you have to apply like they are saying august september october like that's the prime minister that is the prime time like where you'll be giving interviews for the internship yeah and also manage your course load accordingly like don't take all the help yeah so that's the big technique these guys were telling me that uh you have like you have the flexibility to choose the coursework so knowing which course is harder and which one is normal you learn a lot and where you are so that you will come to know only by networking and talking to your senior seniors okay do you guys mind sharing your linkedin uh can i share them on this video sure so they can reach out to you yes sorry please don't spam them be nice to them but yeah so you reach out to them this is awesome thank you thank you guys for uh sharing your this and how was your internship how many how many people are you in the badge let me put this back again so uh we came in spring actually so around 35 people uh were there in our back but uh the fall uh batch has around 150 people likes 150 to 200 wow i don't think that out of 35 how many has internships summaries so the thing is like our batch like at least 50 to 60 percent of our people are like gradually waiting this summer this is the semester so they all have like full-time job full-time jobs or everybody has everybody that's the record of uic yeah yeah and they also came in a pretty much good time i guess this spring and now the market is booming like the students who came with you during the time like in spring 2021 did everyone have does everyone has like internships yeah like at least like 95 percent people like have an internship or a full-time job and is it uh big companies like nordstrom amazon yeah like yeah a lot of people got into amazon amazon's for full-time amazon for full-time few of them two or three for uh full-time uh internships as well from amazon but i would say as a whole fall batch also applying to the internships it became a little competitive and maybe at least a 50 60 percent of the fall batch also has internships already yeah yeah wow and like one more thing what i've observed is like people who didn't get internships like the fall batch people they're at least like trying to work on campus for the summer so they're like they can make some money in campus like either a graduate assistant yeah okay i think we are gonna head out for the meetup i have pretty much they said all the building looks uh very much same is that right yeah yeah and they are like different different buildings where classes happen so the main was student center there might be a chance where we can show you arc if not then if you can take like videos for this i can show they said like it's very modern building yeah yeah okay i guess we're gonna end the campus tour right here uh thank you sharath and thank you ashman for this whole video uh also reach out to them if you are planning to go to uic or even regardless you can reach out to them they are now going to make a lot of money in nordstrom and hopefully google facebook and they'll forget me but i get that's it for give a reference for sure that's it for this one until our next one [Music] you
