welcome back troglodytes to your daily dose of guitar information the trogly's guitar show we've got a fun unboxing day today so i used to buy a lot of stuff from ebay but i've pretty much almost converted all the way to reverb now because i there's just so many horror stories every guitar i buy off of ebay has something wrong with it whether that be a non-disclosed issue or just somebody who doesn't know enough about guitars in general to describe it properly i always just seem to have bad luck but one day i had an idea you know let's check out ebay let's see what they're doing and this is what happens when i look on ebay i find something i want like i was a kid in a candy shop reverb has so much high prices lately that's simply because the market is up on everything and it's savvy sellers and savvy buyers on reaver for the most part but not everybody on ebay knows everything about guitars so i was just impressed with a bunch of the pricing on there and i found this now this was actually for sale by one of those brokers we talked about that in this video where people in japan they'll go to shops that don't ship internationally they'll list their products and then if you actually buy it they'll ship it to you a lot of people get upset when they realized it was a broker because they're not usually the most honest and being upfront with you but that's what they're doing and a lot of times it ends with oh sorry this guitar is actually out of stock because they're not always up to date on their inventory but yeah this one came from japan i just wanted to show you this real quick i don't read japanese but this is a japanese newspaper pretty cool but anyways what did i get from the japanese broker on ebay it's one of my favorite models i had just missed one the week prior someone else had purchased it on reverb before i could close the deal but that was a steal like i think i didn't even get to click on it in time to buy it but then this thing showed up and i was like okay these things are getting hard to find now i need to secure this so what do we have here you guys remember this it's the rhino les paul custom now it looks to me like there might have been some replaced parts on this because i'm noticing right away the patina is a little bit different on the tailpiece but that's not that big of a deal this is the satin version so i've already reviewed this guitar and it's essentially a les paul custom access that has the access heel carve right here it's got the belly cut over here they're just really cool guitars and it's the first one to feature the apex head carve the rhino horn as i call it so ever since i made that video there's been a lot of people who felt the same way about these as i did and there's been other information like 25 of each stuff like that i don't know if anything ever official has been done but i will say this thing is in a little bit better shape than i was expecting like once i dust it off it should be good i mean that's just dust caked on there this must have been sitting at a shop for a long time and unfortunately there is a little bit of hanger rash on this example but and somebody installed a pickguard that's the only thing that makes me think okay maybe this one's not a keeper for me i want one that's all original that nobody installed the pick guard on because i think it looks better without it and that's coming from me a big proponent of only pick guards it's just those things shipped without them that's what's ingrained in my head that it should look like and you know it kind of made it special but before we continue our unboxing journey there is a sponsor of today's episode it's sponsored by ekster they actually sponsored a review and demo a year ago and i've been using this wallet ever since so i can honestly say i do use this product and i enjoy it so if you're not familiar with this brand of wallet essentially the coolest thing about these things is it has this flip out card thing here you just press this button all your cards come out it's perfect i love doing that it feels great but also has rfid blocking technology in here so people can use like card skimmers nowadays to steal your credit cards while they're in your pocket these are supposed to help protect against that and they also sell these tracker cards so if you're like hey where's my wallet honey you can just call it with your phone and then you'll know exactly where it is let's go ahead and quickly check out the one that they just sent me this is their senate style wallet it reminds me a lot of the metal aluminum ones that they have so if you're interested in checking out extra products you can go to their website there's a link in the description having a holiday sale now until the 26th where you can get up to 35 percent off their products thank you extra for sponsoring today's episode now let's get back to some unboxings but this one right here is i think something else i got off of ebay looks like got a free reusable tote bag another one man they just have a whole bunch of these what's with that as long as it gets here safely that's all i care about this was listed on ebay at an auction and then it was also listed on reverb i had made an offer on this on reverb before i saw the auction on ebay but strangely enough my offer was actually less than what the auction was currently bidding at but they accepted my offer the next morning and i i was confused by that maybe they're a fan of the show they wanted to see it go to me to get unboxed i don't know but inside here this is the paul i'm sorry i'm telling you the wrong story maybe that one still hasn't arrived yet i should look into that that seemed very sketchy yeah so that turned out to be a scam somebody stole the ebay auction photos listed it on reverb and then did the ol send somebody within your town a small package that has a signature required to try to trick reverb or ebay or paypal into saying yes you did get the item you're the one that's lying that you didn't get it thankfully reverb shut that down real quick you can check out this video for a very similar situation so it's kind of funny to me is the night that for some reason something called me to go to ebay this is what happens i got the missing piece to solve that scam so not only did i get a cool rhino last paul but i saved myself 400 bucks from getting scammed because i'm not sure if i didn't have that ebay link that reverb would have believed me so inside here oh okay i remember this this is a fire brand the paul before they swapped over the truss rod cover there were a few of them made just like that so technically you can still call this one a fire brand the ball let's see that feels like it left the factory as a gloss no no it didn't you can always tell by the back side of the headstock this one has just been played into this natural gloss so it was advertised as mahogany the deluxe version because generally you would have to get the fire brand deluxe to get the mahogany body but that does that looks like mahogany wood grain to me this one definitely has some players wear on the back there some buckle scratches and worming overall actually pretty good shape on the neck a couple of dings back here looks like kind of a scuff or something there but it's got the original chainsaw case on here yeah this definitely feels like the deluxe this has a slightly beefier neck than i'm used to on these like not overly big but just a little bit tad bit more rounded pro tip whenever you get a brand new chainsaw casing open it up as scary as it might be put your fingers in here you'll be surprised what you find in these cases there's like a little cavities in here where things can hide so here i have what appears to be an original toggle switch and switch tip that i would have never knew were in there if i didn't put my hand under here what else do we got looks like the output jack was replaced on this i remember one time i found a 25 50th anniversary belt buckle hidden in one of those but just goes to show you you can find some interesting stuff but it looks like original t-top pickups in here very cool model here you can check out the reviews and demos if you're not familiar with these they're going way up in value lately all right now guitar number three actually is a two-parter here so i was surfing reverb one night and i saw a batch of these guitars get listed by a seller and i honestly don't remember but it was not the united states it was somewhere in europe and i saw they had a promotion where if you bought more than one guitar they would combine shipping rates and that's a great deal for something shipping internationally so let's go ahead and get these things out there we go that was so easy but the weird thing was is despite both of these guitars shipping at the exact same time from the exact same shop you know i got tracking numbers the exact same days it's not like they held some of these guitars back and the other one's not this one took two weeks longer to get here than that one doesn't make any sense they were shipped by the same carrier too picked up the same day you'd think they would just keep the packages together but no and another funny anomaly here is you get the square latches versus the more rounded ones here that tells you this is the uh made in china case because just the way it looks versus this one that's probably gonna be canadian or costa rican made but let's go ahead and get that double reveal oh yeah double kirk douglas sgs the black ones are starting to get super scarce on the market whereas the green ones are starting to become a little bit more common it's funny how things you know go flip-flop like that occasionally so i'm i just worry that these things made it safely especially the one that took a longer time to get here so this one appears to have uh survived the trip okay and i already had somebody in canada who wants to purchase it but now let's check the green one out you can see the fit of that case was not as good it kind of popped out there they had some protection up there i've been having some rotten luck buying brand new ones of these and then they have like a whole bunch of nicks and dings and other blemishes on them like i got one brand new from the usa it had some dents in the finish right there yeah this one has that too i wonder if it's just really porous wood grain and that's why it's showing through so if you're interested in a green captain kirk douglas find them on my website now we've got one last one i figured i'd unbox on the show simply because i really liked this guitar and people didn't like my resale price on the one that i reviewed and the reason i priced it so high is because i kind of like this guitar i would like to keep one i just kind of wanted to find one with special unique wood grain patterning and i thought my review piece was quite nice but the used market was starting to get a bit crazy they were starting to sell for like that a 42 to 4 500 amount so i was getting scared if somebody bought mine i'd be left without one so that's right we got another owl 335 officially known as the jim james es335 these were just such a good value brand new whenever one does get listed i mean i think they're about done with a run at this point because i was told this was super limited but who knows maybe they'll start to do more so look at this let's see what we've got going on here kind of a an ugly knot shape and nut on the end wow it looks like they just completely forgot to shape that okay and this one the bottom strap button is also kind of loose that just must be common on all these but i thought this particular one had some really nice wood grain to it i know it's kind of hard to see because of all the reflections of the light and whatnot but that's a nice one up here and then on the back well i think my last one had some more figuring than this but it's got some nice wood grain patternings oh i got excited for a minute it looked like it had a completely flamed neck it does but it it doesn't move a lot i'm not sure at what angle you guys would be able to see that in you know sometimes you get it from the gopro footage like i don't know if i'd describe it as flamed or not it's so limitly moving but it does look like it so that's actually really cool but yeah if you see one of these jim james es 335s pick it up not only is it a fantastic 335 but this this is one of those models that it's going to explode in value maybe not right away but give them 5 10 20 years because whenever you put an animal on a guitar there's going to be people who like that particular animal and seek these out now this one it doesn't have all those ugly white dots around the decal like that first one i had so it looks like i got a bit of bad luck on that because that's a nice clean looking decal that's why i like checking out more than one example of these things too even if it's just within the unboxing series because every guitar is a little bit different all right troglodytes i hope you enjoyed tonight's episode don't forget to like
