[Music] in the far-flung corner of northern Australia there's a place of majestic beauty [Music] that is shaped by pristine wilderness [Music] mix in the 21st century [Music] suffice or below a place to share [Music] it's been described as the last frontier right where ancient culture still exists a way to get a good cup of coffee all right my mom I urge anime but you can call me Ted Miami Marilyn could you darlin motherland are proud Merle and Gideon man a smart great pleasure to introduce you to the spectacular country we call the east kimberley home of the mighty : autumn this is what the old is now cold and it's also where culinary gets its name from just for those who don't know much about the Kimberley region but way up in the North Western Australia up here we only have two seasons wetting the dry but you might call winter we call the dry seasons it can get pretty hot though during the summer months once it starts raining even I think you're in Paradise waterfalls or swimming holes everywhere that's where the mighty barramundi starts to bite now prior to Kimberley direct setting up the canal our research station in the early 60s Canada was traditionally called Luna Luna and it is a place when a mural people live practice their culture customs and today our lifestyle Commerce and Industry is all based around an life-giving waters of the mighty order from agriculture tourism to recreational use all of our lives will intersect with this mighty river [Music] originally my father saw the Ord saw the soils the water the potential blue sky the beauty the challenge being a pioneer but I think most of all he really enjoyed enjoyed the people you know people just we're just wanting to be part of our lives and wanted to be helpful and it's really that's what drew us to the order Ridge really yes Oh in all stages there's approximately 14,000 hectares under production and the gaming farmlands which is I guess you could say is phase one of the Audax pension that's approximately seven and a half thousand hectares in total of that approximately three thousand hectares is is under prop this year the town of Canada itself isn't only a couple of years older than that and it's agriculture has been a significant contributor to the to the local economy over that over those five and a half decades and it's got a fantastic opportunity to continue to grow and and become an even stronger part of the of the economy [Music] at the moment we've got chickpeas out the back there then sunflowers Thank You Kermit so we've got watermelons the three types of pumpkins gray and butternut and then here we've got some mung beans and then out the back we have maize and sorghum and also we just had a trial of cotton this year which we were conducting and helping for a CSIRO so there's a diverse range of crops and the reason we can do this is because of the water so we can we've got the land we've got the water so we can decide right up until the last point within weeks of our year starting we can change to market whatever the market wants or whatever the market demands the dam will hit like our goal the or dam wall is 335 meters across from side to side at 98 metres from the Foundation's to the top of the wall it's holding back we're at a full supply level we say 21 times the volume of Sydney Harbour and a surface area about 950 square kilometres and we say 11,000 gigalitres of water in a lake our graph so an enormous body of water being held back by a really small dam wall there was pretty cheap to build thing that really sets this area apart from most other regions not just in Australia around the world is the fact that we've got that plentiful supply of water good quality fresh water you [Music] a resident of the east kimberley what attracted you to the area and the beautiful scenery the lifestyle we love the outdoors and all the fishing and camping it's just very refreshing every day is like holiday [Music] [Music] [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] and then I actually took a drive up the Canon ara and I was absolutely blown away how the scenery transitioned and when I got here it saw the water saw the hills I never went back you know I just thought wow this place is fantastic well look of in why am i proud to be in this industry it's about promoting who we are identification but it's also I'm proud of Who I am and where I come from look at this country I mean this is north east kimberley man yeah I'd prefer to be here where you got beautiful sunshine you got beautiful water your beautiful lands you know a lot of the area's still untapped that's what I love about this place and what I love about tourism is it's about promoting who we are people go away from here with a different aspect and a different attitude once they comes from I too and that's what makes me proud because I've said somebody on the straight in there and we've opened their eyes to who we are up here I believe that combined with all the businesses around here we can make this a one-stop destination everything [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] [Laughter] Kanna Nara in my view is is essential as you can get to some of the key icons for the region you know we're right on the doorstep of the Ord River and the audio relations game which is exciting we very close to Lake Argyle we're very close to the world heritage-listed bungle bungle in peƱalolen National Park also not far from el questro station home Valley Station Berkeley River the Berkeley River Lodge the mutual Falls the mature way of the National Park there's so much happening in this part of the world and there's so much to see we are well serviced by a well-equipped Regional Hospital two great schools and also daily jet flight to Broome and to Darwin it has a vibrant business community well supported by it for strong economic pillars for me there's no been a place to live and to work and to invest than here in Kona Nara [Music] - Matt Cox and I run a business based out of Canada iron ore found charters and we offer sport fishing and all the waterways and there's Kimberly chasing the iconic barramundi what we do is really take people fishing they'll probably never been to a place like this before and just said look on their face when they get out amongst out and amongst it and catch a fish and see a crocodile and save the country in general [Music] I think when the fur you know the original founder of triple j landed here not in this to business whatsoever and saw the product and saw the backyard and saw what this place had to offer and that so a few people knew about it or even had heard of it it was a as a business proposition it was a no brainer you had the product in a wonderful location and and so it began literally out of that because of opportunity [Music] get your bombers rocky burgers hamburgers hotdogs cub chips [Music] I think I've been to lots of events and gentlemen when you walk out of event you know you're in there your leisure you lose your mind to the event that's going on the world can go out Here I am you walk out of event can an error or the is keenly aware Here I am it is that the event disco [Music] I mean the backdrop is amazing the fact that most of our really good events are outside there's natural stages everywhere you know it's just fantastic I think people have come here for an event typically they come here for the whole week you know at the or Diwali muster and sure the kimberley main event might be the highlight of the event in terms of entertainment but they have a just full-on fantastic week here incredible place where events [Music] you I'm born in kind of now every every other weekend when I get a chance to get out with still finding stuff that I didn't seen before and that's the beauty of this area these the freshwater is life water brings life and and this place has plenty of it [Music] look I really love the sense of community and cannon era I love the fact that you've got so much on offer outside it's a lot to go camping a lot to go fishing and the lake itself is just unbelievable not just like Canon era but lake argyle as well [Music] fire medium cannon are is an exciting place to farm because it is constantly changing and here every year is different every season is different and this is the magic of the Ord why people come here it's a beautiful place to live [Music] [Music] I hope you've enjoyed this little look around my country I reckon that everyone should come up here spend some time in Cannon era and the queues and experience this extraordinary place for yourself [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] you
